Nile Monitor's First Trip Outside This Year! | Asian Water Monitor's Stressful First Day

- We got lucky with a warm day here in North Carolina today and was able to get our Nile and Asian water monitors outdoors for awhile. We had a usually uneventful time with the nile monitor, this is the third or fourth season going outdoors. The Asian water monitor however, younger and on his first trip outdoors on the harness had a little less fun and still pretty freaked out by it all. We will continue to work with him though and fairly certain he'll enjoy it just as much as Niles.

I’d love to see the look on people’s faces when they see you walking monitors! We get funny enough looks when walking ferrets or our wolfdog!

Water monitors outside is so touchy As soon as the sun and the outdoors hits them all socializing goes out the window it seams I won’t even try it got to good of a relationship! Only pet that makes you bleed every time True dedication !
It takes em awhile to calm down for sure. I've got a vid somewhere of an adult Aubrey has that will literally sit in the same spot all day outside with dozens of people milling around and is super chill, gonna be working with both of these to get them the same way eventually

I wonder if a lot of her reaction was is in response to how much different things appear to them under uvb rays… I know tegus sometimes freak out when they go outside because under the uvb lighting even we look different to them. Whatever the case I have no doubt in my mind you’ll get her relaxed in no time!

Great enrichment and training video. This sort of experience for these animals are what make great companions.

It can, a lot of keepers do. I probably should on the little AWM, Niles isn't too bad anymore
@IntrepidExotics I have a aisin water monitor about 27 inches. Some days he cuts me up .other days he's as nice as can be .
