Fixing stuff on the farm is what I call ‘quality of life improvements’. To go from having a gate that you have to lift and carry to open and close, then getting it fixed…feels like every aspect of chores is easier!
"I wanna put them on there pretty bad." Man, I'm right there with you! I see something lacking like that on someone else's stuff and it takes all of my willpower to not fix it. Good job on the gate repair.
Laid off Rig Welder here, it’s kind of hard when you have to go back to the kind of work you did before you broke out but it’s still fun i’m doing the same thing, keep up the good work bro stay happy life is good man thanks for the videos
Fun video Austin! That fence work does look like it would be a lot of fun just being out there on the land on a beautiful day doing some good honest work and having fun with your tools! Be blessed man!!!
Mate, at 6:46. Sped up video crawling under the fence to get to the other side made me crack up. You got a nice rig. I like those fence jacks. Well done. Your videos are relaxing to watch and better than television.
Austin, another good video on PIDDLING. Love to piddle. Mostly all I do any more with my welder and torch. Getting very hard for me to see the crack I'm welding. Eyesight for welding getting real bad. Hey, let me mention one thing for the guys burning thru the top cap. I didn't hear you say anything about the technique. Run your bead on the pipe and let the puddle flow over to the edge of the cap. You'll still have a good weld but not burn thru. If you're still burning thru adjust your heat. Remember weld on the pipe and let the puddle run over on the cap about 1/16th to 1/8th inch. Practice on a piece of flat iron and weld a piece of 16 gauge to it. Weld on the flat iron and let the puddle run up against the edge of the 16 gauge. Easy to master and you won't burn thru. Weld on buddy. You'll be safe out there.
I have to say. I love these videos. I like the ones on the pipeline but I like the odd ball jobs a lot. Thanks for the videos. I tried to make a couple myself and boy is it hard to edit all that stuff.
Awesome DW. Thank you i am new to the welding / fence install stuff. That really helps about how you donthe caps, please keep sharing to tips, your the best DW , heres some advice Profits are better then wages Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw. Ya buddy 😅
Fencing/corral feedlot welding is something a lot of welders don't do or won't do. I personally enjoy the hell out of it. In the middle of BFE. Nice to see how others weld Corral's. The over and over again is what I find most people don't like. Nice work Austin.
Something so relaxing about watching welding videos. I am thinking about switch degrees (24yrs old) & getting an associates in code welding. Can anyone chime in on your thought
I haven't welded since spring break started because of the the whole Coronavirus and I was almost done with welding school too, guess I'll have to wait a little while to finish school and hit the road
When I was in the Guthrie Job Corp I was in the welding program. Worked my way up to shop GM, but as the GM I was tasked with building 590’ of custom fence. Learned a lot from that.
Austin, where did you get your ruler clamp that doubles as a torch guide? I saw you use it in the video fixing the drawbar on that scraper. I'd love to have one of those guys at work.
What rings were you welding for those wire guides? I got a few rotten wood posts and a ton of 1.5" galv pipe I can drive in with the tractor bucket. But I didn't cus I thought attaching the existing wire fence would be a pain.. Then I saw you welding those rings on.. Genius!...:)
For this sort of welding here it is hard to go past E6012 rods, All position including vertical down, clean weld and almost no splatter to worry about cleaning.
Absolutely! It is one of the most diverse trades out there ... involved in everything from new fabrication to repairs, shop jobs to cross country work, seasonal work to multi-year contracts .... not to mention all the different welding processes and the diversity within each process.
Jordan Collins. Not a career. A career is something globalists want people to believe as a slave. Welding as a way of life which you enjoy is always a better option. Do something you like doing. Take pride in your work and have a regular clientele giving you more work and giving you praise for a good job. Job satisfaction is what you need to strive for. You love your job it's good for you, your well being. My small comment.
Great work there Austin, just found your channel lately as I'm currently fabricating gates and pens on my own farm. I notice you don't spare the steel, I generally go no more than 2 and half foot in the ground when putting up posts. What's the cost of steel per pound or kilogram over in the states. It's currently around €1.09 ($1.26) per kg for the general retailer here in Ireland
I like to put my post in the ground as deep as possible, with in reason of course. I don’t like seeing fence that has leaned over, over the years. I want it to be solid solid. Last my lifetime and my kids.
I am a cow man and build/weld all my own corrals and corners. Those fence jacks are an awesome idea. usually im out there with some wood blocks trying to level a gate. I can't stick weld pipe caps for shit tho, always burn through the cap. Maybe i just buy some thin cheap caps or something.
i made me an attatchment to hook on these posts so i can rest my left arm and hand to steady it.i've done quite a bit of post and gate work for some of these drs around here, you can get on my facebook site and see some of the work i have done,i started out in memphis and had 8 contractors when the oil crisis hit in 74,they all quit building except for one
Mr. Ross, could I trouble you for some expertise. I do similar work around my ranch with new and old materials (like the piece you cut your bracing). I use a Victor Ranger oxy/acet unit set at 5 acet and 40 oxy. My constant issue is the materials always slag up bad. Tried different settings to no avail. No pro like you so I'm sure there is some issue with my technique. Would appreciate any advice you would share. Take care.
isn't it wearing on you those posts by the repaired gates uncapped ?? :) - Very nice work. You make it look so easy. I do have question: are those special tanks you have? Mounting them horizontal doesn't change the gas flow? Next time I got to mathensons I'm going to ask them about that.
I watched one Of your videos of you and Kayla and you said that her truck is deleted and your truck is just lifted with tires have you recently deleted your truck because before I deleted my dodge it did not sound as loud as yours or did you delete it and put an exhaust on it?
Cap those post. I've seen 4" post split right down the seam. I've also seen 6" x 1/2" square tubing swelled at the bottom because they didn't cap it. It's amazing what water and freezing tempatures can do. CAP EVERYTHING.
Just wondering. Why do u use a pancake hood. Do you just feel more comfortable? Can you make a vid on why you like pancakes and pros and cons vs other types of hoods?
Great videos. Wondering of you can make a video explaining the different rods. I have only used 6013 and 7018. Would love to hear what you think of the different rods
Hey bud I’m worried your going to have to get out of the pipeline ...there were lots of job last year and you couldn’t find work and now that oil has hit rock bottom.. !!??!
Hey Austin; How do you deal with magnetized pipe? In the past I have wrapped the ground cable around the pipe. My portable welder is only DC. What is the deal with capping these posts? Is it only for appearance? Thanks Austin! I’m welding up H braces today with 2 3/8 pipe and 8 3/4 posts.
Hey there Ross. I know today is new video day cuss it's Friday Friday lol ha ha ha. Want to ask what size number of leads you running off out that Lincoln? Ever talked about best brand and size to use and why for which size of machines running and for kind of jobs? Thinking about getting a new set 100ft each one bust not sure the size either 1/0, bigger or smaller. Got 50ft each one right now on a 225 RANGER lincoln 2 gauge excelence and frying up much more had them for 3 yrs now never did like them. Any advice? Looking forward to the new video today.
@@arosswelding thanks for the fast response. You sure are quick lol must be that full mug of Joe your drinking on lol. Awesome. That's what I'm looking at just now. Going through the welding leads chart. Ft and amps go with what. What's the differences of 1/0 and #1 besides the diameter wide of each in thickness?
Thanks for the video. I’ve been watching your channel lately. Currently building a pipe fence and just started the welding today. Do you have any tips on keeping the saddles square with the corner posts? Any tips on making gate hinges(like a sleeve hinge with zert)? Some one should write a book on this crap ya know... thanks!
My uncle ran around with this old truck driver and he always talked like you do saying “come on” lol do spend a lot of time on a CB ? JK Thanks for the videos come on!
If you are needing some more work we got a bunch of pipe fence jobs lined up this year. Doing a lot of horizontal and angle braces. Would sure be glad to give back to all you have helped me with over the years!

You start welding the hinges on the gate and go to time lapse, it's like "that boy on that high speed chicken feed, come on"

What size torch tip do you use and settings

No, not yet.
Have you considered joining the welders & pipefitter’s local. Them boys out west do big jobs!
Where in Oklahoma are you? I'm outside Paris, Texas, and need a fence across my frontage.
Thanks Austin!!!
Do your welding gloves shrink ? Just wondering why mine always shrink any advice
I always shrink my index finger on my left glove. I think it's from getting too close to the heat
Elk skin is supposed to not shrink, kinda expensive but worth it
Dirt Moves yes mine always shrink I use Tillman gloves
They do a little over time but I just try to keep my hands far as I can away from the fire.
The elk skin gloves will shrink just like all the others when you get them too close to the fire , I have good luck with the Tillman 750
U ever ben to the the tiger kings place before down there in Oklahoma
No
