Tip for the future ive worked in commercial tires for 20ish years. When i get customers with trailers i never recommend trailer tires honestly not sure why they even make them they usually last a thousand miles then blow. Instead i sell and all steel load range E or F truck tire that will last nearly forever. Also grand design makes the best trailers money can buy they are built like tanks
That’s exactly what i did, bought the highest load range all steel tire i could find. Tires are way cheaper than having an accident or worse, getting hurt changing a tire at 3:00 am on the interstate.
I am hoping to get into our local at the ship yard. I have an interview coming up in a few weeks. Do you have advice for the interview that might help me stand out from the crowd?
I agree. I’ll probably never have a truck this nice again. Had to do it once. Each rig I’ve owned had over 250,000 miles on it when i retired it. I hope to get closer to 300,000 to 350,000 on this one. Sitting at 161,000 currently.
The bed is a custom built welding bed built by Hot Shot Specialty welding in Dallas Ft Worth. My truck has leaf spring rear suspension with 2” lift blocks and air lift air bags. I have an entire video covering the specifics of the truck and a video on the bed.
I love your truck and it looks awesome with the camper on the back and what made you pick the colour white for the truck and I just subscribe to your channel
Thanks for the compliment!! I appreciate it! I picked white because in the summer nothing stays cooler than a white truck. I’ve had red, black grey and white trucks and by far the easiest to keep clean and cool was a white truck.
I’m sure it takes a little weight off the front of the truck, but If i would scale the truck before i put the welder, bottles and leads then hook to the camper it would have more weight on the front than without.
Question from a bumper pull camper person. Why not convert your camper to a gooseneck style hitch rather then fifth wheel? Just curious is all. Safe travels
I had that setup on my last truck but couldn’t on this one for two reasons. 1. I couldn’t find a gooseneck adapter short enough. The camper would ride way too high in the front with the truck being lifted and the ball being higher than a typical factory location. 2. The gooseneck ball is too close to the welding machine. The camper would hit if i turn too sharp. Pulling a regular gooseneck is fine because the neck isn’t as wide as a camper. Thanks for the question! Hope i answered it.
Cool rig. I've got a 22 mega cab 1 ton dually and I like you work bed. Can you share where you got it from? Oh, I noticed the ram emblem at the back, sets a part. Thks for any info.
I got my start working for a mechanical contractor welding uphill. It’s definitely a tough road and you almost always need to know somebody in the industry especially when work is slow.
Make sure you subscribe! I plan to do an entire video of my path to becoming a welder and things everyone could do better or not at all in their career.
Yes, that’s the plan. I have to work out some details with what is allowed and what isn’t on the job site, but my intent is to cover everything that we do on the job!
I was saying unpin handle, unpin handle. Its not going to latch. Mount your trailer plug up under the bed at rear with opening pointed down. Thats how i had one mounted on old welding rig i bought. Curt 58145 trailer plug has been good for me. 10 years and counting so far
It’s more than one item, but i would say a toolbox with an assortment of tools like screwdrivers, pilers, wire strippers, socket set and a utility knife.
Those are really nice hitches! The issue is that the camper gets too close to the welding machine when i turn if i use the gooseneck ball. I could actually hit the welder with the 5th wheel hitch where it is now. Like most issues with a truck set up like this, space is a premium and a hitch that i use very seldom gets pretty low on the priority list. Thanks for the suggestion. I plan on using a hitch like that in the future on my next rig.
I totally see that. Didn’t occur to me to take that in to the question. But I would like to say. Very nice set up. And as for people saying your hitch is set too far back. Not at all. What are you sitting about 12/16 inches off center of the axle? People don’t realize how short your flat bed is and take in to account how much weight you have in front of the axle with your welder and other equipment.
Thanks a lot! It’s nice to hear when someone understands how it all works. You’re right in the ballpark, I’ve never measured it, but it’s pretty close to 16 inches if i had to guess. I honestly never worried about it because it has never been an issue. It pulls great so why change anything. It helps that it’s a pretty light camper. If i ever bought anything bigger i would definitely look into changing some things up. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really do appreciate it.
I may look into that. The 5th wheel hitch hasn’t been enough of a pain to change things up yet. My next truck will be set up so i can use the gooseneck ball.

That’s exactly what i did, bought the highest load range all steel tire i could find. Tires are way cheaper than having an accident or worse, getting hurt changing a tire at 3:00 am on the interstate.
Great video
Thank you!
Fuck sakes right as I'm ready to drop the pressure ticket dream this guy shows up lol. Nice work brother
lol thanks a lot!!

Did this on the building end of pipeline in the 70s and 80d. Motels and small campers in West Virginia
Thanks for the comment!
You travel with those regulators attached to your bottles?
Around the job site or from the house to the farm yes. Down the interstate or on the weekends, no.
I am hoping to get into our local at the ship yard. I have an interview coming up in a few weeks. Do you have advice for the interview that might help me stand out from the crowd?
This my 1st time on your channel, so you travel to all the pipelines and just stay where you work? Dang what a setup
Usually not. I’m able to stay within a couple hours of the house most of the time. Any further and i take the camper.
That’s a lot of money into a truck, but it’s part of your work so it makes sense. How many miles do you expect to get out of it?
I agree. I’ll probably never have a truck this nice again. Had to do it once. Each rig I’ve owned had over 250,000 miles on it when i retired it. I hope to get closer to 300,000 to 350,000 on this one. Sitting at 161,000 currently.
Damn that welding rig is sexy
Thanks a lot!
You guys testing anymore welders by chance?
mint set up
Thanks!
Lovely truck bed. Nice to see someone take good care of everything. That way, it takes care of you. I’ll sub until the day welding becomes political.
Thanks for the compliment and for subscribing! I really do appreciate it!
How come you don’t have to run any grease on that plate? Does it bind up when you are turning at all? Sweet rig by the way!
What bed is that? did your truck come with coil rears? what Air bag system do you have for the truck?

I love it and I watch every video and liked every video too keep up the great work ❤
Thanks a lot! I appreciate that!
I trust you when you say it pulls great with the hitch so far back but do you think it lifts the front end up at all?
I’m sure it takes a little weight off the front of the truck, but If i would scale the truck before i put the welder, bottles and leads then hook to the camper it would have more weight on the front than without.
The big bumper helps keep some weight up front too compared to stock.
These trucks are designed for the front to raise with a load, just check factory alignment specs and you'll understand
Answered perfect. Makes sense. I always forget about the swing because I don’t ever think of it
Have you considered a Goosebox with an offset ball? I've used those for years. They have the same offset as a fifth wheel. @@DownhillWelder300
Thanks for sharing
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Cool rig. I've got a 22 mega cab 1 ton dually and I like you work bed. Can you share where you got it from? Oh, I noticed the ram emblem at the back, sets a part. Thks for any info.
Thanks! Unfortunately the guy that built this bed no longer builds beds. He was the best! Thanks for the question, i appreciate it.
And thank you for the antisieze.
I thank myself every time i take a bolt out or a nut off! Hahaha
@DownhillWelder300 That's how j am with my grader. Saves time and money.
I've been welding for about 7 years now and working in a steel shop and fab shop and was wondering how to get started in the pipe welding industry?
I got my start working for a mechanical contractor welding uphill. It’s definitely a tough road and you almost always need to know somebody in the industry especially when work is slow.
how did you get started into welding and pipeline im in high school looking to start
Make sure you subscribe! I plan to do an entire video of my path to becoming a welder and things everyone could do better or not at all in their career.
Will you be recording on the job as well? hope to see those videos if so! Good luck bro, stay safe.
Yes, that’s the plan. I have to work out some details with what is allowed and what isn’t on the job site, but my intent is to cover everything that we do on the job!
Just change your pin box to a gooseneck. You already have the ball on truck. No more messing with 5th wheel plate.
That would put the camper too close to the welding machine. I wouldn’t be able to turn enough to park the thing in a campground.
I was saying unpin handle, unpin handle. Its not going to latch.
Mount your trailer plug up under the bed at rear with opening pointed down. Thats how i had one mounted on old welding rig i bought.
Curt 58145 trailer plug has been good for me. 10 years and counting so far
LOL I knew there would be some people.
I’m definitely going to try that plug. I have a few trailers i need to change the plugs on. Thanks for the tip.
Why not swap the pin box for a goose neck goose box? Eliminates the need to carry around the heavy 5th wheel set up
The gooseneck ball would put the camper too close to the welding machine when i turn.
If you could name one must have item to have traveling in a camper what would it be?
It’s more than one item, but i would say a toolbox with an assortment of tools like screwdrivers, pilers, wire strippers, socket set and a utility knife.
Whered you get that airbag kit? Been looking for one just like and havent found it but ive probably just overlooked it
I’m pretty sure i got it on Amazon. It’s airlift brand. Wireless controller would be what i searched for.
I just subscribed, dont let me down! Lol.
Me too😂
I’ll try my best not to.
I was wondering why you don’t swap out the hitch on your trailer to use your goose neck ball for your trailer. Gen Y makes a great one
@@DownhillWelder300 could use b and w offset to bring it further back?
I may look into that. The 5th wheel hitch hasn’t been enough of a pain to change things up yet. My next truck will be set up so i can use the gooseneck ball.
Should replace your pin box with the gooseneck one so you don't have to worry about bolting your 5th wheel when you wanna move the camper
I would love to but that would put my camper too close to the welder and would hit any time i turned very sharp at all.
Good vids 🎉🎉
Thanks a lot!
Have you ever tried nolox, heat will disfigure the terminals nolox disapates the heat
I’ll give it a try! Thanks!
