Been a fan since 1997. I'm 47 and bought this album the week it was released. Baffles me that it's 17 years old already when it still feels so new to me. Not my favourite Deftones album overall , but it sure has some great individual tracks on it, this being one of them. Just can't believe how quick the time has passed since 2000. The moral of this is to the younger fans. Appreciate your late teens to late twenties because once you get to your late 20's time really flies. Pink Floyd were so right when they said "And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no-one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun". Peace and love to you all :)
"Baffles me that it's 17 years old already when it still feels so new to me" I think it's because this song wasn't overplayed to death on the radio at the time, like some other big hits. There are many great classic tunes which I totally respect but just can't stomach to listen really because of how overplayed they were/are. Sometimes not being very popular is a kind of a blessing for a song in the long term

During my adolescence I suffered a lot from insomnia, and to this day I still have a bit of trouble sleeping well, until i discovered this song. It was the first Deftones song i heard. For about 2 years of my life I could only sleep listening to this song. Thanks Deftones for this masterpiece. I love the way this man sings, especially in this song. Is like some sort of epic celestial melody that goes through your veins and could bring you through an emotional rollercoaster. Awesome.
+Reno Ramadhani Eh. I was just kidding. Minerva is actually a really nice and unique name for a girl. May she be as smart and have as good a musical taste as her father!
Driving in the desert on a warm night in a convertible with the top down, a million stars all around, your love beside you, blasting Deftones. Your heart fills.
There is something almost orchestral about this song. The way Chino weaves the melody around the glacial guitar and gargantuan groove. Light and shade have always been at the heart of Deftones. No better example than this. A great place to start for those new to this truly unique band.
IIRANGERIII that doesn't mean they can't be influenced by shoegaze...they have always been different than their contemporaries because they doesn't hold on just one genre.
Idk why but deftones really give me a cold/nostalgic vibe, is it just me or is there anyone else. Like there song “entombed” and “beauty school” made me feel some type of way lol 😅
@@petegomez5280 What happened to you?. That song breaks me up. My Dad was in hospice and I was wearing out my Koi No Yokan CD during that period..... "We're alive somewhere else." 🤘
Can’t believe in my 45 years I just discovered Deftones recently, and this song is a masterpiece that strikes deep chords within me. Such beautiful tragedy.
45 This year , should be dead 10 times over . Is what it is , year they are amazing . What an awesome human experience to have in life are they not . Wish I saw them live . The first time I heard them was my own summer
Why are they SO good? Been a fan since '97 and I just turned 40 last month. When I was 15, I remember walking my girlfriend home quite often and then walking the next 15 minutes back to my house (we couldn't really hang out together past like, 9pm.. "parent rules").. I would play Around the Fur in my cd walkman (anti skip).. it was Christmas time and there were lights everywhere. I'll never forget walking home those nights.. in love.. first love.. feeling those new experiences and thinking you had it all figured out..
When Around the Fur came out I was in 11th grade. I would listen to that album every day on the way to school and that album started a long love affair with Deftones. There is definitely something magical about those moments in youth and the music that was the soundtrack to those days. Deftones was a big part of that for me.

Every time you moan And God bless you all on the Earth
This song was the one I danced to at my wedding with my wife. Every time I hear it, it brings me one of the greatest moments I've ever had in my life so far.
The band has described this vid being shot with the heavy winds and sandstorm-like conditions, an extremely uncomfortable process. The end result is quite brilliant.
There's a big beautiful statue of Minerva (Goddess of war and wisdom) in my hometown Guadalajara, México and this song always reminds me of it. This name is awesome like the song!
For me it's about music itself. It's so clear when he says "song" and "sing". We can find so much confort and peace trough our emotional storms on music. This song makes me feel so high, Deftones music makes me feel so high. Is a very weird sensation you know, is heavy but Chino's voice makes your mind fly in sort point.
I was 17 and was so underwhellmed when this album came out, but as a major fan i stil listened to it every day. Now years past and it hits on another level. Life is very strange. First time in history the future is dawning with unknown on every single of us, and all generations are united in the era of lucid nostalgia, empowerment and emotional chaos. Their music has carried me through and im glad to be alive in this moment in universal timeline. Have a great day everyone.
Whoever directed this video had definitely just seen Pink Floyd live in Pompeii. The desolate setting, the amps, the lights, the camera panning up over the mixer. Very cool.
+Non Serviam Beastie Boys do a tip of the hat to Pink Floyd live in Pompeii for the video/song "Gratitude", it is pretty cool which I'm sure you are aware.
There's no better way to explain how mesmerizing, beautiful, and hypnotic this song is, except for one word: PERFECT. It feels like you're in a trance in another dimension or something.
I just loose myself whenever I listen to this band. Every negative emotion leaves me and I just serene. I have no idea how they do it, but however they do, they're musical geniuses
I get chills listening to this. It's like that feeling you get when you're in the shower and it's the right amount of warm and you get goosebumps everywhere cause it just feels really amazing. That's what I associate Deftones with.

This is so emotional. His voice, the nostalgic wave the song gives off. Just enough to bring a tear to someone's eye. Deftones is and always will be my favorite band.
Still remember the overwhelming sense of awe this song left me feeling back when it came out when I was in 7th grade. Not really the biggest Deftones fan, but this song will always have a special place in my heart and my ears.
+daleinen Never mate. Nothing beats being sober and listening to Deftones. I had the privilege of being able to see them live and had the choice of either being wasted or sober. I have absolutely no regrets of being sober that night.
Pasando por un momento difícil. Pero escuchando a Deftones me calma mucho. Puedo vestir toda mi pena, rabia y desilusión. El mejor grupo de música de todos los tiempos para mi.♥️
62 and I been listening to these guys since they came out. This song in the thousands of times l listened to it still gives me goose bumps. Everyone's comments in this thread that really love this band are so fitting for where their music transports all of us.
I love deftones for one reason, and that reason is the fact that I always hate their songs at first. After a couple listens, you can start feeling the vibe and you find the true beauty of every one of their songs. Many of my friends have the same reaction, they hear one of their songs and go "it just sounds like random noise". After they listen to it more and more, they completely turn around and go "you know what, this song is pretty dope". Keep doing your thing deftones, I have yet to be disappointed
Such an epic song. I'm 54 and always loved metal plus good melodies and these guys are just on another level. Nu Metal bands dream they could ever be this good.
Whenever I hear Sade playing in some furniture store or as I walk past a little lounge club, I think of these guys, think of that amazing voice and that juxtaposition between heavy and angelic
The first Deftones song I ever heard was Change (In The House Of Flies). It was on Big Shiny Tunes 5, and even though it was a watered-down radio edit of the song, I thought it was pretty amazing, but it wasn't enough to really get me into the band. Then I heard My Own Summer (Shove It) on the soundtrack for The Matrix, and I thought to myself, "This might be a band worth looking into more", but for whatever reason I just never got around to it. Then a few years later, one fateful day I randomly switched on the radio and I heard Minerva on the airwaves for the first time, and I immediately fell completely in love. It's to date still my favourite Deftones song.
The first time I heard a Deftones song was Change (In The House Of Flies) at the end of the Dragon Ball Z Cooler movie, and I've been a Deftones fan ever since.
I get goose bumps all over when I hear this song, by the end I'm dancing like a child utterly lost in the pure bliss of music. Thank you Deftones. You save us.
Deftones is the best band ever! THEY are the reason why I'm a musician, THEY are the reason why I make music and THEY are the reason why my music tastes started to become diverse as the years go by. Deftones are basically in the same league as Tool and Korn (two other favourite bands of mine), but Deftones is my biggest influence as a musician.
Deftones fans are the coolest people on this earth. God bless you all

Igual la mia de 9 meses!!
Genial 👏🤘
Le haz marcado el camino, todo irá bien 👍
Wow, que padre
This beautifull song.. I named my daughter Minerva inspired by this song :')
+Reno Ramadhani She's gonna be called Minnie for ever.
Tudor Popescu nope.. Everyone call her "erva" :))
+Reno Ramadhani Eh. I was just kidding. Minerva is actually a really nice and unique name for a girl. May she be as smart and have as good a musical taste as her father!
+Tudor Popescu ahaha.. I know mate, thank you anyway! Enjoy this beautifull song and have a great day!
+Reno Ramadhani Minerva is the name of the Roman goddess.
Deftones just gives you this certain feeling that’s hard to explain. They just know how to transport you to another world.
Driving in the desert on a warm night in a convertible with the top down, a million stars all around, your love beside you, blasting Deftones. Your heart fills.

Etherial =D
A time and place. Deftones take you there.
FKNG THIS 100%
There is something almost orchestral about this song. The way Chino weaves the melody around the glacial guitar and gargantuan groove. Light and shade have always been at the heart of Deftones. No better example than this. A great place to start for those new to this truly unique band.
Would be really beautiful to hear an orchestra play it tbh!
A few days ago this was the first Deftones I ever listened to fully. It's great at every level.
Thanks Rick Beato for reminding me, What Makes This Song Great!
Also came back because of him.
Breathtaking.
@@DannyVarelaGarcia stunning. gorgeous. satisfying.
Also here because of Rick
Yep. Thought there’d be a comment here about this. Love that he’s liked. Such a cool guy. Very smart, brilliant! Thanks for the reassurance Rick!
He actually introduced it to me, which I have to thank him for.
This is one of those songs that just makes you sit in awe and there aren't alot of them that do that for me.
ceceoo3 If you get chills to a song, it's the shit🤘

My favorite band. The sound... Is heavenly, yet destructive.... With hints of beauty
yeah, that's the definition of shoegaze
Joaquin Verastegui
Deftones isn't shoegaze
IIRANGERIII that doesn't mean they can't be influenced by shoegaze...they have always been different than their contemporaries because they doesn't hold on just one genre.
Kayden Baldwin: original comment, that greatly improved my life
Word
Long live and love Deftones and every 30 year old here. God bless you all!
Deftones GOATED
Why would you even want to throw a goat at them. Its kinda weird.
@@simplyhuman3982 it's a new chiro technique that Dr. Hightower invented
More sheeped I'd say.
I don't get the Satan vibe from them, could always be wrong but I'm pretty sure these dudes are kool

L@@RobTheSquire
Idk why but deftones really give me a cold/nostalgic vibe, is it just me or is there anyone else.
Like there song “entombed” and “beauty school” made me feel some type of way lol 😅
Same here
When you’ve triumphed over death numerous times, didn’t complain, and only now are telling your side of the story😁
It's just a feel
Beauty school brings me to tears so does hearts and wires
@@petegomez5280 What happened to you?. That song breaks me up. My Dad was in hospice and I was wearing out my Koi No Yokan CD during that period..... "We're alive somewhere else." 🤘
Deftones is the heavy metal band that can write songs about sex without sounding trashy. They have their own genre of music.
YES!!!!
First sentence yes. the second no.
@Michael Whitted they make me high without getting stoned honestly
@YūGen what? No band has their own genre
@Poly.Stars33d Bro its new metal mixing whith shoegaze.
Can’t believe in my 45 years I just discovered Deftones recently, and this song is a masterpiece that strikes deep chords within me. Such beautiful tragedy.
Metal/Nu Metal is ageless and so is the chance and luck to become a fan!!! Horns up!!🤘🍻

This is the song that got me into them, almost 20 years ago.
45 This year , should be dead 10 times over . Is what it is , year they are amazing . What an awesome human experience to have in life are they not . Wish I saw them live . The first time I heard them was my own summer
it's better late than never... i'm about to be 40 but first seen them live when i was 12
Why are they SO good? Been a fan since '97 and I just turned 40 last month. When I was 15, I remember walking my girlfriend home quite often and then walking the next 15 minutes back to my house (we couldn't really hang out together past like, 9pm.. "parent rules").. I would play Around the Fur in my cd walkman (anti skip).. it was Christmas time and there were lights everywhere. I'll never forget walking home those nights.. in love.. first love.. feeling those new experiences and thinking you had it all figured out..
1
When Around the Fur came out I was in 11th grade. I would listen to that album every day on the way to school and that album started a long love affair with Deftones. There is definitely something magical about those moments in youth and the music that was the soundtrack to those days. Deftones was a big part of that for me.
ninjas choppin onions my man, i feel the same here, i had it all figured out until no more.
I get all... Numb
When she sings, it's over
Such a strange... Numb
And it brings my knees to the earth
And God bless you all
For the song you saved... Us
You're the same... Numb
When you sing, it's over
Such a strange... Numb
It could bring back peace to the Earth
So God bless you all
For the song you saved... Us... All
For the hearts you break... Every time you moan
I get all... Numb
We're the same... Numb
And it brings our knees to the earth
So God bless you all
For the song you saved... Us... All
For the hearts you break... Every time you moan
And God bless you all on the Earth
This song was the one I danced to at my wedding with my wife. Every time I hear it, it brings me one of the greatest moments I've ever had in my life so far.
Hell yeah my man!! Integrity and faith, a real man!!!
Congrats and wishing you the best
No way! Congrats! I'm tearing up just thinking about that lol
congrats and all that, but how the fuck do you dance to this song?
1
0:30 Thats one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard.
"God bless you all on the earth." Beautiful ❤
I’m 38 and I’ve been a fan since I heard “be quiet and drive” when I was 10….my favorite band.
For me it's about music itself. It's so clear when he says "song" and "sing". We can find so much confort and peace trough our emotional storms on music. It can breaks our hearts as well and connect us to our deepest feelings. There are songs that can really save us... This is my favourite song on earth!
This song makes me feel so high, Deftones music makes me feel so high. Is a very weird sensation you know, is heavy but Chino's voice makes your mind fly in sort point.
I can't explain why, but this song cuts right through me. Makes the neck hairs stand up over and over. But then again that's what Deftones do ❤️
I was 17 and was so underwhellmed when this album came out, but as a major fan i stil listened to it every day. Now years past and it hits on another level. Life is very strange. First time in history the future is dawning with unknown on every single of us, and all generations are united in the era of lucid nostalgia, empowerment and emotional chaos. Their music has carried me through and im glad to be alive in this moment in universal timeline. Have a great day everyone.
you don't listen to deftones you experience them 😩
Brenden Farnum very well put. I read all the comments in search of wisdom like yours. And you are very right.
You let them cascade right into your third eye 💙
Corey 742617000027 very good, didn't think of it that way either. That 3rd eye being conscieness, understanding. I agree.
you got that from a tool meme lmao
Brenden Farnum truer words have never been spoken
So God bless you Chi, for the song you sang...

He looked so cool in this video
Whoever directed this video had definitely just seen Pink Floyd live in Pompeii. The desolate setting, the amps, the lights, the camera panning up over the mixer. Very cool.
I love this video. It's beautiful and fits the song :)
+Non Serviam also Slayer's Season in the abyss video also seems to be of much inspiration to director.
+Non Serviam Beastie Boys do a tip of the hat to Pink Floyd live in Pompeii for the video/song "Gratitude", it is pretty cool which I'm sure you are aware.
IS THIS the greatest DEFTONES song ever?
Will always be one of my favorite songs of all time. Seeing it played live was a dream come true.
Your lucky mna
I feel you I was so happy seeing this in front of me live
This song is an experience. Wish I could see this live
Havent seen this one live. last time they opened with rosemary into digital bath which was sweeet

There's no better way to explain how mesmerizing, beautiful, and hypnotic this song is, except for one word: PERFECT. It feels like you're in a trance in another dimension or something.
3
The older i get the more i feel this is their best song
@Andrew Lion it may be for him, their music is abstract and beauty is a subjective thing, that applies to deftones as well.
This song feels like home.
Not for me.. But it's definitely the best song off of this record. The S/T is and SNW are definitely their weakest, but this song is a 10/10.
Me too. But so many amazing songs, and everyone is right with their own personal favorite.
@@arsonne snw and s/t are 1 and 3 for me respectively. Goes to show how good they are when opinions can cary so much

I would pay my respects to Minerva. She is beautiful.
What can I say, man. This track is sooo soothing and heavy at the same time. *Transcendence*
Deftones "Self-Titled" was an amazing follow up to White Pony -- just felt the groove slow a bit, but very underrated!! Amazing record
To be honest, this was one of the songs that got me into Deftones
same here
same!!
Right after 'Change' :D
this comment makes me feel very old haha!
Mine was Engine No. 9
Rest in Peace dear Chi Cheng. Thanks so much for the music. ♥

For four minutes and twenty seconds, I get to feel more alive than I usually do
HAPPY 420 !!!! dis song hits even more after u Baked
I just loose myself whenever I listen to this band. Every negative emotion leaves me and I just serene. I have no idea how they do it, but however they do, they're musical geniuses
It's called a soundscape (:
I feel the same.♡
+tonesofdef00 It's called chino's voice exploding your ovaries
+Sophie O'Donnell LMFAO
i just get sad whenever i listen to deftones except for theyre heavy stuff like elite or my own summer
2024 e ainda estamos aqui procurando por Deftones no RUclips. Alguém mais?
I get chills listening to this. It's like that feeling you get when you're in the shower and it's the right amount of warm and you get goosebumps everywhere cause it just feels really amazing. That's what I associate Deftones with.

Minerva - Deftones
Eu fico paralisado
Quando ela canta que está acabado
Uma paralisia tão estranha
Que me faz cair de joelhos na terra
E que Deus abençoe a todos
Pela canção com que você nos salvou
Você é a mesma paralisia
Quando você canta que está acabado
Uma paralisia tão estranha
Que poderia trazer a paz de volta à Terra
Então que Deus abençoe a todos
Pela canção com que você nos salvou, oh
Pelos corações que você parte a cada vez que lamenta
Eu fiquei paralisado
Nós somos a mesma paralisia
brings back memories of summer 2003,just grad high school, and having fun. Good times...
great summer 2003 :'(
I agree, what a rocking band!
that summer sucked for me, I graduated HS that year too, I had to work early morning shift on a dairy farm..it sucked.
The clouds pass in perfect time to this song.
This is so emotional. His voice, the nostalgic wave the song gives off. Just enough to bring a tear to someone's eye. Deftones is and always will be my favorite band.
I just listened this yesterday..First time hahaha
Still remember the overwhelming sense of awe this song left me feeling back when it came out when I was in 7th grade. Not really the biggest Deftones fan, but this song will always have a special place in my heart and my ears.
same!
close to 2019 and i ................still have goosebump

Had them since NHL 2004.
You want goosebumps? Wait until what 2020 is gonna bring you. Goosebumps....yeah....but NOT in a good way.
There is no way this song is almost 20 years old. I feel old af.

+daleinen Never mate. Nothing beats being sober and listening to Deftones. I had the privilege of being able to see them live and had the choice of either being wasted or sober. I have absolutely no regrets of being sober that night.
Deftones makes me feel something I never felt with any other band.

Pasando por un momento difícil. Pero escuchando a Deftones me calma mucho. Puedo vestir toda mi pena, rabia y desilusión. El mejor grupo de música de todos los tiempos para mi.♥️
Animo bro!
No estás solo!

62 and I been listening to these guys since they came out. This song in the thousands of times l listened to it still gives me goose bumps. Everyone's comments in this thread that really love this band are so fitting for where their music transports all of us.
If I had the money I'd make a big budget Hollywood movie just to use this as the closing song.
omg yes
I definitely want to work with you for that.
+Kevin Gillihan lets crowfund the shit out of this
Uriel Gallaga Man I wish.
i always have similar thoughts when listening to Deftones
I love deftones for one reason, and that reason is the fact that I always hate their songs at first. After a couple listens, you can start feeling the vibe and you find the true beauty of every one of their songs. Many of my friends have the same reaction, they hear one of their songs and go "it just sounds like random noise". After they listen to it more and more, they completely turn around and go "you know what, this song is pretty dope". Keep doing your thing deftones, I have yet to be disappointed
What the fuck are you talking about? Deftones are borderline pop music. How can you say they sound like noise at first lol?!
you have hit the nail on the head dude. i remember trying to listen to a whole ablum and hating it then i listened to them and i love it now
Such an epic song.
I always need to take a deep breath when I listen to this song or I will start to cry. Every fucking time.
Are you literally me? This is weird as hell.
big shiny tunes 5? i used to have that CD and that's how i came across Deftones
The first time I heard a Deftones song was Change (In The House Of Flies) at the end of the Dragon Ball Z Cooler movie, and I've been a Deftones fan ever since.
@@timscott6793 yo what? they have Deftones on DBZ? How did I not know this? lmao
I get goose bumps all over when I hear this song, by the end I'm dancing like a child utterly lost in the pure bliss of music. Thank you Deftones. You save us.
Whenever I'm flat and need cheering up, I always come back to this clip/song. The ultimate energy boosting song!

In 2024 this should have way more than 24 million views it's an epic song 🎵 😊
This song still gives me the same feeling it did almost 20 years ago 🖤
Agree, still get goosebumps, so powerful
