I don't think anyone is actually prepared for the first time hearing and seeing Slipknot. It is something you can't explain then it creeps into your soul, then you find yourself in a mosh pit acting like a crazy person in a cult. It's a process lol.

metal concert crowds are honestly the best and safest of any genre i’ve been to. everyone watches out for each other and helps when you need it. we’re a family and generally act like it 😊 slipknot is one of the nicest crowds i’ve ever been in out of a ton of metal shows. seeing them again next year at this same festival, actually.

This is honestly so true. I've been to many metal shows and in a ton of mosh pits and the only time I was ever injured was when I took a boyfriend to Killswitch Engage. He had never been in a pit before and I explained to him that the goal wasn't to hurt others the way it looks, just let loose and have fun. Immediately when we went in, he elbowed me right in the throat. Those around us were like WTF and got him and I both out safely. Needless to say, he's an ex for a reason. Also, the lead singer of KE at the time was a POC, Howard Jones

So true, I tell people all the time want to go make some friends, go to a metal show alone. I had a friend that used to run a small live music venue that catered to all genres. He would say give me a metal crown any day of the week, nicest people. Every time they had a big country music crowd: fights and rude people.

Metal and Rock crowds are the best! Many people are wasted (not all), but the last thing the very vast majority of people that go to a Rock or Metal concert/festival want, is to start any kind of trouble instead of just having a good time! XD

These are good people who know how to have fun and they love introducing people to the lifestyle. I highly recommend it.

A live Slipknot show in 2001 is what actually got me into metal. I grew up as a 90s hip-hop kid in upstate NY. In college, I asked a friend of mine what he wanted for his birthday. He asked me to pick up a ticket to a concert with him and humor him.

It's not all like you see in this video, that's literally just down the front. There's another 80-100K people behind them further back and to the sides just enjoying the show and the music without getting into the moshing. I'm too old for that stuff too.
Download Festival is one of the safest gigs you could ever go to. I've been 16 times and I don't regret a single one. It's the highlight of my summer. I've met dozens of great people there from all over the country who I'm still friends with. We don't see each other all year but the moment we get into those fields we're all camping together again and it's like no time has passed.
I don't know if you have an equivalent in the US, but if you do you should definitely try it at least once. Most people who go to Download once end up going back every year :)

Once I dug a little deeper I really grew to appreciate them; their concerts are massive shows, their lyrics are poetic in a wide variety of ways, and their music videos are cinematic. Suggestion for another crowd-crazy concert by a different band: Metallica, live in Seattle, 1989 (you might want the lyrics for it).

Same. I was a metaller back in the 90s but I never had much interest in Slipknot until I saw them live at Download in 2005, for my first full weekend festival experience, and I wouldn't skip them now. Seen them multiple times at DL and looking forward to next summer when I get to see them play again :)

I've been seeing Slipknot for 22 years and their shows never disappoint so many emotions run through my body like I'm happy in the moment singing and everything mad venting out my frustrations that I've been holding onto for the year and at some points during the show I start crying because the lyrics gets to me but at the end of the night I feel relieved and refreshed ready to take on the year until they come back through

I can’t speak for England shows, but I went and saw them in ‘21 in Iowa at my first and last festival, and then this year in Kansas City. There are a lot of black metal heads at all those shows I’ve been to. I’m 50 now. The festival was great and sucked all at once. I’m not made for standing for 11 hours anymore. Kansas City was awesome because it was in an amphitheater and it had seats. When we “got down” there, I just sat on the back of the seat. My knees wouldn’t allow me to get down for real.

The metal community is the most tolerant and accepting people. If you love the music, thats all that matters. We/they dont give a rip about skin color or any dumb shit, we just want to enjoy the tunes. Violent music is our outlet for anger and violence. Its our therapy and we have a place to channel that energy. Go to a metal show, youll be openly accepted.

2:05 This is exactly the type of concert that is incredibly safe and everyone there is nothing but caring and lovely people.
There's so many metal artists that will stop the song mid song and kick people out of the concert for being rude to each other, then start the song over again and also play for longer. These types of people are the most caring and whole-hearted dudes you will find ever.

They are indeed awesome live! First time back in May'15 I was about a month shy of turning 46 and that was the best of the four so far. In a sea of some 30k -40k people at a festival, in the first 1/4 of the crowd from the stage. Absolutely unbelievable energy in that crowd, especially considering they were the headliner after two days of 12hr ea of hard rock and metal. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we lost out on seeing them with pit tix at nearby amphitheater. Ahhh well, they'll come around again and I will see them more times! Looks like they'll be headlining some festivals this summer in the US and EUR.
