Wait, considering the year is 2019 and we're in an alternate history to the film, could that mean the movie eludes that WE are in Tetsuo's created universe? Edit: Wow, I have returned a year later to a pretty amusing conversation!
Edit: Just wanted to let yall know I was fucking with ya Edit 2: Still think its a shit joke Over the years i've studied the universe, multiverse, metverse, omniverse, planes a existence, pocket universe, dimensions, and planes of reality. In my opinion this s wrong. Any form of media is in a plane of reality below us. We created it, we designed it, gave it visuals, a voice, and thoughts. The same applies for the movie. People from our reality plane animated it, created the story, gave them voices etc. We created akira. He cant control us. We gave akira thoughts in the first place.
True. Neutron bombs were a big deal in the 1980's. I think this movie describes the effects of nuclear warfare on the spirit, soul and collective consciousness in general. People say Tetsuo is evil but that's not true, he is more chaotic neutral and then goes mad from all the power from Akira (who already blew up!)
So was Akira already his own universe some where else? Then the kids used his organ samples to summon his Consciousness to come back to the movie universe, to help contain Tetsuo’s transformation into a universe of his own and show him how to do it? Basically, the movie universe is A, Akira’s universe is B and Tetuso has now become Universe C. separate gods in there created places? Or did the two of them, Akira and Tetsuo merge their powers together to create a new universe and now they exist there together? Like yin and yang
I would say the last bit it's what made more "sense" if you think about it, anything in our reality relies in the belif of what's right and wrong, good or evil, and you can not have one with out the other (at least in theory), so assuming akira is the force for good it needed to exist first to do what good does, create stuff, and in an opositive reaction, evil came to exist trough Tetsuo, and merged in the new universe to balance the equation and complete the sense of existence of all things in that new universe giving the the Father of good and the counterbalance the father of evil. But that's just my philosophical bullshit. It could be what the author tried to send as a message of his own set of belifs. XD
They don't become an universe. Their consciousness became part of the universe through their awakened ability to control the Akira energy...... That's how I think it is.....just my thoughts.
akira was still in a physical form, just chopped up. sealed and dormant. tetsuo was the only one strong enough to wake him up when he entered his presence. I think tetsuo losing control was his powers reacting to the presence of akria. once the container and seals were broken, akira was able to manifest himself again, like Dr Manhattan. since the 3 kids were not as strong as akria and tetsuo, I believe akira and tetsuo made a universe and all 5 of them exist there.
Ehhh I’m pretty disappointed ngl... it seems overhyped now bc everyone told me I had to watch it bc it was such a great anime movie but I’m rating it a solid 6/7 😪
Great explanation. I now realize that there were so many parts of the manga and the anime that I didn't understand despite reading and watching it countless times... I never associated that orb of light with the big bang and the creation of a new universe. When at the end they say "it's already begun", I thought it meant more espers like Kay would appear. And when Kyoko says " big people like you shouldn't have that power" and talks about amoeba (through Kay)... I always thought that meant the akira abilities were due to a microbial infection. But she meant that great powers to flawed individuals only enhance their ability to do what they were already doing: evil. It doesn't improve them. It just multiplies their respective propensity for good or evil. And apparently the fact that Tetsuo's psychic pattern is the exact opposite of Akira's alludes to their respective natures. Japanese mangas can be so deep and reflective sometimes... It's amazing. You'd never find that in western comics.
It's important to note that this is only my interpretation of the film. Your interpretation is just as valid! The creation of a new universe might as well mean the creation of future espers.
Akira and tetsuo pretty much acted as suns. A sun is ultimate energy. When they got so much power they exploded like a star. They went supernova and created a black hole. This whole thing is just things we already know or believe in someway percieved in someones own perspective.
I learned that the reason Tetsuo even had psychic powers in the first place was because his grandfather was apart of the first Akira plan, and the powers skipped a generation.
Every time I try to say this almost no one hasn't spoken about it but, DID THEY JUST PREDICTED THE OLYMPICS IN JAPAN OF 2020?! I was it to honor the movie?

just finished the movie and what i thought right after it ended, was that it's supposed to be a commentary about the corruption of politicians, military, hiding the truth from the people, how selfish humans are in nature, etc., but i missed a lot of things, geez. i'm particularly bad at analysing media as complex (and not so complex...) like this film, and your video was really helpful, well made, and straight to the point, loved it!!
I literally CANNOT believe that the very first words out of your mouth in this video are the actual content of the video, and aren’t some sort of contrived introduction or “welcome back everybody so today we’ll be talking about one of my favorite movies of all time and bear in mind that it’s really blah blah blah” monologue. That sort of intro thing always happens in RUclips video essays like this-so well done! Thank you very much for this editing decision. It makes me instantly want to watch your video more, because I don’t have to wait for it to start.
I always thought Tetsuo overused his power and it turned on him. He went against the flow of the universe too much and it finally overwhelmed him. He was he was then rescued by Akira and placed in a different universe where he wasn't affected anymore by the causality of his actions in our universe.
One of the prevalent thoughts I had during the movie was that everyone were always antagonizing eachother and so many of the disasters that happened during the plot would probably not have happened if they just communicated. Like if the government/scientists just explained to Tetsuo that he contained dangerous powers and could end up dying and killing a lot of people maybe he would have collaborating. Even after the chaos started they could maybe have talked him down instead of shooting a bunch of weapons pointlessly at him. If Tetsuo had been honest about how being mocked or bullied affected him then maybe their friendship wouldn't have rifted. The kids keep refusing to elaborate themselves and people keep thinking they're bad guys because of it. Hell if they told the people the truth about Akira/the "bomb" maybe the war wouldn't even have happened. Plus, the politicians being exposed as liars and manipulators in the end leads me to believe there's a message in the movie about trying to understand eachother and just being honest.
Akira was the movie that made me love anime. I watched it for the first time when I was 13 back when everybody thought stuff like this was only for nerds. But it opened my mind to how this stuff isn't nerdy at all its awesome and has so much to offer. As I kid I always watched yugioh and Pokémon but considered them cartoons but this was the movie that opened the doors to everything else.
If a movie is made where it can REALLY make a person think about what it meant, then you have created a masterpiece. That is what this movie is. Not only visually and groundbreaking but story-wise. I loved is movie from the first time that I saw it. And it still blows me away every time I see it years later as an adult.
thank you for the breakdown. last time I saw this movie was 1992 in middle school & the ending had me stumped. all these years later, you've answered my question. thank you spook!
The guy that made the movie and manga was a genius. He thought about concepts that resemble a lot what Stephen Hawking seemed to have thought about black holes that could be their own big bang to the eyes of eventual observers somewhere in the future of this big bang.
I remember watching this with my brother as a kid. It stood out in my mind like some kind of myth. Ever since becoming an adult I've been trying to remember what I watched as a kid. Now I know, it was Akira I watched all those years ago. Quite serendipitous to have it randomly pop into my RUclips suggested videos. Makes me wonder if the SNES game that stands out in my mind will resurface in my life in the same way Akira did. Thank you for this video. It concluded a 15 year long quest.

This movie is a masterpiece. It is not hard to understand it if you are a little awake during it. It is great to watch these kind of videos and others to further understand all the meaning behind each scene, dialogue and even music. I love this movie. I will read the mangas someday.
I always thought Akira = Tetsuo Kannada = Takashi The girl = Kyoko Akira never got to become and adult. In order to stop his explosion he had to literally invert himself... when all the espurrs jump into the 2nd explosion, they too invert themselves to imprint on the 4 protagonists left at the end of the movie... I think kyoko notices their psychic ability earlier in the film
Spook じめじめミーム haven’t found any forums or anything who agree with me/ share my view. But my 1st real watch through I was like... the old kids are phsychic. They say it’s weird that the new kids have some ohsychic abulity. Testuo is compared to Akira the whole movie. His energy pattern is even inverted. I thought it seemed obvious they had inverted themselves into their own uni erase creating some kind of paradox... Testuo ams Akira being the Big Bang that caused our own universe respectively (the constant acceleration of dark matter, dark energy and mass in general kind of being how we saw tetsuo constantly expanding at the end... then we see the universe expansion as the last images of the movie... So,ebony please discuss this with me in great detail please!
i think this sums up what i saw, but i did get vibes of becoming pure energy through rebirth which spawns big bang kind of sense as tetsuo looked like a giant god fetus like creature before he was swallowed by the light that was akira. and i think that the estimation that akira took tetsuo away to his dimension or universe to more or less save him from himself or maybe recruit him was what happened in the end, i'm not sure. the movie had some stellar animation however i feel like it was a pretty rough movie to watch as it was really hard to follow plot points and it jumped from different parts of the cast giving away very little information except the visuals and it's like you had to just guess a lot of the plot or what they were trying to convey through the entire movie by context clues. it was nice to look at but i felt no emotional connection to it, but it was pretty interesting because the plot points seemed pretty cool and i had to invest myself into it to understand it.
This movie changed my fucking life when I first saw it 25 years ago. I went and saw the original print for the 30 year anniversary, even met the guy who owns 90 percent of the cels. What a masterpiece, everyone should see this movie at least 5 times. I notice/learn something new every time I watch it. Have prob seen in 80+ times.
I loved this video and it gave great insight into the explanation of a lot of the core of the movie. It does however fail to acknowledge the highly political messages of the film and it’s symbols. Not only was Akiras effect disguised as a a nuclear bomb and WW3. It is a message that the greed and hunger for that power is what caused it in the first place that the power should not be in the hands of one person. It turns them into a disgusting baby monster. Or the scenes of the corrupt politician and his true importance as a symbol as he literally runs away with a big briefcase brimming with money dying of a heart attack. Or when the general kills the official trying to take his power and tells the soldiers “ they were working for corrupt capitalists” this video is great for the content but the true beauty of what makes Akira great is it’s understanding and depth rooted in real problems.
That last bit at the end regarding Akira and Tetsuo's pocket-verses was great, I had always pondered what the explanation could be but that was an excellent summation.
The movie is pretty self-explanatory to people who understand the topics Akira touches. For me, there is overwhelming amount that watching it once I cannot grasp the true beauty of the film.
Superb video! Thanks for explaining this movie greatly. I couldn't understand much in the movie when I watched it . But your video helped me to understand most of the movie. Thank you so much.
i knew i wasn’t the only person who didn’t understand akira. after so many years of trying to understand i still don’t. this video helped but not to much. thank you for your time
Can I ask a question? if Akira creates a new universe, he can reset everything right in that area he borrowed right?!! That means Kaori is still alive. That’s just a theory though
I unfortunately do not know the extension of Tetsuo's abilities, but I feel if they are powerful enough to produce a new universe they would be powerful enough to do just that!
Personally I don't think he can, or will. Kaori died before the new universe was created, and none of Akira's or Tetsuo's powers indicate they could bring back the dead. They could possibly make an identical looking copy of Kaori in the new universe, but it wouldn't be the same one most likely, i.e it wouldn't have her memories or experiences.
Tetsuo says that he felt him absorb her, so I imagine that they might share a consciousness within their own new universe. Maybe Akira will teach him how to be a god with two personalities. Idk
For some reason I don't think their powers would be that specific, like being able to copy a thing like a person as if it were a set of Legos. If Akira created a separate universe I don't think it would be like say, Franklin Richards, I think he would create the necessary pressures and gravity for a universe to create itself if that makes sense.
I watched this movie with my partner and it was a wild ride because it went from gang wars, to political rebellion, to philosophy class, to action horror, to body horror, and then to existential horror I loved every second of it even if I needed a while to process the whole thing
Akira capture common theme in human society. When the old system got problems there are people who want to change it, they gain absolute power that that power making them corrupt, inhumane and out of control only for it to collapse and creates something out of that ruin: a new society and then repeats. Edit- i just realize this is also common theme in everything in the world, in short old dies and new one creates over and over again be it on cellular level to universe indefinitely.
It is necessary to discuss the destruction of the old and the creation of the new separately from physical and political matters. Reality is constructed according to the ideas of social construction. Because we build with the wrong philosophy from the beginning, we end up destroying things. Ideas that justify this have become widespread. Due to the wrong doctrines of creation, ownership, rulership, and selection, humanity has been formed to repeatedly destroy and invade. A history of mistakes that began with lies and division is completed by Akira and Tetsuo. The work Akira is the key to humanity's awakening.

Over the years i've studied the universe, multiverse, metverse, omniverse, planes a existence, pocket universe, dimensions, and planes of reality.

Hillshire maybe
The first explosion that created Neo Tokyo was Akira becoming an universe
Anyone else appreciate akira way more after finishing the movie?
I just literally finished it man i dont even know what to say lmao

Watching this on LSD is a must
Great explanation.
Funny how a slime tutorial brought me here.
I learned that the reason Tetsuo even had psychic powers in the first place was because his grandfather was apart of the first Akira plan, and the powers skipped a generation.
I wished nothing bad happend to tetsuo he was so sweet and just wanted respect and got misunderstood
I agree with you 💯 👍

i'm particularly bad at analysing media as complex (and not so complex...) like this film, and your video was really helpful, well made, and straight to the point, loved it!!
Plus, the politicians being exposed as liars and manipulators in the end leads me to believe there's a message in the movie about trying to understand eachother and just being honest.
> disasters that happened ... would probably not have happened if they just communicated
Sounds like life.

OMG I AM INTERESTED in your explanation on atom bomb in anime as a whole!!! Love the video, I subbed.
1:01 low key bars
After 40+ years, I've finally come to understand Akira...
I think
Masterpiece of animation. Great analysis.
thank you for the breakdown. last time I saw this movie was 1992 in middle school & the ending had me stumped.
all these years later, you've answered my question.
thank you spook!
Akira is basically the same story as Star Wars prequels. kid gets corrupted by power and destroys everything, thinking that what he is doing is right.
False actually.
The guy that made the movie and manga was a genius. He thought about concepts that resemble a lot what Stephen Hawking seemed to have thought about black holes that could be their own big bang to the eyes of eventual observers somewhere in the future of this big bang.
I was born in 1988 and watch this film in 2019 - what a terrifying coincidence
I remember watching this with my brother as a kid. It stood out in my mind like some kind of myth. Ever since becoming an adult I've been trying to remember what I watched as a kid. Now I know, it was Akira I watched all those years ago. Quite serendipitous to have it randomly pop into my RUclips suggested videos. Makes me wonder if the SNES game that stands out in my mind will resurface in my life in the same way Akira did. Thank you for this video. It concluded a 15 year long quest.
This movie is crazy fun and badass and looks phenomenal. I recommend every anime fan watch it.
One of the best Akira analysis videos on yt! Props to the mentioning at the end that anime was influenced by the atomic bomb and the destruction it caused in hiroshima and nagasaki! I thought the same thing!

This movie is a masterpiece. It is not hard to understand it if you are a little awake during it. It is great to watch these kind of videos and others to further understand all the meaning behind each scene, dialogue and even music. I love this movie. I will read the mangas someday.
ufff i liked this video, being honest your explanation is way better than others, your channel is underrated
I'm glad you enjoyed my analysis!
juan_da_one I agree. One of the best explanation I have ever heard.
I always thought
Akira = Tetsuo
Kannada = Takashi
The girl = Kyoko
Akira never got to become and adult. In order to stop his explosion he had to literally invert himself... when all the espurrs jump into the 2nd explosion, they too invert themselves to imprint on the 4 protagonists left at the end of the movie...
I think kyoko notices their psychic ability earlier in the film
I love this idea, maybe we will see what happens next in the reboot series coming out!
This is by far the most complete explanation I could find online. Thank you.
I just saw this movie today.
Same.
I saw this 2 days ago!
i think this sums up what i saw, but i did get vibes of becoming pure energy through rebirth which spawns big bang kind of sense as tetsuo looked like a giant god fetus like creature before he was swallowed by the light that was akira.
and i think that the estimation that akira took tetsuo away to his dimension or universe to more or less save him from himself or maybe recruit him was what happened in the end, i'm not sure.
the movie had some stellar animation however i feel like it was a pretty rough movie to watch as it was really hard to follow plot points and it jumped from different parts of the cast giving away very little information except the visuals and it's like you had to just guess a lot of the plot or what they were trying to convey through the entire movie by context clues.
it was nice to look at but i felt no emotional connection to it, but it was pretty interesting because the plot points seemed pretty cool and i had to invest myself into it to understand it.
I reckon he was recruited to ram ranch
This is the best explanation and analysis of the film on youtube.
This movie changed my fucking life when I first saw it 25 years ago. I went and saw the original print for the 30 year anniversary, even met the guy who owns 90 percent of the cels. Thank you, this really means a lot to me!
I wish I had this video to go along with the movie back in 1989 when I first saw it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! (Even if I was 30 years or so late)
After finishing the movie I was so confused, and I knew the ending had a deep meaning but I didn’t know what it was. This video helped a lot with that

But that’s just a theory.....A game theory
Tetsuo says that he felt him absorb her, so I imagine that they might share a consciousness within their own new universe. Maybe Akira will teach him how to be a god with two personalities. Idk
For some reason I don't think their powers would be that specific, like being able to copy a thing like a person as if it were a set of Legos. If Akira created a separate universe I don't think it would be like say, Franklin Richards, I think he would create the necessary pressures and gravity for a universe to create itself if that makes sense.
I watched this movie with my partner and it was a wild ride because it went from gang wars, to political rebellion, to philosophy class, to action horror, to body horror, and then to existential horror
I loved every second of it even if I needed a while to process the whole thing
