There's a difference between what people self produce on RUclips now and the years before RUclips. TV and internet are very different. Not saying anything is better, but understand the time and influence of a music video during those times.
@Paul Steinwall Both are truly a masterpiece, and both were ultra low budget. Turn Down for What was actually cheaper to make, since The Daniels were paid virtually nothing to produce the whole thing and did everything themselves.
@Paul Steinwall Huh?? Turn Down For What is just vulgar for vulgarity's sake. It has no point. Sabotage OTOH is flat out creative genius set to a MUCH better tune, it's coolness personified.

I loved watching this video on MTV ( back when MTV actually was a good channel to watch to see music videos and Beavis and ButtHead and interviews with Marilyn Manson. I'm now 43 and counting..... Time goes by so quickly and before you know it the ride and game is over.
@@patrickbrinkmeier1858 yep, 43 now and I remember this vid playing a huge part in our high school years, so if the date's right then that was Year 10 and GCSEs weren't until the following school year and this was a massive doss year following the tricky trials of settling-in the year prior (fucked up old system with middle schools for me, so Year 9 was the first in high school). Beavis & Butthead! Never had MTV myself but Channel 4(?) showed B&B. What a time to be alive!
I feel like Spike Jonze's direction for this video consisted of "Drink this, smoke this, put this on, now let's go goof around in LA." Absolute masterpiece.
Some years ago when I was a kid my dad showed me this music video to me and my friend. We could not stop laughing. But the song is pretty good too (sorry for my english not being so great, I am from Sweden).
+Jama M Jama Growing up in the 1970s, almost every cop show that started at 9:00pm or later was like this, including the cameo of the celebrity starring as himself. That's why they made the video, in fact. As an homage to those long gone days.
The energy of this song is timeless but the video fills you with an instant nostalgia you might recognize even if you weren't actually around in the 70s, 90s or 10s.
I'm turning 60 this year.. I've been listening to the Beastie boys for about 4 years now. They are without a doubt one of the greatest music acts of all time, in my opinion.. They have music that's so damn cool and so removed from the stuff that made them famous, that you may forget that you are listening to the Beastie Boys. They definitely deserve a lot more credit than they have received. Their loyal fans understand. They have known this about the Beastie boys all along.

Check out the A$AP Forever video. Some of the best editing and cinematography I've seen in a music video in a while.
@Jt Money Yeah, but it is like comparing friendships in real life to Facebook friendships. One is far more interactive and memorable.
You still find this in the Black Metal Szene.
@Carl E. What on Earth are you talking about? There have only ever been about three videos at this standard.
Still to this day one of the sickest tracks n coolest videos, beastie boys are timeless!
Is that classical music ? 🖖🖖
Indeed
No question!
it's intergalactic planetary.
People don't mention often enough what an awesome job Spike Jonze did directing this. The BB had a ton of ideas to work with, but he brought it all together. Definitely one of my favorite videos and songs of all time.
Had no idea spike jonze directed this. Makes sense though.
Who? Spike Joooonnnnzzzzzeeee
Spike Jonze should do a retro cop show for one of the streaming services based on this music video.
A lot of people don't even know the Spike Lee directed this
Spike Jonze is an incredible and versatile director
Twenty years on this is still the coolest sh*t ever
24
One of those tracks that just outscale. You can't measure this sh!t. It's a classic already, soon to be hiphop anthem or something.
Best Music video every! FOREVER!!! "WHOOOOOOAAAAAAaaá!"
Still one of my favorite classical music songs of all time.
Star trek reference
🖖🏻
@@ethanjaceabad4592 Thank you Mr. Spock.
One of the best scenes in the last twenty years!
I cringed until I remembered the reference
@@ethanjaceabad4592 could be futurama as well.
1:41 the two of them running across the bridge, the simple guitar lick. For whatever reason, this is always my favorite part of the vid.
🧊 ⛸️ 🍧 🔥 1:57
I absolutely agree with you.
That’s MCA’s bass interlude. It fits the song perfectly.
One of the best music videos ever made. An entire story and mythical world wrapped up in 3 minutes.
it's not so much mythical, as this captures 1970's crime drama in a nutshell. Streets of San Francisco, Starsky n Hutch, maybe a little Mod Squad.
love the Bridge fight scene
Old SF, yo
Story? Yeah right it's just a bunch of nonsensical stuff being said but in a catchy tune that makes it sound so great. @KingOfClay
There's a difference between what people self produce on RUclips now and the years before RUclips. TV and internet are very different. Not saying anything is better, but understand the time and influence of a music video during those times.
The best music video of all time.
I’ve always loved when the track stops at 1:38, and the guitar riff kicks back in at 1:41. So unique and cool.
So good, also I’m pretty sure that’s actually the bass
Was amazing live in '97. Longer pause with lights out. Place went nuts when MCA brought the bass back.
Typically known as a "breakdown."
But awesome, nonetheless 😃
and then, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
That's the bass :D
Possibly the greatest music video of all time.
Intergalactic
definitely not even in top 10 dude. and dont get me wrong i love these guys. but cmon man. theres some great videos out there. michael jackson alone has 10 music videos better than this
I had to downvote, brah. Simply because you said "Possibly".
I love how they take a donut break during the rest. That's some top level humor right there.
It's a TV commercial timeout, snack food intake session, film intermission style break in the action.
The donuts should have gotten credit .😁
Also, they did the "throwing back the badge"... Was it mike d, the chief tho? Who are they turning in their badge to?
The good ole days of music videos. Miss the real MTV.
Anyone else on an oldschool-music spree?
matschgi000 Always am.

matschgi000 always ! Old school New school, Up school Down school, it's still rock and roll to me. But yeah, lately I've really been on an old school bender. but I love it all (ok, most of it) metal rap hip hop new wave old wave punk heavy metal alternative folk folk rock electronic trance house fusion reggae (more hard core). yet, there is nothing quite so cathartic as blasting Beasties when you're feeling below your bottom of bestial bottoms
Fight For Your Right, Sabotage, Intergalactic... truly the freaks of the industry
Digital Underground?

Sure Shot
Oh the best three. Intergalactic is so cool!
was backpacking thru Europe, staying at a public gym turned hostel on an island in the middle of Prague. This just premiered and played on the communal TV and all eyes were glued on the screen. Travelers were laughing in unison at all the same parts. A dozen languages, unable to communicate mostly, but speaking that common language: SABOTAGE.
That sounds like a pretty cool memory! Moments like that are amazing!
WHO IN 2025????❤❤❤
Always
Here
Io!
Yep. After seeing the American Dad Weird Al version "Rabbitage
Never left 😎
This was totally EPIC from the first time I saw this on MTV in the summer of 1994 and remains to be EPIC. My favorite music video. Never gets old. RIP Adam 🙏
yep I was 10 years old and saw them premiere the video when it was new. Now I'm 38 holy shit time is a thief
I was 24
Yea it's a classic music video man that much is true! How do the Authorities deal with the mean evil intimidating drug projection smelly fruitcakes, all for the crust of a dollar even of their of their kind dude???
I was 14 when this came out in January of 94...I turned 15 a few months later and remember hounding my parents to get this cassette tape as one of my birthday gifts.
Yeah it's kept the test of time too.
His name is Spike Jonze.......
It's not just saving Yorktown but saving it in style
omg this is so true
+Hanna Azzahra like that scene made the movie for me it was so much bs but it was sooooooooo awesome
Just a wave of cgi aliens exploding to this song
Anthony White So what ...it was awesome
so true
The best Video Clip of all time.
Can we all stand united that when this song was popular we we're all lucky individual to have experienced it?
Best music video ever made!...there could be a whole movie spin-off from this that would be #1.
+MrAnguswangus Yep, this shit works on so many levels it's unreal!
+MrAnguswangus They should have totally made a movie out of this. Love that 70s Cocaine Cowboy retro flavor.
+MrAnguswangus They did make the movie… it's called 'Starsky & Hutch'.
They should include a late 70's porn scene with a mustache and full bush ...
+Rob Lycar More like The Naked Gun.
Better 3 minutes then 90% of all the hollywood movies in the last 14 years.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Is this the greatest music video of all time or what?!
Rest in peace MCA, it's been 8 years ago from today

this video is fucking gold. i wish this movie actually existed.
Yaz Stone i know they are parodying those cop show cliches including the freeze frame when their name pops on screen. its perfect
Arch Stanton chill out mate
Jama M Jama I'm cool man/bro
i cant believe this song saved the universe
it was LOUD and DISTRACTING and really epic! also its classic :DDD
don't you agree? :D
Well it's a pretty good song so I'm good with that
+LanceTech Krall was planning to use it on all federation planets
but still not the universw
"ooh child" saved the Galaxy.
Greatest video of all time! How it didn't win at the VMA's for best video is all you need to know about award shows.
This looks like a music video that was really fun to make. R.I.P. Cochese and Sir Stewart Wallace.
The energy of this song is timeless but the video fills you with an instant nostalgia you might recognize even if you weren't actually around in the 70s, 90s or 10s.
and especially if you were!
It makes me think of Starsky and Hutch.
80s
90s or 10s? Around 1990 were born the last humans. After that we have the humanoids...
@@CaptainHarlock-kv4zt🤣🤣🤣

by far
The Beaves and Butthead episode where they watched this and commented, nearly killed me of laugher.

@@andrewoakeshott8931 Classical music ( Star Trek reference )
I'm turning 60 this year.. I've been listening to the Beastie boys for about 4 years now. They are without a doubt one of the greatest music acts of all time, in my opinion.. This song is fun and cool. However, they have music that can make you cry. They have music that's so damn cool and so removed from the stuff that made them famous, that you may forget that you are listening to the Beastie Boys. They definitely deserve a lot more credit than they have received. Their loyal fans understand. They have known this about the Beastie boys all along.
my best Karaoke perfomance ever. drives me from a shy boy to a madman inmediatelly
Didii Campino grab the mic... give em hell
I'm not into Karaoke, but I used to dance like crazy on this track. No shame neither.
This song almost broke my drums when I tried to play it. I don't think I could handle the karaoke version
Good lad

Best high energy track eva.......
My head nearly exploded the first time I heard this song! Easily my favorite Beasties tune. So funky, edgy and rhythmic all at the same time...
This is when Musicians had a brain...and then Some. Timeless. Genius. Rocket.
*Bones:* "Is that classical music?"
*Spock:* "Yes Dr, it would seem to be."
Watching right now!
Just saw that scene tonight and literally laughed out loud...then immediately felt old as this song is 27 years old and could be defined as an "oldie" at this point. Keep in mind that cars become classics at 25 years old so...it could be a classic song by that definition.
@@TheJMBon I'm no huge Star Trek fan as I've only seen the Kelvin Timeline movies but I think they meant classical because it's centuries old at that time.
@@mrcooper8852 Seems like you are explaining my own argument to me. Thanks for trying to reiterate my point again.
@Jo nne a classic is not necessarily classical.
I saw them live three times in the '90s. Needless to say they were absolutely amazing! I miss the '90s so much. 😐
I miss the 90's as well. Was a great decade.
Never mind what other people say.
If you were into them in the ´90s you have a good taste.
You are so lucky to have seen them live!

The nineties were the best ties.
It was such a special time. No matter what bs was going on, the music was so fresh, unique, diverse, just incredible
