    Sorry for the extra comment, but I forgot to say that Tim, you have increased by confidence as a handler and keeper. I recently got into the hobby last year and to be honest, no one has helped me like you. You show such care and how to show it for your animals that it has given me hope even with my feistiest of snakes. Now I handle without the fear of being bitten because it's not as scary to me. You have helped me understand these wonderful animals in ways I was not aware of before, and I thank you.

    Love some Bob update! Such a great example of how far these animals can come. Man his head is so similar to a dumerils at a glance at least color wise, that blushing. Not So much up close 😆 regardless, he's gorgeous and has come so far. Very cool to see

    I have a wild caught gopher snake. I've had them for 9 years. They still hiss at me every time I hold them. They have never tried bite though, even when they were posturing for it.

    I gotta say about 2 weeks ago i got my first burmese python and your videos have been a godsend as there isnt alot of info on keeping them on youtube. I have a question i fed her a small rat a week ago and she had a little urate but no poop. How long does it usually take them to poop and does warm water soaks help them poop?

    • @josephfreems

      Also second question is how much condensation is okay on the inside of an enclosure, I'm using zilla jungle mix for the bedding but was thinking maybe it makes it too humid. Also when she hisses it kinda whistles do you think she could have stuck shed in her nose maybe I just don't wanna hurt her . Thank you so much

    • @IntrepidExotics
      @IntrepidExotics  Месяц назад

      Should take roughly a week for a bowel movement, maybe longer but if temps are good and she's hydrated it's typically not to worry. A lot of condensation can be bad, maybe offer a tad more ventilation if it's really dripping in there. As with most things it's in moderation, just little tweaks til ya get it right.

    I wanted your advice, I've had this new corn for 7 months now, 2.5 years old, never handled previously before his time with me, he doesn't settle outside the tank, can be alright one minute, but freak out briefly the next.
    He's started popping his cloaca lately, but I don't think he's musked yet, at least not on me.
    He has some days worse than others, sometimes defensive and terrible with hands coming near him, other times just not that bad and we have a good session.
    Never had this with any other snake, they're all docile and relaxed. Not sure if he's just never going to be 'a pet'?
    I don't hesitate with him, not scared of being bitten or stiff when handling, but I'm not bonding with him, just wondering if some snakes are just rack material more than pet material. I'm considering handing him off to a breeder after he's been bred just to give him freedom from being handled, he just doesn't seem to like it at all.

      Ahh, I have this discussion with friends sometimes. snakes will often have different personalities depending on the individual, then different species and families may have different traits among themselves too. I've found that colubrids, although they can be really calm and easy to handle, can often be really flighty more often than not. My opinion is that they don't have the same capacity for thought that a python does, for instance. Now I have friends that strongly disagree and they may be right, but put simply I think pythons-boas, larger snakes in general have more capacity to think through things than smaller colubrids which makes them a bit easier to bring around to a calm state whereas many smaller ones simply dont process the good experiences and develop trust the same way. It may be that you're doing everything right and he may just be resistant to trusting you. If it were me I wouldn't give up on it with the understanding that it could be a long road and that ya may never get him truly comfortable. I'm doing the same thing with a young milk snake right now, I'm seeing that there's some thought process going on with him but not nearly as much as there was when I was taming down my sri lankan python, for instance.

    • @thesnowroach
      @thesnowroach Месяц назад

      @@IntrepidExotics Thanks for your thoughts, yeah I'd considered as much in terms of differences in personality, and I do think you're right as regards him not letting go and trusting, but in terms of letting him wander I can't trust him either.
      He's not due to be bred until next year, if at all, so we've got plenty of time to see if he comes around.
      I'll do what's best for him in this situation, if that means letting him go to someone who'll offer him the environment he wants, that's what will happen. 👍

    Are there going to be much captive breeding of these in the future? I know i wanted a indian python long ago, but you couldnt get any so i got a burm which is ok but to be honest burms are too easy to keep,not coming out right not easy but i like a little more active and something thats not so calm and collected. Burms are like a lab in snake form, grew up with labs love them but soon as i left i got a chessie best dog ever. Looking for my 3rd chessie and a larger snake soon, maybe a retic or anaconda or even indian if they become more available.
