Pettigrew was an incredibly powerful wizard in his own right. His fears are literally the ONLY things that ever hindered him. His own personality was the ONLY thing that ever hindered him. Which makes you wonder, just how effective he COULD'VE been, had he not been held down by them, when even held down by them, he was so powerful. Could he have potentially been as powerful as Voldemort or Dumbledore? As Grindelwald? Three of the most powerful wizards to have ever lived? It's honestly frightening to think about. Especially with the path he chose to take.
This is why people place Peter in Hufflepuff: “Said Slytherin, “We’ll teach just those whose ancestry’s purest.” Said Ravenclaw, “We’ll teach those whose intelligence is surest.” Said Gryffindor, “We’ll teach all those with brave deeds to their name.” Said Hufflepuff, “I’ll teach the lot and treat them just the same…..Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest and taught them all she knew,” This is the sorting hat's song. This is why people think that "left-overs" go to Hufflepuff. Those who are not pure, not inteligent, neither brave. I personaly am a Gryffindor and I don't think Peter was a coward. He was brave enough to restore the Dark Lord to power. He did it! He could have just lived his life peacefully as another family's pet rat. You think he did not knew that just being in the presence of Lord Voldemort would be life threatening? He is a Gryffindor people!!! :( I don't buy the "he was scared to die so he joined the deatheaters". I think he is a dark wizard by personal choice. He could have find another way out, but he chose to betray Lily and James. Don't make excuses for him.
"Peter was weak and should have been a Hufflepuff!" Oh, so you're saying the guy who sold out the people who cared about him deserves to be in the house that emphasizes loyalty and teamwork? Ok, this stigma against Hufflepuffs really needs to stop.
I see an argument for Hufflepuff not because he was weak, but because he didn't particularly fit into any of the other 3 houses and Helga Hufflepuff said that she'd "take all the rest." She was willing to educate and give a home to those who weren't particularly outstanding in any way. I think that having that as the foundation of the house generally makes it more accepting and helps to build the bonds of loyalty in a different way than the other houses do.
I totally agree with you on this I always said he wasn't as weak as people think it takes some balls to cut off your own finger and frame someone else and even bigger balls to cut off your own hand
Well done video my friend. Ive always said that most everyone underestimated wormtail because his actions were not noble. However, To quote Mr Olivander... "He who must not be named did great things. Terrible... Yes... But great..." Ive always thought that this could also be transered to wormtail as well. Who else do you know has brought back a powerful wizard as he did bringing Voldemort back? Let alone the skill and determination it took to become an animagi.
I agree with you 100% on this video. I have always thought Peter was much more powerful than he was given credit for. Not many wizards would be able to perform those spells you mentioned. On another note, Hufflepuff is a FANTASTIC house! We aren't weak at all. Helga Hufflepuff wanted to teach all she knew to any magical person, which speaks more highly of her than the other founders. Not that any of the others were bad or anything. Just a thought.
Peter was a powerful wizard, but he was afraid of dying when it seemed that Voldemort was winning during the first wizarding war which caused him to go over to Voldemort's side. He was able to keep his loyalty to Lord Voldemort a secret even to his friends but he may have been playing both sides in order to guarantee that he would be on the winning side. He did try to save his own skin after the Potter's deaths by faking his own death and living as a rat for 12 years in order to stay out of Azkaban to pay for his crimes.
Even the rest of the marauders (his friends for about 7 years) underestimated him. No one expected him to betray lily and james. He is more powerful then you think. Also I wish they added his redemption arc in the move.
What you said does make sense. I always considered him a coward not necessarily weak. I do believe he should’ve been sorted into slithering though because he was ambitious and selfish. He decided to join Voldemort because he believed Voldemort would gain him some type of power. Plus he was super sneaky
I am a proud Ravenclaw and I Fully agree with HPF when he addresses that Peter was unfit to be a Hufflepuff. they are loyal and hardworking. "LOYAL"! I feel like more people from every other house has crossed to Voldemorts side than any other house. I think of Hufflepuff as an underestimated sleeping giant.
this made me think of something peculiar: the Killing Curse is one of the most powerful pieces of magic, right? no counter-curse works nor does any shield charm yet if it strikes an object it instantly dissipates with no effect.... so one of the most efficacious pieces of magic can be stopped with one of muggle man's most rudimentary battle inventions in a shield? lol
I think it dissipates if it hits something alive or after flying some distance depending on the wizard's power. Also, the soul splitting is like a side effect of that particular curse. You could just do un "engorgio" spell on the enemy's tongue and watch them suffocate to death while unable to cast more verbal spells. And your soul would be as good as new. XD
I'm so glad you said that about my favorite house! I get so tired of people saying Hufflepuff is for the derpy wizards. Honestly, just because they were the least athletic... 🙄
Im number 3!!!!! I really love your videos .Keep up the good work!I also really liked Peter's character. He was very well written.I was genuinely sad when he died in the books .The way he died showed that there was still good in him and that he still felt remorse for what he did to james and lily.
Agree this guy was way more then what a lot of people give him credit for. He was, together with Bela, the closest and most key of Vold followers. And in fact, he was above Bela in making things happen. Bela was a first line fighter and all that. But Peter was behind infiltrating the Order of the Phoenix, the killing of James and Lily, bringing back Vold. Peter is behind all the big events like you said. And its clear he is the main force besides Vold in all those events. Character wise, its harder to know exactly what the author was thinking. Its possible he did have the good traits. Its questionable if he did things out of fear or out of a desire to have power. This will be personal view. I view him much more as the kind of personality who was more obscure and less shiny, despite having talents and ambition. Because he lacked a bit on the social presence and political skills, he had to follow people like James and Sirius just to hang out with cool kids and not be bullied. But I think as soon as he realized how much power Vold could have, he switched sides just because he wanted his own power trip. He strikes me as the sort of people who have what it takes, they want it, but they just cant be natural about it and they resent others who are over achievers. He could be harboring some real nasty feelings for James and Sirius because we know he can be very deceitful. The hat thing to me is in line with this and much like you said. He was too much a misfit to be on the other houses. For instance, he lacked the confidence that bullied Luna always had. Peter gives the vibe he would not have stood being bullied at all.
Dude, your videos are bloody amazing!!! You've been able to change my mind about soo many things and I've learnt soo much! Thankyou soo much for the creation of this channel!!!😁💛
People keep asking why Peter was sorted into Gryffindor. Bro, it takes great courage and bravery to betray your best friends to death, frame your best friend about that, hide for 12 years and then run behind a powerful figure just to protect your unworthy ass. No wonder why his animagi form was a rat ( = slang for “betray or snitch on”)
I always thought that Peter maybe had the potential to be a true and good gryffindor but the luxury of having powerful friends to hide behind prevented that potential to develop.
What is really weird is that Fred and George never noticed Peter on the map. They must have known from the news or from their father who Peter was or at least must have heard his name. I don't believe for a moment that they never watched their brother on the map. I also wonder how could they not have noticed Voldemort in the form of a book or as a part of Quirrell's body because it was actually him back then. It was another one of the inconsistencies in the book.
The only thing about Peter that is confusing for me is how in the world was he sorted into Gryffindor he’s literally the biggest coward ever I think considering his personality traits he should’ve been in Slytherin but that’s just my opinion :)
True. It was too obvious, if you ask me. When someone ratted the Potters out, Remus should've thought of Peter. Unfortunately, he didn't trust Sirius much, either. If he did, he would've defended Sirius and not swallowed the whole press release of him killing Peter and those Muggles in cold blood.
Ok. You made good points! Now a question towards those. Where would he have been without the marauders? It took him longer to be an animagis then the others. And as you said, other skills at their insistence. Would he still be powerful, had he not been hanging on the coattails of james, Sirius, and Remus?
Yes, I always understood that he was powerful, & actually in the right house, for the reasons you said. Long before his fears led him to join Voldemort, he was accepted as a Marauder. He might not have been a genius, but he had to be above average intelligence, have a knack for reading situations/people for ensuring his survival, & willing to work hard for what he wanted. His motives were selfish, since he was wanting to be powerful in order to not feel weak & afraid, but his work ethic was good. He became friends with & tutored by the "cool kids", worked hard to be as good as them in private but still maintain his scared/meek image, which was because he realized the power he got by continuing his life as someone not worthy of paying attention to. He had people fooled into thinking he was not a threat. The only problem was the other Marauders knew his power but had let their guard down too because they thought he truly cared for them. Instead he only cared about himself, he was a sociopath & only cared for what he could gain out of a situation.
I don’t think he'll even get past the riddles at the entrance to the Ravenclaw dorms. And remember that time when Peter couldn't even answer the question regarding werewolves and Sirius had to remind him that he'd been running around with one for quite sometime? He was cunning but he wasn't very smart. At least not academically. 😉
Sirius even says that before Lily and James died Peter had been Voldemort's informant for a year. And I think the reason Voldemort made Peter do demeaning things like clean Snape's house was because he knew Peter wasn't really loyal to him or anyone, had only joined the Death Eaters to stop Voldemort from killing him, had only gone back to Voldemort because either Sirius and Lupin would kill him or he'd be either sent to Azkaban or given the Dementor's Kiss. Even though he helped Voldemort get a new body Voldemort knew there might come a point where Peter would probably betray him and try to defect back to the Order of the Phoenix to save his own ass which is why he enchanted the silver hand to strangle Peter to death if he was ever disloyal to him again. Voldemort would have preferred it if someone like Bellatrix or Crouch Jr had discovered him in Albania because they were loyal. Not someone like Peter who was just scared and saw Voldemort as a protector.
"he wasn't exactly cunning either" - sorry, but didn't you just show that he was? He definitely had more cunning than courage. So he should have been in Slytherin. Is it known if he was a pureblood? If not that's maybe why Slyterhin "rejected" him and also why most of the other death eaters thought so low of him.
fun fact originally in an early draft of the GOB Peter was going to impersonate Enid Pettigrew the DADA professor who might've been Peter's mother furthermore Enid was originally going to be the Divination professor before Sybil Tralawney was chosen
Never really realised that Peter also never really seems to lust for power. He never tries to be 'above his place'. He was content with being alive, nothing more. Tries to stay alive during the wizarding war; helps the baddies. Tries to be alive after baddies lost the war; live as a litteral pet rat for years. Wizardwar part two prep work; go to baddies who kept me alive last time, oh no big baddie needs to be kept alive to keep me alive, thus, make him be alive.
Also, he survives the 2nd war, in the end he survived, he survived James, Sirius and Lupin... and I always considered him as a rat... I guess he knows how to be forgettable
In an early draft of Goblet of Fire, Pettigrew taught DADA and possibly impersonated Mad-Eye Moody instead of Barty Crouch Jr. given how powerful he is, how do you guys think he would’ve pulled those 2 things off?
Talented but not traditionally "accomplished," Pettigrew was a *potentially* great wizard who squandered his gifts on cowardice in the same way that Lockhart squandered his on vanity. He's proof that inherent power isn't necessarily a mark of one's character.
I believe Peter could've been in Slytherin. He showed no loyalty and always turned his back on others and used any means of ensuring his survival. But he was brave for the people who helped him and looked up. But it is also possible he chose Gryffindor over Slytherin
Thank you so much for making this video! I am going to show this to my friends, I have said that he was a powerful wizard many times. Are usually just used the argument about getting away with his betrayal and blaming it on Siris black. And I also thought that he was really cruel to just kill Cedric Diggory so nonchalantly. I do think he was ambitious enough for Slytherin but he was it a way courageous enough to do the things he did, first he was courageous enough because he had the Marauders to back him up then he had the death eaters and Voldemort to back him up.
Yes, I do agree with you. I do wonder what people think it takes to purposely slice off your own hand. Not only that but continuing the ritual after doing so means, that person has some serious fortitude.
I agree that Peter was a powerful wizard all of the spells he was able to perfect, and the fact that he was absolutely necessary to Voldemort 's return he cast the spell You did an excellent job of explaining how powerful Peter really was thank you for sharing this.
It is indeed true of what Remus has said before that fear makes people do terrible things. And this is one good leading example in the case of Peter Pettigrew. The character itself is a very powerful character. He was highly ambitious not wanting to die which explains to what he did. He was intelligent in planning to achieve what he desired. He is loyal...only to himself. He was brave to do all the evils he did. And he was also one of the driving tool that put so many sad endings to many people's life. Last but not least, his perseverance was a great weapon in succeeding to all the plans that lead towards the rise of Voldemort.
Well Dean, after hearing your thoughts on the subject in this vid, I have to agree with you... It takes certainly a lot to behave as P.P. did. And I would never place him in Huff because I am a Huff. Hugs to you and thanks for this enlightening vid. 💞
This is one of your best character analysis! I agree with you, he belongs in Griffindor!! JK knew that too, but she is so all over the place right now that in the new book editions she put him in the cover of Slytherin! How dare you JK!
I never did one of these sorting quizzes so I don't know what house I belong to, but wormtail should be in Slytherin. Maybe he want ambitious but he was resourceful, I'll give him that.
I think it takes a great degree of courage to cut off ones finger and then 13 years later; proceed to cut off ones entire hand. And in a twisted way; it does take some degree of bravery to betray and sacrifice the ones you value most.
I think Peter ought to have been in House Slytherin. He is extremely cunning and resourceful. I suppose he lacked any real ambition beyond self-preservation, but he wasn't loyal enough to be a Hufflepuff, nor chivalrous and honourable enough to have been a Gryffindor and I don't quite think he was enlightened or eccentric enough to be a Ravenclaw.
Has nobody ever heard that Peter Pettigrew should have been a Slytherin because he's always looking for his own advantage and quite cunning since he cut off his own finger to pretend his own death. He's not really a Gryffindor because he not really brave. As you said, he is too selfish and unfair to be a Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw doesn't make sense for him because he's not that clever and more importantly not keen enough to increase his knowlegde. I think Slytherin does really make sense as Peter Pettigrew is cunning, looking for his own advantage and why exactly isn't he ambitious? Another question is: does he have to be ambitious to get sorted Into Slytherin house, I mean, you don't need to have all characteristics to be sorted anywhere, do you?
Peter Pettigrew should've been a Hufflepuff? Nope. We don't accept someone like him in our house. Why people constantly taking Hufflepuff as the worst house in Hogwarts? Just because we don't show off our abilities doesn't mean we can't compete and lack of abilities.
I think Peter is just the most misunderstood character ever written. He is very powerful but he comes off as weak. He seems like this evil person, but he is not evil, he is just in fear.
I have to ask this, as I don't know if it's ever been answered, we know Snape didn't become a double agent till after the dark lord started to Target Lily, how did he not know that wurmtail was the actual traitor to the potters and why did he not tell Dumbledore when he switched sides
„Peter should have been a Hufflepuff!“ Excuse me??? Peter - the traitor - should have been in the house that favours loyalty?? WTF??

This is why people place Peter in Hufflepuff:
“Said Slytherin, “We’ll teach just those whose ancestry’s purest.”
Said Ravenclaw, “We’ll teach those whose intelligence is surest.”
Said Gryffindor, “We’ll teach all those with brave deeds to their name.”
Said Hufflepuff, “I’ll teach the lot and treat them just the same…..Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest and taught them all she knew,”
This is the sorting hat's song.
I don't buy the "he was scared to die so he joined the deatheaters". I think he is a dark wizard by personal choice. He could have find another way out, but he chose to betray Lily and James. Don't make excuses for him.
Thank you, I came here to make the point about the Sorting Hat's song. But you already did it for me :)
Hufflepuff is for the loyal not peter
He is a ravenclaw but he personally chose gryfindor
@Zack Triple
no ravenclaw is the next option if his blood was not accepted.
"Peter was weak and should have been a Hufflepuff!"
Oh, so you're saying the guy who sold out the people who cared about him deserves to be in the house that emphasizes loyalty and teamwork?
Daniele Bonadeo because he cut off part of his arm. He couldn’t cut off the arm with the dark mark
Severus Snape and the Marauders is such an amazing fan film!
People always said He isnt brave, to overcome your fears is beiing brave and everybody has different fears....so he is brave in his own way.
Actually I never thought about how powerful he really was. I am loving that you upload so interesting videos ❤️
yeah jk kinda belittled him somewhat.. it's just going on about how weak and cowardly he was forever when in reality he was actually pretty skilled..
Even the rest of the marauders (his friends for about 7 years) underestimated him. No one expected him to betray lily and james. He is more powerful then you think. Also I wish they added his redemption arc in the move.
Pettigrew should've been in Slytherin, considering he was a Hat Stall and Slytherin was one of the Houses the hat was stuck on.
To be honest, I never gave peter much thought. However I must say that your points are spot on...Especially about the house he was sorted in.
this made me think of something peculiar: the Killing Curse is one of the most powerful pieces of magic, right? no counter-curse works nor does any shield charm yet if it strikes an object it instantly dissipates with no effect.... so one of the most efficacious pieces of magic can be stopped with one of muggle man's most rudimentary battle inventions in a shield? lol
Mmmm....but in that case wouldn't it clothes be the same as a shield? It's un object.
omg i was about to comment rhis
I think it dissipates if it hits something alive or after flying some distance depending on the wizard's power.
Also, the soul splitting is like a side effect of that particular curse. You could just do un "engorgio" spell on the enemy's tongue and watch them suffocate to death while unable to cast more verbal spells. And your soul would be as good as new. XD
Blake Nestell saw a theory video on this the other day lol.
best fly I never understood what “soul splitting” even meant, unless you’re creating a horcrux this doesn’t seem I have any real effect
I'm so glad you said that about my favorite house! I get so tired of people saying Hufflepuff is for the derpy wizards. Honestly, just because they were the least athletic... 🙄
He was living on borrowed time as soon as he framed Sirius. In the end, he was a pitiful man with no real "power" to speak of.
I will take the word of his master:)
THANK YOU for standing up for Hufflepuff!
DAMN! Excellent, very astute observations, resulting in an Awesome video!
No wonder why his animagi form was a rat ( = slang for “betray or snitch on”)
Love all your videos! Thanks for making them
I always thought that Peter maybe had the potential to be a true and good gryffindor but the luxury of having powerful friends to hide behind prevented that potential to develop.
A very apt summation of Peter Pettigrew's character. Keep Up The Good Work
This is a great video I really enjoy the information that you gave me so I don't have to beat the book
The only thing about Peter that is confusing for me is how in the world was he sorted into Gryffindor he’s literally the biggest coward ever I think considering his personality traits he should’ve been in Slytherin but that’s just my opinion :)
It's interesting that none of Pettigrew's friends thought anything of the fact that his Animagus form was a rat.
Well, rats are cute and smart animals.)
Thanks once again for the video!
Ok. You made good points! Now a question towards those. Where would he have been without the marauders? It took him longer to be an animagis then the others. And as you said, other skills at their insistence. Would he still be powerful, had he not been hanging on the coattails of james, Sirius, and Remus?
I really enjoyed this explanation of Peter and your explanation of House Hufflepuff.
Instead he only cared about himself, he was a sociopath & only cared for what he could gain out of a situation.
one thing i really find funny is that i saw that peter was powerful enough to perform the killing curse correctly while goyle wasn't.
I always love hearing about the Marauders. It’s like listening to my dad talk about his college days and buddies.
Your videos are pure gold!
I think I can speak for Slytherin and say we don’t want him either, apparently you’re going to have to take one for the team, Ravenclaw.
Hell no, get that freak away from us.
Peter can join thanos
I agree as a slytherin
I’m a simple man. I see that this channel had uploaded, I click
Love the videos dean highly Harry potter educational 😊
Not someone like Peter who was just scared and saw Voldemort as a protector.
that's pretty much what I've said for years.
"he wasn't exactly cunning either" - sorry, but didn't you just show that he was? He definitely had more cunning than courage.
So he should have been in Slytherin. Is it known if he was a pureblood? If not that's maybe why Slyterhin "rejected" him and also why most of the other death eaters thought so low of him.
the hat was just as drawn between gryffindor and slytherin with him as he was whit harry..
fun fact originally in an early draft of the GOB Peter was going to impersonate Enid Pettigrew the DADA professor who might've been Peter's mother furthermore Enid was originally going to be the Divination professor before Sybil Tralawney was chosen
I love your videos keep it up!
Great video!
I don't know why but hearing this guys opinions about the stuff I love the most makes my day!
3:05 And Rowling mentions how much help it took from James and Sirius for him to accomplish it.
If you look back to the books, Harry himself never underestimated Peter's power or his capacities for magic. He didn't see Peter as weak.
In an early draft of Goblet of Fire, Pettigrew taught DADA and possibly impersonated Mad-Eye Moody instead of Barty Crouch Jr. given how powerful he is, how do you guys think he would’ve pulled those 2 things off?
I don't see him as being a good teacher
Never underestimate the coward and the lazy, they are often very good at finding unexpected ways to get what they want.
Good points when you look at the facts it’s amazing how his powers are overlooked
where is that clip showing the younger Marauders at 2:12 from?
Imagine how different the story would have been if Peter’s Dad pulled out
Lmao
Or if Peter's got the hang of that coat hanger.
Yes, I do agree with you. I do wonder what people think it takes to purposely slice off your own hand. Not only that but continuing the ritual after doing so means, that person has some serious fortitude.
I agree that Peter was a powerful wizard all of the spells he was able to perfect, and the fact that he was absolutely necessary to Voldemort 's return he cast the spell
You did an excellent job of explaining how powerful Peter really was thank you for sharing this.
Very good video!! I agree 100%! I just recently talked about this with a friend :)
You've really touched on the essence of the Hufflepuff house in this video. Thank you!
Well Dean, after hearing your thoughts on the subject in this vid, I have to agree with you... It takes certainly a lot to behave as P.P. did. And I would never place him in Huff because I am a Huff. Hugs to you and thanks for this enlightening vid. 💞
Is it me but petter it like naval longbottom as he lured a lot from the treeo
This quite surprised me because I just watched goblet of fire and was confused by his power at the climate of the film lmao
Good examination!
This is one of your best character analysis! I agree with you, he belongs in Griffindor!! JK knew that too, but she is so all over the place right now that in the new book editions she put him in the cover of Slytherin! How dare you JK!
Love the eerie music man!
I've been trying to find it lol
I never did one of these sorting quizzes so I don't know what house I belong to, but wormtail should be in Slytherin. Maybe he want ambitious but he was resourceful, I'll give him that.
Yes, it is truly an insult to say, that Wormtail belong in Hufflepuff. No loyalty - no Hufflepuff.
I think it takes a great degree of courage to cut off ones finger and then 13 years later; proceed to cut off ones entire hand. And in a twisted way; it does take some degree of bravery to betray and sacrifice the ones you value most.
You should do a video ranking the marauders power/strength.
yay a new video!
Peter is really a Nomad who’s admiration vastly outweighs his attributes.
I love what you said about Hufflepuffs. He is/was NEVER good enough for that house. Great video.
3:00 there is no link in the description
Just because we don't show off our abilities doesn't mean we can't compete and lack of abilities.
where did u get these parts of 2:20m from ? are they real ones
can you make a video of what if Peter Pettegrew was sorted into ravenclaw?
I've always wondered how he ended up as a Weasley family pet in his rat form and why exactly he chose them in particular.
What movie are those scenes from??? The younger maruaders?
No one doubts his skills, just his loyalty and his courage
I think Peter is just the most misunderstood character ever written. He is very powerful but he comes off as weak. He seems like this evil person, but he is not evil, he is just in fear.
I sometimes think we sort too soon. -Albus Dumbledore
I have to ask this, as I don't know if it's ever been answered, we know Snape didn't become a double agent till after the dark lord started to Target Lily, how did he not know that wurmtail was the actual traitor to the potters and why did he not tell Dumbledore when he switched sides
Don’t judge someone based on appearance but no one listens
