  • The Cobra art movement was a collaboration of artists from Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam. Just after the second World War they wanted things differently. Also in the art world. So the Cobra artists rebelled at the strict rules and looked for what we now call ‘Outsider Art’, artwork made by children, amateur painting and the paintings made by the mentally ill. By integrating these elements their artwork looked very different. But also very approachable because it sometimes looked as if a kid could do it. Personally I really like a animal paintings they all seemed to make in their own way.
So I will paint easy animal paintings. Famous artists of the Cobra art movement are the Dutch painters Karel Appel, Lucebert and Constant Nieuwenhuys. But also the Danish Asger Jorn and Carl Henning Pedersen. Other well-known artists who participated in the of the Cobra art movement are Pierre Alechinsky, Christian Dotremont

    Materials
The art materials I use in the videos are not sponsored.
I prefer to work on multi-purpose paper, more info in this video: • How to choose the RIGH...
In almost all my videos I use with Winsor&Newton Galeria acrylics, if not, I will say so in the video.
Other materials I use are in random order: 5, 10 and 40mm brushes, palette knives, acrylics medium, Ecoline liquid watercolor, Lyra color pencils, Lyra soft pastels, oil pastels, Stabilo color pencils, paper palette pad and basic masking tape. I also use household items like a permanent marker, scrub sponge, scissors, paper towel, and so on.

I love the free, childlike appearance of this art; very whimsical and quirky! 🎨

Hi Rosie, yes it looks childlike but at the same time it isn't. Some look like my worst nightmare. Interesting painting style dough. Thanks for commenting. Bye, Albert

I can agree that some of the Cobra artists' images were a little disturbing, but in my opinion not as disturbing as some of the Surrealists' images. Btw I like your painting, and your students are very talented! 🎨

Hi Rosie, nightmares are personal 😉 but indeed a burning giraf (Dali) can really get me down, so sad. And yes, the participants make nice artwork. Love it, every time. Thanks. Bye, Albert

    Hello, Albert!
I'm glad I found your channel, I'm not a painter myself, but I do love watching other people paint and learning about art history and it's movements.
Cobra art seems to be very hard to do when you have already learned so many composition and painting techniques, letting the will for a "perfect" artwork go away seems to be very refreshing.
    Cheers! Hugs from Brazil!

Hi Tekkino, thanks. That's the fun part of doing all these experiments, just trying to understand how it can be done. Letting go of your routines and ideas can be very hard. And it can be fun to do. Why not try it yourself too? Albert

I must thank you for your amazing videos. Tomorrow I start on my first painting in the fauve style. It will be 2 x 3 ft. I also adore the cobra style. I probably never would have attempted these styles if I hadn't seen your videos. Your work and teaching style are inspiring, supportive and clarifying.
    Thanks a million! Suzanne

The importance here is not to trying to draw like a child in stead try to let the child that you long time ago left behind that still inside of you come out to play and paint that is the hardest part

You're right 1miltond, it's about your inner child or the child within and through (re-)connecting with it enhancing your creativity. Albert

Thank you for your response Albert your video make me wake up to understand mi self more after seeing your video I sit and try to remember me as a child when true memories but that won't help because that is just the past life there is a child inside Avery adult person but because life and society demands we so call grow up living and forgetting the most important part of us and is funny because we expend most of our life looking for spiritual freedom and the kid inside of us is the one who knos what real freedom is you only free in life when you are a child when we become adults responsable and hard by life demands we live freedom fade out .so I trying to go back to that in mi expression in paintings in by reasoning I am slowly get in Ito it I am 65 years old love art but I want to paint whit freedom in mi mind fallowing de rules of composition and color harmony but from a free mind and I know that is the child Whit in you that comes out again and play is not easy but not impossible and I think we can apply this in about daily life and will make as more happy .tank you for your videos

Yes 1miltond, I guess it's about finding your personal balance between what needed, wanted or required. But taking your responsibility can also mean your responsibility to keep your childlike playful nature alive. Just enjoy making art whatever your age is. Have a great day, Albert

Hi Jane, thanks. You mean Eugene Brands, the Dutch painter? I just love his artwork but not yet found a way to make a video about him. I hope I find my way soon. How did you find Eugene Brands? Albert

    • @janemorrow6672
      @janemorrow6672 4 года назад

Imperfect Paintings Hi Albert, oh yes I missed off the S. I found him because I was thinking of the CoBrA idea of painting in a child like way. I did your example in this video and then I was thinking about plants and wanted to find a cobra style tree image. I found one by Brands which is absolutely gorgeous so I’m going to use that as a starting point.

Yes, it can make it so much easier to have a starting point.
