    Stay tuned for more on this whole home amp as well as a comparison of this and the dayton audio dax66 amplifier. Also stay tuned for my 2018 smart home install!
    www.monoprice.com/product?p_i... This is a VERY good whole home audio amplifier. For the money and quality it is superb over other systems. It's ease of installation puts it up high on the list, and unfortunately not many know about this kind of a system. Similar systems like this can easily be 2x or 3x in cost, maybe even more.
    I forgot to talk more about my ceiling speakers, these are the indoor ceiling speakers that i used, and i would recommend them. Amazing sound quality!! They are by dayton audio -- Many people recommend them. www.parts-express.com/dayton-...
    For my outdoor speakers i also used dayton audio -- www.parts-express.com/dayton-...
    The speaker wire i used (i'd recommend the 14 guage though):www.monoprice.com/product?p_i...
    The cat 6 cable i used in my parents (i used regular cat5e though, it doesnt really matter): www.monoprice.com/product?p_i...
    The RG6 cable that i used for cable tv runs, and my RCA runs: www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire...
    Keystone Wall plate (you can get ones with more or less holes): www.monoprice.com/product?p_i...
    Keystone wall jacks (you can get any kind of wall jacks including hdmi, ethernet etc...): www.monoprice.com/product?p_i...
    All in all, i spent roughtly $850 to install this system. Labor was free since i did it all myself, however if you've never gotten up in the attic and know how to run wire, this type of a job would be a little challenging, but not impossible. I was able to save a little money due to the fact that i already had speaker wire from another install that i did.

    Thanks for the video -- this may be the answer to replacing my 12 year old whole home 12 zone Elan System. One thought. I use the long range Audio Engine B1 bluetooth receiver vs the chromecast audio receiver you show. I like to have my music voice controlled via alexa (amazon music, pandora, iphone music in itunes library, etc.) and I can play all this by telling Alexa to connect to bluetooth (then alexa connects to audio engine B1), then I can request specific song by name, or artist or station type (from either Amazon or Pandora). I can thumbs up or down songs, skip songs, raise or lower volume, switch stations, etc. all by voice. You can also use NAS drives and Plex and have Alexa control your hard drive music this way as well.

    you just earn a new subscriber, great info in this video, well explained, just what I was looking for :).
    Question 1.- can you provide or add in the description the rca wall plate you used for the audio sources?
    Question 2.- Can you provide or add in the description the RCA cables you used for this install?
    Question 3.-Which speaker cable would you suggest to buy that is code for new construction?
    Question 4.- did you use cat 5, cat 6 or cat7 Ethernet cable?
    I'm looking forward to see which plans you have for your smart home.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 лет назад +7

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      1) I used keystone wall plates from Monoprice, and bought all of the keystone jacks from monoprice (i've added links to the description)
      2) An RCA cable is a really simple cable. To make your own RCA cable you would use RG6 cable. RG6 cable is the same type of cable you would use to run cable tv in your house, except with a different end on it. (i've added a link to the RG6 cable that i use)
      3) If you are doing construction in a residential building and not commercial, i believe it just needs to be CL2 rated. Most speaker cable you would buy is already ok to run in houses. I would suggest you use 14 guage speaker wire, i used 12 guage and it was a little over kill since i wasnt doing that long of runs. If you are doing very long runs, then i would say use 12 guage. (i've added a link to the speaker wire i used)
      4) I used cat 5e cable for my install because i ran out of cat 6. I wired my parents entire house with cat 6 though, so you can use either. I like cat 6, because it has the extra plastic insert in the cable, which keeps it stiffer when running, which is helpful. (link to that cable is also in the description now!)

    3:01 the best DAC for your buck
    Edit: have you tried the optical input? You can get an optical mini cable to hook up to the Chromecast Audio and even stream at 98k pcm...if the app you're using allows for it

    • @victorshane4134
      @victorshane4134 5 лет назад

      The quality will be 120% better if he change the cable. Let me explain - On amps, RCA inputs not digital. Those are analog inputs which means the signal is pre processed which means the chromecast converted digital signal to analog. Over optical there's no dac used. What comes in, that's go out without any conversion. If your amp or avr is equipped with spdif, use optical connection in between. Your amp or avr has a better dac built in :)

      I would think this would be doable. Just hook 2 inputs to one speaker, assuming they are both analog connections with the red and black wires. Then do the same for the other speakers within the 5.1 setup.

    I did a very similar install except the placement of my unit. I used OSD MAX12 for mine and I have 22 speakers. 4-5 speakers per zone for 5 Zones then outside zone is 2 6" rock speakers. I used Dayton audio in-wall speaker expanders so i could power more speakers per zone. I control the unit with both wall keypads and Android app.

    6 Month Update: I have been installed now for 6 months. I didn't use the wall controls because your app is AMAZING. I have 2 Google Audios for input sources and a TV source.
    If anyone is interested in a GREAT sounding speaker. I would recommend the Theatre Solutions. I have 6 of them in 3 zones. A Polka in the master bath and 2 outside zones with Bose and Polk. Had I done the Polk first I would have only Polk outside. But I love my current setup. Thanks for the inspiration and direction @TheKMZ1

    Which RG6 to RCA compression fittings and tool did you use for your RCA wall input? Also, was there concern about the bend radius in the wall at the wall plate? I have 4 RG6 inputs, which is 8 cables, terminating into 2 wall plates at the amp side but I am worried about trying to bend the cable to fit into the keystone wall jack. Thoughts?

So basically run 14/2 speaker wire to each speaker from central system where monoprice amp will be sitting and also run cat5e to each zone for for keypad. Also run dual coaxial cable to each source location for RCA transition. Thanks TheKMz1

    Hello, couple more questions. 1) is the 50w/4ohm vs 25w/8 ohm for each of the two channels per zone or just per zone? 2) the exterior speakers you used have a power handling of 50 watts RMS/85 watts max. Given that this is a 8 ohm speaker, isn’t the power less than minimum? Thanks!

    Hello, great video! Very informational. I bought my house and it has speakers with 6 different zones but have never used all of them. I have a surround sound system that has a 2nd zone and that is how I have been running the speakers to parts of the house. There are cat5 cable with the speaker wires and access points to all zones but I noticed it has the speaker wire and the cat5 in the access port for all zones, will this set up work for the monoprice amplifier in your video or would I have to run other wires. Another thing is that there are actually two cat5 cables in every access point. I am assuming they ran two in case if one went bad in the future. The access point have all been covered to where the wires are not visible but one controller was left with a sliding volume control.

    I'll start by saying thank you for the videos! They are a huge help as I'm planning my whole home audio set up. How would I add a powered/active subwoofer to a standard 2 speaker zone? I thought it was the pre-amp outs, but after watching your video it looks like I have to use either the speaker outputs or the pre-amp out independently, they cannot be used in conjunction with each other. Am I understanding that correctly?

  • @jeffsifrit7758
    @jeffsifrit7758 5 лет назад

    Have you used the RCA outputs before? Does that eliminate the speaker outputs on same zone? I guess i should say I plan on 6 zones but also have 2 other rooms with ceiling speakers and amps already wired.... was hoping there was a way to incorporate them also(love the fact of having 6 sources for each of the old school receivers). • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 лет назад

      yes you can technically do that, but at long distances it's not advised to. You dont get shielding using speaker wire. RG6 has shielding in the cable so you can make a long distance RCA cable with extremely little loss. I would not recommend using speaker wire for it

    Our home is prewired for 5 zones, one of which is our TV room that has 3 speakers behind the TV and 2 speakers on the opposite wall across. Not sure if this is surround or not. We have all the wiring in the basement so I’m guessing we have to install our hub there. There is only one control keypad though (in the basement). Would it be difficult to instal a keypad at each zone? Where do we start? We are not versed in this type of thing and don’t want to spend huge amounts of money.

    Hi, this is really a nice video. I learned how to conned chromecast from this video. I just moved into a new place and wondering how to connect my tv in master bed room to this monoprice amplifier system. Appreciate any direction. I am not much of a networking guy. My system is in my living room downstairs. I have a network switch with blue plugin.

    Hey I recently run some audio cable and and video cables to a closet where I can't see my devices in the livingroom, my question is the guy connect the DVR, amazon tv and the xbox to the receiver something that I really don't like because now I need to have everything on when before when I use to have them in the livingroom I use to have them work individually, for example not all the time I want to have my sound on to watch the tv now in this type of connection I have to have it on.
    My question is can I be able to use a type of splitter, what can you recommend me to do

    Hey man, I just ordered the monoprice audio amplifier and the soundavo 8 inch speakers to pair with them thanks for the discount code btw. Am I going to have to bridge the amplifier to be able to use the speakers with the monoprice amp? or can I run the 2 8 inch speakers on the 4 ohm 50 w left and right for one zone? The soundavo say they are 8 ohm 60 w. Also how can I get audio from my tv to amplifier without a rca out of the tv? I am currently using arc to my soundbar for audio out at the moment. Would I have to change the audio out of the tv to like optical out and run a optical cable to amp so I can hear tv that way through my speakers?

    Hey TheKMZ1
    ! Awesome video and really like the setup a lot. I'm also building a new home and am going to go this route after watching your video. Planning on pre wiring the entire house with low voltage for all my tech and am trying to learn all I can as fast as I can. Any other new constructions tips you may have will also be much appreciated.
    I do have a couple questions for you if you don't mind. You said some of your sources were RG6. Where do you have those sources run to and how did you end up terminating? I'm clear on the the RCA for the cable box / kitchen and 3.5 for the chromecast, but was confused my the RG6.
    Also, I would like your opinion on incorporating an Onkio receiver I have sitting around. Would I even need my existing receiver at this point. if so, how would you set it up with this system?
    Thank you in advance. Again, awesome vid and setup.

      I'm in the same boat you are, only 9 months later. I am about to purchase and pre wire my new construction home. Can you give me any insight into what you did? I need to order soon, add my builder is killing it.

    Prepping to do this in my house and this is the best demo I've seen. A few questions if I may:
    1. Each speaker runs back to your amp?
    2. What was the rg6 wire for?
    3. Does the cat 6 go from the room switch to the amp?
    4. Are those 6" speakers? Would you recommend 6" or 8"?

    Thanks for the review! It's > 4 years old but still helpful. Would you recommend something other than chromecast audio now? I believe it's discontinued and there are new devices like the wiim mini streamer. Also, is it possible to stream different music to the different zones? Would you need multiple streaming devices? (e.g. multiple chromecast audios or multiple wiim streamers?)

    Great set up. Where is the cat 5 wire going from the keypads? Also, are speaker wires going directly to the speakers from the amplifier?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  4 года назад +1

      Yes speaker wire goes from the speakers directly to the amp, also same with the keypads. So everything "home runs" back to the amplifier. And the amplifier has the circuitry necessary to know what zones it needs to control based on the keypads being clicked.

    Hi, very thorough and informative videos. I watched your whole amp and pre-wired journey. I want to set up something similar and want to ask if you know if it's possible to multipurpose 5 ceiling speakers that are already wired to a 5.1 surround sound receiver and use them through zone 1 on an amp through the receiver while watching TV, but also use them independently through a different zone in which they are directly wired to the amp on a different zone. I guess I would do to sets of wiring, one from speaker to receiver and the other one from the speaker to the amp. Can that be done? Is there a better way? Is there a risk with double powering the speakers?
