Great review! Thanks for your work & effort.
This is a great set, no doubt. I love mine so far. It works great on a fire, with an iso-butane stove, propane stove & even my kitchen stove. My only criticism is the carrier pouch. It needs a lot of work. It fits in it just fine but mine came with a broken snap and it’s just cheap & flimsy overall, in my opinion.
This will barely fit in the CLS “Mother” canteen carrier. But it’s not worth the struggle. The outer lips of the canteen, canteen cup & the smaller cup make it almost impossible to get it in the pouch. Getting it out is even more difficult. So that’s a no go.
I’m thinking perhaps a Helikon Tex Essential Kit Bag might be the way to go but I won’t know until I get one.
Does anyone have have any other ideas? If so please let me know.

I have a similar struggle with the Helikon-Tex Essential Kitbag. It fits, but it is not worth the struggle. The Helikon-Tex E&E Pouch is the best fit with only one issue. If you have the curve of the Pathfinder set facing the front of the pouch, the large cup handles tend to slide into the inner front sleeve and prevent the set from going all the way to the bottom of the pouch. The simple solution is to have the curve facing the back when there is no sleeve. This really isn't an issue so far, I will know more as I continue to use the canteen set. If it becomes an issue I could always just cut out the front sleeve and stove the lid under the canteen in the pouch. Thanks for watching and the comment.

Maybe I got lucky, but I was actually pleased with my carrier pouch. I have no problems getting the canteen in or out, and the carrier has so far held up well. Not disparaging your experience, just sharing an alternative experience is all. My issue with the set is it doesn’t really fit with any of my gear. None of my rucks are made to accommodate a G.I. Style canteen set. Nor any of my haversacks. All are designed for the bottle style setups. I like this setup, however I am constantly leaving it behind in favor of my bottle style Ti bottle w/ nesting cup.

Holy frkn crap brother. You're a Marine ? As what, a General's buffet chef ? I can cook meals using just about anything. A tin can, aluminum foil, a soda can, a bamboo stalk, a stick. Heck, I can even boil water in a soda bottle. I can even cook on a car engine. I've used my inexpensive Made in AMERICA, U.S. G.I. mess kit for 30+ yrs. Old school is cool school. Don't fall for these (made in china) Ti gimmicks.

All of this was assembled several years ago. I have the Keith canteen cup and my Firebox Titanium Nano Gen 2 stove would not fit in it. I found a Maxi ( Large 950mm ) titanium cup . The firebox titanium Nano , it's X box , the cloth case , a titanium Evernew alcohol burner and a Human Gear go-bites duo ( fork / spoon ) fits inside the cup. The lid has drain/steam holes. All of it fits inside the carrying case that came with the Maxi Cup. The whole outfit when packed has a combined weight of 16 ounces including the carrying case.
    The Maxi's width is , 5.90 inches ( 150mm ) , Height , 3.93 inches ( 100 mm) , weight 5.71 oz ( 162 g ) , Volume 32.12 oz , ( 950mm ). I did not get the canteen since I use Smart Water Bottles.

A note for Canadians: you'll end up paying $100 in shipping and import fees alone, save yourself $150 and get the boundless voyage version on Amazon with free 2 day shipping and half the price.

Gotta agree. I am intending on picking up the Pathfinder set because I have a slight... *ahem* ...addiction to titanium cookware/bottles/canteens. But I am at a loss why they’re deviating from being backward compatible with the USGI canteen standard though? That would be my first design priority.
Baffling... but I guess if you don’t intend on mixing and matching isn’t a huge issue.

@@MrTangent Dave discussed the process of getting this set about a week ago. It was a Design the factory had. But other than my Preference for the USGI style this is a good set. I have used it with my USGI canteen cup stove stand and a alcohol stove( I always carry two canteens) and it worked great. Just watch for food sticking along the bottom between the wall and the raised middle.

With the nalgene bottle, the loop of the lid can be pushed under the wide r flange bit (there's even a slight cut off on the flange so may be an intended design option - start at the cut-off and twist the loop around while pushing down firmly)

It's an American company, but this particular product is still made in China. Doesn't bother me, but I was kind of hoping you would compare Boundless Voyage's Ti set that looks completely identical to the new pathfinder set. Off the top I know the BV is a bit heavier, and about $100 cheaper, but I was wondering if there would be any other significant differences that would justify that price difference. Still on the fence about which of the two I should invest in as it's definitely pricey.

I was more interested in Keith because of it's more rounded shapes especially if i take it in my sleeping bag over night, i don't want sharp corners pointing at me, and round shapes are typically more robust. But now that i see there are some differences in caps, i wish to know which one is more reliable, as it would be a disaster if it opened even slightly and leaked in the sleeping bag in winter? I heard some people talk bad about Keith's cap, is that true? My old plastic canteen takes 2,5 turns to open the cap, while Keith takes 0,5 turns. That's a warning sign already to me.

When it is all said and done, it’s just a water container and a couple cook pots. But they are very nice and feed my need for titanium gear. 😁. Thanks for watching and the comment. I’m looking forward to more of your cooking videos.

Editing my comment: I was suggesting Kieth Titanium but looks like they are just another Chinese company masquerading as a US company.

Keith not only produces in China, but is actually a Chinese company.
      *About Keith Titanium*
_Founded in 2001, Keith Titanium makes a line of products ranging from cookware and cutlery to tea sets and multi-tools, all designed with ultralight backpackers and family travelers in mind. The Chinese company has developed a reputation for producing upscale titanium outdoor products, and the team takes pride in the research and development behind each one. In 2016, the company officially marketed the Keith Titanium brand in the US market and has been expanding its reach ever since._

@@eadghe you are right. Their website says “2016: We founded Keith Titanium Inc. in California ,in Paris and in *China*”. I don’t think the China part used to be on their website or I didn’t read past founded in California, but it looks to be a Chinese company masquerading as a US company. Their CEO is DONGJUN LI and the U.S. branch has 5 employees so I’m pretty sure they aren’t manufacturing anything here.

If I were to manufacture an American made kit what would you be willing to pay?

Ok, let's back the truck up Jack. This made in CHINA COPY of the tried/battle proven U.S. G.I. canteen kit (1/2 of mess kit) is a great deal of aprox. $200 (NOT !!!) And it won't be compatible with the G.I. kit because they're not even compatible with other kits, a marketing ploy to buy JUST THEIR KITS if you lose a part. I've had (bought) my GENUINE MADE IN AMERICA, OFFICIAL U.S. G.I. tough mess kit since 1985, when I left military service, same kit for 30+ yrs.and it STILL serves me very well today. No gimmicks. Price for the ENTIRE G.I. mess kit at a military surplus store today is probably under $50 or less (incl.insulated canteen carrier). I don't need to sell a precious body part just to cook using Ti (the gimmick) when I can even use a tin can. I've even cooked food on a (rinsed clean) flat rock. Oh (!), and IF I ever lose any part(s) of my kit, it won't cost my left nut to replace at the military surplus store. What I'm trying to say is that just because it's an extremely high priced gimmick doesn't mean that it's better. You didn't mention that nor compare those high priced knock-offs with the real deal (unless you were paid so). Its bug out/camp cooking. Kill it (or open can/pouch), cook it, eat it, clean it, smoke a cigarette and done.. Who are we supposed to try to impress, 'Frasier Crane' ?
'Oh Niles, is that the latest ruffian Ti cookware ensemble ?'
'Why yes Frasier but the instructions are not in French. I will never figure this out.. Luckily, I had the forethought of bringing a chef so we can rough it like the real men that we are. Oh Daphne !'
Jmho. This Soldier shouts AIRBORNE !

It's just very pricey and overrated. Though it's nice that it comes in a self-contained kit ready for the outdoors. But seriously, digital camo? Why go with the absolute worst, most hated camo pattern for the canteen cover? Makes no sense.

    • @BarnYardOutdoors
      @BarnYardOutdoors  3 года назад +1

I’m not a fan of the digital camo either, I prefer having this kit in the HelikonTex E&E pouch.

I took a closer look at that E&E pouch after you mentioned it in your video. Really liked what I saw. Wish it came with a shoulder strap. But liked it enough that I bought it for a different _mostly_ titanium Canteen Mess Kit.
