This is the greatest weight loss information on the internet. I started baking up 5 pounds of a broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot mix every morning, and eating it throughout the day with sriracha sauce. 5 pounds of food for less than 700 calories. 1500 calorie days are a breeze for me. I've been losing weight seamlessly with no effort or sacrifices. Overnight oats loaded with strawberries and chocolate, diet sodas, air-fried potatoes with salt and pam spray - I've been eating foods that I like BETTER than what I was eating before, in gigantic quantities, while eating thousands fewer calories per day. Thanks Chelsea! You're the best!
I lost 10 pounds in one week eating broccoli and potatoes with no exercise except my daily job (in a 1rst grade classroom). You are absolutely right. I definitely think my body loses weight from just daily movement or walking in nature and not necessarily a vigorous workout. I am going to incorporate strength training once I get closer to my goal weight 🙂🌸🌸🌸
I lost 20 lbs. by switching my mindset from eating lots of veggies to eating MOSTLY veggies. I ADD starches like potatoes, rice, beans and whole wheat pasta to my choice of veggie (love asparagus, cauliflower, zucchini, and broccoli!) instead of the other way around. Made a world of difference for me. Cutting calories while still being able to feel full and satisfied was the key for me! (I also add a lot of salsa and hot sauces!) Hope this tip helps someone else struggling same as me! :) Heidi
Completely. I grew up with vegetables as an addition ! which just seems ridiculous to me now. I cut out dairy and meat during lockdown and the thought of eating dairy now is just so unappealing. Like you my partner and I now add starches and it just makes so much sense !!
Please don't ever think You Tube is hard and intimidating. You are doing a brilliant job and helping so many people. I much prefer You Tube as I can relate better listening to what you have been through yourself. I eat lots of salad and veggies but I desperately need to get into calorie deficit.
When I first went vegan I lost a TON of weight. I ate high carb, mostly raw. I ate as much as I wanted, I ate treats. I had no issues with my weight. At a few points I was a little bit too slim. But no matter how much I ate I didn’t gain a massive amount. So after I had my son I assumed I’d drop the weight quickly. I didn’t. And it took me almost 3 years to realize why. Now vs then. The main reason is, I’m a stay at home mom now. Before I was working 40+ hours a week, I was going out 5+ times a week, I was working out, my stress levels were low. 🤷🏼♀️ you can’t really eat whatever you want when you aren’t super active. Even something like sushi is SUPER easy to overeat on. Avocado, fried veggies, vegan Mayo. Suddenly you’ve eaten 2000 calories. 😣 I have you to thank for now understanding this! Calories are so important, not in a bad way. But it’s just a fact.
So true. We moved countries five years ago and into a city and here we have to walk a lot more than living in the country where every trip needed a car . We both lost around ten pounds without trying. Getting 10,000 steps a day can be really helpful. Now I have a tracker I see how little I used to do daily whenever I go back home. It is close to 3,000
@@stargazerbird yes! I remember when I first got a step tracker and my goal was 30k steps a day and it was soooo easy to get when I was on my feet for 12 hours a day moving non stop! Now I struggle to hit 8k a day.
Your videos are the first time I had ever heard of this concept a week ago. I never knew about calorie deficits and calorie dense foods. Mind blown. I have lost 5 lbs in a week just following these concepts. 25-30 more lbs to go. You make it so much easier to follow and understand. My mindset is forever changed
I'm so excited because I have been implementing these things since watching your videos and I am down 12 lbs from 3 weeks ago. I am not exercising because of an injury but am not sedentary either. This way of eating really works and I agree with the 5 things you mentioned here. I am 44 and wish I had known these things when I was younger. I feel fantastic and am so grateful I found your channel.
I really appreciate you because you're the only vegan RUclipsr I've seen who talks about the importance of calories. A lot I've seen say "Eat all you want and stop counting calories to lose 50 lbs in a year". I found out the hard way ( by gaining weight ) that it doesn't work. Thank you for the sensible and accessible information. I'm going to take your advice when making my meal plans going forward. xo
I love that you base what you say in sciens and also state the obvoius (but sometimes difficult to see); create a strategy that will show results for yourself! So easy to try to stick to something that somebody else are doing (in many areas of your life, not just nutrition) and then be blind for that it isnt working and just continueing on that path....

I remember the days when HFLC and 80/10/10 were really popular and what wasn’t being emphasized was that a lot of the proponents had hardcore training regimens. I swear it seemed like every plant based youtuber was also an amateur cyclist. The extreme exercise allowed them to eat 3000 plus calories and stay lean. I know a lot of girls who took these people’s words as dogma and ruined their relationship with food. I’m glad we know better now. Great video as always!
You are the biggest inspiration, Thank you for that. I changed my diet, and love it. Still can't believe that 11 lb down in 1 months, and still can't believe I haven't had any meat yet and I am fine. I think it's all in our heads, we need to train our mind, and you will set yourself free. I eat a lots of potatos and get weird looks from friends and family but it's fine, I am feeling good, and look much better too, and I love it. ❤️ thank you Chelsea 😊
I absolutely love every single one of your videos! I’ve been vegetarian then vegan for over my life (I’ll be 32 in the Fall) but have always carried around 15-20 extra pounds. Since going sober, I lost a little but was so confused why I hadn’t lost more since I absolutely love my daily salads. Well, I finally started tracking my calories and realized how often my fiancé and get takeout (we both work every day and I’m a vegan chef so it’s difficult to cook all of our meals sometimes and being in Nashville, TN, USA doesn’t help because we have so many vegan options now). Sorry for the long-winded response but you are so SO appreciated! Thank you for being true to yourself and honest with your viewers while still maintaining a magnificent level of compassion.💚
Chelsea, your charts are AMAZING! I never knew about how little exercise contributes to calorie deficit. Witch is kind of embarrassing because I'm a PE teacher and almost have my master's in Health and Wellness. Your video "Top 5 vegan weight loss hacks" has a Calorie Density chart that points out oil as liquid fat and not nutritional. That was mind blowing! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful family and wonderful home. Keep going girl, YOU ROCK!!! :) :) :)
Awesome video! I think the thing I wish I had know was that the changes have to be made FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! It is a lifestyle change that needs to be made, not just some three week crash diet. Learn to eat and love eating veges and fruit that you yourself prepare. Eat until you are 80% full (that's not leaving room for dessert!). Remember to eat to life, not live to eat!!! I agree with your calorie deficit approach, but also think portion awareness is also a good idea. You can still have ANY food you want just in moderation, you really don't have to give up the things you really love.
Well... I'm so glad you put on that makeup (not that you need it, by any means, mind you!) and got yourself to make this video!!! So helpful. And love your down-to-earth authenticity. Thanks, Chelsea!!!
I went through that conflict too. Now I am maintaining about 80 lbs down, and look to the whole food/plant based diet a la The Maximum Weight Loss Plan, by Dr. McDougall. You explain it well. Dr. McDougall doesn't talk about calories, but does give a list of foods not to eat when wanting to create that calorie deficit. You're both saying the same thing. Love this video. I wish I would stick to it too, but I need the videos to reinforce this knowledge. Old habits die hard. Thank you so much for posting. Glad you put on the face, and brought us this important message.
I low of potatoes, I love to mix the inside of a baked a potato with 1/2 avocado . Like a twice baked potato. I keep some cooked in my refrigerator all the time. Nice walk, swim or weight training works for me. I also love jazzercise
Thank you Chels🙌😊 just what I needed today‼️ My small change will be to eat my non starchy veg before I eat anything else and to lower my starches so I can find my calorie deficit 😊 I just ate 1 cup of oats cooked in oat milk with 1 cup of blueberries and a small banana with cinnamon cardamom hemp seeds and heaping tsp if peanut butter topped with a drizzle of maple syrup 🤦♀️ I really love my starches🤷♀️ I’m looking forward to how my small change makes a difference 😊 thanks for the inspiration and excellent content on your channel 🥰 you are my favorite RUclipsr😊
Ok, after going back and forth and dealing with life…I have sesrched you out because You are truly the only youruber I have watched that gave me just a few tools and holy crap, the weight falls off! I have been reducing cortisol, going through perimenopause, have neuropathy in my feet and morton’s neuroma, am 18 lbs overweight which feels like 200. I put your suggestions into action in 2020 snd lost the 18 lbs. was feeling great. Then covid hit. My mother came to live with us permanently (hello stress)…and my particular version of covid attacked my already fragile feet leaving almost unable to walk. Fast forward to two days ago. Gave myself the perverbial kick in the rump and looked up « that girl from New Zealand » and watched this video again. And again yesterday put myself on the game plan (which in body makes me feel so great) and bam! This morning 1.1 lb gone! Like that! I was doing intermittent fasting to no avail. Oil, butter, mayo and too much dairy kill me. So yesterday, all clean with a little bit of smoked salmon (I’m not vegan) and i’m back on track! All this to say is that ya, must not be easy to put out content continually on youtube but you have soo helped me and I feel really grateful. Today, I was at the grocery store at 8 am and bought, just for me foods!!!!!! Lunch is already made. Will eat soon! Thank you!!!
I used to think l had to exercise each day to help loose weight and keep it off. I have now changed and do weights a few times a day. I got myself some adjustable dumbbells. I made the change a month ago. Working great thus far. Your videos are very informative and easy to understand. Thankyou
Oh my gosh Chelsea your videos are so good so informative thanks for putting in the effort for you too I'm not an instagrammer I only do you too so I appreciate your effort!
Thank you chelsea for putting yourself online to help us all figure this out. The diet culture noise is insane and you make it seem actually realistic and show us why and how. Thank you 🤍
🥔🍠 Potatoes make a calorie deficit so much easier! Love your channel and personality ❤ I only watch a handful of lifestyle type channels and yours is amazing.
This was one of your most empowering videos Chelsea 🥰 Thank you SO much for all of the content you create, you really are absolutely amazing! I love all of the information, personal experiences and advice you share. Thanks for giving me the boost to do what feels right for me. You're awesome 😍😍
In addition on the exercise note - most people over-estimate how many calories they are actually burning. I can do a sweaty work out for 30 min and only burn 200 calories. That's not even a whole meal's worth. Then once or twice a week a person will "reward" themselves or take a break from "being good", and eat junk or overeat without counting what they are eating and think they already burned it exercising. It's a weird and visicous cycle. Honestly, I've done every mistake in this video - disregarding calorie counting, trying to out exercise my eating habits (stressing my joints, creating cortisol, and killing my metabolism that way), scared of carbs, eating healthy with banana smoothies, adding lots of nuts to my salads, etc. knowing that I'm not drinking sodas or eating junk food (usually) and wondering why I'm not losing! I've been doing things differently and being healthy with exercise but not depending on that and not stressing my body. I've lost 15lbs in less than 2 months!
Hi Chelsea, can you tell me what the sauce was you tipped over the potatoes your were cooking in your instant pot at the beginning of this video, only it looks delicious? Thanks x
You are the Angel of my day 😘 Fortunetly because of you, of THIS vidéo I understand why I didn't loose weight as a vegan women since 10 years...soooooooooo many thanks 🤗🙏🧘♀️
As much as exercise does not burn many calories, especially if you eat some extra calories to compensate, it does increase metabolism slightly, particularly strength training, and lowers insulin levels. Insulin is what drives fat into the cell, so anything that decreases insulin levels will help fuel weight loss. Regular exercise, even if it's just a walk or two per day, will help Having said that, weight loss is more about diet than exercise. If you only have the mental energy to focus on one, then focus on diet until you get yourself into a place where you can take on a bit more. Also, remember that exercise doesn't have to be intense or complicated. A walk, ten mins full body exercises or 20 mins yoga etc is all beneficial. You don't have to choose between an hour slogging it out at the gym or being a couch potato. Just do what you can.
I have been vegan almost 10 years and have not been able to lose the 50 pounds extra I carry around. I enjoyed listening to your thoughts. Question out of the blue here...I have always used olive oil. I know I can easily saute and roast without it...but specifically, what about salad vinaigrettes that use EVOO? What would I use to replace it? Any ideas are welcome!
How do you join your zoom chat??... I want to convert to plant base from atkins. It just makes sense. And your group would help sooooo much. Love your message and knowledge ❤👍
I ate vegetarian so I did include some cheese and yogurt, when we went into lockdown in March 2020 through May 2021 and I biked every day except Sunday and turned out I had an enormous appetite, I gained 13 pounds! So I needed to be reminded about the calorie deficit and my husband really kind if hates most vegetable..he thinks I'm torturing him..and lets be plain honest if your partner is not eating the way you are or resisting its much harder to get the fitness and shape that you want be....😅
Excellent video Chelsea and thanks for sharing this. I never count my calories. Love potatoes and I am starting to harvest my early potatoes and they taste 😋better than store bought. Love 🥰 Chelsea's video's and love 💕 Chelsea.
Everyone needs a healthy dose of “C” in our lives 😊💪🏻. To keep us going and to help staying on the right path to healthy lifestyle. Keep a good work Chels! 🤗👍😘
Just found your interesting & insightful channel. Whilst I don’t follow a vegan style of eating, watching someone who has been thru the ordeal of figuring out what works best for them, makes more sense and gives real credence to what you explain. To me, there’s nothing more fake than seeing someone who’s trim & fit and being paid to promote some fancy weight loss method, telling us they used to be the size of a fridge, when you can tell their particular body style doesn’t support that lie.
Hey Chelsea, I have been faithfully watching your channel for sometime now . I love your content. I know you do not count your calories so how do you know if you are at a calorie deficit? There is a lot of mixed information on RUclips about counting vs not counting. I do count my calories as best as I can , but I am trying to get to a place where I can just listen to my hunger cues without counting anything and see how that works. But I was just wondering how do you know that you are at a calorie deficit?
From what I’ve been watching, reading and practicing plant based eating, if you’re eating whole plant based foods, you will get satisfied because you can eat high volumes of low calorie foods. So it’s not likely you will be eating too many calories. It’s good to track at first but eventually it becomes habitual.
@@vivk6507 Hi there, thank you yes that makes sense, I guess part of my problem is I really got over my plateau when I started counting calories so kind of shy about just winging it🙃
@@ChelseaMae Yes I heard you say that, I guess I just have to stop listening to the other RUclipsrs influencers who say the opposite. Going to stop counting my calories and see how it goes. I want to make this a way of life and I do not want to be tied to a food scale 😬 thank you for breaking everything down, you are very informative and I really appreciate it😊
I'm not sure if this will be helpful to you, but I started counting calories when I hit a plateau because I thought I had to take more extreme measures to lose the last lbs. BUT, I found that I actually did worse that way, because it made me so focused on what I was eating all the time, and at the end of the day if I still had a surplus of calories I would tend to snack more to get up to the 1500 that my app was allowing me. After a month or so I stopped counting because it was driving me crazy, and I started losing again! I'm pretty sure calorie counting did help me to understand portions more and how to balance fats, proteins, and carbs and get enough fiber, but not counting allowed me to listen more to my body and stop when I was satiated, not when the calorie app told me I had enough.
It is quite possible that the people who can eat 3000 calories have a different factor at work. I say that because Dr. Greger's How Not To Diet talked about the study where a calorie is not a calorie - the time of day changes how many calories the body can handle. The percentage fat changes how many calories the body can handle. He did the prison story where they were trying to get slim prisoners to gain weight but it took something like 40,000 more calories to gain the same amount of weight if the calories were low enough fat. He also did the people eating the exact same calories and one group lost weight and one group gained weight depending on time of day eating. There was also the same gained weight versus lost weight with processed foods.
Hi Chelsea I like Japanese sweet potatoes (purple skin and yellow meat) so much but they have higher calories (130kilocal/100g) than the orange ones (89kilocal/100g) as they are much sweeter. i have seen it somewhere on one website, not sure if you have the information. I hope i m wrong.
The comment about coconut cream reminds me of a peeve of mine: I'm so tired of coconut oil being used in vegan food, especially at restaurants. Coconut oil is not health food, folks. Once in a while, coconut milk is fine to have a little in a curry but the refined coconut oil has no business in baked goods or cooking (it's a byproduct of the detergent industry). It has been proven to raise LDL cholesterol to a degree that is unhealthy.
Tell me Chelsea did the fact that you always eat carbohydrates make you feel tired and without energy? Because I feel so sometimes and I want your opinion (I eat the common potatoes and not the sweet ones)
Thanx for the explanations!!! You're great, back in the day I would lose and gain the same 5# and it was exhausting!!!!!!!!LFHCRV=low fat high carb high raw vegan is working for me and I am satisfied and cravings are no more; lots of greens and fruit with adequate healthy plant fats and I'm never hungry!!!!!! Luv the buddha bowls too. If I happen to plateau a bit I just tweak what I am enjoying and carry on. Biggest worry now is to make sure I eat enough fuel!!!!!!!Potatoes are rawsomeness cubed!!!!!!! 32# released since Nov 2020~~~~Be well!!
Hi I got to goal weight with the John McDougall way of eating. I was addicted to processed foods and binged on them most of my life. So eat just 3 meals a day now and eat way more food than most people. But my binge brain is still there. It never goes away. I don't act on its thoughts now, which is a miracle. But my brain or stomach continually tells me I am hungry, even after a meal. I have been on a steady maintainace weight now for 5 years. You talk about snacks when hungry but this leads to continual eating for me. Any thoughts?
But by bit. But got off flour and sugar with a friend. We kept counting days and would fail. But started again at day 1 over and over until we got momentum the didn't want to break the record number of days so kept going. We also do bright line eating because I don't know what a normal portion looks like and would keep going even with starches and whole plant foods.

🙏🧡 Thank you!! Thats so sweet!
Yes! Habbit change is the hardest for me. Thank you 🙏
7:53 Two hours on the bike burns 900 calories or more, thats a huge part of the daily calory burn, almost half.
Sorry for the typos.
I know so many people who think potatoes are unhealthy!! I feel bad for them because potatoes are so damned good. 😭 Great video, Chels!
I used to think l had to exercise each day to help loose weight and keep it off. I have now changed and do weights a few times a day. I got myself some adjustable dumbbells. I made the change a month ago. Working great thus far. Your videos are very informative and easy to understand. Thankyou
This was so well explained! Especially tip 2 about the exercise! Wow, thank you!
Oh my gosh Chelsea your videos are so good so informative thanks for putting in the effort for you too I'm not an instagrammer I only do you too so I appreciate your effort!
I am so glad to be able to reach you! Thank you for the comment! Means so much !
I’m not strictly plant based but I find these tips incredibly helpful and achievable. Thank you so much for posting!
Thank you chelsea for putting yourself online to help us all figure this out. The diet culture noise is insane and you make it seem actually realistic and show us why and how. Thank you 🤍
I'm very glad you made this video in the end :-) The last tip on habits is exceptionally helpful. Thank you.
Regular, consistent exercise increases muscle mass.. which raises BMR (basal metabolic rate).
Great video! These are so important and nice to be reminded of. Love your hair btw.
Exactly what I needed to hear Chelsea!!
It was definitely meant that you did that RUclips video!
Thank you !!
You are so good at this! I really enjoyed your video and found it VERY helpful! Thanks Chelsea!
🥔🍠 Potatoes make a calorie deficit so much easier!
Love your channel and personality ❤
I only watch a handful of lifestyle type channels and yours is amazing.
100% agree! 🥰
Wow!! I feel so honored! Thank you!

This was one of your most empowering videos Chelsea 🥰 Thank you SO much for all of the content you create, you really are absolutely amazing! I love all of the information, personal experiences and advice you share. Thanks for giving me the boost to do what feels right for me. You're awesome 😍😍
Thank you so much!!!!!
Thanks x
Potato reset sounds interesting and delicious! I didn’t see a link??? 🌻
Thank you
Isn’t it in the description below this video ❓
I eat mounds of potatoes and find that eating them HELPS me lose weight and maintain weight. Of course I eat my salads and veggies too!!!
Really good video ❤ so helpful
You are the Angel of my day 😘 Fortunetly because of you, of THIS vidéo I understand why I didn't loose weight as a vegan women since 10 years...soooooooooo many thanks 🤗🙏🧘♀️
So glad it helped you!
thank you for this. love watching you. how can I calculate calories if I make a vegetable soup?
Thank you Chelsea! I love your videos and they help me so so much!!
As much as exercise does not burn many calories, especially if you eat some extra calories to compensate, it does increase metabolism slightly, particularly strength training, and lowers insulin levels. Insulin is what drives fat into the cell, so anything that decreases insulin levels will help fuel weight loss. Regular exercise, even if it's just a walk or two per day, will help
Having said that, weight loss is more about diet than exercise.
I love potatoes too absolute favorite food of mine! Thanks Chelsea such a helpful & inspiring video!
I love your simple meals. I made one of your recipes on my channel recently and love it.
Love potatoes!!! 🥔🍠 thank you for all the effort and heart you put on your work✨
🙏🧡
Great video! Thank you 🫶🏾
I ate vegetarian so I did include some cheese and yogurt, when we went into lockdown in March 2020 through May 2021 and I biked every day except Sunday and turned out I had an enormous appetite, I gained 13 pounds! So I needed to be reminded about the calorie deficit and my husband really kind if hates most vegetable..he thinks I'm torturing him..and lets be plain honest if your partner is not eating the way you are or resisting its much harder to get the fitness and shape that you want be....😅
How do you figure out how many calories to eat?
I had some steamed broccoli with my breakfast this morning and I thought of you ^_^
Aww lol! I love that!
Turn your head to the thentothe left. Repeat the exercise everytime you are offered something to eat.
An amazing view! Very educational and honest. Just Real Life! Thank you! Love your channel!
Aww thank you!
Great advice
I found that really helpful Chelsea, Thankyou 🙏🙏🙏💕💕
Excellent video Chelsea and thanks for sharing this. I never count my calories. Love potatoes and I am starting to harvest my early potatoes and they taste 😋better than store bought. Love 🥰 Chelsea's video's and love 💕 Chelsea.
Everyone needs a healthy dose of “C” in our lives 😊💪🏻. To keep us going and to help staying on the right path to healthy lifestyle. Keep a good work Chels! 🤗👍😘
Excellent fact based information. I am relatively new to plat based/calorie deficit/nutrient dense food way if life. So helpful!!
🧡🙏
You are seriously amazing
Thank you C! Powerful advice
Great advice and information. Thanks!!!
Sassy! It is quite simple! You know you are in a calorie deficit when you see the scale begin to trend downward.

Hi there, thank you yes that makes sense, I guess part of my problem is I really got over my plateau when I started counting calories so kind of shy about just winging it🙃
@@ChelseaMae
Yes I heard you say that, I guess I just have to stop listening to the other RUclipsrs influencers who say the opposite.
You are such an inspiration!
Thanks Chelsea my problem is over exercising and eating around 1600 calories I should be not exercising so much and eating less
Thank you.
You make so much sense. Thank you
It is quite possible that the people who can eat 3000 calories have a different factor at work.
Great video! What about kohlrabi? Is that as good as broccoli or potatoes? I like to eat it raw and/or cooked.
Very similar to broccoli! Great option!
Such a good video! I need all of these reminders :)
More what your family eat in a day 🙏❤️
Very informative! Thank you
Great video! Great info!
This is excellent; thank you.
Tell me Chelsea did the fact that you always eat carbohydrates make you feel tired and without energy? Because I feel so sometimes and I want your opinion
(I eat the common potatoes and not the sweet ones)
Can you please talk about gallstones I got them after going high carb low fat and weight lost
Just so much sense, thanks for sharing and trying to get people's heads in shape for their own personal journey.
Aw Thank you!
Hi, how did you seasoned your potatoes? Nice video
I love my potatoes and hope i can reincorporate them once im off my candida free meal plan 😋
The Lean with Plants program is open to join now!!

I LOVEEEE your videos
Hi I got to goal weight with the John McDougall way of eating. I was addicted to processed foods and binged on them most of my life. So eat just 3 meals a day now and eat way more food than most people. But my binge brain is still there. It never goes away. I don't act on its thoughts now, which is a miracle. But my brain or stomach continually tells me I am hungry, even after a meal. I have been on a steady maintainace weight now for 5 years. You talk about snacks when hungry but this leads to continual eating for me. Any thoughts?
How did you get off processed foods? I’m struggling with this
But by bit. But got off flour and sugar with a friend. We kept counting days and would fail. But started again at day 1 over and over until we got momentum the didn't want to break the record number of days so kept going. We also do bright line eating because I don't know what a normal portion looks like and would keep going even with starches and whole plant foods.
Love this! It really puts it in perspective
🧡🙏
