1986. EVERYBODY loved this song and album in middle school back then. Nobody had any idea they'd become what they became though. Everybody loved this album and Run DMC's "Raising Hell" - those two albums in '86 were so influential to breaking white kids into rap/hip-hop and exploding music boundaries, you youngins have no idea. You hear this song now and it's still kinda cool, but back then it literally fucking broke down doors in people's minds yo lol. Especially when people bought License To Ill and this song was about the mildest song on the album, I'll never forget putting that cassette on for the first time expecting to hear similar punkish tunes only to be greeted by all the amazing new "rap" songs on that album. "It's the new style!"

It was sort of like this and sometimes things got out of hand and house was wrecked and things stolen(not by me obviously)..Oh the good old days lol..That's why you NEVER advertise a party when your parents left for a week or weekend when in High School lol.... I mean some people screwed in the beds of the parents, kids and hallways!! One dude urinated in the closet as he had to go but the bathrooms were occupied..Some people drank too much and threw up where ever they were!! Hey,that was then.. We did get free beer in the fridge,as people put beer in the fridge and you know we drank it if we didnt like the guy or he was pissed drunk we found his stash and drank it....We found the parents hard alcohol stash, drank it clean away... So youngsters, this is what your parents did..I am in my early 50's and well, not proud of everything I did back then..Nothing too bad...My buddy ended up in some random guys 1979 Lincoln Continental (sweet car)..The keys were on the wall, car in the carport and a clear shot to get out,so...Well he borrowed it..I can say I did NOT go with him!! My girlfriend drove me and she was nearly sober! He drove it all night, sort of returned it and parked it on the grass of the High School 1 block away ,with keys in it..oh well.. A tidbit of 1983 folks...Don't be like me,be smart and stay out of trouble! But..I didn't do it :)

One of the coolest song & video back in time . when MTV was MTV .
I still get goose bumps to this day when the beat drops to this .Ill never forget the first time I heard this back in the 80s it was the greatest thing I ever heard . RIP MCA
This my first time hearing pops is ok 🫡
Oh my god, I remember being a little kid and screaming along with this song with my Dad!

this party looks more fun than 90% of the parties i’ve been too
My Drunk Boyfriend yeah, I’ve been to a party and a good chunk of people were just sitting down on couches and chairs texting each other instead of hanging out and getting drunk or stoned. This was a college party, I can only imagine what High School parties are like now.
Its because its the fucking beastie boys.

You got to fight for your right to party
The 80's, the age in which musical videos started to be memorable and great
Yeah, the age of MTV!
I'm impressed that that many people showed up to the nerds' party before the Beastie Boys came.
I'm impressed the beastie boys even came. Because they can have soda and pie!
Why? Do you think there was something wrong with them where you are surprised that anyone would want to show up? Do you think it's because of their physical appearance?
@@Steveman27 yes
@@andrewlavoie6034 Hahahahah savage
Omg. Lol. “Physical appearance” please be joking.
Every outfit the kids are wearing during the scene where they walk in? I either wore exactly that or a friend did. I graduated HS in ‘87. And we were COOL (rofl...I want my MTV!!!)

That is most likely literally MCA's own copy of Popular Science that he sets on fire.
my dad and i used to listen to the Beastie Boys often when i was a little girl, now i'm a teenager (15) and i still love them
They were definitely underrated when this album came out. Was a great time to be part of music
It was their debut album and it was an instant hit all over the world.
The album sold 10 million copies in America alone😅
Oh gosh that ‘word’ again..😛
It wasn't underrated at all, months in even the European hit charts too.
Punks even liked them and they hated everything not punk.
@@kkeI I was in jr high. every kid had to have this album unless they wanted to be left out of everything
I'm gonna be honest, when I was a kid I thought the beastie boys and the beach boys were the same group. I just thought they were musically diverse lol.
hate when that happens
Omg me too lol 😂
This made me laugh thank you
It makes sense. 😂
lmao I used to think the backstreet boys and the beach boys were the same group
As a 17 year old listening to this album for the first time I'll be the first to say, the music back in the 80s is better than today's music.
Maybe there is hope for your generation
I’m sick of letting my 4 year old listen to Baby Shark so I got him hooked on this.
🤣🤘 Hell yeah! That's the stuff I like to hear

Now he won’t have to fight for his right to party and he won’t develop the party fighting skills he’ll need to survive in the wild. Bad move.

This is a hell of a music video. And its crazy to think that this guys are still cool these days. They literally invented swag.

Fun fact: the guy whom MCA spits beer in his face is Dan Scilken, a former member of The Young and the Useless, whom Ad Rock was once apart of prior to joining the Beastie Boys. He was also Ad Rock’s friend and they hung out even after The Young and the Useless broke up. He unfortunately died from an apparent drug overdose shortly after leaving a rehab center
i think it's *Dave* Skilken

Amanda Dixson de la merde, aucune libération la dedans.
Except that it was an ironic satire before Smells Like Teen Spirit was ever spelled out for Gen X. There is SO MUCH subtler satire in the 80s it's embarrassing...you know the Beasties hate this song because people take it literally? They're like...smart dudes.

"It's the new style!"
throw in some grandmaster flash, 2live crew and Tone Loc, later Cypress Hill (black Sunday ) what an album.. was my intro into rap. Then came NWA and T with cop killer etc.
I remember when my dad showed me this video for the first time and I thought it was so weird and now it’s a great memory I have with him, I miss him everyday but this song makes me think about him 😂

Fun fact: The original guitar solo for this song was written and played by Slayer's Kerry King
I never knew that.
Thank you kind stranger...
Dang I didnt know that.
So there's two of them? Which one is in this song?
@@Steveman27 Yes. So while working on Reign in Blood in 1986 Slayer's producer at the time was Rick Rubin, around the same time Rick was also helping Beastie Boys with their debut album, and he asked Kerry King to do the guitar solo for them. It's on "No sleep till Brooklyn" and this one. They even did the record session on the same building if i'm not mistaken.

Just a millennial being curious -how were they generally perceived by the black community? Just good music or were any really opposed to the group?
@@itsericanicole5243 they got a warm welcome from the black community, and partly because of the label they were on, def jam had L.L Cool J. , run dmc, public enemy, and a slew of other great artists, the Beastie Boys really we’re a great group

Still my favorite song from them...NEVER gets old😁
Never a dull moment with the Beastie Boys 🥳🎉🤩🤟
This song is a true masterpiece
Funny, because back in the day 1980's as a teen, parties were sort of like this...
We never trashed a house(others did rarely) but when people heard of a party somewhere a pack of us would go crash it and you had rockers, dweebs, punks, new age etc showing up...
