If the Springboks are willing and able to lace the drinks of their own coaches with drugs I suspect there might be something to the World Cup Final food poisoning story. Absolutely stunning revelation here. And the candor of it...
It's a fact that the All Blacks were food poisoned. It's also a fact that it happened earlier in the week. Food poisoning is something you recover from in 24 hours and the All Blacks were back in training before the World Cup final. Also it's more likely the hotel manager, waitress or someone at SA Rugby was behind the food poisoning than the actual Springboks.

maybe the legendary rolls royce is starting to lose his memory, I'm quiet sure he didn't play under harry viljoen, but he did play under carel du plessis in 1997, and I think it was said he turned down nick mallet at the end of 1997 for the end of year tour, but anyway I personally rate him the best springbok fullback of all time, not taking anything away from percy and willie, but the rolls royce was simply the best 15 in the world whenever he wore the bok jersey, legend.
Haha, yes I think sometimes the mist of time can do that. So you're quite right he didn't play under Harry for the Boks, but Viljoen did have stint at the Sharks/Natal in 1993 so Juba would have interacted with him there. He played for the Boks in 1997 under Carel but didn't go on the end-of-year tour under Mallett. So difficult to compare greats like Juba with Monty and Willie. I often say it's best to just enjoy them while we can and when we can. Thanks for watching! Appreciate your support as always. Hope you're enjoying the other videos too.
@@TheBokkeableHarry was also unlucky. Lost the Currie Cup final in 1992 against Natal ... and then lost the following year with Natal! Glad he got his Currie Cup with Province in the end in 1997. I can't remember if Harry was still with Natal in 1994 though.
Dificult to explain how special Kitch Christie was - he had very little time to "build" a team, yet he managed to win a world cup, and he had a 100% win ratio
A brilliant coach who had the right strategy at the right time. I think he fast-tracked the process by selecting the bulk of his Transvaal players. There were 13 of them in the 26-man RWC squad in 1995. He then filled in the gaps with Jouba, James, Mark Andrews etc. No one can say it didn't work!
That picture of Pieter Hendriks just before the first try in 1995 world cup never fails to irritate me as he only managed to come across as arrogant. Had he not done that the try would have been enjoyed so much more.

@@frontrowrugby In my first job, living in Durbs. That match was insane! As a Natalian I am biased to Juba, but I think when he was on form, Percy may have been better. But either way, Juba is legend.
That's wonderful! I am jealous you got to go. By the time the Cricket World Cup came along in 03 I was working and managed to buy myself a ticket to go to a game at least.
Gosh, how do we compare Juba and Percy? I think Monty was more reliable as a goal kicker after Jake brought him back. But they both had great pace and flair. Very difficult to say.
@@frontrowrugby It is a pleasant quandary. Percy on form was outstanding.
I think what sets these great backline players apart, is that they are always 'there'. Danie Gerber is in my my view, the greatest centre SA ever produced. He was always 'there'.
Nice, a video insert.
Glad you enjoyed it. Please do check out our other videos. Would love your feedback on those too. All the best!
brilliant player
Undoubtedly! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the support!
An absolute legend.
I concur!
Legend, True Legend!
Couldn't agree more!
Die Hard Natal/Sharks fan. Used to be such a huge fan wgen I was young that I had this book with all their pics and profiles, stats and so on. What great memories from different times ..Andre Joubert, Hugh Reece-Edwards, Cabous van der Westhuizen, Tony Watson, John Plumtree, Marc Edwards, Wahl Bartman, Joel Stransky, Robert du Preez and so on 😃🦈🦈🇿🇦
That was a great Natal/Sharks era as well. Many special players. It's no surprise they did so well for province, franchise and country!
Thanks for watching. Appreciate the support and glad you enjoyed the video.
PS As a young boy I too had so many of those books, stickers, player cards etc.
What a great guy. Played golf with Juba couple of times during our military training in 1988. This lefty can punish a golf ball similar to a rugby ball.
That's a great story. So now we know he can hit the long ball ... but how was his short game?
What a legend
A true champion!
awesome
Thank you for the support! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I’ve been a high level Welsh Full back he was my childhood hero Under-rated in my opinion as he’s in the top 3 fullbacks of all time chat with Cullen and JPR
He was a magnificent player. Fondly remembered by all South Africa. What's your real name @MrKelso85 ? I may know of you!
Thank you for the comment.
This guy could kick the ball from one in-goal area to the other. At sea level.
His skills were insanely good. What a player.
Thanks for the support! Really appreciate it.
Legend
Absolutely!!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the support.
The Rolls-Royce of Fullbacks 🇿🇦
He certainly was!
Can you get Dean Hall on here?
My aim is to get as many ex-Boks as possible. But since you're asking so nicely, I'll try to get Dean on earlier!
Thanks for watching. Appreciate the support!
@@frontrowrugby great man..some key points..his debut for the Lions against Small..Lions under Laurie Mains..his debut super rugby season with his much hyped try when he ran over Tanivula..thus coining him the SA Lomu in 01. His debut for the Boks later that season..and his eventual knee injury. Just some topics that you can flesh out some more.
@@jldp24 I can tell you're a big fan! I'll see if I can get him on. My aim is to get every Bok on here eventually! There's one guy I've been trying to get for nearly six months! So far only three have said no! I won't mention names.
@@frontrowrugby I'm a big fan of most of the players around the late 90s early 000s. Let me know some names and I can add some insights..
@@jldp24 Yeah that was an interesting era for the Boks too. 1998 was great but then we struggled a bit until Jake White took over.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll do my best to get them all on the show!
The Rolls Royce of full backs
Oh yes!
Would help me look up your Facebook page if the pre-question were over you as opposed to trying to watch his answers
Hi Bobby. Thank you for the comment. I've actually done away with those altogether. Of course they are still on the older videos but you'll notice on the new videos they are no longer around. People didn't really like it so I killed it
All the best and thank you for watching!
maybe the legendary rolls royce is starting to lose his memory, I'm quiet sure he didn't play under harry viljoen, but he did play under carel du plessis in 1997, and I think it was said he turned down nick mallet at the end of 1997 for the end of year tour, but anyway I personally rate him the best springbok fullback of all time, not taking anything away from percy and willie, but the rolls royce was simply the best 15 in the world whenever he wore the bok jersey, legend.
@@frontrowrugby aaah yes you're mate, Viljoen did coach the sharks when Ian McIntosh took the bok gig in 1993 to 94..
@@TheBokkeableHarry was also unlucky. Lost the Currie Cup final in 1992 against Natal ... and then lost the following year with Natal! Glad he got his Currie Cup with Province in the end in 1997.
I can't remember if Harry was still with Natal in 1994 though.
The rolls royce!!
The one and only! Glad you enjoyed it.
Rolls Royce nice man
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Well done, you have great guests on here, but PLEASE STOP PUTTING YOUR FOLLOW US ON TWITTER banner up all the time. Your guests are all on laptop cameras etc.. yet you are in an over-lit studio/home setup in "the land of sand" Ps had to make this last remark as I have bee in TV land for ever. Comments aside.... Pss. Well done for getting these Icons on your channel !!!
Thanks for the comment Dan. I appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed the video.
You'll be happy to know I killed the Twitter stuff a long time ago. Andre was Video #9 and I think by Video #13 it was gone for good.
In terms of the lighting, it's trial and error for me. I can only continue to try and improve with every video.
Again thank you for the feedback! All the best.
Royal Royse fullback
What a player he was!
Ah he got rid of that magnificent stache
Hahaha!
Typical french. How those folks can sleep at night is mind-boggling
Haha, they are a law unto themselves sometimes hey. Nice to see you in the comments section again!
Andre Joubert...Probably the worst player ever to put on the Springbok jersey.
I am sure this comment is just to try and get some response. I was in the army with Juba and it irritated me because he was just brilliant at every sport including cricket and golf. To top it all he was also a very nice guy and still sounds like a good bloke.
@@gm.Observer The Army? Well...I am sure that probably explains the low standards of the man during his disgraceful Rugby playing days. This interview with Joubert is just opening up old wounds again. Talk about adding an insult to old injury. GEEEEZ!!!
@@rssv1770 I dont know who you are and what your connection is to Andre, but sounds like you have issues with him.
@@gm.Observer Well...I now have issues with you because you think I have issues with him. Be a man and do the right thing and admit that you are wrong about him. He was no "Rolls Royce of fullbacks." He was more like "The Garbage Truck of Fullbacks." Be a man!!! I dare you.
@@rssv1770 You are not brave enough to show your name and make very silly comments. I will not reply again because you clearly have personal problems.
I played against him in Singapore in the sevens when he was playing for Durban harlequins, I was playing for Happy Valley. His first five meter speed was unreal, I got a finger on him, that was it. He loved he Vuarnet sunnies.
What a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing.
Glady you're enjoying the videos too! Appreciate the support.
@@frontrowrugby our next match was against either Kaitake or Takapuna, I forget which, but their number seven was Cullen……….all the gas! In the scrum they had Eric Rush. We got killed.
This story of yours just keeps getting better! Wow!
Rush was a great player ... particularly in the Sevens arena.
And Cullen was a genuine master. Incredibly skillful with devastating pace. Whenever he had the ball he was dangerous.
@@frontrowrugby was there a boks player called Rudi Koch who played for Durban Quins?
I won't lie to you, I have very limited knowledge on KZN club rugby. I'm not familiar with Rudi Koch. I did though check the archives I have access to and the only Bok Koch I could find is Vincent Koch.
