He wrote this song about his girl that left him at a very dark time... His best friend and bandmate helped him finish the song. That bandmate then died of a drug overdose. So every time he sings this song he not only remembers the pain from her but he looks up to the heavens in remembrance of him and his loss.
@@brintitan well, he also said the female no longer hurts and he doesn't think of her when he sings it anymore. He thinks of his friend/bandmate, hence the looking upward in the performance.
God... I've seen this performance so many times and it still gives me chills. Corey has a truly unique voice and some of these lyrics just go straight for the heart strings.
It's because of Paul his former bandmate RIP that he gets emotional. Paul said he should put this song on the record but Corey wasn't sure. Yes the song is literally about a woman he used to love but it has deeper emotion for Corey
I believe this song was made for a woman that Corey had loved in the past, a relationship that didn't end well, but i know it was someone who helped Corey through a rough patch in his life and he thought they felt the same way but it was not to be. He also said it was something that he needed to hear as it helped give him the push he needed to figure himself out.
This is true at the time it was written. But this shows with corey where he play snuff, it is 100% tribute towards Paul Gray (close friend and ex bassist for slipknot) who died. And this song would not be possible without Paul. Atleast with slipknot. THis is also why he cracks up during this song (cuz of Paul). There is another live version of this song, that was like closer to when Paul died, and he broke down during this song. it was really tough to watch. But he still did amazing with vocals. But yes, these lyrics are about a girl lol. just wanted to add info and also im bored at work.
So this was a song he wrote about a relationship he had with a woman that he had very deep feelings for and she helped him through a lot of hardships. However, in the end, she didn't reciprocate his strong feelings. He has said it's a very dark song about being in a place where your back is against the floor and it's not even CAN you pick yourself back up, but do you even WANT to? Pretty heavy place to be. When he brought this song to his band, Slipknot (a metal band who are known for a much more hard core, high energy sound) they weren't really feeling it at first. But the then bass player, Paul Grey, really liked it and kind of rallied for it to be on the album and got everyone else into it. They released it on their 2009 album: All Hope Is Gone and of course, it was a huge hit! Unfortunately, Paul passed away the following year due to an overdose. It hit the whole band really hard. So now when Corey sings this song, it's in memory and tribute to Paul because of the love he had for it and it was one of the last songs they worked on together.
Taylor was found, by VVN Music, to possess the second-highest vocal range of any known singer in popular music with a range of 5 and a half octaves. He was beaten only by Mike Patton (6 octaves). His voice is very unique as is his talent.
You can find the entire concert live on youtube. It will be 2 hrs well spent. Its so good and ive not seen an audience that harmonizes with an artist like that.
Hesitate, is a great one. Please do it next. Corey is Great. His books are good too. This and Snuff hit hard. My wife of 16 years left me for another guy. To everything from me.
every time I hear this song it makes me cry and I'm a 30 yr old man. The reason why it makes me cry is because I can hear my demo singing it. I love my demon and my demon knows I love her. And yet I still cry for her.
At 5.27 (in your clip) he sings "Angels like (to) keep control". In that line he watches the sky above him for just a slight second. That just breaks your hart when you notice it.
Corey is the singer from Slipknot. The Bass player and Coreys good friend from Slipknot died not long before this, RIP Paul Gray. It's really about his ex wife. Corey is probably my favourite singer, he has a great singing voice as well as rough/screaming and can rap. Ivan Moody from Five Finger Death Punch is probably my no.2. Have you done Wrong side of Heaven?
Soooo tragically I lost one of my best buddies I grew up with last year. I was always country music and he was metal. He joined the military and had to move away and we didn’t see each other for a while but while he was gone I started listening to more rock and metal. This is a song he showed me a long time ago and I never really liked it much. After he passed away I sat down and really listened to it and now I love it and rock out to it all the time for him knowing he’s with me laughing at me singing every lyric. Rest easy brotha until we meet again. 🤘🏼
Corey Taylor is the GOAT and this is one of my favorite performances ever 🖤 For the complete opposite from him/them you should check out Slipknot - Spit It Out live at Download Festival 2009. The insanity abounds lol ❤️🔥 I’ve been listening to them for like over 20 years now. We all have the style we prefer from them, but their self-titled first album in 1999, Iowa in 2001, and then Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses in 2004 are my favorites. And completely different in sound. And All Hope Is Gone lol they have tons of great music 🖤
Hi... Try some..,, simmilar,, 🤔.. From Germany.. The singer was a homeless, and it's about his life.. :"heute nicht song,, TeX" (acoustic in under ground Station.. And. :"Slime - heute nicht, live,, Wacken" (with his Band...).. Enjoy another language😉
0:34 maggots do respect it. be sure they do. that's why we are maggots and corey is the most humble guy on earth. and who does not respect a person's private life is not a maggot and did not understand anything.
One of my absolute favorites! The studio recording is amazing but this particular performance sounds like a studio performance with the visuals to match and makes it stronger. Great performance and Corey Taylor has a masterful pen!
You should react to Ren "HI Ren"...if you liked this...that will blow your mind and it's a super important message about mental health....first time I heard it it made me cry...I still tear up every so often
Thank you for reacting to my request. You need to do a Patron or something like it if. Hope you enjoyed this performance. Corey is the lead singer of Slipknot, and he's not this soft often. But this song is one of the most powerful songs ever written.
My freshman year in college, I was seventeen and quite impressionable when I met my first ever philosophy prof...he would take a group of students out to dinner a couple times a month and one evening, we got into a discussion about the very thing you mentioned here, vulnerability in art. I was suggesting how brave I thought Burroughs had been to write the book "Junkie", and he said that you have to always remember that exposing vulnerability in art is generally a narcissistic exercise...it's a play for sympathy, for support, through (sometimes) excellent execution of one's talent. It's an attention grab, and that's perfectly okay, as long as the artist is confident enough to own the reality.
What a great song. I was fortunate enough to see Slipknot perform it live in 2022. It’s been many many years since this song has been on their set list.
Depending on mood its this and Bother that he sings with the band Stone sour and Duality that he sings with the band Slipknot rotates my 1,2 and 3 favorite songs of all time
I appreciate your props to the musicians out there who bare their souls to the world through their music. But I must say, many of us vocalists write & perform those personal, difficult & painful songs as therapy for ourselves. Of course we hope others can relate, and draw some connection or healing for themselves as well, yet we’re not conscious of the fans or how a song will be received when written.
Britt please consider reacting to slipknot snuff, Corey Taylor is the best person to show you the power of rock and metal. Corey sings for slipknot and Stone Sour, as well as his self-titled CMFT BAND. Once you see his face, it’s impossible not to love slipknot you owe it to your self to give it a shot.😊😊😊
Pushing love away? ... Love is what destroyed him. Love can destroy anyone in ways that cant be explained or imagined. Unless you still have pieces missing. Pieces that you never get back as you watch her leave.
So I've been waiting for it for a while... but this seems like a great intro into some METAL MUSIC reviews for the lovely Britt. If this gets seen and is worth checking out, my current favorite which features two absolute Queens of the genre, peep out Nita Strauss Ft. Alissa White-Gluz: The Wolf You Feed

This comment should be top🖤🍻

Paul Grey
Paul Gray
I’m from Iowa and my nephews wife grew up across the street from Joey and knew them all as kids true story
Corey is a GOD. The man fronts both Slipknot and Stone Sour.
And now, his own solo stuff as well
As well as amazing song with the "Sound City Players" From can to cant!
And many collaborations with people from other bands and different genre's, the guy does everything.
first time i heard sound city on the radio i was wait what the hell thats corey lol..
Lemmy is god
God... I've seen this performance so many times and it still gives me chills. Corey has a truly unique voice and some of these lyrics just go straight for the heart strings.
every time. in ten years you will say the same thing about this
He's the lead singer of slipknot, It would be awesome if you reacted to them!
Even more stone sour would be ok
@@nickschnider9191 this is a slipknot track tho
@@crayzeewhorse lol I didn't even consider that. I was just thinking of Corey's singing. My bad
@Nick Schnider 😅 tbf it does sound more of a SS track lol
One of my favorite songs of all time. Seeing Corey without Slipknot mask belting a song with possibly the deepest lyrics I've ever heard.
Can’t wait to see her face when she reacts to his band Slipknot
Now it's time for some SLIPKNOT ✌️✌️✌️ the fans will be here for it! Massive rabbit hole for you to dive into
Corey has actually broken down mid-performance while playing this live. He's baring his soul with this one.
It's because of Paul his former bandmate RIP that he gets emotional. Paul said he should put this song on the record but Corey wasn't sure.
Yes the song is literally about a woman he used to love but it has deeper emotion for Corey
To me, this song is one of the best "break up" /failed relationship songs ever written. Just love the lyrics and obviously Corey sings amazingly.
Stone Sour´s Bother is a great song with similar vibes as this one. That´s also Corey Taylor in the lead.
"If you still care, don't ever let me know" gets me every time!
I believe this song was made for a woman that Corey had loved in the past, a relationship that didn't end well, but i know it was someone who helped Corey through a rough patch in his life and he thought they felt the same way but it was not to be. This has to be the 500th time I’ve watched that live video and I still get emotional listening to it.

after paul died which is his band mate in slipknot this song just hurts even more. Love this song, corey taylor and Slipknot
I love seeing people reacting to this song and changing their faces, really getting emotional with this work of art
I think this song is so touching, and Corey's vocal talents are just perfect for whatever he happens to put to music.

It’s so cool to see Corey’s progression. From Stone Sour and Slipknot to being a solo artists. The fans show him the love and sing to help him along.
Most people haven't heard the original Stone Sour, but only the Stone Sour 2.0 that haven't made anything new en several years.
I have a huge emotional attachment to this song, really glad you watched it
The crowd showing love by singing is beautiful. Another amazing example of that is Green Day 2017 at Hyde Park. Absolutely nothing but love

I've never heard this before. Wow!
You should listen to his cover of Wicked Game. It's so incredibly well done. The band is called Stone Sour
You have a beautiful outlook on why artists do what they do
I always listen to peoples reaction on this one its one of my favorites and it became my first tattoo on my chest it means alot
Great Perspective Beautiful Woman 😪😎
You really need to check out his other bands Slipknot and Stone Sour he is very talented. This song always hits home for me.
Have you reacted to Pearl Jam - black, the live unplugged version? If not, I highly recommend it!
If that's from London 2015? I was there. When corey played this it was absolutely heartbreaking..you could feel his hurt
Corey Taylor actually made a cameo in the Falling In Reverese song Drugs. Corey is also the lead singer in Slipknot and Stone Sour
I feel really old that this is a 'react' video ... but Corey has one of my favorite voices. I love him.
Omg! This was so awesome! Such raw emotion
its been said by many of the bandmates who wrote the msuical part of this song that this was "corys masterpiece" he wrote the lyrics

At 4:50 when Corey screams a fire truck started blaring it’s sirens outside my house, perfect timing
You're s legend and do is corey taylor ❤

The Baltimore version, he actually breaks down during the performance.
I jus found your channel and looking thru what kind of videos you react to.. This is one of my favorite songs by Slipknot, written by Corey.
master piece
Watch his live acoustic doing Bother where he pauses and the crowd does his adlib like every songwriter/singers dream
The hard nipples bit has to be an all time great live music moment

Another nice song. Believe it or not, this is a Slipknot song. For a heavy band, this is probably their heaviest song lyrically.
Big fan of your reacts, you're very cool 😎
He made an amazing song with some other great artist like Dave Grohl from Foo Fighter. It's called Sound City From Can to Can't
Cory Taylor was on the song with falling in reverse the song drugs he is the one that comes in right before Ronnie kills himself with a chainsaw
Check out his version of Purple Rain.
one of the few songs that never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
Pushing love away? ... Love is what destroyed him. Love can destroy anyone in ways that cant be explained or imagined. Unless you still have pieces missing. Pieces that you never get back as you watch her leave.
A nice real reaction. Some other bands you might want to add to the list "Type O Negative" um maybe "bloodywood"
RIP Joey and Paul
His live of Home is also insane. Mostly piano
If you enjoy this, I'd recommend God Went North by Nothing More and Ghost by Badflower. Both very emotional songs.

Check him out doing purple rain. Such power and raw emotion
This was one of the last songs he wrote with Paul
Indeed, that is really why it takes a toll on him to perform it
If you haven't already check out wrong side of heaven by five finger death punch.
You should hear his other band, SLIPKNOT, and STONE SOUR
This is the lead singer from slipknot so if he says something will be hard to get through you know he means it
