Evidence Matters With Keeping Exotics

  • To piggyback of the previous video, I wanted to respond to a comment that I think really ties this conversation together. Wherther you're raising crasted geckos, crocodile monitors or giant snakes there's a couple thing we will always have to manage; education and bad reptile laws. All of these things require us to have the most accurate, evidence-based information in order to help us best care for our animals and best help the community of breeders and keepers. We tie a lot of that together here.

I have watched Kevin's video this morning, agree with the points he has made. A united supportive front for breeding and keeping the animals we love is valuable. USARK is worth supporting to keep our animals from being banned. Those who pass the laws, most likely, have never interacted with the animals they ban. Meet the proposed legislation with facts as you said, Tim. Respect and civility can open a dialog with other people.

Just so you know I don't have any snakes or reptiles. I found all your channels from the Fish communities. I love watching interactions with all creatures great and small. I've raised and shown Pekingese for 50 years. I've had horses my whole life . I love my Fish and absolutely love the fish communities. So happy to be in this reptile community. What happened if Florida haunts me every day. Enjoy your content. ❤️🐾

Hello! I do miss the horses and the fish, I used to keep a lot of fresh and saltwater stuff, hoping to start back with some whenever we get moved

If we don’t support each other as keepers then how are we going to fight the laws to keep them. I’m always open to helping and learning.

Another great one, I'm glad you expounded on this point. I think part of it is just the current climate of things where people tie polarized views to their identity. I think another part is overcorrection on the self policing front. Most importantly I think videos like this along with time will bring more people back to the arena between the extremes of things to have thoughtful conversations. Definitely appreciate these videos talking about this topic. I'll have to go back and see if I can watch Kevin's live too. I missed it earlier

I live in Vermont and we have had a restricted and unrestricted list established. Burmese, retic, rock pythons are all restricted needing a permit, as well as a bunch of other animals. however teeny tiny house snakes and dart frogs aren’t listed on the unrestricted list, so we’d need permits for those as well. It’s ridiculous. We have to check because it changes periodically. I appreciate your take on things.

That is the stuff that bothers me - the incomplete whitelist. The whitelist can be the most positive-sounding restrictive tool a government can have for this purpose.

I wish more people understood how the Burmese python ban actually happened in Florida. It really was a destructive force of nature that caused it, not irresponsible keepers. Now I can't have a giant scale puppy in the place I now call home
