Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on her legacy, China and the future | BBC News

  • Taiwan will enter a new era on Monday, as President Tsai ying-Wen hands over power.
    She's served two terms in office. And in that time, she has faced growing pressure from Beijing, which sees the self-governing island as a breakaway province.
    The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, has said that what he calls 'reunification' must be fulfilled, and Taiwan has effectively become more dependent on support from the US to ensure it continues to self-govern.
    Our correspondent Rupert Wingfield-Hayes has been to meet President Tsai, and ask her about her legacy.

    I still recall her concession speech after loss to Ma in the rain with amazing calmness and determination to convince the voters for her not to lose hope for 2020.

    • @KittyCEwert
      @KittyCEwert 28 дней назад +9

      Then she won her two terms and gave beautiful speeches full of promises and delivered NONE. That is why Lai, the new president elected also from Tsai's party, only got 40% of the votes compared to Tsai's nearly 80% in this past November presidential election. Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do 😂

      It is a drama. The speech didn't touch me because DPP always did it. Actually, Tsai selects to leave China instead of approaching China by Ma. No one knows who is right now.

      @kevindst 27 дней назад +23

      @@KittyCEwert The biggest reason Lai only got 40% is because there is a strong third candidate: Ko Wen-je. Come one man you know this.

      @@kevindst That was one of the reasons, yes. I personally would not deny the hard work that Tsai did regarding diplomatic relationships. However, hiding behind the propaganda of that ONLY DDP can deliver democracy in Taiwan to the voters domestically and create excessive fear among the nation, while some DDP party members continue to exploit the famers and fishermen into selling their livelihood to photovoltaic energy companies so "certain" contractors (usually companies own by the DDP members' families)can obtain profits from them shows zero democracy in my eyes...only pure greed.

When people move cash silently, no one knows if they are still under the "protective layer"? Is it because the Taiwanese mentality is not enlightened? The evolution of history always takes a lot of energy and time to "fall out of water and emerge from the rocky mountain island like Turtles island fallen the head already"? ! In addition, political corruption is busy making money for itself, and the national treasury is its own "treasury for making money...", and everything that comes in is in private pockets! Asking all the DPP What are you busy with? 🥸🥸🥸👹⋯⋯No wonder you don’t see the lead needs to coming out of the hall for meeting who?! Then boom 💥, Now giant AI is coming, All rushing to "donate cash as a side job"⚡️⚡️⚡️When their pockets are still full of cash!! Who will listening in the government team flood all with cash in the pocket of DPP?!! Because the behavioral and thought patterns have grown along with the scam⋯⋯🌪️ ⚡️🌪️⚡️💥
      So buying all the big names in AI?!! they were all rushing to donate cash. No one could find out how the Taiwan government all broke system. It’s been 20 years since people bought houses with cash. House prices have risen. No one can afford fast growth, but the actual national fiscal figures have not grown at all. Why??? Cash flow It’s not on the books at all. How can we calculate it? ! 💥🌪️⚡️💥
      Then those kind-hearted people who don’t do bad things can only be hungry, and even those who “do evil things” are more corrupt than any person with good customs and habits... Then what? ! These cycles 🔄 start from early deployment when the severe crackdown is about to end, and move step by step to the higher level of how to hide cash... Where no one able to check? China has already "landed" on the far-side of the moon. It is a matter of time, 5 years maybe ?, that China will eventually catch up with AI chips. I wonder what will go into the history book when US no longer sees Taiwan as an edge in the semi-conductor world ? Just imagine when that happened. China's manufacturing capacity will flood the world with cheap cheap AI chips which are so expensive now. It will be game over for US. You think Taiwan will be their worry then ? US Democracy will be a different definition.

The world also needs to stop being such cowards when it comes to this truth. But you got to admire Biden, he openly declared this. So the world knew and still bend towards US anyhow.
