    Great review Barry! The new Mige motors will be coming out with the 22Bit BISS-C Encoders which do 4.2 mil cpr resolution compared to the SinCos Encoders 2.1 mil cpr resolution. The only reason to try and hunt down any of the remaining SinCos Encoders is for the users that have the older versions of the Mige motor as it doesn't support the new 22Bit BISS-C Encoders. Anyone buying after a new OSW Mige setup will get the new 4.2 mil cpr resolution Encoders :)

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      Yes, but it is my understanding that current FW will support 21bit but not 22 bit yet. So, still 2.1 mil CPR. Won't be long before that changes I'm sure.

  • @manashttu

    Always enjoy your reviews, Barry. It really adds to the appreciation for the engineering and ingenuity that go into our tools . . . I mean . . toys. I have the large Mige Simucube system with the 10,000 encoder, and have been very happy with the refinement that has come with every release of the Simucube firmware.
    In your FFB wheel reviews, have you considered incorporating Automobilista into the testing regimen alongside iRacing? I know it lacks some of the glitz of Assetto Corsa and PC2, but in my two decades of sim racing, I have found AMS to have the most convincing driving dynamics and richest FFB of any sim I've tried. It truly shows off the full range of subtlety to power of a FFB system. And for a DD wheel, it takes some minimal tweaking to the RealFeel settings to dial in a convincing and informative experience that is consistent among the huge variety of cars that come with and are available for AMS. For my money, a lap around Suzuka in AMS' Formula V10 is as good as it gets.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      I will have to give Automobilista another go. Had a problem with the usb port limitation the game had at the time I tried it before. Don't know if Neils and the guys have added more usb port capability. I need a lot of usb ports for motion and such.

    Great review as always, but I was a bit saddened to see that you didn't test drive the wheel in rfactor2. rf2 has, arguably, the best force feedback and tyre model simulation in the industry, so it would be nice to see how the osw wheel fared in that

    Barry, Just for info, the shaft and the collar assembly should be degreased really good before assembly because they are usually pretty slippery with oil. Also, the four cap bolts that are on the collar assembly when shipped are not used but there should have been four button head allen bolts that are used instead, they are shallower than the cap head allen bolts. The black spacer will then be flush.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      Yes, I had to clean the shaft and collar assembly. I forgot to mention the 4 button head screws that can be substituted for the socket head cap bolts are included in the hardware package.

    Hi, great review as always. Looking forward to your Fanatec DD reviews.
    The reason you don't like Assetto Corsa FFB may be related to your settings. I see you have some effects turned on and they are what we call canned effects. Fake basically. Kunos felt obligated to add them because people with FFB wheels were complaining about not having a lot of FFB so they added these extra effects. If you turn them off, you'll still get all those effects but real ones not generated or amped out of blue. You should give it a try I thought.

    That clamp was really close to the edge of the table. I was kinda expecting it to become loose. I don't know why he did not put the clamp deeper into the desk so you'd get more leverage out of it. Maybe the table has shelves that doesn't allow it to bite deeper.

    A lot of the time with powder coating you use a steel wire to have it up on a rack like I do in a Massive oven (you can fit a car chassis in there) and if you don’t have the steel wire in or on properly the powder coating can come away and while in the baking process it can chip off easy, we Tend to shot blast it and redo the powder coating if this happens

  • @realmcerono
    @realmcerono 6 лет назад +1

    I think the reconstruction filter in the simucube software is more responsible for the smoothness than the sincos encoder. try it in iracing and you will agree ;-)

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад +1

      Could be, I did have it set to 5 in iRacing, but also tried it at other settings. I want to try the new Biss-C once I can get my hands on one. Compare it to the SinCos and with the Filter at different levels and in the off state.

    • @realmcerono
      @realmcerono 6 лет назад

      Sim Racing Garage Tero and Mika from GD say 5 is the optimized standard value for iRacing. In AC you could deactivate it. ACs FFB is very smooth out of the box. But nevermind, another awesome review Barry, keep'em coming!

    • @jlopez142
      @jlopez142 6 лет назад

      I agree. When I upgraded to the new FW the recon. filter made it so smooth. Soon after the upgraded to a 3600 line SinCos encoder and it did make it better but not a huge difference. Still worth it if you have the resources.

    Hi Berry, I’m very interested in purchasing a Direct Drive Servo. I’ve watched a lot of your reviews and I believe I speak for every one when I say that I really appreciate what your doing for us Sim racers. I would love to buy a Bodner but can’t seem to justify that much money for a servo to my wife.. lol.. However if I could please be blessed with your guidance on configuring a Kollmorgan with a OSW setup I would be great full.. I’m not 100% sure where to start. After going to the Kollmorgan web page I feel like I’m reading a different language with all the specs, I realize I still need other components besides just the motor.. again I really hope you can help, thank you

  • @chevyracer5091
    @chevyracer5091 6 лет назад +1

    Should of flip the motor up on it encoder by the corner of the table. Then put motor mount on top of motor would of been safer. Just trying to help.

    • @jlopez142

      I was thinking the same thing but that’s a lot of weight to balance on a small area of the servo. The risk of it tipping over would be greater because that mounting plate it so heavy and long.

    Great videos. May you help me please? I am in doubt to get a dd osw system from these two brands: Simtech racing or Simbay? Please advise which brand

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад

      I don't have any experience with Simtech's Simforce OSW system. Looks to be based, like others, on the tried and proven SimuCube/IONI system. Not enough details as far as if it is the HC IONI or not. And the power supply is not listed. If it were me, I would buy from Sim Racing Bay or Augury. With the Augury getting the nod because of the very nice looking controller box.

  • @benkayuk

    The big question Barry. This (I.e, the latest version with Biss-C) or Bodnar Simsteering 2? Would be really keen to get your opinion

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      Very close between the two. I still prefer the Kollmorgen to the Mige. But that's just me.

  • @DamianBadalamenti
    @DamianBadalamenti 6 лет назад

    So it looks like mige has discontinued the sincos encoder, but will be offering an even better Biss-C encoder. Tho it sounds like it might require some modifications to work on earlier model small/large Mige servos. OSW development has moved at lightning speed this past year. But I think this will be the final stage, as you can't get much better than a biss encoder.
    Berry you have to try simcube with a akm53/54 servo fitted with a biss encoder and compare to it to the bodner.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад +7

      I will be comparing the Biss-C to the SinCos once I can get the proper cable in. Would like to try the AKM's with the SimCube. Need to get the cables made though. So much I want to do, never enough time in the day it seems.

    • @egamundoy
      @egamundoy 3 года назад

      No, this is a Small Mige. He said a Kollmorgen is smoother but the new encoder on the Mige is similar to it. The Bodnar is a Lenze Motor. Which is in between the Mige and Kollmorgen motors

    Hi Berry, Great in-depth review and compassion to your personal setup. I was wondering why you weren't using your D-Box 4400i Motion Simulator?

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад +2

      When I'm testing for FFB cues and detail, I turn all motion off. That way I can concentrate on the task at hand. Not to say that I did that the whole time I was testing. I also wanted to feel how the FFB from the wheel complemented the motion systems cues. But that really isn't relevant to someone thinking of buying an OSW or other FFB wheel system. As most won't have a motion rig I think.

  • @daverich2499
    @daverich2499 6 лет назад +1

    It's a 10nm motor that does 20nm peak according to Mige, in other words, it can't do 20nm constantly but in sim racing you would never ever do that anyway. Kind of like speakers that can do 100w peak max but are 50w. 20nm short bursts are all you will need. I have this exact kit but with the smaller psu and never have it above 50% in game, 100% in software but 50 in game max.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      Yes, this motor has more than enough burst torque I think. I can feel the difference between this Mige and the AKM52G when you crash or take a hard hit from something.

      Actually, I only have the original Mige encoder it came with and not the upgraded one , and it's still really great, but I have nothing else direct drive to compare it too so i might be even more impressed if I got the upgraded encoder! I went from a Logitech g29 to this and was blown away.

    • @jlopez142
      @jlopez142 6 лет назад +1

      Paul Banks, the encoder helps but I found that the new firmware was a big improvement over MMOS that was used before. The encoder provides an even smoother experience. I run the same servo with a different SinCos encoder; I used to have the standard 40K CPR encoder before.

  • @AndyGarton
    @AndyGarton 6 лет назад

    The spacer looks like a problem to me - if you need it to clear the bolts (which you didn't of course because of your additional hub spacer, the long silver part), it needs to clear them completely, not leave a couple of mils proud.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      You are right. That's why I showed it with the bolt heads a few mills proud of the spacers plane. If you want to direct mount you would have to add some washers or something to get it flushed up.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      I should have mentioned also that Tomo does includes 4 pan head bolts in the bolts bag. These have a low enough profile that the spacer will be clear them. So no interference with mounting a flat plate to the spacer.

      I did, twice. Asked for firmware links, anything written they would have to just set the device up, or just links to guides or forum posts. Not game setup, just device update&setup. Got a response back that the only line of setup assistance is through Skype which is cool. I'm tired when I get back home from work, and I love taking my time doing my hobbies experimenting, so I'm not comfortable with this. I did go over to SimRacingBay yesterday and found a whole Downloads section with manuals, firmware links, tools, so I think I'm good again. BUT if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear them!

    I have been running the SimRacingBay kit for almost a year now and still watched your entire video. The kit is worth every cent!
    BTW, considering this kit? Check out my channel for a cheap solution to get magnetic paddle shifters going (3D printer and assembly required)

    howdy
    youve got me thinking about a direct drive wheel. have you ever seen this cock pit.
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JJB6DWY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
    would it be stable enough for it?

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      I would not recommend it. Remember, even the small Mige weighs over 22lbs. And has a peak torque of 20NM. I think it would be a bit much for that single square tube they are using to support the wheel base.

    It keeps amazing me that people still make kits with those cumbersome adapters. 5$ piece of aluminium and bicycle tube lock for another 2$ does quick lock function and 0 possibility of slippage. It literally takes 5 seconds to put it on.
    All this excessive cost and mass here with tons of time to install - for what? Somebody should tell them about it...

      @@kochj0713 Ir you have ever adjusted the seat on your bike you have to open a clamp to move it up and down that same partis used in these qquick releases. They can go up to to 100 bucks for a couple of pieces of mteal.
