For a non-stick pan - I avoid Teflon because of the harmful chemical coating, but I another option is an iron pan. I love my cast iron pan and it is naturally nonstick. And it adds extra iron to my food, an essential mineral. :) Thanks for the tips!
It was a light bulb moment for me when I realized oil calories are just as empty as granulated white sugar. Super great video. I especially liked the last part about not giving up.
That's actually not completely true. Oil is one source of healthy unsaturated fats. But it's important to use the right oils like cold pressed olive or rapeseed oil, Linseed oil or hemp oil. If used for frying (only olive or rapeseed oil), you should only fry on very low heat. But they are best used cold, for example for salads or with cooked or baked potatoes.
Awesome enthusiasm! Was great hearing all these ideas! It’s cool that the expectations are realistic. I’ve been a plant based eater for over nine years. Weight wise it’s been a journey of ups and downs. I gained a bunch during the covid year. But am down 35lbs doing most of what you recommend. I’ve also incorporated following a 8:16 hr plan along with eating my largest meal for breakfast , then a little less for lunch, then just soup and salad for dinner, which depending on my hunger level will add a starch. Someone told me this eating is like a king, queen and pauper. Thanks again!!
I have been Plant-Based for the past 3 years but hadn't succeeded at all at losing weight until the past 3 weeks. It turns out that I had out of control insulin resistance that had to be dealt with before I could lose even a pound. I ended up using amla capsules and apple cider vinegar tablets - both regulate blood sugar - so I stopped having blood sugar spikes and I stopped having rebound hunger. I work late so I was eating late and Dr. Greger said that even low glycemic index food spikes as high glycemic food if you eat late and not sleeping raises insulin resistance and so does being obese to begin with. I am utterly astounded because I had switched 3 years ago from lacto-ovo vegetarian to vegan to plant-based vegan with no oil and very little sugar (Lara bars were my snack) and I didn't lose anything. But a few weeks with apple cider vinegar and amla and I am FINALLY losing weight. FINALLY! I lost 3 pounds the first week that I started focusing on insulin resistance and I lost a few more pounds the 2nd week and this week I lost another 3 pounds. 3 years of hard work and I had lost nothing. 3 weeks of just adding in Dr. Gregers 21-tweaks and the minute I got to apple cider vinegar and added in amla and I suddenly was less hungry and wasn't having rebound hunger 2 hours after meals and I stopped having the sensation where I felt like I was "stuffed but still starving" and I think insulin resistance was my whole problem. Now, if I can only start sleeping.
@@evelynbabyblue I feel like the tablets do work and they don’t have the flavor of apple cider vinegar. But I watched a doctor say that things like tablets do something because of acetic acid but it may not do 100% of what apple cider vinegar itself. I find the salad dressing easier than a vinegar drink. It is just hard to eat salad multiple times per day. Either way, these anti-diabetics are working. The Vitamin Shoppe tablets are fabulous. They are tiny and I take 5 at a time when I am not doing the apple cider itself.
Great video Chelsea Mae and I lost weight when I became vegan. Before I became vegan I usually lost weight during the summer months but as soon the winter season starts it came back and my weight increased but since being vegan my weight has been consistent throughout the year. I don't use oil in recipes.
Having been WFPB for 4 years, I didn't expect to learn anything new in this video. But you've exceeded my expectations 🙌 with the tips about cooking with the lid on, and the fact that package cooked rice that doesn't contain oil actually exists. Add 👏 to 👏 cart 👏 thanks! 👍
Yes, I'm finding whole-food plant-based is the best for losing weight and being extra healthy! And these were all great tips, even for people who are WFPB! I just want to add in addition: calorie-dense plant-based foods that are good to limit for weight-loss include nuts/seeds, avocados, and olives.
I've been plantbased for 4 yrs. I was doing calorie density before I even heard of it. 😆 It makes so much since. You are a great teacher and I love your personality and videos. - Georgia Girl
Happy I found your channel. I'm a first timer learning about vegan. I'm in my late 40s and been struggling with my weight. I want to make a healthier lifestyle change. Your channel is so easy to understand. Thank you so much ❤
Chelsea! Time and time again you blow 🤯 me away with your knowledge and your generosity in sharing it with your audience. I didn’t do so well today in dealing with cravings and I’m paying dearly for it right now with a terrible tummy 🤢 ache. However, i am now armed with great info and feel better prepared for my next cravings. Thank you again!❤
Hi Chelsea, I am a mum from the Netherlands with kids same age as yours. I discovered your channel a week ago and binge watched all your videos. I love your style, science-based approach and yummy recipes and those two cutie-kids. In the bulk of plant-based coocking, this is so refreshing. Thank you for being an inspiration for us struggling girls. ❤️
Wow! I have been so frustrated with my weight loss journey failing. I am so looking forward to making these changes in my lifestyle and diet. Let's do this!
You nailed it but I would add 1 more thing...intermittent fasting. In order for me to reach my weight loss goal I had to limit my eating to lunch & dinner with no snacking afterward. Other than that these things done consistently were the ONLY thing that actually worked to help me achieve a 40 lb loss in 3 months. ;)
Yep. So they worked to get you into a calorie deficit, you can achieve the same without skipping meals and for a lot of people eating t ends up backfiring as they get super hungry. 😊 congrats on your progress!!
I've been doing this kind of diet now for 15 days and have dropped 13 pounds! I'm not starving myself at all and not even exercising (not yet anyway). I love this way of eating and I find it very easy.
I'm just going to say this. I've already lost 3 inches off my waist (I don't count pounds) by actually focusing on using more Oil on my greens and healthy fats and starches such as avocado and bananas in my smoothies. Oil and healthy fats help me to stay full, and when I stay full, I also eat way less carbs. If I don't have my oils and my fats, I'm wayyyy more likely to backfire on my diet and snack on carbs. I totally get that everyone's different! But for me, keeping oil in has actually helped me eat more veggies and more fruits.
@@michelemarks5026 I think the point being made is sometimes nuts and avocado don't necessarily go in a dish and so it's okay to default back to actually cooking with oil. Although personally I just eat them on the side after the main meal if they don't fit in it.
I’m going to start incorporating more non starchy veggies on my plate as I usually do a lot of leafy greens but like you said they don’t fill you up that much! I think one of the biggest things I struggle with weight loss is managing stress and alcohol consumption, especially since the pandemic started and I’ve struggled to maintain healthy habits.
But Dr. Greger's How Not to Diet says that the greens have something in it called thylakoids, the photosynthetic membranes of green leaves, suppress hunger and promote satiety.
I struggle with my weight, loved your top 5 on how to lose weight. As long as I could get to the gym and pool, my weight was ok. I have been a vegan for 5 yrs. Loved your top 5 for successful weight loss. Just found your page so glad I did

THANK YOU, especially for the LAST COMMENT! I have gradually changed my eating habits in the last two years. (I have NEVER believed in "dieting" as I saw all my friends here in Southern California yo-yo diet) Anyways, I now have eliminated many, many processed foods, processed sugar, and I only drink water. I eat a huge bowl of coleslaw for breakfast with pineapple in it. I love it! Thanks for the tips! I have lost 6 pounds so far, and it is staying off!
Thank you, this is unconscious knowledge we need to hear! 'Embrace the messy' is by far my favourite point. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and encouragement, it's really appreciated!!
Thank you for these amazing tips, I am on week 12 of wfpd I am 63 years old and for the last 7 years I have been controlling my high cholesterol with diet, but it s been so hard until now. I lost 18 Lbs. so far and will go have my blood work done next week to see if this is working !! cross my fingers cause I need the encouragement.
Get in there Betty. I'm 58 and have been w.f.p.b. for 13 months. Lost 50 pounds - thought I would have lost more but I can't remember the last time I lost a good chunk of weight and kept it off for over year. Number one tip: Spice and flavour your veggies. I would struggle to eat a bowl of Brocc , Cauli or green beans but smother them in spices or home-made vegan cheese sauce or gravy and I could eat a swimming pool of them. (Well maybe not a swimming pool but at least a four-seater spa). Other tips, never go hungry and never eat anything you don't like. There are thousands of good recipes on the net to 'veganise' any meal you can think of. Read up on nutrition including the negative effects of you 'old' diet on your health and you will never go back. Good luck and keep at it.
Hello Chelsea, so glad you said Coffee! I have just started my journey in the last 6 months and have lost 15kg and I have 10kg to go. Loved the video and it has been what I have been doing.
I absolutely love this video and it really helped put things into perspective for me. I have been struggling with alcohol consumption every single day for the past 2 or 3 years and I just recently have been able to let it go and I found that sparkling water really helps give that sensation and curb the craving with no calories. Bubly brand is my favorite for that 😁
Thanks Chelsea! When I weigh my veggies I always weigh the greens. Thanks to this video I will not weigh them anymore...just the heavier veggies. Awesome video!!!
Ughhh!!! This is such a good reminder. Information I know is true, but I have been blissfully ignoring for too long. When I first went vegan I lost a ton of weight in the beginning months because I didn’t know what I was doing, which led to me mostly eating veggie sautéed veggies. Now I’m a “seasoned” fat vegan and I eat way too many substitutes and bake too much oily treats. Anyway… time to go back to basics lol. Thanks for this video 🥰
I loved this so much! You’re so cute and come across the screen in just such a likable way. These tips are wonderful! I love the whole speech about failing being a part of the journey and how you just learn from it and get back on track. I’ve been vegan for years but up till recently have I decided to become a HEALTHY vegan. I was eating lots of processed foods and sugar and gluten before. Now I’ve cut all that off and eating like you and it’s been AMAZING! In one week I could see a massive difference in my whole body just looking less puffy. I’m so excited to check out your Instagram for different meal ideas. X
Great video!! I struggle with zero waste as a Vegan, wanting to do everything the very best way for the environment... but I think you're right about picking my battles. Maybe I'll buy some bag veggies just to start some better habits while I figure out the rest. You're right about having food on hand!! Thanks for making such an informative and human video! Can't wait to revamp my diet based on this.
I found this packaged Jasmine rice, it literally is 1 min. In the microwave. So good. I find it really is a game changer to find small hacks. I used to hate cooking rice, even though it is so easy. I recently eat mostly plant based now after finding your channel a couple of years ago. Thanks for all the great tips!
I found this to be one of your more helpful videos, thanks. The best tip is to consider the weight of the veggies rather than just the volume on plate. Could be why salad, even a heap, just doesn’t really do it. A pity that veggies, even frozen, have become so expensive over the last year or two; more than doubled in price which is hard to absorb when already on a relatively strict budget. 😢
Thank you so much!!!! You were what I needed to see at this moment. I went vegan (from vegetarian) 4 yrs ago and I immediately lost 34 lbs. Ive gained 10 -15 lbs during the pandemic. I have gotten back on track and have lost 10 lbs. Im working on toning now and hopefully a little more weight loss. This was just what I needed to hear. Thank you
Chelsea. I love your videos. You are down to earth and everything you say makes perfect sense. Give ourselves a bit of grace; that is the best advice! I just signed up for your free course. Definitely excited to incorporate my lifestyle of eating to your view. So common sense. It really puts things in perspective when you show calorie density and satiety portion comparisons. Love all of your content
I have cut alcohol out before and it does help, but it's not great for me long term as I need it to unwind from my job. Instead I try to limit it to the weekend and drink stuff like white wine and spirits, which for the most part are on the lower end of the calories. I've been plant based about 5 years now and I lost weight at first but put it back on and I think it is directly related to how much more processed vegan junk food there is available that wasn't around when i started. I'm now doing the starch diet and have been cutting out the oil, but I probably need to look at increasing my non-starchy vegetables portions. Great video, Cheers.
This video has it all! This will be a great resource for me to rewatch to remember. Chelsea, I love your videos, podcasts Instagram posts - I have learned so much and learn something new with each video, podcast, post... What really resonates with me is doing the next best thing, strivinge for progress not perfection, changing habits is hard, but even just learning about them has helped me tremendously!
I love this style of video from you even though I’ve been doing this for almost a year now - it still helps to hear these tips over and over as encouragement to keep it up. 💞 thank you!!
I love your videos! Realistic working mum life, simple food and they give a good idea how your plate should look like. I like the message to eat a lot and I was not aware how many calories are in oil or other fatty food.
Chelsea Mae, this information is invaluable. Thank you SO much! I’ve been Vegan for about 20 years, but I have not always followed a healthful plant-based diet. Great video! 👍🏼😉🙏
First of all, this information is so valuable, -a gift! So thank you!, (also, if you want to put a little vitamin A oil ( just pop open a Fish Oil/Omega III pill) and apply a little to your little one’s forehead (I always had scrape as a kid too) it will take any mark or scaring away. Thanks again for all your wonderful advice.
First, I'd like to say most of this is super-sensible: loading up on a lot more non-starch veggies + eliminating sweet beverages (ESPECIALLY juices!!!) goes a loooong way to helping to lose weight, & is EXCELLENT advice. Where I'm having a lot of trouble is with this idea of eliminating fats so completely: the brain IS fat & needs fats in order to function properly & it's very dangerous to fully eliminate oils from one's diet. Carefully selecting which kinds of oils & reducing the amount used, yes, of course for the reason that it's calorie dense, but excising oils completely is not the wisest course to take....
True content - someone who is genuinely interested in helping. I was trying the blood-type (digestion friendly diet) by consuming more protein, while it did curb appetite I gained weight anyway! 🤯🤕
What a great idea! I'm always kind of sad pouring it down the drain like maybe I should do something with this instead of just smelling up my sink drain.
Well done! Great video with clear explanations. I really like that you're honest about what you do to save time. You made me see that I am following a mixture of new and old ways of thinking-- with no changes on the scale. So far this year I have increased the veggies and the fiber but not dropped the oil. So now, I will focus more on dropping out the oils and increasing the fibers! Also.... I learned long ago, that a certain level of hunger makes us lose our rational thinking!
I lost 14 pounds in 2 months eating sweet potatoes, greens, cutting out animal products, had tuna once, squash, onions, cruciferous vegetables and increasing fiber. I also try to intermittent fasting 4 x week 16 hours. I am amazed. I did this because of high cholesterol but I will take the weight loss.
great video! i eat only plant based and only 2 meals a day (breakfast+dinner or lunch+dinner), after a meal I will have 2 hot teas with vegan creamer and that fills me up too. I have no snacks but drink (mostly iced tea, some diet soda) as much as I want
I agree with almost everything Chelsea says but believe oil adds a lot of flavour to food and you just need to eat tasty food in order to lose weight. So whenever I use oil, I just cook up a huge batch and also rely on steam. I do add a little oil to get that nice flavour. I don’t have to use 30 grams. 7 or 8 grams does plenty for a pound of veggies.
For anyone still drinking juice and soda, and need to loose weight...AND who wants to understand the nutritional biochemistry of sugar on the body...in a palatable lecture...anything from Dr Robert Lustig is fantastic. He's actually quite enthralling to listen to. Very articulated and easy to understand.
I’ve been studying this way of eating for nearly a year, probably hitting it like 70% of the time. This video helped cement a lot of things for me, I especially appreciated tip 5. It’s not linear, especially when times are hard as they have been this past year. Thanks for the reminder to just keep trying and plugging away :)
I’m not a vegan but I definitely eat very little meat and I still eat some healthy oils but I’m trying to get it plant based like in avocado - what is your favorite salad dressing? I love the 50/50 plate! I drink sparkle water that is calorie free so I have something different to drink. 💖 love this channel, definitely going in this direction but I need meat because I’m so anemic. Thank you 🙏 great tips! I’m grain free, and feel great getting the processed food out, veg is the answer for health 🥗 love it!
This video is fantastic! I have been plant-based for a while and have been trying to lose the last bit of weight. The oil chart!!🤯 I mean I know, but…I really didn’t KNOW!! Thank you for this!
Yep. Definitely time to get rid of oil… Been vegan for over a year now and always tried to lower the amount of oil, but this video did it. Time for it to go! 👍🏻
I went predominently vegan about 7 weeks ago and lost more than 15 pounds! I use many greens, nuts and seeds and yes, I use olive oil and sesame oil, so delicious. And chili and lemon are great fatburners, that's my balance...No problem with weightloss. But those with metabolism problems such as diabetes and other issues, should probably shift to a no oil diet.
I am not vegan and love eating meat (cheese, eggs...). I've tried TVP and it's not bad as a replacement for ground meat. Not great, but not bad. One thing I have done that makes for a "meaty" experience is to take dried mushrooms and soak them in hot water for a few minutes (10 minutes), then dice them up small. Mix this with some beans and onions (more mushrooms and onions than beans). This gives me a satisfying meaty feel without the meat. I use this in tacos instead of ground beef.
Thank you so much for this! I have known this for a long time, but it hasn't been in the front of my mind, and you just dragged it up to the surface and now I am going to put all my oils away and use them in skin-care products instead. Thank you!
I am a new subscriber who really appreciates your videos! I struggled with a vegan diet for years while using oils and limiting starches. This diet is working much better for me! I also really liked the acronym from manypositivetraits and made one just for myself for my own lifestyle. It is DIMES. D(iet at the store.) Meaning dont bring bad food into your home. I(ntermittent Fast)Meaning my 8 Hr. window M(ove kindly 1 hr. everyday) so as to avoid injuries. E(very good decision gets you closer to your ideal vision.) Stay away from restaurants (for your physical body and your financial body.)
One thing oil is good for is that it helps increase absorbtion of fat soluble vitamins and phytonutrients, like carotenoids, if the foods you are eating are low in fat. You can use a small amount of oil in your cooking without having a substantial impact on the calories. I just cooked some stewed vegetables and herbs de Provence with a teaspoon of olive oil to sautee the mirepoix, and it only came out to about 10 percent of calories from fat per serving.
you're a doll! Thanks for all the tips. I've been trying to cut out oil, but wasn't sure how to cook in a skillet. I will try the water and veggie broth method. THANKS!!!! I am still not a vegan, but eating a million more veggies with your tips.

I have gain weight almost 50 lbs in 2 yrs.. I want to change my lifestyle and get healthy. Thanks for the video. Your videos are motivating me!!! 😃
Magnesium and lavender helps me sleep better. Plus no phones before bed, meditation, baths, yoga stretches...
Can you tell me the exact thing you take, by apple cider vinegar, you mean like a table spoon or how? Thank you ❤
@@evelynbabyblue This is a good video by Dr. Greger nutritionfacts.org/video/evidence-based-weight-loss-live-presentation/
I absolutely LOVED how Chelsea snuck in that tiny scene of Kevin from The Office!

Zij maakt leerzame videos🙂
Aww I really appreciate this! Thank you!
Wow! I have been so frustrated with my weight loss journey failing. I am so looking forward to making these changes in my lifestyle and diet. Let's do this!
I never thought about how many calories oil has. Definitely cutting back
You nailed it but I would add 1 more thing...intermittent fasting.
I needed this video this morning. Trying to get back on track. Thank you!
I've been doing this kind of diet now for 15 days and have dropped 13 pounds! I'm not starving myself at all and not even exercising (not yet anyway). I love this way of eating and I find it very easy.
How are you doing now? And would you give an example of what you eat in a day?
You lost a pound a day? That’s not healthy
Not to mention fats are essential for digestion!!
@@miaa7968 right, but she never said to cut out fats from nuts or avocado which are way healthier than oil
@@michelemarks5026 true
@@michelemarks5026 I think the point being made is sometimes nuts and avocado don't necessarily go in a dish and so it's okay to default back to actually cooking with oil. Although personally I just eat them on the side after the main meal if they don't fit in it.
Yah whatever works for you. I only use a little oil and im down 47 lbs
Just found your page so glad I did
I've been vegan for about 2 years but still struggling with weight loss after having my children. This video is awesome, I feel like U have simplified it Soo well. I'm going to start your tips tmw and comment again in a month with progress
Thank you for these amazing tips, I am on week 12 of wfpd I am 63 years old and for the last 7 years I have been controlling my high cholesterol with diet, but it
s been so hard until now.
@@youknowitstrue4182 thank you for your tips and I am very happy to say I no Longer have high cholesterol, my results were amazing !
@@bettysacco9000 Congratulations! That's great!
Hello Chelsea, so glad you said Coffee! I have just started my journey in the last 6 months and have lost 15kg and I have 10kg to go. Loved the video and it has been what I have been doing.
Love hearing this!
Wow , Nic gets fit ... awesome job , hoping I can do the same great work well done. 👍
@@fishmut thank you. You can do anything you set your mind to. I’ve started vlogging my own journey. Still

This video is gold!!!!! Been studying nutrition for 10 years now. This is great information!
Meal prepping is 🔑
The times I don’t have food ready to go, I go down the rabbit hole🙈
Hi Chelsea! This was the most visually informative WFPB diet I’ve ever seen! Thank you for doing this!😄
Never have I seen someone break down all this info so well and make it so easy to want to do 💚 thank you! Subscribed 😍
Thanks Jessie!! Appreciate that.
Love these tips! I could listen to you all day because I LOVE your accent and sweet personality!
aww thank you!
yo this was very helpful, you are a genius!
I use so much oil in my cooking. Its crazy to see the comparison in calories between zucchinis and oil
Thank you
Good god your so right about having food ready. When I don’t have things prepared I eat things I shouldn’t.
your comments about grace in failure, and change takes time , so helpful! thank. you
Thanks for always sharing and keeping it real. I am 3 week in trying new things and I love Japanese sweet potato 🍠 yum 🤤
Im totally committing to 1 pound a day of veggies now! Thanks Chelsea!
This is honestly top tier content thank you!
Love your no nonsense approach. Thank you for sharing super helpful tips! The reminder about failure was just what I needed to hear this morning.
This was massively helpful!!! Especially about the greens if doing 50/50, makes so much sense! Thanks so much for your videos!
Yes, I didn't know that greens really don't fill u up! U don't need to eat a pound of greens to get their health benefits for your arteries!
Excellent video full of great tips. Thank you for continuing to inspire us!
This is so great! I love how your tips are so simple and easy to incorporate into a busy lifestyle 🙌
I love tip number 5. it is so so hard to lose weight. thanks for this video.
Small changes over time add up to a massive difference in the end. I love your vibe and have subscribed!
Thank you for your tips, favorite one is the last one (progression over perfection). This is always the first one forgotten when setting goals ❤️.
Thanks Chelsea! Wish I had this info when I lived in New Zealand. Gained so much weight there!
Great video! I really appreciate the tips & how you make everything make sense!
True content - someone who is genuinely interested in helping. I was trying the blood-type (digestion friendly diet) by consuming more protein, while it did curb appetite I gained weight anyway! 🤯🤕
Thank you! The blood type diet is a total scam.
Great advice💞 I also keep my water from boiled vegetables. I freeze it for to use it in rice or soups.
What a great idea! I'm always kind of sad pouring it down the drain like maybe I should do something with this instead of just smelling up my sink drain.
Brillant idea!
Yes and if you grow sprouts too....you can save the water soak the next morning! Great broth!
Great vid !!!! I agree change takes time and calories deficit is the solution for weight loss
I really enjoyed watching this informative video and the pictures of how you explained it! Thank you!!
Wow chels!!! Production looks awesome 😎 👏🏼
Thanks Natalie, I have an awesome editor now!! Excited for our interview next week. Eeeek!
Excellent tips, so very simple to thank you Chelsea!
Don't forget FRUIT!! Fruit is so delicious and full of nutrients, that it keeps me completely satisfied and I don't crave processed sweets anymore.
Great Job! I sent this video to two of my best girlfriends. You really make this new way of life approachable and real.
Aww thank you for sharing!!
Yep. Definitely time to get rid of oil…
Been vegan for over a year now and always tried to lower the amount of oil, but this video did it.
Wonderful ! Ty !!!! Can't wait to start
Your best video yet! Great information and awesome graphics. Love what you’re doing and sharing!
Awesome feedback! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I have known this for a long time, but it hasn't been in the front of my mind, and you just dragged it up to the surface and now I am going to put all my oils away and use them in skin-care products instead. Thank you!
Love it!!
Make sure they are organic if you're gonna put them on your skin!
I am a new subscriber who really appreciates your videos! I struggled with a vegan diet for years while using oils and limiting starches. This diet is working much better for me! I also really liked the acronym from manypositivetraits and made one just for myself for my own lifestyle. It is DIMES.

Love your energy. Good tips. I’m lover 70 and saving this video!
Brilliant, thank you Chelsea, needed this to boost my motivation and realism 💙
you're a doll! Thanks for all the tips. I've been trying to cut out oil, but wasn't sure how to cook in a skillet. I will try the water and veggie broth method. THANKS!!!! I am still not a vegan, but eating a million more veggies with your tips.
