@@B0rnles13 they probably assumed the tape was subliminal messages like a bunch of authority figures did for Rap, Metal, and harder punk Ramones hard stuff or harder. They thought this way until mid 1980's when hearings happened for the music of the era by conservatives, some who were the same high ranking people condemning Rock and Roll in the 1950's.

They wrote this song riding the train late at night coming back from a gig in Philly. Ad Rock said in a radio interview that they were all fired up after a killer show in Philly and some crew members were falling asleep on the train ride back to New York. Needless to say, the Beasties were having none of that, so they started chanting/screaming 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' at there sleeping crew members. Awesome music fact!

    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
Foot on the pedal never ever false metal
Engine running hotter than a boiling kettle
    My job's ain't a job, it's a damn good time
City to city I'm running my rhymes
On location, touring around the nation
    Beastie Boys always on vacation
Itchy trigger finger but a stable turntable
I do what I do best because I'm willing and able
Ain't no faking, your money I'm taking
Going coast to coast watching all the girlies shaking
While you're at the job working nine to five, The Beastie Boys at the Garden - cold kickin' it live
    No sleep 'til -
    Another place - another train
    Another bottle in the brain
    Another girl - another fight
    Another drive all night
Our manager's crazy, he always smokes dust
He's got his own room at the back of the bus
Tour around the world, you rock around the clock
Plane to hotel, girls on the jock
We're thrashing hotels like it's going out of style
Getting paid along the way cause it's worth your while
Four on the floor - Adrock's out the door
M.C.A.'s in the back because he's skeezin' with a whore
We got a safe in the trunk with money in a stack
With dice in the front and Brooklyn's in the back
Why won't you take my ride
    No sleep 'til
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
Ain't seen the light since we started this band
M.C.A. - get on the mic my man
Born and bred Brooklyn - U.S.A
They all me Adam Yauch - but I'm M.C.A
    Like a lemon to a lime - a lime to a lemon
I sip the def ale with all the fly women
    Got limos, arena, TV shows
    Autograph pictures and classy hos
Step off homes - get out of my way
Taxing little girlies form here to L.A
Waking up but I get to sleep
Cause I'll be rocking this party eight days a week
    No sleep 'til
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    Yeahh!!
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    No sleep 'til
    Brooklyn!
    No sleep 'til

Now, I consider Licensed to Ill an amazing masterpiece, and 3 or 4 other later tunes - admittedly, they are mainstream, not deep cuts - resonate in my mind regularly. These kids, now old guys, made an impact on the level of genius - in terms of originality and long lasting impact. Respect

I love this song, I must have bought this album over a hundred of times, the Beastie Boys was the shit, Hip Hop's first multi platinum album

    • @zangetsu1597
      @zangetsu1597 6 лет назад

That's truly interesting. I think something similar happened with early Jazz or Rock N' Roll. Perhaps it was both. Black Americans founded the genre(s), but couldn't quite hit platinum. But Elvis (for rock) and a number of white individuals for Jazz grew more popular exponentially. Not because they were better, but simply because people like representation and are more willing to support people who look like them. Louie Armstrong's skill made him go international, but he had to give his all to receive his well-deserved recognition. Someone on here made a pretty insightful comment. Black Americans create the genres, but because they make up a small percentage, their reach isn't as long as say white Americans. Therefore, when white Americans do the same thing, it gets national and international attention and becomes what we call "mainstream". I've noticed this recurring pattern for decades. Thanks for the information. Time to do more research.

who cares. Every generation thinks their music is special and the golden age of rock or rap or whatever. The fact is they are only golden ages because the audience were young. In reality they are all pretty crap really.
