If you want to use the android app or ipad/iphone app to control the amp's volume, sources, zones etc, then you would need to buy the iTach device from Global Cache. Below are the links:
iTach Flex IP by Global Cache: amzn.to/2Noa0BP
They also have an iTach Flex WiFi Version here if you want WiFi model: amzn.to/31YKLLF
You need this also (IT MUST BE THEIR BRAND Global Cache): amzn.to/2JADv2d

I used to own a security installation company and did quite a bit of structured cabling installs toward the early 2000”s.
When I pre-wired my own home, when it came to whole home audio - wasn’t comfortable enough with any particular brand available at that time, so I ran a ton of spare cable, pvc conduit and corrugated innerduct. I eventually installed Russound gear (keypads & multi zone amp) using a tuner as a shared input.
Eventually, I added a PC with a library of MP3’s just running continually with rdp to allow me to “jump over” to the PC playing the MP3’s so I could change selections, etc..
Then I discovered Sonos.... great stuff for the time period (Using Zp80’s and 90’s as “sources” for the Russound amps) and I installed 12 or 13 pairs of Niles speakers, pairing up 2 pairs per channel on the Russound system. Eventually I replaced the entire Russound system with a bunch of Sonos Zp120’s (built-in amp) and 10 of the cr100 keypads which I hung over the holes remaining from the Russound keypads (single gang boxes and mud rings).
Now that Sonos is playing games with legacy gear (“recycle mode” aka bricking!), I am going to leave the speakers in place and mix & match components to build out something that meets my current needs.
This seems like a great place to start... thanks!
Ps; WHEN YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET TO ROUGH-IN YOUR INSTALLATION -->>ALWAYS RUN SPARE CABLE / LEAVE SLACK \. RUN EMPTY PIPE
Love your channel, great content, keep going!!
👍🏻👍🏻 GREAT VIDEOS AND GREAT CHANNEL!!
Thanks
Awesome video. You gave all the information I needed. When it’s time I’ll be buying two monoprices and linking them. My house is small at 1300 square feet. I assume the device and the Dayton are mono. I was going to build a single channel rig using a spare computer and having it set to mono with simple light switches as on off. I looked into different type of volume controls using resistance etc. I saw flaws in my cheap plan right away. I like that I can use Bluetooth and set an iPad up as a controller etc. Thanks for the video.
Magnificent-Jazz Michael these are mono or stereo, each channel you can choose. Are you sure you need 2 of these amps in a 1300 sq foot house?
I’m finishing my basement currently. So it will be 2600 if I was to count that. I could always start with one and see. More likely the case. Good call.
Magnificent-Jazz Michael awe ok didn't realize it was going to be bigger, if you factor in garage, patio etc yeah you probably need 2
Sure. I would be interested in an RS232 video.
Thank you for the informative video. I am trying to design my home audio system, eventually, make the home smart home. All walls are open and starting the cabling in two weeks. Need Help! Are there products with newer technology or should I just go with this video? I am a newbie and have little to no information. Sorry for the long comment. Any recommendation is gold. If you have time, I would like to have a chat and get more recommendations. Thanks for all the info.
Somebody get this man a beer , great info
Check out my videos on the new WS66i amp. Coupon code TKMZ gets you $540 off the amp. The WS66i is an upgraded model and has 2 built in wireless streamers and the app control module to control it with your cell phone all built into the amp! Thanks for watching
Cool video, I have a quick question. Is there a solution that would provide power to 8 speakers with 8 different inputs? I am trying to take 8 Echo inputs and make them control the receiver portion but need an amp to power the in ceiling speakers. I can take the 3.5MM jack and convert it to RCA or speaker wire but I need to power the speakers.
Hi, I'm thinking about getting one of these asap. I already have 6 ceiling speakers wired in different rooms. Quick question.
What would you recommend to use as a reciever in line before this? I want something where I can be anywhere in the house, on my mesh wifi network, and stream music from my phone.
Great informational videos!! Based on your video’s I just purchased the Monoprice amp (to be delivered next week) also ordered the Sonos connect (to be delivered next week) to connect into the source side of the Monoprice. Hoping you can help me with a question I can’t find an answer to? If the Sonos connect is in input 1 source of the Monoprice is there a way to change the station (IE: Pandora) rock to country from a room other than my network closet? Not yet familiar with Sonos, but I’m under the impression that I can listen to different stations? Just wondering if I (or a family member) would be in a room where I set up a wall keypad, will we be able to change the station? I understand from your videos that the keypad allows us to change sources but not sure if it can change stations from the one source? Thank you in advance and Thank you for these informational videos!! John...
The key pads only change the source and does not have anything to do with the station which is on that source. Thanks for watching!
Hey man, great videos, been watching them non stop. What option is there if i DO NOT want to have the additional wall keypads and want to solely control with the app or 1 controller?
You are not required to use the wall controls, you can use the iOS or android app. They both require the itach flex and flex link RS232 cable, which i should have linked in my video descriptions. I have a video on my channel going over how to wirelessly control it. Thanks
@@TheKMZ1 thanks for the info! I am strapped on budget (arent we all) and was contemplating going with multiple Russound MBX-AMP products which i recently learned about but it seems for what i want the DAX66 may be better. Basically want 4 to 6 rooms to have capability of having same/different audio and mainly 3 sources (TV, laptop and wireless devices).
@@nubar5 Sounds like it's perfect for you!
Hey everyone! I have published an android app which can now control these amplifiers if you don't have an Apple device. Search Google play for Monoprice and you should find it. It's called monoprice whole home audio control. Stay tuned for upcoming videos discussing the app!
Hi,
I will like to get a fresh link to where I could get the monoprice 6zone 6channels package with accessories. I will like try it here in Lagos nigeria
Great videos on the installs for both of these amps! I have one question, is the backlight on the keypads too bright in the off position when the room is completely dark?
Nathan In one of my overviews where I detail my installation you might notice that in the master bedroom I put the keypad on a wall that didn't face the bed. I did that on purpose for this reason. Yes the light is fairly bright and there is no dimming option. In my parents install with the DAX66 I didn't think it would be a big deal and the light bothered them so much that they had to tape a piece of paper over it.
Have you tried disassembling the keypad to disable or paint over the leds? I really like your setup and would really like to install the monoprice system in my new construction home, however the leds may be a deal breaker! Thanks for the info and quick replay!
Nathan I hope the LEDs don't cause it to be a deal breaker! These systems are really nice especially for the money. I have not tried to disassemble them, and it's not that it would be that hard, but my main thing is that you cannot get replacement keypads to my knowledge. So if I ruined it I'd be out a keypad. If you could buy extra keypads I'd have no issue tearing into one!
Nathan another idea is to mount the keypad inside a recessed switch box in the wall and cover it with a tinted / smoke plastic door cover to reduce the light yet still see it.
Steve Hartman I have a video on my account now how to dim the light
The only reason not to use Sonos is because you need 120 power at every speaker location (if you go with a play 3 or 5 surface mounted like in your video). 6 zones for roughly $600 or one play 5 for $500...you choose.
Check out Soundavo version. It has the rs232 built in
Yep, new video on my channel! Thanks
thanks for the video, excellent video, is any way to control also from the iphone
Yes there are android and iPhone apps
I should have videos on my channel
Thank you for the video...I've been looking for a good option for my home. Is there a mini version of this? maybe a 3x6??
Stephanie Cervantes I don't believe there is
Mono price used to sell a 6x4.. they had some issues though
When my house was in framing stage I made a sudden decision to add whole home audio. I ran 14g speaker wire as well as cat5e cable to 6 boxes to be volume controls and then 16g speaker wire from those volume controls to 6 sets of in ceiling speakers. I neglected to add any subwoofers, and that's potentially one concern since I do like to be able to get some bass. My other thought is that perhaps I could save some money simply using slider volume controls, but then I'm not sure how an amp/receiver would direct the sources to separate zones? Is there a lower cost option that would allow 2-3 sources to be split between the zones? Also, do you have any good speaker recommendations? I installed 6.5" rough ins, they could be cut out I suppose but I'd prefer to avoid that and just use 6.5" speakers.
Also, what do you think the difference would be sound quality wise between using the 1 amp like you did in your home vs using two amps bridged into 100watt 3 zones, so you'd have 2 3 channel amps doing 100w per channel ?
I'd love responses to this. Great summary. Subs would be nice, but these amps don't support a zoned sub.
I have a client with a broken NUVO system; After many failed attempts with NUVO technical support, we decided to switch to another system.
I watched your Videos and I think the best option is the Dayton Audio DAX66 amplifier, we have already the entire network of UTP and Speakers so, my question is .....
Do you know something similar to the NUVO NV-MPS4 server?
In this server you have 320gb of memory, it has 4 independent Audio outputs and you can control them from each zone with different audios simultaneously.
We will definitely buy the DAYTON system, could you help me with a music server compatible with this system?
Regads !!
Can you put more than one speaker on each zone? Can you discuss how the run the wires?
You can put up to 4 without using the pre-amp outputs. This video is in detail ruclips.net/video/dVjiZeCCnqA/видео.html
I am seeing a few different models of Amps now that work similar to the Dayton / Monoprice / Soundavo... Now a new contender is OSD... I just want the best model with the best features and the best price. :-) let me know what you think ... the videos you show are really good and very informative however would like a showdown !! if possible.
For the most part they are all the same. The WS66i is the best in my opinion because of the wireless streaming built in, as well as the app control module. It makes for a much cleaner install! I have a coupon code for the WS66i which gives $540 off of it. the code is TKMZ
Great vids. Can you use the green phoenix connector on the Monoprice panel instead of terminating with an RJ-45 if you want to?
Steve Thompson No, the monoprice units don't use phoenix connectors at all. The only phoenix connectors used are for the speakers to plug into the amp. Monoprice keypads are required to be terminated with rj45
Oh thanks. I saw the green connector at the top of your Monoprice picture, but now I realize they only have three conductors.
Steve Thompson yeah I'm not exactly sure what those are for
Can you tell us about the cut size for keypad? height, width and depth, I ordered the product but it takes a month to arrive, I want to finish the wiring and speaker installation :)
You would put these keypads in a standard electrical box OR more appropriate would be these low voltage rings. If it is an existing construction house you would use this amzn.to/2IvRAz8 otherwise if it is new construction you would use this amzn.to/2Iy6Ag7
Can you listen to this RUclips application
Thanks for you videos. I am about to install mine. I have a few questions.
1. What's you thoughts about Nuvo NV-18GM Grand Concerto Home Audio 8 zones 6 sources.
2. Can I add an additional 2 zone to the Monoprice 6 zones? Trying to save money.
I don't have any experience with the Nuvo Grand Concerto but looking at the price, it is expensive, even if you bought 2 monoprice units you would probably be cheaper than that amp. If you need more than 6 zones you will need to add an additional monoprice amp, and hook them together. This will give you up to 12 zones. If you need more than 12, you can hook 3 up, giving you an 18 zone, 6 source system.
A used Nuvo NV-18 on Ebay is less than $300. But thanks.
I need only 8 zones.
The ethernet switch looks very cool, what brand is it?
The block with multiple Ethernet ports? That's not a switch, and it comes with the whole home audio kit. So it's more like a proprietary hub device
Can you put a link in your description to the Ethernet to Serial adapter you used to have this controlled via the iPhone/Android app? Also, a tutorial on that would be extremely helpful. Thanks
Yes i will update the description for those and will make a youtube video detailing how to set it up. You would need these 2 things:
www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-iTach-Flex-IP/dp/B00C6FRPIC
www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-FL-SL-RS232/dp/B00CEK3VQ4/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_2/140-4457316-6930940?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00CEK3VQ4&pd_rd_r=GXKDWNXRZZ3RSHMTQ79K&pd_rd_w=xl7ge&pd_rd_wg=TPRL8&psc=1&refRID=GXKDWNXRZZ3RSHMTQ79K
The first link is their IP to Serial device that is hard wired ethernet. Alternatively you could buy their wifi model which is this one:
www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-iTach-Wi-Fi-Flex-WF/dp/B00C6FFM4Q/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522342242&sr=1-12&keywords=global+cache+itach
Thanks man - what about this one and just go direct serial cable? or maybe need a null modem/cross cable - www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-iTach-Serial-IP2SL/dp/B0051BU1X4/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ABE4TJDBRXVF1WEA1SH7&dpID=31gnxzlYlwL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail
I'm not sure, i would think it would work because it's made by the same company, but the developer of the app says to use the iTach flex models. And you are right, i don't know if the serial cable would be a straight through or a null/cross cable. They are almost the same price so i'd play it safe and stick to the flex models. But if you want to do an experiment go for it and let me know how it goes!!
Ok, cool. Thanks man. Are you basically setting a static IP on the iTach flex device and the app is directed towards the static ip on the network? Curious to know how the app knows where to direct its control to?
Yep exactly, static ip on the itach device, then it's just a matter of plugging in the cables. In the app settings, you just enter the ip address and that's about it. Then in the app you define your zones and sources. I would imagine for most (non technical) people, the hardest part would be setting the static IP. Aside from that i'd consider it plug and play.
If I purchase any of those..do I need to buy a speaker selector as well?
No these kits come with the volume selector controls. Check out my videos on my channel over the WS66i
I got the speakers left and right pre wired in 3 separate room and a home theater pre wire only. I’m having hard time setting up I have Ethernet receptors but the knob area has 8 wires and I don’t know how to connect and setup. Any tips? If possible explain end to end
Do you have the monoprice 6 zone 6 source system or some other system?
Nice comparison. Sounds like Google Home or Amazon Alexa could be sources for either amp but I'm not sure how a user would communicate with either device. I'm assuming Home/Alex would be connected near the Dayton/Monoprice. Any ideas or am I overlooking something? Thanks
You can connect them as a source and use them like normal and the audio would come through the speakers but you can't use them to turn zones on and off
@@TheKMZ1 Thanks, that makes sense. But there's really no way to ask "Ok, Google, what's the weather?" without a device the room (ie need a microphone or a means to feed the command back to Home/Alexa).
@@rdy4trvl that is correct, there is no way that I know of. They make devices that sit in the ceiling and look like small ceiling speakers but you recess your Google home or alexa into it. So essentially yes you would need them placed throughout the home from what I know
Do you think it’s possible putting 18 zones, and if it is do you think you can make like a print out or something on how to install everything
It's possible yes, you just need 3 of these. Check my channel out, for the new Soundavo WS66i
Can you tell me exact dimensions for installment of wall plate? and keypad size itself? For DAX66 thanks
It’s a standard single gang dimension, any single gang decora wall plate will work.
I need the part to make the dax66 app. Control
I have a video on that! ruclips.net/video/pNyZGhorjfg/видео.html
Can you just use the app mentioned in your other video? Not a big fan of the keypads
Yes you can just use the app
My home was built in 2012. Set up for six zone sound, but there is only speaker wire coming into the box that should contain the volume control. Speaker wire along with Cat 5e and cable running to central box in my office.
Sounds like I am limited to analog volume knobs without pulling Cat 5 to these zone boxes. Should I be considering a more simple amp system?
Paul Biggs you have a house wired for standard analog system. It uses analog rotary knobs which control the resistance to the speakers to change volume. If you don't want to run cat5 cable then you can get a regular whole home audio amp that works with your pre wired analog system
TheKMZ1 any suggestions?
What if I need a 5 speaker setup in my living room with a subwoofer
Mario Carb this system is not really meant for that. You would be better off doing a specific home theater setup and amp
Can the Dayton audio keypads be locked on one source? For instance one zone is a kids room and you don't want them to be able to pickup the livingroom source.
No they don't have that functionality unfortunately
I dropped speaker wire (1 for each speaker ) to centeral location. What else can I do as a prewire. Drywall is not installed yet
Ethernet cable for keypads?
Is it fair to say that with the app and iFlex you don't need the keypads at all?
That's correct you don't need to use them if you don't want
Awesome work. I just unboxed our brand new mono price 6 zone amp and saw that zone # 5 standby/on light is not lit whereas the other zone lights are lit. Any thoughts? Thx.
Did you ever get this resolved?
No I didnt
@@shariqiqbal3052 Weird, but is everything working correctly? Just that the light is not lit?
Only light is off, havent connected to anything yet.
@@shariqiqbal3052 Oh ok, well that to me sounds like something internal is not right, hopefully it's as simple as the light just isn't connected good. If everything works i'd just leave it as is. But if it doesn't work, then i'd send it back and then if you havent seen my new video on my channel, then i'd consider getting the Soundavo WS66i in it's place. This is the new updgraded monoprice amp. But if you return it for an exchange, it's still a good amp
Do you have any promo codes? I've been watching the mono price 6 zone for months. It hasnt budged in price
They don't really run promos anymore, I've been told the import cost has went up so they can really budget much on the price
How can I control unit with phone using mifi Hotspot that has no jack plug
You would have to use the keypads. The keypads for the amp do not run over your network, so you do not need internet or a network to run these amps.
So do you leave these multi zone amp on 24/7.
The goal would be to be able to play music anytime instead of going to central location to manually turn on amp each time.
The amp is on 24/7 yes but I personally do not keep all the zones on. I only turn them on when needed. The android app makes it easy to turn zones on when needed
TheKMZ1 thanks for the quick response. So if I want to send more power to speakers I understand that I need more amps, would they also stay on 24/7.
I’m not sure how powerful 25W per speaker at 8Ohm is.
Q3: I understand there are these two systems and the ones from HTD.
Which would be able to send most power to speakers?
the 25watts gets plently loud. I would say you could easily throw a party with that. It would be so loud you wouldn't really be able to have much of a conversation. So i would not underestimate it. Also, HTD is a better system, so if money is not an issue then go with them. But they are also 2x the cost
TheKMZ1 thanks.
So I have 6 zones with this machine of 2 speakers each. What if I wanted 4 speakers in let’s say 2 out of the 6 zones.
Would I be using pre outs for zone 1/2 and those per outs go would be used how to have zone 1 and 2 be 4 speakers each.
I’m trying to do this during a remodel so trying to finalize the plan.
Thanks for all the assistance.
I am not getting power to the keypads? Just got this system. Wired it in new house and I'm freaking out
So you have the keypad hub plugged into the amp with an Ethernet cable, and a keypad connected to the hub? With the correct address set on the back of the keypad corresponding to that zone
How many speakers I can connect to DAX66? I have 6 stereo speakers, (12 units) and 3 mono speakers, all together 15 speakers. Lets assume PHANTOM H-60 model
All of the specs are online, but 6 zones, 2 speakers in each or 1 if mono. If you need more you can buy another and link the 2 amps together for a total of 12 zones. You can add a 3rd for 18 zones
@@TheKMZ1 It seems we can connect 6 speakers to 1 zone as long as the Equivalent Overall Impedance is between 4Ω-8Ω
@@MrQaydi yes that's correct
Where can I buy the Dayton Audio DAX66 or the Monoprice unit in the video without the keypads ?
You can't, it's all a kit and they do not separate it

@@TheKMZ1 does the rg6 bring the sound from the source to the amplifier ? Or from the amplifier to the ceiling speakers

How does this compare to the HTD MC66?
Good quesiton, i have wondered that myself. I have emailed HTD to see if they are interested in sending me a unit to review and compare between the monoprice.
I hope they do, its a nice company and their products are nice and sturdy, I installed the HTD MCA-66 for a client of mine for over a year now he has been using it without any issues, A quick question, have you noticed any sound bleeding for other sources when playing from a different source, I saw a few complaints in the review on mono-price website although they mentioned its not very noticeable but its there so i'm wondering if you have noticed that too since you use Monoprice in your house and also wondering if the same happens with Dayton System

I have Dayton audio 12 zones but don't have the kepad controllers is there a way to control the dax66 without all them? Have you looked at the wfa400 at Dayton audio with the app control feature?
On my channel I have a video which talks about how to control these using an app. You can get the iTach Flex and the iTach flex RS232 cable, and then with the iOS or Android app you can control them from anywhere in your house. You do not need to use the wall keypads if using the app!
Thanks for the assistance but I can't find the itach flex, is there a site that handles this device? Also can you give me your thoughts on the WFA400 and the hy-fly app
I found the global cache itach flex I see there are several models since you made your video. Do you have a new video that explains the models?
I really like you videos, trying to get a plan together to clean my home network, audio ,CCTV, coaxial cable up. Which all runs to Central location like your parents home.
@@dm-zx7tc for the itach flex there is really only a wifi model and a wired ethernet model so pick whichever will work in your situation and then don't forget a name brand itach flex rs232 cable. Don't get a generic cable they will not work
So with the Dax66 and itech flex setup is the WFA400 not needed for the streaming. I seen when you were programing your Android app you assigned inputs as RCA in rooms, so I'm assuming you ran long RCA or converted cat 5 to RCA some how so you stereo or cd player is a room. Is this correct? If so what did you use
I’ve been watching for a Monoprice sale on the 6 zone audio set up for several months and haven’t seen it go on sale. Where would one find a coupon code or Monoprice discount? I’m not finding anything....

So if you purchase this amp do you still need a receiver for your surround sound in the living room?
David Dossman yes, a surround sound and its own speakers would be separate components totally different and not connected to this system
Thank you for the information
@@TheKMZ1 Could you have the living room be 1 zone which has its own receiver? @@ChadAmI80 no it's not meant to be able to do that. If you need surround you'll need to look specifically for a surround amp, the monoprice amp does have pre amp outputs though.
