What I like from your channel: everything is shown and explained in a simple way for us mortals that are trying to learn this craft Thank you very much!
Just so you know. The sucker rod jig just saved me hours on my pipe fence installation. I just finished the first section tonight....so much easier to manage by yourself! No measuring and nice straight rod runs , YES SIR! THANK YOU!
YES! the worst thing about not walking a job is the unforeseen job costs that weren't factored in. seen tens of thousands of dollars lost on a single job because no one did a pre inspection of the site
I admire how you don't skimp on the plate on your hinges, it makes for a much better installation, you don't have to worry about the hinges when you leave, I also like how you used the weed eater to clean up before you started, it always best to start out with as clean a work area as possible, it's safer and quicker, good job, keep it up.
Great videos!! Well done sir! I really appreciate the "details" of your work. Explaining them and showing them up close is the most important thing for us newbies.
Horse shoes good for the top of your rod jigs. And you could have used your drop off on your sucker rod to put uprights halfway between post to keep sucker rod straighter with no sags. Good job. Like the way you put sucker rod on center on your end posts next to gates. Would help keep cows from getting cut up and save time on beveling and grinding ends of sucker rods.
I have hung my fair share of rods on cattle pens and also had to fix someone else's work more times than I would like, that being said, I never span a 3/4 rod more than 6', 5/8 rod no more than 4' and 7/8 rod no more than 8'. Sucker rod is extremely strong as long as it is being pulled straight vertically and very weak when laid horizontally, just cut a rod a foot longer than the top rail is high, shove the rod in the ground and weld it to the top rail and then weld the horizontal rods to it.
Looks great. Here in Az most people could care less about the joints so I clean them inside and out and screw them together. They will usually line up unless you get an odd batch. Less waste overall.
I might spend a day making a set of adjustable ones, 1x1 steel square tube drilled with pin style legs that can be moved to suit different heights of fitment
Good idea on the weed eating. I made the mistake of weed eating a large area and the job turned into a two day job. On the second day that grass was very dry now and it lit off just looking at it lol
Good work!. The amount of grass there is, makes us cringe for the similar fence work we do here in Arizona. So dry here we have to take the extra day to excavate at least 10’ of the work area!. But we all learn from one another!. Great work!.
Thank you for your video. Question: How heavy, durable are the socker rods? Can they be used to build a steel round bale feeder (hay ring) or would the socker rods be too heavy to lift bale feeder/ Or not heavy durable enough to withstand cow bull abuse ?...Thank you 🙏
Wish this type of pipe was more plentiful up here in NY...I once talked to a company in the south that was willing to bring it here. I would have had to order a tractor trailer load yikes! Great info once again!
Here in the UK we don't have much steel fencing, however, our farmers have plenty of rusty old steel to weld up instead and that is how I earn some of my pennies!
I love you man!! I like the way you dragged the gate out n threw it in your vice . Its fun to do stuff like that. Take care sir your videos are the best
I like your videos just wish you would show more details. Like when you're tieing wire to metal post and the clips you use. Show more close up shots of what you're doing. I appreciate your attention to detail tku
Hey Austin, been watching your videos for awhile now and really enjoy them. I like the way you explain the process or technique that your doing. In a fence building video you did building H braces I seen you weld clips, or holders on the side of the post to tie off the wire. Can you tell me what you used, made or bought. I'm getting ready to build my own fence. Thank you. Also, have you worked around David Allen from Nowata,OK, a good friend of mine.
I always stretch the sucker rod with a come a long to straighten them out and make them have less wobble. And another note, your drops of sucker rod would make good material for a jig.
Man I wish you would put on a lil weekend get together I would like to learn some pipe welding and lil things I have a rig and weld on the side just don’t have anyone to show me the pipe stuff so I can practice the right way lol
I understand that but what I’m saying is like a meet and greet and burning rods and having a good time I watch other RUclipsrs put on meet and greets and welding just showing little things here and there but they are to far away just an idea
So if your pin was round how would you go about bowing/ bending the 2 3/8 top rail if you was going to use say a continuous piece or would you just saddle each pice in between the post and cap the tops of the post
Could you give me a good idea on how to set my top rail on uneven land it’s not a steady slope up or down just kinda up and down here and there from post to post i shot it with a line laser but wasn’t sure if that would turn out good… it’s 2-3/8 5’ tall with 4 rows of sucker rod… thanks… UA 286 fitter out of Austin !!!
To bad the post pipe wasn't bigger. Would have cut holes in post and ran rod through the post and end joints in pipe. But your work still looks great. Good job
I would like to see you talk about safety and the dangers on the pipeline jobs because it looks kind of dangerous welding underneath suspended pipe do you ever have cave-ins or stuff like that happen just curious 👍👍😊
Hey Austin I'm confused some people tell me todo the root pass uphill and others downhill I'm practicing to become a pipeliner like you can you help me please. Thank you
LOL use a chain loop it and drag it is way easier ... so you don't have to lift it ... And you do have enough pipe to build your rack too. but where and how you find those rods.. they look like old drilling equipment those succer rods ?
What are the "jacks" you were using to hang the last gate? Unless there is an overhead, hanging gates and getting them level is hard to do by my self. Those "jacks" sure look handy.
hey austin 2 questions , do you get the materials for your projects or do the customers supply them ? and do you charge them by the hour or by the size of the project ?
Ya I’d say it’s ok. Just maybe put a lil bevel on the sucker rod. If you’re welding it to the side of the rod, just make sure you’re nice an hot,, but not too hot.
With solid Mig wire, your metal needs to be really clean and you would be fighting the wind for the shielding gas. Flux core would be easier like the stick welding.
Solid steel rod that connects the pump jack at the surface and the down hole pump. Makes the pump move up and down to pump liquids to the surface. They are made of special alloy steels for specific purposes related to weight, corrosion, temperature, friction resistance, etc. in the down hole conditions. There are sucker rods that are made of fiberglass and other materials, but they are not common and are not usually found in the oil field. Austin is, of course, using steel rods.

Takes away from the neatness of the fence. He could have used the 5 ft drop offs for uprights halfway between post to make it stronger.
These are my fav videos

Nice job.

What were the stands that were holding your gate they looked like tounge jacks?????
I always stretch the rods too, doesn't end up sagging later on
Man I wish you would put on a lil weekend get together I would like to learn some pipe welding and lil things I have a rig and weld on the side just don’t have anyone to show me the pipe stuff so I can practice the right way lol
A little weekend get together is not going to even touch on what you need to learn to be a good, not close to excellent, pipe welder.
I understand that but what I’m saying is like a meet and greet and burning rods and having a good time I watch other RUclipsrs put on meet and greets and welding just showing little things here and there but they are to far away just an idea
Would like to know the size of that sucker rod. It looks very proportional with the pipe. Everything I seem to find seems smaller than that.

What was the jack setup holding the gate in place while you were setting that up. That’s super slick for a one man band!
Looks great
Thanks
What's a good deal on H post and corner post to be welded up? How do we find a good on steel post?
To bad the post pipe wasn't bigger. Would have cut holes in post and ran rod through the post and end joints in pipe. But your work still looks great. Good job
I use 6010 or 6011 first then come around with 7018. What my dad told me because its hard carbon steel. Have any came apart from the post.
Any word on when you might return to the pipeline? Love your videos
I would like to see you talk about safety and the dangers on the pipeline jobs because it looks kind of dangerous welding underneath suspended pipe do you ever have cave-ins or stuff like that happen just curious 👍👍😊
If you were to build a jig more designed for sucker rod how exactly would you do that
what size sucker rod did you use? I didn't hear it mentioned in the video.
how did you hold that top pipe in place between the fence and the gate? Then did you use your beveling technique to join them?
Nothing like running lo-hi on rusty tubing, fun fun.
Great
Let's go!!!
C'mon!!!
Sucker rod! Never heard that one! Is it rebar?
I would think 6011 or 6013 be easier for that rusty stuff! Less prep work too!

Is it ok to weld regular steel plates to sucker rods with MIG? Will it hold? Thanks!!

@@Ruben901 Are you saying it is better to do stick welding rather than MIG on sucker rod? Thanks.
@@bofe1709
I just feel like stick will penetrate better, unless you make a little bevel for the mig. But, im not a pro mig welder by the way

What is sucker rod??
Solid steel rod that connects the pump jack at the surface and the down hole pump. Makes the pump move up and down to pump liquids to the surface. They are made of special alloy steels for specific purposes related to weight, corrosion, temperature, friction resistance, etc. in the down hole conditions. Are all your welds here with 6010
No. 7018
Why you don't dig a in the ground where the rod touching
Were you calling it “sucker rod”?
Why 7018 and not 6010 on the sucker rod?
It’s stronger
I figured you wouldn’t want to because it’s not as clean a surface and restrikes aren’t as easy.
But I’m also not a professional
👌👊!!!
Dood love the channel, but you need to cut down the adds. To many to close. Other than that loven it 👍
"sucker rod " from the oil field " ?
Greg Betts yes. Used to run downhole pumps.
O.K. I give up why is it called sucker rod ?
Question - can livestock harm their eyes looking at welding?
I’m not sure 🤔 lol I’ve wondered that over the years myself.
