Linus just a word of caution as an Engineer, if your house was built before 1996 that ceiling/or ceiling paint (bumpy/looks like drips) most likely contains asbestos and i would highly recommend ventilating that room heavily for a couple days as asbestos dust will literally just float in the air for years.
You just cut giant holes in your vapor barrier. In winter it will create mold on the sealing and condensation in the insulation.
Linus, please make a video on game servers and how ping works. When we trace the ping it shows hops through which it passes to reach destination servers. But sometimes some of the hosts has packet loss and thus ping is too high. Is it possible to reroute the path to use better hosts to reach servers. Gamer community will love this know this knowledge. Please.
Unsubbed, I don't know what happened to this channel but it's neither entertaining nor informative anymore.
You guys should really look into a Dante system for this, I really feel like it'd be up your alley.

Pretty standard LTT click bait. Mind you they are the ones laughing to the bank, since we watched it anyway....
Hey, we all clicked xD
In comparison I took my car to a professional after spending some time outside in the cold attempting to remove a stuck on molding cleanly only to have him tear it off... Like bro, I could have done that.

Yea such click bait
Just a couple tips for would be in-ceiling speaker installers from someone who does it professionally.
1. run your wires high so they dont get stepped on.
2. leave yourself a service loop and some slack so you can pull out the speaker if necessary.
3. adjust your drill down to the lowest power settings/clutch? setting so you dont over tighten
4. always check above where you are about to cut. dont nick electral wires or accidently hit studs/joists
5. stud finder will save you some wasted attic trips.
6. Attics get really hot, don't put your equipment up there.
7. 1 speaker is usually good enough for a single room.
8. speakers in wall will sound better than speakers in ceiling when doing surround sound for living rooms.
finally not a tip but opinion. Klipsch has been the best bang for the buck speaker i've come across, but there are many good brands.
1 speaker is good enough? shouldn't there be at least 2 for stereo audio? 1 is just mono and you lose a lot of the experience that way.

I love watching these videos of Linus upgrading his house. I always think: Wow that's really cool, I'd love to do that!
And then I remember I live in Germany and my house isn't built out of cardboard and plywood and getting a hole inside a wall requires a massive amount of tools and work.
Same.... Also cable management for any integrated system is a real pain in the ass in a normal german house. Even distributing LAN trough your flat is a difficult task...
Markarth Guard Living in a house from the 70s, I totally agree. Had to drill holes and route the cable outside of the house to get it upstairs.
Hahaha mee too bud
First thing I did when I bought my house 5 years ago was slitting my walls an get 450 m cat7 and 100 m coax in them 😜 definitely worth it
@@_____random_____ yeah, thats kinda smart
I love that Yvonne instantly called Linus out when he said he doesn't know if he'd spend 6 times as much for better audio
yeah but in reality you WOULD need that in a studio setting, as an audio engineer i could argue this all day, i do need $700 speakers, two of them? thats a luxury, but one is the minimum, if you dont have a correct monitor when you export your audio it will just be all over the place
@@djexitvideos Yeah, that's why I like that she called him out... but also, you should never let your equipment dictate how good you are or aren't allowed to be at something. Most mixing engineers will listen to their mixes in their cars to double check things. Not because their cars have good speakers, but because they know what those speakers sound like. In a professional setting, while good speakers make life easier, its more important to know your speakers than how good they are. That said a set of $700 studio monitors is a pretty massive upgrade to quality of life.
@@alexverbaan to anyone reading this, figure out if any of your friends have studio monitors and ask them to go give them a listen one day, tell them a couple of your fav songs, it changed MY life, might change yours too

I would definitely recommend polk audio. Have a 8" sub in my 4x4 that I put in an undersized sealed box and have been pushing over twice the rated peak and about 1.5x the rated RMS to it for about 8 years, while off-roading through decently harsh conditions, never skipped a beat. puts out a good amount of base to for the size and how big/noisy of an area it has to fill.
The speaker placement with no regard for acoustics hurts my soul.
What would be an ideal speaker placement on the ceiling ? I have a feeling that since it's pointed down it's still terrible compared to any normal bookshelf speakers.
What would be an ideal speaker placement on the ceiling ?
@@AlohaBiatch I don't think there's really an ideal place for a speaker in the ceiling. You could possibly put it in a box to make it sound a bit nicer. Maybe a bit bassier too
@@devinmcdrip You are not wrong, a box is a good idea and many are actually sold with the box as an option. However it looks like the installs were done in the attic space where they should be covered in insulation, and vapour barrier. SOOO hopefully they did that off camera because speakers aren't that great and insulating. You'd end up with hot or cold spots on the ceiling depending on the season and possible condensation issues as hot air meats cold air in the winter. There should be a vapour barrier "box" placed over each speaker that's exposed to outside air, that "box" should be sealed with tuck tape or other brand of vapour barrier tape and then insulation placed over the vapour barrier box. That by itself will actually make them sound better as well if done correctly. I'm hoping it just made the video too long to show the entire process. Similar process to install pot lights in a ceiling exposed to outside air however fire rating for the pot light is important. These are great videos but they are NOT complete instructional videos as they leave out the "boring" details sometimes. Yes you may want to consult a professional if you haven't done or seen it done before by a pro.
@@AlohaBiatch You would need to do some testing, all depends on the room.
I'm convinced that Yvonne is the mastermind behind the whole LTT empire.
i mean she doesn't come up with the videos, but she does a lot behind the scenes running the company

Pretty good install! Dynamat makes some cool speaker boxes for in ceiling speakers that you should take a look at. Open backed in-ceiling speakers let a sound of the sound escape into the attic and between floors. Putting your cheaper open backed speakers in a dynamat box will not only help with the noise bleed but also improve the overall quality of the sound and make them sound better than more expensive lines.

What's the point of a sound system when you only have one speaker.
People who don't like music apperently.

@@svgPhoenix All music from like the late 60s to today is recorded to be played back on 2 speakers. Depending on the track he might literally be missing certain sounds/instruments/effects by limiting it to one speaker per amp. And the whole concept of doing it this way to "simplify" things is a bit foolish. Having to crawl up into your attic to troubleshoot Sonos hardware in the event it has an issue sure doesn't sound "simple" to me lol

@@Time4Technology Why not the audio of a military bugle playing reveille at full volume ? :D
I used to use a "clock stereo" from Best Buy as my alarm clock (basically a small all-in-one stereo system with 5-Disc CD, Tape, Radio, and I think the speakers are about 1.5 feet but they consider it to be a clock radio and not a stereo system). I literally had to get up and walk over to it to turn it off. I still somehow managed to fall back asleep (I'd sit down on my bed and next thing I'd know it was an hour later, fortunately the job I had at the time started late enough in the day that I wasn't late). Before that when I was in the Scouts I slept through reveille (didn't know it was spelled that way) on a number of occasions. I've also slept through a marching band directly outside my window (window was open) and a smoke alarm going off. I did eventually wake up to the smoke alarm after having a waking dream where I thought the sound was coming from a computer I had been working on then another waking dream where I realized it was coming from the smoke detector and tried to check it while in reality my body was still asleep. Not sure how long I was actually out for while it went off but, fortunately it was a false alarm (looking back at it now I guess something in the detector circuit shorted). I'm actually a bit of an insomniac and have a lot of trouble falling asleep so when I do fall asleep I'm out cold.
I would...

@rogerwilco99 My wife does this (spends a little bit here and a little bit there and before you know it, the ~$5k we had in the bank is gone without much to show for it) and she is a bit miffed that I started a savings account that she cannot easily access to get around this issue (mainly that it doesn't show up when she checks the bank so the money isn't burning a figurative hole in her pockets).

I think the better option would be to get a decent multi-channel amp, and a few Sonos connect preamps. Definitely stereo sound in each room, and the speakers toward the center of the room. Or for even cheaper, you can get a multi-channel amp with an Apple AirPort Express. I have one for my outdoor P.A. system and it works great. My friends and I all have Macs, iPhones, and iPads so we can easily AirPlay to them for music outside. Might get some more speakers and AirPorts for my whole house.

What is a ceiling, if not a horizontal wall?
@@wasecheber I-
Aight you win this one
@@wasecheber Maybe how the speaker connects to the drywall is where the difference is? I mean if you have tiny little tabs it would work fine for in wall because the force of gravity isn't pulling out against the tabs that is going straight down on top of the drywall, not to mention the vibrations from the speaker itself, where as an in ceiling speaker may have a more robust mounting system to so that it can hold the weight and vibrations ... *shrug* I'm just guessing here mind you.
@@Mike__B that is correct
As someone who does this work for a living... YES, you absolutely should have called a professional. I was yelling at my tv thw whole time.
I had a "whole home audio setup" in my trailer from the 80s. Had an 8 track reciver built into the living room wall and 2 speakers in the living room, and one in every other room including the bathroom. Came from the factory like that, I kinda miss it

I’d recommend Rockford fosgate speakers and woofers they’re great. I’m even planning to install some of the car audio versio ones in my room
Pro tip, just install them in the wall in retrofit lol, unless you have an attic up there. Also you can do a single speaker in each room, the amp has a mono setting! Also use a jab saw and definitely not a powered saw to make your hole because there could be electrical cables in the wall or pipes. It's better to put the amps inside of a closet or something because the attic might get a bit hot, so make sure you have attic fans to keep the attic cool, or install the amps inside of a rack with active cooling to keep them at 92 degrees.

You’re going to get only half the soundtrack on that second speaker you installed! That is a single channel speaker, only has one tweeter. If you want just one ceiling speaker in a room, get a Stereo In-Ceiling Speaker, it has two tweeters to provide both left and right channels! Kind of surprised he did not discuss this or pick up on it
It doesn't matter how the speaker is set up but wired mostly. If he wired the amp to play the speaker in mono, then that speaker will play both channels.
Its called a dvc. Dual voice coil. It has two pairs of terminals and the main speaker cone has two voice coils. Sometimes they do have two tweeters but that's not what makes them stereo capable.
@@DelTalkoh definitely! this is certainly an option.
@@tangyspongesauce lol was trying to think of the term! I have learned something new...I am used to seeing DVC speakers having two tweeters - I thought in all cases duel tweeters would be necessary, but I guess not. Still surprised it did not warrant any mentioning on the video.
Thats not true you are thinking of stereo vs single dual or triple coil. single dual or triple is just to seperate your highs mids and lows. It gives you a cleaner sound that is why you have crossovers on amps for sub to know what frequency to pick up the bass. With stereo he can wire those speakers to suit him just fine.
