  • It's time to talk about tvs. OLED and LED have their strengths and weaknesses... but the led has a distinct hdr impact that oled still can't match. It all comes down to it... contrast and black levels, or pure brightness and hdr pop?

X930e is still an absolutely stunning TV I do find it amazing how it seems sony went back to that 2016-2017 look a bit which I'm absolutely in love with. Of course with its improvemtns but there is a reason 2016-2017 was so good for sony. Now for me I'm not into crazy brightness I only was for a short time. I prefer that oled image even during the brighter scenes just to my eyes. I prefer that deeper/darker look but for me the a90j is the perfect sweet spot for me. I'm actually going to miss this type of oled later. I don't even use my a90j like that. But I will say for people that want that just use brightness preffered and things or even contrast enhancements which sony seems to be pushing for 2022 as if they actually want us to use it. We shall see though. Of course led will always win in full screen brightness it will win in those type of scenes but luckily I'm so happy with how it shows scenes. Also this yesr we are going to see the master drive coming back from the z9d so the z9k will have it yay. Also the x95k led is going to be great since it will be mini led. Think about sony processing and there algorithm with such few zones now they will have those zones so I want you to check out the x95k.

With sony control over zones and algorithm I can't wait to see what they can do with the z9k also the x95k will have more zones finally and mini led so I can't wait to see it. This is the year for sony led tvs I can alsmot promise you that. Me I love my oled image even next to brighter led tvs but that's my preference I do know the benefits of led also though and would never say oh get an oled over led if you like led. If you like led go for it. I do believe these new led tvs this year from sony will be something else. I at least want to test the x95k haha. It looks like the a90j is getting a price drop soon and could be a good move for you as opposed to the new panels this year... I don't know. Like I said in the video, both technologies have their perks. The depth by oled is unmatched but the HDR impact on a solid led tv cannot be touched by oled. I would take a look at what you regularly consume for content. If you have alot of bright content and with heavy hdr elements, stick with the z9f. I would also wait and see what the z9k is doing this year. The mini led with the backlight master drive could be gamechanging

I still have a 55" sony 930e as well and It was one of the last panels made from 2018. Its also a very clean panel as well. My questions for you as I am Going to get another Oled(as the CX didnt cut it and gave it to my folks). For gaming in SDR games with the PS5 how does the brightness compare in game for full picture APL level?? I know the 930e can put out alot of brightness But Id like to know how you felt and feel with the a90J sdr gaming? Where you surprised at how bright it was, did it leave you wanting more brightness or did you just say to yourself this is not what you expected and at that moment had buyers remorse? I also ask because the Sony A95k isnt going to be much brighter if the rumors are true. Im a Sony Processing fan always have been but the Samsung S95b has been looking very tempting. Still some things its gotta work out and the recent patch did end up lowering the amount of brightness so not sure on the samsung. Just would really like to hear your thoughts since you went from a 930e to a A90j. thanks

All in all I've been happier with the colors and contrast from the oled. And for gaming the pixel response is alot better. In terms of brightness though, there are times abl kicks in still and it ruins HDR/sdr gaming. If the content youre playing is varied, you'll be fine, but if it's sports games or the game has alot of static images on screen, it tends to kick in. All in all besides sports games and Gran Turismo to an extent, the TV's have been great. I do very much miss the sustained brightness of the 930e for gaming though. Granted you lose a solid picture when you enable vrr on led TV's. Each technology has it's tradeoffs. I would say I'd give a slight edge to the OLED, but I do miss sdr and HDR brightness from my 930e.

@@SpencersStuffTV I was asking the SDR gaming question in relation to call of duty. I play cod in SDR almost 100% of the time. The reason I held off is because of the Sony A95K which wouldve been out right now but was pushed back so you can see my predicament. And Im not sure as Im not ready to pull the trigger because theres that chance Sony will push the QD oled harder than the A90J. I also understand how the brightness levels of G2 and A90J are just to where the colors arnt suffering from Wrgb oleds. But the A95K price hike is hard to justify without seeing. I wish Sony would implement a game dash board like Samsung and LG. If they did this I feel like they would make more $$$. But, gaming to Sony is an after thought. Im sure that in their mind they think that why would someone game on our flagship Sony or master series when they could just use a monitor for gaming. I feel like that is the thought process.

It looked like the Samsung had a bit smoother motion in that scene. Im not a fan of Soe at all either. It seems that if the motion settings on the samsung(off?) were set to be the same as the Sony(off?) its motion processing will have added interpolation or smoothing compared to the Sony. Im thinking about going for the A90J. I really would like to see both side by side to compare the full field brightness. Vincent did say that its near black gamma is tracking a bit over than reference. Not surprised about that. The A95K is what 4k for a 65" and the A90J Can be got for around $2500.
