Tears are appropriate for this masterpiece. His last song and while it's a cover it is one of his greatest works. It calls to your soul, he knew it was his last song and you feel it

When Trent Reznor wrote and and performed it with NIN, it was a guy reflecting on how his heroin addiction messed his life up. When Mr Cash covered it, it was an old man reflecting on his life as he waited to die.. Trent heard Mr Cash's version and said it was his now.

I saw this video on the Country Music Channel when it was first televised. It hit me very hard at the time. Now in my mid seventies, I find myself reflecting in a deeper manner. So much of my life is behind me now. So many people have gone away.More of my "authentic self" continues to reveal itself to me as I accept it more and more.

Hi Karen! A little back history...the album containing Hurt by Johnny Cash was released Nov. 5th 2002. June Carter Cash..Johnnys wife of 35 years passed away on May 15th 2003. She is featured in this video with her pretty long hair standing on the stairs watching her husband she loved so dearly do this song. She was an amazing singer herself. And so sweet! Johnny died of a broken heart on Sept. 12th 2003..just 4 months after his wife June. The picture on the wall in the beginning is Johnnys mom. Would love to see you back with your guy Cliff doing reactions and hearing your opinions. Take care of yourself and Cliff! We love his channel here! Hugs! Suzy from Michigan

His wife June Carter was the reason he turned his life around decades ago.
In this song was sung shortly before her passing.
He didn't last more than a few months after that.
Find it interesting he was always listening for new music until the end.

No doubt the comment section will soon fill up with all the facts and figures about this powerful cover, but the one that gets me is that his daughter Roseanne apparently said to him that it sounded like he was saying goodbye - his simple reply was: ''I am''.

Mum told me that she used to play Johnny Cash to me as a baby cos I NEVER slept, LOL, but as soon as I heard him, Mum said I just became 'still' & eventually fell asleep. Therefore, 'The Man In Black' saved my Mum's sanity & gave ME a huge appreciation for his work. 'Hurt' will always remain one of my favourite songs from Mr Cash - may he R.I.P.🖤

I'm older than Johnny was when he passed away, and I can tell you that the idea of starting all over again is fairly common, but when you consider it, there's not much hope of "fixing" things. Most of us, I think, will "keep" ourselves, just as Erin said. Hope I got the spelling right. It's my niece's name, and that's how she spells it. For my part, she's a great addition to your channel. Thanks for the double reaction, and God bless you both! edit: Sorry about that Karen, I thought you said Erin. See, I told you I'm old!!

This song has a very special place in my heart for very fucked up reasons. I had a one night stand with an older lady, and then in the morning in my room we just happen to turn on the tv and this music video starts playing. Literally the second I turn it on. Never seen it before, and I was just blown away. Even in the moment, I wondered if it had some grander significance, but in my mind I was only considering that I might make this poor lady hurt. I went on to have a 14 year relationship with her, complete with 2 kids, where she abused and hurt me in ways I can't talk about and you couldn't even imagine. Even she would agree she was damaged and destructively mentally ill and totally crushed the life out of me. But it is just so eery for me, that this song played after I met her, like a warning from god, who I don't believe in...

I'm a 50'ish male, and I actually cried the first three times I saw this video! It starts with a young virile man, a husband with a beautiful wife, all the success of the early years! He finds his old childhood home in there, and then they both get old, and still loved each other! And of course, June died before the video was released, and Johnny was left alone with his memories of her for a short time. until he followed her. I still feel like both crying and cheering for a life well lived together!

I never get tired of seeing people discover new music and honestly share their feelings. You two need to do more reactions like this together. Cliff, you need to bring Karen back (a lot) and show her the other side of Johnny Cash ... his younger playful side. A Boy Named Sue is the obvious next place to go. The song is a riot. It's one of those songs that a younger Johnny would make you smile with through his telling of the story.

Good reaction. Just hang onto each other. This video shows what's important in the end. It's the thoughts of a man at the end of his life. The NIN Trent Reznor version, which was the original, was of a younger person fighting addiction and figuring out your place in life. Much love to you guys!

  • @mlong1958
    @mlong1958 День назад

Trent Reznor, the author from Nine Inch Nails, said that when he first heard this, it felt like someone else kissed his girlfriend. Later, he said that it wasn't his song anymore; that he just carried it for Johnny for a while. His wife, June Carter Cash, on the stairs, passed away not long after this was released. Johnny passed away not long after her. To see a pretty good telling of their life, watch Walk The Line with Juaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I grew up listening to Johnny and this song tears me up every time I hear it. Other songs to listen to by Johnny are Man In Black, The Man Comes Around, which kind of bookend his greatest songs that he wrote himself. Ring of Fire was written by his wife. A favorite of my is his version of the Wabash Cannonball. The picture on the wall was his mother.

The other woman that was live on camera was June Carter, Johnny’s wife. That little house he was walking around in the film clip was the house he grew up in … ‘dirt poor’, as they say.

Johnny died broke. This song wasn't released yet. An American icon totally dead broke. When they went out to film this video, it was supposed to be him going to several places from his youth and waking around reacting to them. When they came to the cash museum, it had been closed for like 5 years or something. It had been foreclosed on. The night before it was foreclosed, Johnny had a big feast there for his crew and family. When they were done eating they simply left the table and food as it was. Now, when they got here, the guy filming decided to break in to the place... actually broke in.. and all the food was just as they left it... no mold or anything... crazy.. but they decided to film the entire video here, as Johnny was completely emotional... June was afraid he was going to pass out from the sadness he was experiencing.. but he pushed on, wanting it to be done. Great reaction.

Hurt” is a poignant and deeply moving song that was originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails in 1995 but gained even more popularity when Johnny Cash covered it in 2002. Written by Trent Reznor, the mastermind behind Nine Inch Nails, the song explores themes of pain, regret, and loss. However, Cash’s rendition added a layer of depth and vulnerability that resonated with listeners on a profound level.
Known to have lived a life full of dangers and chemical abuse, Johnny Cash died in 2003, seven months after the release of his music video for ‘Hurt.’ The music video that has been nominated for an MTV award 7 times has a bit of a story when we consider the life Johnny Cash led for 71 years.😔
Valerie June Carter Cash (June 23, 1929 - May 15, 2003[1]) was an American country singer and songwriter. A five-time Grammy award-winner, she was a member of the Carter Family and the second wife of singer Johnny Cash. Prior to her marriage to Cash, she was known as June Carter and continued to be credited as such even after her marriage (as well as on songwriting credits predating it). She played guitar, banjo, harmonica, and autoharp, and acted in several films and television shows. Carter Cash was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2009. She was in this video and was Johnny’s second wife and was with him in this video. ☺️

Johnny's daughter saw this video shortly before he moved on to the next realm. She was emotional about it & told him "it sounds like you're saying goodbye".
    He replied "i am".

Johnny Cash is the greatest self made musician the world has ever seen. Just a man and his guitar.

June died not long after this video was filmed from complications from what was supposed to be routine heart valve surgery. Johnny would be gone about 4 months later. His death certificate sites complications from diabetes as the cause of death, but I think he just decided he didn't want to be here any more without June. They had been through so much together, and she stood by him through the worst of times.
