    At 17:50, one comment regarding the volume control per channel. I'm thinking that's actually a really good feature (more so than you elaborated on) as it lets you balance the perceived stereo if your speakers cannot be equally spaced from your "design location" i.e. the spot you plan to enjoy the sound from (e.g. the living room couch). Its a great tuning feature for anyone to know about when designing their home audio if they have to place speakers in less than ideal locations due to obstructions etc. I figure any entry level hobbyist or designer would find that to be a useful feature in situations so figured I'd mention it here! Great video and really enjoyed the thorough explanations.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      Yes, you actually make a great point. I had not thought about that case, where some speakers in some locations in a large zone may need to have their volume tuned differently. Great catch!!! The MZ series amp let's you fine tune each "zone" on that amp, which ultimately in the scenario I shared, would belongs all to 1 WS66i zone

    Your videos have sold me to invest in the WS66i for our home about to be built. Question- what is the best way to be able to switch between TV audio inputs? We will have TVs in living room, patio, pool bar, etc and ideally would like to be able to swap inputs as needed. I only see 2 RCA input and 1 optical input. These will be pretty long cable runs if that matters... I also believe TVs are phasing out RCA output and worried we will lay cable through the house that will obsolete soon. I might want to watch the game in the pool bar with audio from that TV playing through those speakers and my wife might want to be watching a movie in the living room with that audio coming through the living room speakers. I am a novice audio guy and appreciate any advice.

      Hey! I would like to do more on that, I can't make any promises as to when but I would like to. To answer your question, Insteon is still, a very good choice. Since that video I don't think I have done any maintenance on that system at all. The alexa integration still works, and it's been great. For my own house, I think I may consider exploring Home Assistant, it seems like a popular choice among others, but I think the direction you choose, should determine if you want to do some manual setup stuff like getting a Raspberry Pi working, OR do you want to just buy a device such as the ISY994i that has the software already running and you never have to deal with more manual (and technical) stuff.

  • @momentumproductions6290
    @momentumproductions6290 3 года назад +1

    Or you could just get a 70v/100v multizone amp if you don't need the streamers inside and essentially hook up as many speakers as you want, depending on the max volume you wanna crank.
    My only other issue with these systems is they need to have Chromecast and Alexa built in. With the discontinuation of Chromecast audio, getting and 'dumb' speaker or amp to integrate with the Nest ecosystem is prismatic and is mostly solved by using HDMI audio extractors with regular chromecasts.

      You can run the pre-amp out, as well as that zone's built in one at the same time and they will work just fine. The reason why, is because the pre-amp out was actually built for those that want to use the pre-amp out to add a subwoofer to the zone. So they would use the built in amp for the speakers, and the pre-amp out for the sub. So yes both can be used no issues at all

    I have a weird one... I have 3 pairs of speakers. 6 speakers total... I only have left/right channel and a subwoofer connection on my stereo which says it can handle between 6-16 ohms.
    My 2 house speakers are 8 ohms... and both pairs of bookshelf speakers are 6 ohms each. So right now, I have the house speakers hooked up straight/normal to left and right. Then I have the bookshelf speakers hooked up in series together, then in parallel to the left/right channels.
    So it's an 8ohm and 2 6ohm's in series on each left/right channel. Would that be 8 + (6+6) /2 = 10? or,,, 8 + (6+6 /2) /2= 7 ohms... either way I should be in the range of my amplifier. But I'm really curious what the math on that would be.
    I originally had all 3 set up in series and the volume decreased by about 20% or more. It was 8+6+6 on each left/right channel. I'm not sure if that was putting a 20 ohm strain on my amp but it definitely didn't sound as good as the parallel series combo I switched it to.

    I thought wiring in parallel will damage the amp. I thought you have to wire in series to have multiple speakers. Is that incorrect?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      That is incorrect, what damages the amplifier is having an unstable load seen by the amp. So either way high, or way low impedance. This amp is stable at 8 ohms and 4 ohms load, so by wiring your left channel in parallel with 2 speakers will be a 4 ohm load, and same on the right side it would be a 4 ohm load and this amp would be perfectly fine and within it's operating conditions. Heck, you could even get crazy and do one side with 4 speakers, 2 in parallel... which could be in series with another 2 in parallel. That would be 4 ohms + 4 ohms = 8 ohms load at the amp. So the point is wiring it in a way where the load seen by the amp is safe. Edit: this was all assuming standard 8 ohm ceiling speakers in my example.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      Yeah you would have your right (or left) side having only 1 speaker and then your other side would have the paralleled speaker so that means that side would have 2 on it. Some people ask if it sounds weird or if you can tell a difference that one side has an extra and not supposedly "balanced" and no, my ears can't tell. It's pretty rare to be able to tell, unless I guess maybe you are in the audio industry... But no it sounds just fine

      have you considered first trying to run them off of your WS66i? You can run 2 on the left channel in parallel which would be a 4 ohm load, and you can run 2 on the right channel in parallel which would be a 4 ohm load on that side as well. Or are you really wanting more, so you would prefer to use an external amp with the pre-am outputs?

    • @VisionForwardTechConnect
      @VisionForwardTechConnect 3 года назад

      @@TheKMZ1 I could try running them off of the WS66I, but I just figured they would need more power especially for outside use. I previously had them connected to a Sonos amp, Which pushes 125 W x 2, and really liked the sound. I was potentially looking at one of the Soundavo a stereo amps and curious what your thoughts are or if you had a different amp you would recommend. Thanks much

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      If it was me, I would first try running them off of the WS66i. At 4 ohms it would be putting out 50 watts on your left channel and 50 watts on your right channel. I know this sounds like a lot less than you had been running, but when you double your amplifier wattage, you do not double your output sound. You can look this up, but doubling your amp power will result in a +3db noise change. So you could get a 100 watt amplifier and only experience + 3 decibels higher output. There are better amplifiers out there of course, but my point in mentioning all of this is that before spending money, I personally would test it out with the WS66i. Then if you are still feeling like it is lacking, then I would go down the pre-amp output route. Hopefully this helps. I have not experienced their Soundavo CSA stereo amps, but I do have one of their PSA commercial amps that looks just like the CSA model and really like it. It is for another project I'm working on. I have been super happy with their other amps, and so I would definitely give that a try if you were wanting to. They do sell those models on Amazon.

    Great videos. I recently bought a ws66i for installation (based on great info in your videos), and am verifying final install options. I tested using both speaker channels out and preamp simultaneously on the same zone, and both the channels and preamp produce audio at the same time...but my question is what are the specs doing that? How is the power shared between the two channels out to individual 8ohm speakers along with also using pre-amp out? I was considering using a single zone for channels out to a pair of speakers (or bridged to single?), and preamp out to sub amp...but I can't find the specs. Second question...what sounds better out of the amp...a single 8ohm speaker at 25W per channel or two parallel 8ohm speakers using 4ohm and 50W? Not sure why the second option wouldn't be best. Thanks!

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! When you are using the built in amplifier, the specs will be what you see in the manual. And the pre-amp outputs are not doing any of the powering, whatever your external amplifier you have hooked up to the pre-amp outputs is doing the powering to those speakers. The pre-amp outputs are just passing along the source data such as volume level, EQ, bass, etc. So there is no spec when using that because it's the spec of your other external amp. Hopefully that makes sense? I think your last question depends on if you need 2 speakers or 4 speakers in that particular zone right? Or am I misunderstanding? If you had 2 speakers on 1 channel in parallel, that means that zone has 4 speakers no? Technically speaking, I think the 4 ohm load will be producing a louder volume at a lower volume number on the amp because there is less resistance. The amp is stable at both 4 and 8 ohms so I think you really won't get much noticeable difference which is why i would base the decision off of whether or not you need 2 speakers or 4 speakers in that zone.

For the the preamp portion, I didn't want to take away power from the two channels, but seems like it's ok to run those along with pre-amp to sub amp...for all controlled at one zone. Few questions. Where does the source come from? I'm guess some type of wireless device like phone, laptop, tablet, etc? You mentioned cd player so does the ws66i have capability to play from a wireless device and something hardwired like an old school cd or even record player? in regards to the 2 wireless antennas, is that for a wireless device to connect to? Meaning, 2 phones can connect to the amp? Does the amp intergrate with 3rd party switches? Like the Brilliant Switch (If you haven't heard of it, look it up. Cool smart switch from what I read) I going through a massive renovation and looks are a factor with what I would like in a whole house audio. Are those keypads still super bright?

      This video might help explain more of the WS66i features ruclips.net/video/VMUl4TANpmw/видео.html but to answer some of your questions, the amp has 6 sources, 2 are wireless streaming, 2 are RCA inputs, 1 is digital optical cable, and 1 is 3.5mm. Yes you can stream from your phone/tablet to it, and yes you can also hardwire in a source, such as a CD, record player, even a phone 3.5mm, really anything you can find a way to input it. I think the "2 wireless antennas" I think you are confusing that, those are the 2 wireless streamers, that allow you to cast music to the amplifier from your phone/tablet. Yes 2 phones can connect to the amp and play separate things. The amplifier does not integrate with other 3rd party switches. They keypads are still bright, but you can watch this video and you can get the brightness down ruclips.net/video/RLN7CAil3a4/видео.html

    As I understand WS66i can be connected to the PC (windows) and controlled from the PC (windows)? Also is it possible to connect a microphone to the WS66i unit and send the audio from the microphone to the all 6 zones? In my setup I have 4 streamers and a microphone that I need to connect to the WS66i. 4 streamers because I want to have 4 zones and listen to the different content in the each zone. But I need to be able to send the signal from the microphone to these 4 zones simultaneously and control this functionality from the PC (windows).
    Is it possible with WS66i unit?

    • @TheKMZ1

      Technically it could be connected to the PC but i would have to build a windows app to do that. I do not know of anything out there right now that does that. The control is usually done by either A) the keypads, or B) the smart phone app. The WS66i does not have a mic mixer built in, which means it does not support a microphone out of the box. It also is not a paging system. It sounds like the WS66i may not be the amplifier for you, it does not support paging and currently is not controllable through windows like you are anticipating being able to control it.

Am I OK with this setup? My understanding is the Monoprice 10761 and Dax88 can also do this.

      No restrictions, the whole home audio amp is passing all data (source, EQ, bass, etc) through those cables. Whatever it can plug into will work and then that amp will take over from there. It's analog so whatever it can be a source into, then you are good

    How do you feel about the Lync6 ?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад +1

      I've never used it, but here is one main reason why. When my first whole home audio video got popular on my channel, a lot of people were asking me to compare the monoprice unit with the htd amps. I reached out to them and asked if I could get a unit sent to me to review, and they were very stuck up about it. They said they didn't want to be compared at the monoprice level because they were better than that. I tried to explain that what they wanted, and what users were seeing, were 2 different things and my video could have helped show that, but instead they said no. Apparently they were or still are disconnected with others are seeing. They need to look through another set of eyes and not just what they want. So, because they were so stuck up about it...and now the soundavo unit has so many more built in features at a better cost... My go to recommendation is the WS66i. Here are a few other things to consider: htd is more expensive, their lync units will take up more room because they have the secondary amp to power the speakers. With the Soundavo, they have the pre-amp outputs also, so you can still achieve more power if you need to, just like the htd system. Soundavo has the app control built in, and htd is a separate component. So in general I think the WS66i will be a cleaner install. Im not saying htd is bad, I know they have quality stuff. But there are cheaper alternatives that do the same, and have the same features. Some other differences would be the look of the keypad. Let me know if you have any questions

    • @SS-br1kc
