@@poloreacts27 Hey, it happens. Personally, I prefer to listen to music, especially if it's live, sober. Mostly because I want to remember exactly how the show was. Also because sometimes you end up arround people really high and out of it (especially at festivals). They always seem to find me... And want to hang out. (That's what happens when you're a metalhead who looks like a kindergarden teacher/mini van driving soccer mom. But I'm neither.)
This song hit me so hard during my divorce. It still brings tears to my eyes every time. I was suicidal and so hurt, I listened to this on repeat for months. I can't say it helped the depression but I can tell you it hit hard. "It took the death of hope to let you go."
As a woman, who also listened to this on repeat after a very heavy breakup, and a fan of this song/band in general, it definitely hits different when you're in this type of pain. And every time I hear it I almost wanna turn it off. But it reminds me I'm alive and able to feel it and be OK ❤
It’s been over a year now since mine. She has found someone else and we have such a terrible relationship coparenting for our son. I was blessed enough to survive my attempt. This song is now a reminder that the pain I went through and my mental state was justified. Though it isn’t a death sentence. I will live with my mistakes and continue to fight for as perfect I life as I can for my son. “Angels lie to keep control” has just as much weight as “it took the death of hope to let you go” did 1.5 years ago.
He wrote this song going thru a bad brake up...Paul Grey, og bass player helped him with writing it. Paul died in 2010...so now he thinks of him instead of the horrible break up. This song helped millions of people...its beautiful ❤ R.i.p. Paul and Joey!
All these lines are an extension of the same concept - there is no soft landing in letting go of someone. The pain someone feels only gets worse if the other person keeps reaching back, giving them hope, looking for contact...just keeping them hanging on longer. That's why the first one is "if you love me, let me go"
Slipknot has something for everyone, tested through a 20+ year career and still running. I know as a youth, with little means and great instability in my family life, slipknot would fill me with a sense of worth and power that I lacked in my life. Not a destructive rage but a construction fire that helped me forge a good life against the odds. I am a Maggot to the core, and I love that you are becoming a Maggot as well. Welcome!!
This song is the perfect definition of depression. The way you try to mess everything up because you think you're going to destroy it in the end. Finding someone you love but constantly thinking that you don't deserve them. You try and and explain to them what's going on and they slowly try to distance themselves. You take everything the wrong way and tell them "I never claimed to be a saint". Songs heavy as hell. The brain is one of the most complex organs in the human body but the easiest to break. Always treat someone with respect and passion. You don't know what's going on inside them.
The impact listening to it this way is immense. But seing Slipknot or just Corey sing it live right in front of you.......the chills and emotion is overwhelming. Corey tears up almost anytime he sings it. I actually have a video of him doing it live back in September from front row.
I know this has probably been said to death But it truly is wild, that SlipKnot’s hardest song Is their most mild This track hits like a damned freight train
Corey is an amazing vocalist when he’s singing clean. Songs like this are the exception for Slipknot. He has/had another band called Stone Sour and they are “lighter” than Slipknot. I believe he just came out with new material under his own name. A great track to check out would be the acoustic cover of Chris Issak’s Wicked Game. Absolutely beautiful version.
"It took the death of hope to let you go." That line ties it all together and hits so hard. I'm not sure this song helps me, but it's something that moves me in so many ways... "I wish you weren't my friend..." Yeah. That.
As good as the album version is, Corey's acoustic version has so much emotion that it becomes epic. Even if you don't do a reaction to it definitely check it out. And then follow it up with his Sponge Bob Square Pants rendition off the same acoustic video 😁 BTW...the entire acoustic show is worth a watch 👍
When I heard it the first time I couldn't believe it was Slipknot... I know them cause my son heard them a lot. When I saw their videos I felt like that's way too much 😅😜🤯. I love metal but I don't like it if they are "roaring" and yelling and it isn't real singing 😎. This is my favorite Slipknot song and love Corey's voice. So glad you finally listened to it. Saw them play this song live last year- the whole pit area stood there and sang this song together. It was so amazing. Another song you may like of theirs is Vermillion and also Vermilion part 2.. thank you for the reaction.
Wait and Bleed, Left Behind, My Plague, Before I Forget, Duality and Psychosocial are songs that blew up Slipknot (multiple times) over the years and cemented their career. Huge Chorus in each of these. Fans will recommend their favourites (I often do) but these songs were the "Essential Hits" that were on repeat on most metal TV channels back in the day
Ive heard this a zillion times and still get tears...this hits me everytime...Corery gets teary when he performs it live...i heard this 1st when i had my 1st ever real break up 20 years ago...every note and lyric i could relate to back then..anykne can actually...wether its break up or losing some you care about...its one of the best songs ever made ...most saddest songs in the world have been made by metal/rock bands
My Dude, i NEVER comment on anything... But this is the most relatable reaction to this song I've ever seen/heard. Keep the genuine appreciation of music going. Love/LIVE it. 👍
Corey Taylor has an acoustic version of this that he dedicates to his friend Paul Gray, R.I.P. Paul. Paul was the original bass player for Slipknot. Corey had troubles getting through the song and the crowd helps him finish. Such an emotional moment. 😢
corey taylor wrote this song after his wife left him, he was so heartbroken by it and the song perfectly expresses the emotions that come with heartbreak, it helped me get over my last relationship
Thanks for the reaction, it’s definitely a song that resonates with anyone who’s ever lost someone. Slipknot has more versatility in music than most bands and glad you enjoyed this side of them
I don't know anyone who hasn't cried to this song. Thanks for reviewing it. It's a heartbreaking song, and it is heartbreaking every time Corey sings it.
Wonderful song and the video was great that accompanied it. I was brought to Slipknot when I first heard a superb track Vermillion Pt2. Really need to listen to it. Shows that band are anywhere but one dimensional
Slipknot is primarily a juggernaut of extreme metal 🤘🤘 w/ shredding tracks like - 'Left behind'... 'Surfacing'... 'The blister exists'... 'Duality'... etc. But once in a while, Slipknot churns out these intense gems like 'Snuff' (this was all Corey Taylor's songwriting) and they have these rather haunting, heavy songs like - 'Vermillion'... 'Gently' ... 'Killpop'... 'Gehenna'... 🔥🔥 that give Slipknot a musical diversity that most current bands do not have.
For me, this song makes me think of my upbringing, but it’s still just as powerful. The line that plays on repeat in my head is “Love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage.” It’s so descriptive of what I feel.
Part of what makes slipknot so addicting is how much lore and attention to detail there is in their art. Understanding the journey of their lives while they released their music and the things that influenced them at the time is really what makes me put them on repeat. It all so real and felt. Some good songs are Surfacing, Devil in I, Unsainted, Chapeltown Rag, disasterpiece too though that one is pretty heavy.
Not gonna lie, makes ya cry, and this is why... Corey Taylor (from Kerrang! July 19, 2008): "This is the slow one. It's another personal one. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. At the same time, it was good that she did, because it was that final push to me figuring out myself."
My understanding is that Corey now treats it as a double meaning... still disappointed with the woman in question but also makes him remember Paul.... in the live version he looks to "the Heavens" a lot
This song, along with I remember everything - five finger death punch and So far away- avenged sevenfold helped me get through the death of my wife of 20 years.
Ive been a slipknot fan since 01. This is one of my favorite Slipknot songs. In the video, corey actually broke down but desided to keep it in. The words in this song are awesome. You should check out Vermillion: Part 2.
For me Slipknot became popular at the perfect time in my life where I was angry, I hated people, and just had a lot of misguided rage in me. So when I heard their Iowa album when it came out it just fit like a puzzle piece for me. It gave me an outlet where I could latch on to the music rather than my rage. Then Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses came out at the perfect time where I was over all that, and while it was still aggressive it wasn't anger/rage filled and was a perfect fit for me at that time. Crazy how you can latch on to music to get you through things...
Vermillion pt 2 is basically mine and a childhood friends anthem. He didn't enjoy the hard rock stuff at all but slipknot, their softer side, we can ALWAYS agree on. ❤ forever a fan.
AS much as you like live versions , this song has a live acoustic version that will make your jaw drop. Physosocial, before i forget, dead memories, solway firth , all songs that will make you re evaluate your opinion of Slipknot.
Yessss! 8:45 every single line in this song is so meaningful ! This has always been my fav song of theirs though I love their loud crazy ones , this is the one. You should also listen to Gehenna by them also !
Corey is such an underrated writer, and this is a deeply personal song despite what anyone might say, I have zero doubt he was in a place when he wrote this. My favorite line, "it took the death of hope to let you go" and this song is from the album "All Hope is Gone"
It's a very powerful, emotional track, if hardly their standard. I recommend their masterpiece, Iowa, but there is a whole catalog of great songs. Incidentally, if you'd like to hear more like this, Blue October did some amazing, heart wrenching music, Hate Me is so similar.
Slipknot, Tool, and Disturbed...probably my 3 favorite bands. A couple more Slipknot songs I think you'll love (although they're very different) are Vermillion Part 2 and Unsainted. Give them a listen please. I enjoy your reactions so want to see how you feel about these.
Back in 2011-2012, I had a boyfriend I had to let go because he was struggling with addiction, and I couldn't help him. He sent me this song. A month later, he overdosed on methadone he'd gotten from a friend, trying to get clean so we could be together. This song will never not be a gut punch. Every once in a while, I listen to it to remember that someone was willing to risk dying to be with me, and I had an obligation to that sacrifice to never let a moment of life go to waste.
I’m sure the comment is in here somewhere but you really must listen to the acoustic “stripped down” version. It truly portrays the hurt and sadness and just brings this song and emotion to new heights.
Slipknot is the processing and space holding for a massive collective pain. It’s actually extremely sweet and empathetic if you think about it. It all clicks when you get into the lyrics
Looked back, noticed ya seen Audioslave and Chris Cornell, but have you heard Soundgarden? Try something a bit offscale but amazing first like "Fell on Black Days" or "Tighter & Tighter" (personal favorites on mine is "Applebite" and "Slaves and Bulldozers")
we are the pulse of the maggots! there is a solid reason we have been captured by slipknot - its not about 'violent' music, rebellion, or being loud.... from day one we understood there was something more in this band. it spoke to us, and we grew as men, in ways the tv said we never could. cheers lads!
If a style of music doesn't click is not a bad thing. We all have our own unique tastes in music movies everything. Glad you went out of your comfort zone and tried it out!
Corey has a phenomenal voice. There’s some amazing covers he’s done for classic songs that I sometimes like better than the originals. Major talent, he’s up there with Maynard for me.
The video to this song is heart breaking. The part where he is crying is real because he was going through such a painful breakup and when he started crying during filming they decided to keep rolling
The live version of this filmed in London is something else all together... Also, Corey`s other band Stone Sour have done some really great tracks..."Hesitate" (Both album and acoustic versions are amazing) and "Tired" are my personal favorites...
This song, song #3 by stone sour and one less heart to break by patent pending, got me through my time in a mental hospital. I genuinely believe I would still be in there if it weren't for songs like this
This song specifically is different compared to most of Slipknot songs. That’s why I love it it’s so soothing and has a deep meaning wrapped in emotion so I’m not sure if you’ll grasp the band based on this song because it isn’t a heavy feel in the sense of all the drums and all booming but it’s still amazing.
Bro, this song is so much fucking deeper for massive Slipknot songs like me. This song is not an anthem for Paul Grey (Slipknot's bassist, founding member and main song writer for Slipknot. The song was not written with Paul in mind. But so many of the lyrics relate to Paul after his death and struggles. It was also Paul's favourite song and would often sing it in the studio when they were recording. This shit make me cry man. Especially now Joey is dead as well. I owe a lot of my life so Slipknot and Joey especially. (If it wasn't for Slipknot and, more importantly Joey I wouldn't have met my GF of over 20 years and the mother of my 2 children).
I like his Stone sour demos Voices again and my name is Allen. You can see in your face how you felf listening to this, l still Get goosebumps when he sings i never claimed to be a Saint, shiver's in the spine.🦔
Don't feel alone about Slipknot. I could not get into them until they released Volume 3. Duality really caught my attention. And Corey Taylor's songs on the Stone Sour recordings are phenomenal. His solo stuff is excellent also. And a bit closer to this style, unlike most Slipknot songs. Also see them in concert, they are excellent.
I loved your explanation of taste in the beginning. I’m a metal head classic rocker at the end of the day but that don’t mean I can’t appreciate other genres might not be my go to but I can understand why folks like it. You said it better got a sub from me brother keep on keeping on!
Anybody noticed Polo talks and stops the songs twice as much (or more) since he stopped smoking pot? 🤔
I was zooted during this one. I relapsed. It makes recording easier because I hate being on camera and talking about people's art.

Absolutely it's perfectly imperfect

I hate that I get it
“It took the death of hope to let you go” …. Fuck man, I hate that line but love it.
"It took the death of hope to let you go" will always struck me like a freight train
More like, "If you still care don't ever let me know. "
"Angels lie to keep control" is my favorite line.

This song is amazingly powerful. And Corey's voice is one of the best voices ever in my opinion ❤
Goosebumps every time ! If you want a similar haunting one from them try Vermillion pt 2
I love Slipknot, I've seen them in concert 3 times. This is one of my favorite song of theirs.
I saw them live, great live band, AMAZING that they are able to recreate the studio sound live.
Coreys solo of this song is so powerful! Worth a watch
All of the song commentaries out there Polo is my personal favorite. ❤️
You have such a great talent and emotionally attachment to rate music
we are the pulse of the maggots!
there is a solid reason we have been captured by slipknot - its not about 'violent' music, rebellion, or being loud.... from day one we understood there was something more in this band.
it spoke to us, and we grew as men, in ways the tv said we never could.
cheers lads!
If a style of music doesn't click is not a bad thing. We all have our own unique tastes in music movies everything. Glad you went out of your comfort zone and tried it out!
this one always hurts my heart. this song came out around the day my wife died. she loved slipknot
The live version hits so much more viscerally... you see his pain.
Every time I watch your videos, I get mesmerized by that thing in the back lol......great song tho glad u liked it.
Snuff hits hard and got me though a dark time. Although their song Circle and Vermillion pt2 are the songs that really clicked for me
I love the use of ‘tether’ when talking about that phenomenon when a band goes from good to my band. Ima steal that henceforth
I'm in the happiest place of my life. Married my best friend and have 2 children, but man..when this song comes on it chokes me up.
The live version of this filmed in London is something else all together...
Also, Corey`s other band Stone Sour have done some really great tracks..."Hesitate" (Both album and acoustic versions are amazing) and "Tired" are my personal favorites...
1st time on this reaction. Thank you for this great reaction!! 🤣👍👍
This song, song #3 by stone sour and one less heart to break by patent pending, got me through my time in a mental hospital. I genuinely believe I would still be in there if it weren't for songs like this
I love the little speech he gave in the beginning about how a slipknot track hadn't really reached him yet....
This song is a dark, powerful, and beautiful gateway into slipknot
the single tear rolls everytime you hear it..........thanks fo rthe vid.
I only wish you weren't my friend
Then I could hurt you in the end
This always hits home for me.
I like his Stone sour demos Voices again and my name is Allen.
You can see in your face how you felf listening to this, l still
Get goosebumps when he sings i never claimed to be a Saint, shiver's in the spine.🦔
I have herd this song a million times and every time the hair stands up on my arms 🌴👍👍😎🌴
CMFT cool too much to explore ,love your comment so true
I loved your explanation of taste in the beginning. I’m a metal head classic rocker at the end of the day but that don’t mean I can’t appreciate other genres might not be my go to but I can understand why folks like it. You said it better got a sub from me brother keep on keeping on!
