For all the Rollins haters, this guy has humility and intelligence, sings and writes with passion and is very observant of people and society, one of the true punk rockers of my generation, so fucking what if you don't agree with his attitudes and opinions, they're his and he doesn't pretend otherwise, if you don't like it get out there and voice your own opinions, keep free speech alive

Best gig I ever went to was The Rollins Band. A small university gig, I was second row back and it felt like there were thousands behind me, but it was just a small crown. My mate fainted and Rollins dragged her onto the stage...when she woke up the first thing she said was 'I touched his sweaty belly'. Brilliant.

I walked green miles of jungle
I walked through yellow miles of pain
    I crossed starvation's desert
Watched dead river swell with rain
The song of insects fill the air
    Nights in cities of despair
Where killer's sons said , son beware
And all the roads from here to there
I sailed the sea of desolation
    Dropped my anchor there
    Plumbed the depths of isolation
Walked its length and was not scared
Went from end to end to end
And then from there I went again
The road that only this one knows
Off to nowhere there I go
    Illumination comes so hard
Makes me see but leaves its scars
At times I wish that I didn't know what I know now
Thought and thought until I lost my mind
Looked and looked until I went near blind
The path is fair but so unkind
    Illumination
At night the highway's diesel roar
Speaks to me and tells me more
Than any book I've ever read
    Or anything you ever said
    With silent eyes inside
I watch myself and worlds collide
The seasons burn and crack my skin
I stay outside and live within

I never paid much attention to the lyrics of songs in contrast to the instruments being used. But when i discovered Henry Rollins and his band i couldnt do otherwise. He is truly the only one who provokes me go and hunt the meaning of each song's lyrics. Inspirational, Straight, Clean and Honest are his words and probably the only artist i ever gave that much respect. No matter how his voice sounds like, nor how the guitars rock, nowhere will you find so deep a meaning.

I’d say Rollins is the Danny Trejo of punk, way more badass than even Chuck Norris, and a stand up guy on top of it.

His music gets better with time. No bullshit no pretense. Just powerful lyrics and overdriven guitars. One of the very few rock roll characters left.

    LYRICS -
I walked green miles of jungle / I walked through yellow miles of pain
I crossed starvation's desert / Watched dead rivers swell with rain
The song of insects filled the air / Nights in cites of despair
Where killer's sons said, son beware / And all the roads from here to there
I sailed the sea of desolation / Dropped my anchor there
Plumbed the depths of isolation / Walked its length and was not scared
Went from end to end to end / And then from there I went again
The road that only this one knows / Off to nowhere here I go
Illumination comes so hard / Makes me see but leaves its scars
At times I wish that I didn't know what I know now
Thought and thought until I lost my mind
Looked and looked until I went near blind
The path is fair but so unkind
At night the highway's diesel roar / Speaks to me and tells me more
Than any book I've ever read / Or anything you ever said
With silent eyes inside / I watch myself and worlds collide
The seasons burn and crack my skin / I stay outside and live within

Henry is an intense and deep well versed writer and this song is the brevity of I am sure a new book getting to live a bit of the story too. This rocks! 😎 I love his writing and music.

It seems a great part of the video was shot in Kolkata (Although I still love when the city was being called Calcutta), India. I must say they managed to get to the underbelly of Kolkata.... who would have thought to shoot a rock video at "Tripty's Bar and Restaurant" at bhawanipur, Kolkata ?
    Keep Rocking!!!!

You're absolutely correct. I've sent him three separate e-mails and he responded to each. Heck, on one of them he even sent me the song lyrics I asked for (because the ones on all the lyrics sites are wrong). Others just talk the talk, but Henry walks the walk when it comes to being available to his fans.

Great song. Been a fan of New Model Army for decades. Hadn't t listened to this fella in years. I live anyone sings and means every word. Justin Sullivan or Henry Rollins...it sin t a fashion or a trend...it s from the heart. It s the only way to make art.
