Hi Emma, when Freddie Mercury died, Queen asked John if he would like to join the band, but John had 2 young sons and a wife and he is a family man and didn’t want to leave Australia 🇦🇺 because of his family and he was already very popular in his homeland with a huge fan base and a huge career. 🇦🇺🦘👏👏👏
He actually sent them tapes and was willing to give it a go but in the end both the band and John decided the fit wasn’t right.
Freddie suggested that John replace him in Queen, however John's children came first.

Seen him a few times in concert, had the chance to deal with him professionally on one occasion. Really nice person, very humble and friendly, and surprisingly soft spoken considering how loud he sings.

This song is over 35 yaers old and follows me my whole life. I remember the performance at the Olympics opening ceremony in 2000 - together mit Olivia Newton-John - wonderful.

And this is at the END of a 2 hour concert.
I saw him in concert and he was Lionel Ritchie's support act. He killed it, as per usual. The audience wanted him to stay. When Lionel came on, people started to leave, because John was just too good. That's an Aussie for you. Sending him healing wishes.

You should check out the version where John sings with Mitch Tambo and Brian May . Mitch sings the lyrics in one of our indigenous languages. Beautiful.
He's well-known in Australia for having a decent set of pipes and in this piece he has a reasonable backing band!

Emma, it is funny you made reference to Farnham's voice with Freddie Mercury because it was rumoured that John was approached by Queen after Freddie died.
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert is the best one as they had a live bagpiper, instead of the pretend one in this clip.

And AGAIN another reaction video misses that John hurls his mic stand into the air (06:12) and catches it - one of his well known tricks on stage!
Or my personal favourite, when he flips/throws the stand, completely misses and carries on like nothing happened. 😂😂
