This film did weird shit to me in the best way. When I was a toddler it felt dark sometimes, vivid but dark in the sense of how fever dreamish it was at points. I think my dreams as a toddler gave me false memories that make movies like this seem nostalgic. This film is indescribable to me. I can’t explain what it did, but it felt good. Instant favourite.

I have a theory on that - I think you probably saw movies with similar audio and visuals or animations from that time period as a child and your brain automatically associates with those familiar nostalgic memories. It may sound weird, but all my childhood memories up to a certain point have a sort of blurry sepia filter I don’t know why😂.

For me that type of skyline represents the monolith of self-directed evolution that encompasses cyberpunk. "High tech, low life" is what some call it. It's kind of eery how a daunting skyline at night can encapsulate and evoke so much emotion: the drug-fueled fever dream of night life; the omnipresent visual assault of neon lights and advertising; a collective that is so much bigger than any single individual that it seemingly defies control; the illusion of freedom in a never-ending rat race that only serves to consolidate wealth.
