Great video, I'm a subscriber now. A couple of weeks ago I watched my first HDTV test video and I made a comment that it was too technical for an average user. I was wrong and I sincerely apologize for that remark. I've since learned about HDR, nits, wide color gamut, DCI-P3, IPS vs. VA panels etc. and this channel is arguably the best in breaking down concepts and technologies so that anyone with interest in tv technology can understand them. Judging from the number of views, subscribers and comments people make, the average user of TV sets today is much more tech-savvy and well-informed than, say, 5 years ago and credit probably goes to unbiased expert reviews like this one or rtings. Respect, sir.
Many bows to you sir! I have this tv and am thrilled to see such a thorough review (and the tips!). For those interested, the haloing effect is indeed highly exaggerated to prove a point here. It is very slight and does not take me out of the experience.
I am considering this tv , but the blooming did scary me a little, so i am thinkin of th x90 instead. In a complete dark rom, is the blooming very visible? or is it just noticeble when looking for it?
For instance I have a video up with letterbox and subtitles and you will see there is no visible blooming. The local dimming option increases this slightly, but even so unless you have a scene where the majority of the image is dark, but there are very bright areas next to the top and bottom of the screen near the letterbox, you will not notice this. When my OPPO UDP-203 screensaver is on, there is an increase in brightness of the blacks slightly next to the logo moving on screen against a black background, but it does not look like distinct halo. It almost looks like the letters are just shining brighter.
Jonas Celentano I got the 900E yesterday and it's fantastic. There is no blooming with the black bars at all. It's inky black. The colors and brightness are amazing. There have been instances where I had to look away it was so bright, but the picture is outstanding. I'm very happy so far and I'm really picky. Lol
no he diden't . the peak brightness will be more then the OLED and there will be no worry about screen burn in. another resson i stay away from OLED if your a gamer and he is a gamer.
This tv is to this day still is an absolute beast, goes to show VA Panels peaked with Sony's models in 2017. Even the most recent Miniled tv's from Samsung mostly are behind this model (Q800NA), only the Samsung NEO QN90A I would consider an upgrade but that one sets you back around 2K Euro's and doesn't even support Dolby Vision. Essentially you still need to buy an OLED or the Q900NA in order to get a better panel than this. If you truly need HDMI 2.1 then the story changes though...
I bought this 3 years ago and it still blows me away when I watch it. The android update just made it better, and yes the HDR performance even today is spectacular. One area not mentioned is the sound, for a TV like this it sounds excellent, watching sky 4k content with atmos triggers dolby digital plus and it can really throw out sound effects way past its boundaries. Just don't enable youview, it ruins the whole thing!
3 years after the release and this tv is still a beast! Waiting for something from sony to repleace it with the new hdmi 2.1 features and same or better hdr performance but still nothing comes close. Even things like cable management system is a significant downgrade on their newer tv's comparing to zd9 or xe93. Wish they release something like famous zd9 with 600+ dimming zones and all the hdmi 2.1 features...
Excellent review, I've been looking at a fair few reviews but this one seals the deal for me. XE900E it is for my Xbox One X & PS4 Pro later this year.
Hi Vincent, really appreciate the work you put into these vids. I am in the process of looking for a new TV. May I ask, what is your daily driver? I guess I can't go wrong buying whatever you use at home
Thank you for this well-done review. I recently purchased a 65x930e and absolutely love it. That purchase decision was heavily influenced by this excellent and detailed review.
Hi There, Your reviews are very informative and are super helpful! I ended up buying the Sony X930e because I was impressed with the image quality and the styling of the TV. Now 3 years later I have a PS5, and I'm trying to use my X930 to it's full capabilities. I understand that this TV is 120hz, but I cannot get the 120 refresh rate to activate on COD Cold War. I have turned off HDR and "forced" the TVs resolution to 1080P. I also set the PS5 on "performance mode". However, I cannot activate the 120hz refresh rate on COD Coldware using my X930e. Is this TV not capable of a 1080p 120Hz refresh rate with the PS5??
Great video! I have this TV alone with Sony 800 4K Blu-ray player. I see I will have to make some tweaks to it for the best viewing experience. You gave an in depth analysis of this tv. I think you articulated it very well. You sounded like a salesman
Vincent, thank you very much for this review! I’ve picked up mine and I have to say it’s the best television I’ve ever owned. I have had the pleasure of testing LGb7 OLED at my friend’s house prior to buying 930e and I have to say, blacks in 930e are very-very close to LG’s OLED models. But 930e does have more shadow detail compared to OLED. Colours are truly spectacular and vivid! It is correct that blooming effect in this video is exaggerated, it is present and minor, and doesn’t bother me personally. In games like Red Dead Redemption 2 there is no visible blooming past black bars in cinematic scenes. I guess, it depends on the content and sitting position. I have picked up a 15$ LED bias kit from amazon and it works very well! I find 930e to be better, with deeper blacks and contrast than 2018’s 900f. Again, your review was very useful!
Hey Vincent. I’m thinking about buying this TV in the new year to go with my PS4 pro. Thanks for the great, in depth review of this set, you helped me make my mind up. Any recommendations on settings to get the best out of the PS4 pro with this model? Thanks for your review.
Just bought the 55" model of this TV based on your XF90, XE90 and XE93 shootout plus your two videos on XE93 setup and review. The choice was between an XG95, XF90 or this XE93. The price difference between the XG95 and XF90 was too close boiling it down to the XG95 or the XE93. The price on the XE93 was too good to pass up. I'm not a gamer, so 1080p vs 4k gaming isn't a consideration. I've got an original 480p Wii and that's plenty for me. The XE93 is heavy compared to the 2018 and 2019 Sony 55", and compared to the 2010 46" LED Sony Bravia it's replacing. The upscaling, contrast and color gamut are quite impressive. Still experimenting with some of the basic display settings. Converting the Home Theater with Blu-ray player to 4k isn't a priority although my Roku has 4k capability. I'll probably move it from a Home Theater HDMI input to the 4k HDMI without the ARC on the TV.
Thank you for sharing your professional expertise on what each product represents!!! It really helps me decide what TV to buy. What about also adding soundbars in the mix? Just a thought!
Hi Steve, great review, got a 65XE93 last week, waiting for delivery day... In the meantime can you please post the picture settings of the XE93 used for the review....? Thanks
This is the best TV reviews channel on youtube. Please one question . If you had to choose between the XE93 65 inch or the OLED LG B7V 55 inch which you would go for please. I watch mostly spacey sci fi movies :)
That bow :D So cool, another great review. Keep it up and you will be a RUclips star in the AV community :) I like that you started with an unboxing and setup video earlier so you could collect questions from the comments. Do the same with all TVs
Great review! What’s your suggestion of turning on or off the live colour function in the colour sub-menu for viewing HDR movies or SDR general content? Thanks.
Great review. Helped me with my decision. Just wondering, with regards to the boss lighting, what makes the ideal lume series so great when compared to the cheaper ones you find on Amazon? The ideal lume pro LEDs for instance is on sale for 249 dollars!
Hey Vincent, I'm looking for a new TV and can't decide between the xe93 und the LG C7. Both are at the exact same price, but I'm a little bit concerned about OLED issues like burn in effects and so on. Could you give me an advice which one to choose? Thanks a lot. I love your reviews. Keep it on!
Great review! I am still torn between X930E and LG OLED B7. I watch mostly movies, in a darkened room. However, I have a large collection of regular DVDs that will need to be upscaled. All are letterboxed. The Sony has superior upscaling and HDR according to your bows! But the B7 will give me clean blacks, clean letterbox edges, in a darkened room with no Halo. Which of the two would you recommend for my needs?
I have an "old" Panasonic TX-P42S10E Plasma and i'm extremely happy with it...the picture-quality...vibrating colours...contrast...motion flow...all is really awesome... :) Is this a good-one to buy? ..."Sony KD-55A1" maybe better than the Sony XE930?or not?
It would have been nice to include non-increased ISO footage of the same segments for comparison's sake. Right now it only looks terrible with no way of seeing how it performs in real life (as far as a camera can capture it anyway). How is the dark scene/black barperformance compared to say a UE KS9000 or 8000?
The version here is the 55inch,..I'm planning on getting the 65,...is there any difference besides size?...thank in advance and love this channel,...god bless RUclips.
Thank you for doing these reviews! After watching your review of this 930e, I won't buy it because of the very small item you pointed out of the light bleeding through to the letterbox lines. Even the smallest things are deal breakers. I was wondering if you have a recommendation for a TV that is just like the 930e, but does not have the light bleed in the letterbox? I am afraid of getting an LG OLED because I have watched videos where the IR stays on the screen for way too long even with the programs turned on that are supposed to reduce it and the nits are too low. Any info is appreciated.
I have the X930E and it’s not bad at all. But with the newer TVs on the market I would choose something else particularly without an Android operating system (much too slow). I also have similar thoughts on OLED regarding image retention and burn so I won’t be buying rose either 👍💯
Vincent I need your professional advice. I have the 930E and the new Sony 4K X800 player. I was wondering which device will do the best 4K upscaling the 4K player or the TV? I see you praised the upscaling on the tv since it has the X1 extreme chip. But which would give me the best picture quality? I have my Yamaha receiver set to pass through so that the receiver doesn't do any upscaling and the Sony 4k uhd player upscaling to off. I did pay about 3k so something tells me not to use any other device to let it upscale but use the x1 extreme chip processor to upscale everything since that's the reason why I got the tv for its processor but like I said is it really any better then using the receiver or 4K player upscaling processing instead? I learned that even tho the signal says 1080p on tv it's still technically being upscale by tv in 4k otherwise my 1080p picture wouldn't fit the entire screen. So am I doing the right thing by letting the x1 extreme processor do the work or should I let the receiver or 4k player do it for me? Btw I have the Yamaha Rx-v681 it will support Dolby vision soon via firmware. I think it will also be great if you do a video explaining how upscaling works I think most people are confused by it. Great videos vin keep it up.
I've owned the 65in version and had no black bar bleeding at all. Contrast is fantastic. I think I got a great panel. Netflix, Amazon , bluray. All upscaling is exceptional. Just sayin
Thanks for the review. Do you think this SONY is better than the LG65SJ950v? I'm looking for 65`` and both, LG and SONY are in the same price at the moment. Thank you in advance.
how does this compare to the newer tvs like the x950h, because it seems like the picture quality is the same and they keep getting less bright over time.
Hi Vincent, about your comment on 12:15 "The letterbox bars cannot be truly darkened." Not just for this TV but in general, I wonder, wouldn't it be useful for the user to make letterbox bars be 25% gray, or some customizable level of gray, but not black? I have wondered about that for a long time, even from plasma times. Back then not because of halos or blooming, but to reduce image retention on the plasma panel (so arguably 40-50% could have been better for those cases) Same for the vertical bars when watching 4:3 content. For this TV the reason would be to simply minimize/hide the blooming effect as shown on 4:05, so only for the horizontal letterbox bars. This could be a relatively trivial feature to implement for manufacturers (e.g. much more so than ambilight in the Philips) and I think it would help even when watching with some room light, not only in pitch dark rooms. No idea why it has not been implemented. Do you think intentionally dark grey letterbox bars could be beneficial/detrimental compared to black ones, for this particular TV?
Hi, I was looking for an new TV, in cause of you and your very good reviews I bought a Sony XE93 👍 and your a right, the picture is amazing :), I wanna thank you to help me with the decision cause today it's not even easy to find and buy a good TV, nice greetings
hello Vincent nice vids and good work so far, And wouldn't be better if they made the led arrangement top to bottom and left to right instead of 2 on top and 2 on bottom which can somewhat reduce the banding i presume. thanks for the effort and tell me how to reduce the haloing from the settings.
can you help me? I don't know what to decide between the Sony x900e or the x930e? I wanna know what has the best gaming, movie, tv cable, sports, the whole 9 yards.. please and thank you, your channel is great 👍
Hello, thanks for this great review. I´m getting a new TV from my dealer because my XD9305 is broken. I´m using the TV 70% for gaming 15% Netflix and Amazon Streaming and 15% Blu Ray and 4K Blu Ray. Now I´m in between the Sony XE9305 or the new LG C7 OLED. Can you give me advise what TV I should get or another one instead of LG C7 and Sony XE9305? sorry for my bad English... I´m from Austria :) br Michael
Hi Vincent - your reviews are excellent so thanks for your presentation. You give enough detail to allow me to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the specific technology without leaving me baffled. I think the Sonys have the edge at the moment for my needs and my prefs would be the x740e for 75" then either the a1e or z9d in 65" sizes. Guess it comes down to pricing too :-) Cheers
Great review Vincent! At this time I'm really torn between this and the XE90, currently with the offers going on the price difference is only around € 170 however I'm a little concerned about the edge lit display on XE93, why didn't Sony go for FALD in this TV is beyond me. The black bar blooming effect due to the edge LEDs is a major let down, however, I'm still very interested in going for the XE93 given marginal price difference owing to stellar HDR performance and Dolby Vision support. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me get out of this dilemma, is XE93 going to be inferior in ANY way compared to XE90 due to it being an edge lit instead of full array?
Thank you sooo much Mr Teo Your review gave me the info to buy the 65 inch! I could not the afford Sony Oled which i really wanted to purchase. The X930E is the best i ever owned! What can i do to properly calibrate this TV?
You mentioned the ZD9 quite a few times. Am i right that you did not make a video review of this set? Or am i just unable to find it? Regarding this Video, great information, as always. Thanks for you work.
I have just heard about the PKG6.5629.0177NAA update for the 930e causing issues with the local dimming resulting a dark flashes transitioning between scenes or bright light moving around the screen. Have you witnessed this yourself. I'm about 48 hours away from buying this tv and would hate to buy it knowing this is a real issue. Thanks in advance if you address this.
Hopefully Sony will address the light bleed into the black bars in the 2018 models. This is a deal breaker for me. Was thinking of going with the 900E since it's full-array and I hear there is no blooming and light bleed into the black bars with the 900E, but you don't get Dolby Vision with the 900E (that's a bummer). I wish the A1E Oled was brighter, I would spend the money and get that. So I might just have to wait for the 2018 models and hope Sony has resolved the issues with their 2017 models.
Heather Robbins hey do you have the 930e? I’m looking to buy next week and can’t decide on the x900e or the X930e I keep watching one video after another lol and they’re both on sale for good prices. I’m torn!!
Richard A I actually have the 900E bought it last week at best buy and I'm not happy with the brightness they have the 930E for $200 more and I'm seriously thinking about taking my 900 back for the 930 for the brightness. Haha I'm right there with you I have been up all night long watching videos haha
I have compared this to a Z9D. This gets just as bright to the point where you can't really tell the difference. I'm getting a 930D tomorrow and I pray it gets bright enough till SONY knocks my socks off later down the road in a few more years.
X93E with "Center in" (TV speakers as center speaker in a surround system). It seems, Sony has (since...?) "Center-In", but at what TV models? Are there big differences between X930E and X930D? Especially the picture quality.
@hdtvtest at this point with the announcement of the new cheaper Sony OLED’s and x900F, would you wait until March to see the results of those models, or would you go for the X900E or X930E at the lower prices available today. And if so which model do you recommend? Which model has had less complaints about in 2017?
It's this TV Dolby atmos-enabled? I'm running it into an atmos capable Denon receiver with ARC but when Im watching Netflix it only says Dolby Vision it does not say Dolby Atmos on the Netflix app . But the receiver itself does show that it's playing in Atmos even though the TV is not displaying it. But watching other videos on RUclips I see other videos where it displays Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision on Netflix movies. My Netflix app is updated with the latest software.

You've sold me on purchasing the X930E vs their OLED as it isn't in my budget. I'm also purchasing it for the upcoming Xbox one X!
Great review!
Since it's been almost 3 months since you've written that comment, how are you finding the TV? I heard this TV has 50hz refresh rate, not 60.
this tv is awesome got it last week and is a beast of tv.. no motion blur at all
Claymore2408 It has a refresh rate of 120hz. It's awesome with the one X. Assassin's Creed looks incredible.
Nick Hernandez 930 cost almost the same as an oled 100 dollar difference, well u just fucked up lol

Just hooked up my new 55inch 930E to my oppo 203 and watched Planet Earth 2 in 4k. One word stunning.
john stembridge complete black levels?
John Stembridge, do you use auto or source direct on the oppo for 4k content?
Yes, would love to see your review of the Sony X900E also.
I got this over 900f all around higher peak brightness, more dimming zones and better build all for same price its no brainer IMO.
Thanks you decided my t.v pick with this comment
Showing the internal processor specs is very helpful! Thank you guys so much. Great review!

i'm looking for a 4k TV right now, your job is very useful to me. The most important thing to me, is the smoothness without handycam feeling.
Your review particularly with the HDR portion sold this for me. Thank you! Now subscribed.
Can we get some love for the 900E? It's a fantastic TV. Lol
One day, yes. :-)
HDTVTest even from the video the hdr look more controlled
I second this request!

Hi Vincent! Great channel and review.
Does the 65" have a different number of dimming zones compared to the 55"?
New update has come out March 28th 2018 adds Dolby Vision and improve the TV in motion and mild additional bandage fixes in UK and APAC.

Thank you for the review. Liked!! I now own the 930E. How about a calibration tips video for your YT community ?

Wow you are 100% the best tv tester and reviewer! Such a great job, and the test footage was great to see. Looking forward to seeing more reviews
Thank you for sharing your professional expertise on what each product represents!!! It really helps me decide what TV to buy. What about also adding soundbars in the mix? Just a thought!
Can you please do a review of the Sony XE9005? I love your reviews!
When we receive a sample, yes.
Not sure if you will read my comment, can I know which one is better between Sony XE93 with Panasonic EX750? Can I have your opinion.
Cathy Yip XE93
Hi Steve, great review, got a 65XE93 last week, waiting for delivery day... In the meantime can you please post the picture settings of the XE93 used for the review....? Thanks
More great information! In your opinion, what has a better picture experience and quality, Sony XE93 or the Samsung Q9. Thank You!!

Thanks for the video. Quick question. Do you select a TV of the year? Wondering what is your top choice by year.
That bow :D So cool, another great review. Keep it up and you will be a RUclips star in the AV community :) I like that you started with an unboxing and setup video earlier so you could collect questions from the comments. Do the same with all TVs
Still one of the best TV's in 2019.
James Bond yep I own this should I replace It for Q90R Samsung?
Not as good as X950G.
Robert Kelly which?
Robert Kelly X93E is better than X95G
Now, there is a man who knows how to review a TV!
Awesome review. Keep a good work. Waiting for xe90 review also :)
Great review! What’s your suggestion of turning on or off the live colour function in the colour sub-menu for viewing HDR movies or SDR general content? Thanks.
How about doing a unboxing and review of the Flagship Z9D/ZD9 series?
TeK PhaN 👍 Z9D
Yes Z9D/ZD9 VIDEO REVIEW WE WANT A VIDEO REVIEW! You are best reviewer.
Ced''S Entertainment Channel [( spac20 )] yes a Z9D video review!
Keep it on!
loved the review. precise and complete. please review sony A1E oled tv soon
Splendid work! .. I am goining to get this TV soon .. Thank you indeed for this professional review 👍
Better.
Sold great video. Looking forward to this tv with my ps4 pro
me too, can't wait for it!
And how's it with the PS4? Test show the input lag is a little high in 1080p.
The version here is the 55inch,..I'm planning on getting the 65,...is there any difference besides size?...thank in advance and love this channel,...god bless RUclips.
the weight is unbearable for one person to move on the 65inch. the speakers in the 65 inch suppose to be big and better too
the 55inch has red oversaturation
thanks.....still saving up,..almost there.....i hate bills.
Just sayin
Amazing tv, buyed the 65". Love it
Thanks for the review.
Hi, thanks for the review. Just wondering if you have seen the lag increase when changing input from 4k to 1080p before. is it common on 4k tv's?
Sir,
You are doing great job
I learn lots of stuff about TVs from your vedios
Thinking this is the one for my PS4 pro. Thank you for a great review. Many bows
I watch this video once a day since it was posted before I go to my bust a$$ job as motivation,...I'm going to get the 65inch of this tv.
great vid, you really know what you're talking about ;) I wish more reviewers went into this amount of detail
Great review thank you. How will this xe93 handle motion with 1080i content please? The lg c7 is having some trouble there.
excellent review..one question:will you recommend this tv over q7f in terms of gaming and 1080p movies? Thanks
Yes.
I wanna know what has the best gaming, movie, tv cable, sports, the whole 9 yards.. please and thank you, your channel is great 👍
It would be interesting to see a 2018 full hd tv review and if it still relevant over the 4K tv
Excellent review! Enough tech to make concepts understandable, without making the eyes glaze over.
Hello,
thanks for this great review.
I´m from Austria :)
br
Michael
Vincent's answer would of course be to get a professional calibrator to calibrate it for you :)
You mentioned the ZD9 quite a few times. Am i right that you did not make a video review of this set? Or am i just unable to find it?
Regarding this Video, great information, as always. Thanks for you work.
We did not do a video review of the ZD9 because Sony whisked our sample away last year before we could shoot a video, sorry.
HDTVTest Do you plan on doing a Z9D review?
I have just heard about the PKG6.5629.0177NAA update for the 930e causing issues with the local dimming resulting a dark flashes transitioning between scenes or bright light moving around the screen. Have you witnessed this yourself. I'm about 48 hours away from buying this tv and would hate to buy it knowing this is a real issue. Thanks in advance if you address this.
What would be the comparison to this tv compared to Samsung
Hopefully Sony will address the light bleed into the black bars in the 2018 models. This is a deal breaker for me. Was thinking of going with the 900E since it's full-array and I hear there is no blooming and light bleed into the black bars with the 900E, but you don't get Dolby Vision with the 900E (that's a bummer). I wish the A1E Oled was brighter, I would spend the money and get that. So I might just have to wait for the 2018 models and hope Sony has resolved the issues with their 2017 models.
you can also use some black mats to cover the black bars and it would be problem solved!!
lgmnow kondo Inky Black Electricians Tape sticks better. Lol.
I just used black paint
What would you recommend for a living room tv mainly watching tv and movies? Looking at the X900F, X930E or LG B7
Please do a video on sony 930E best settings or what you like running it at :)
Heather Robbins Good choice
I have compared this to a Z9D. This gets just as bright to the point where you can't really tell the difference. I'm getting a 930D tomorrow and I pray it gets bright enough till SONY knocks my socks off later down the road in a few more years.
Thank you. You helped me a lot. The best Pro reviwer for this model on RUclips
Vincent is a god amongst tv reviewers
Good review why sony dont give all screen details about content u have in screen like the Picture, sound or frames for second like Samsung or LG.
Excellent review but can we please get a review of the Sony Z9D?
X93E with "Center in" (TV speakers as center speaker in a surround system). It seems, Sony has (since...?) "Center-In", but at what TV models?
Are there big differences between X930E and X930D? Especially the picture quality.
Sir should I buy this tv now? Or should i opt for other options?
Hello Vincent,
Hats off to you sir your reviews are very informative and revealing. Please do the review of Sony XBR-65Z9D.
Thnx Bro
Hello Theo, I was wondering, performances, pros and cons are the same for the 55” AND 65”?
Thank you in advance
This is now corrected and atmos does work now
Should I look for a 65 oled or buy this TV? My use is for Netflix in a room that is neither bright or dark
Good video , so now we are all waiting for XE940 and A1 :)
