Hi everyone! Unfortunately my first edit of this reaction was blocked, I've done my best and I hope you can still enjoy this version! I will endeavour to get the full edit online in the future but in the meantime, if you'd like to watch the full video with no mask/stops, I've posted it on Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/84313445? 😊

The Orchestra always loved playing for John. By the end of a concert he has usually introduced them all and his band and backup singers that we all know well. I have always loved how everyone there is as important as he is to him. I don’t think he ever knew he was important. Thank you.

Farnsy is an amazing artist and sadly underappreciated. I know I didn't give him enough credit when I was a teenager growing up, listening to him through my mothers song choices. I find it interesting that I now see reaction channels worldwide giving him his due credit, that I took for granted, but can now appreciate.

I 100% agree. I'm almost 40 now and when I was a teen in the 19s and early 2000s I would always skip his songs as it was my mum's music but actually he is an amazing artist that I appreciate in full now.

He actually threw the mic stand high in the air ... caught it before it hit the ground ... then threw it away. All while singing.
Check it out. There is a change in camera angle between the throw and catch.
Also he retrieves the mic stand later in the song with a very cool flick of his foot.
Love your emotion to this song. I also cry every time I listen to it.

Thanks for the great reaction,The song is very well written and brilliantly delivered by John.John has a voice that no matter what he sings, Ballads,, Rock, Opera, he delivers every time every song John gives a 100 percent. The mood you’re in when you listen to John changes he fills with feelings of joy and happiness. The feelings for me have gone on for fifty years, He will always be G.O.A.T. To me I’m just another one who will tell how we love and respect John, some reactors say he sounds like this one or that one but to Aussies he is The Voice, and there will never be another who sounds like JF❤

40-odd year old Aussie here, whose been to several Farnsy concerts. The man is a machine on stage, he comes from that era that made their living doing live gig's - just the sheer amount of emotion he puts into the performance, is palpable in the audience. And this song in particular, aside from being the highest selling Australian artists song for decades, just makes you feel something, whether you heard it when it was released, or for the first time now, the lyrics still ring true to this day. It's magical.

Hey Nina. Certain songs you could say are almost supernatural in their composition. This is such a song - an peace anthem of unity. A call to arms to reject fear and violence. Extraordinary. Check out John's 'When The War is Over' from the same concert. Another emotional anthem of a soldier returning home.

Oh please ! She talked / sang / cried / Talked some more & then cried again 🙈👎 She stuffed his performance by stop start at every turn 🙈👎 The best reactors listen to the full performance or maybe stop video once & then comment & break down the performance at the end ! She sang / had cry twice ! & Stopped his performance way to many times ! Not to mention she continuously spoke over him 🙈 She made it all about herself..👎 Steve from Qld Australia 🇦🇺🏄‍♂️🍹

@Raelene Williams I know what Reaction video's are & the concept of them ! But she could stop less times & comment & break it all down at the end of the video like most good reactors do ! She made it about herself by singing / crying / talkin over the top of John's performance ! & way to many stops ! She would appreciate the video & performance i think if she watched & listened in full once & then watch again & break it down & explain her views on it ! She cried twice & spoke during the whole video & frigg me she also sang a couple of times & talked over him 🙈👎 That's not how the good reactors do it ..

That song was a phenomenon when it came out in the 80s. It made him the biggest name in Australia but for whatever reason he didn't become known outside Australia, but we knew he was special, that this album was special, that this song was a masterpiece. It's so strange reliving that now, seeing people new to his music, reliving the phenomenon. Looking back, some incredible music in Australia in the 80s was missed by the rest of the world. We all knew the British and American stuff, but I wonder what hidden gems we've all missed from other countries.

John Farnham has to be one of my favourite male vocalists and this must have been an amazing concert to be present at - the energy in the room just hits you. I had the pleasure of seeing John Farnham sing this live when he was a surprise act at a Prince's Trust concert in Birmingham many years ago and he did not disappoint. Walked on the stage and introduced himself with 'I'm John Farnham and I'm an Australian', and then just launched into 'I'm the Voice'. Just magical. Love your reaction to this. Both this and also his cover of 'Help' reduce me to tears every time. Besides the performance what a powerful message these lyrics deliver.

Playing to win from the same concert is up there with YTV, Help and IALWTTT from the same concert they are peak Farnham and as much as YTV is a unifying anthem and Help is a plea so Playing to Win is dynamic and energetic and motivational. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
Also, and I've seen it mentioned here previously, Angels with Lisa Edwards (backing vocalist with crimped hair and studded bodice and herself in possession of a stunning voice) is a treat. The friendship and admiration they have for each other is palpable have your tissues handy.
And lastly Black Dog the Led Zeppelin cover which is the song Farnham and the band use for a sound check will BLOW YOUR MIND (sadly no video only audio on this as it was not a song he performed in concert (maybe a couple of times but no video of those) he out Zeppelin's Plant.

The greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time. And the stage presence and an awesome performer all round. Often throwing his mic stand meters in the air and catch it while still performing, John loves his mic and mic stand tricks, whenever he starts playing and winding up the mic stand you know he’s going to do something with it.

John Farnham has protected the rights to this song for a very long time.
Australia is now at Constitutional crossroad, a moment where we can acknowledge 65,000 years of occupancy on the land we call Australia and accept the invitation from traditional owners to walk with them, to listen to their story, to make us all better.

Mike was old school, really brave, as hard as nails, fierce when necessary, funny as buggery & he literally saved my life twice & I'll love him forever !!!
We're pretty sure he & John had met before but at a big show in Melbourne Mike asked John if he could say a quick hello to his daughter who suffered terribly with Spina Bifida.
John went way beyond Hi & spent a good & precious half hour with Mikeys daughter signing autographs, giving her souvenirs, a big cuddle & more.
She died early in life from her illness but talked about that night ever since.
    So still do we.

It doesn't matter how many different people react to this performance, and only seeing him throw the microphone stand across the stage; barring one reaction out of over 20 reactions, you all missed the fact that he baton tossed it in the air before throwing it. John's wife Jill keeps telling him off for how he likes to twirl or toss the mic stand around; it is now, one of his signature antics. So you need to watch his performances more closely, because you never know when he's about to do it or someother antic on stage; he can be very self-effacing, and really funny(he even says he's a bit of a 'goofball').

His first song "Sadie the cleaning lady" came out in the 60s Thankwhen my daughter was only 2 and john was about 20. whenever it came on the radio she would grab her toy broom and mop and start cleaning the floor to the music so john singing allways brings back a spesial memory. "John Farnham - Please Don't Ask Me - TV Talk Show Version"
It gives an idea of John the entertainer as well as a live, unwarmed up/ surprise version of a song he hadn't sung for ages :P
It shows how good the skills and teamwork of the aussie entertainment was in those days.

Before throwing the mic stand across the stage he tossed it up in the air and caught it, then threw it. 15.12.23. UK. E❤

The venue used to be The National Tennis Centre (stage 1. built 1988) to host the Australian Open. Outer courts were added over the years. There were two centre courts The Rod Laver and the Margaret Court (courts) and later another major court, the John Cain Court. That John Farnham concert was held there in 1989 when the capacity was 14,820-ish. It was the first tennis venue in the world to have a retractable roof, so good for concerts. I really enjoy your heart felt analyses. The John Farnham cinematic documentry playing now in Australia is said to be being followed up by a CD and DVD release available to a larger (hopefully international) audience.

Really chuffed that you like our legend John and his music. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions to him. You've now heard the sax solo and the bagpipes. If you would like to hear the piano solo watch 'Age of Reason" from the same concert. Figured you would like this as you are a pianist yourself. Thanks Nina!!

You missed one of the most extraordinary things in the stage performance. It was just before he throws the mic stand away. The camera angle is behind him and he throws the mic stand, spinning, 3 metres into the air and catches it with one hand. Have a close look at 6:41

I’ve watched this clip so many times just for the throw catch throw of the stand. It’s otherworldly

I'm old enough to remember when this song was released and i love it as much now as i did back then. It was only recently that i realised the lyric wasn't "we rob someone's daughter, we rob someone's son". Can't imagine how many times i've sung the wrong words in all those years.

I am loving your reactions; try John Farnham & Anthony Warlow (Australian Opera & Theatre singer) singing: Granada. John rocks opera, and Anthony is also very talented and funny.

I found your video jumpy & for those who aren’t familiar with the song, it sounds a bit odd. We love that you love our John, he is indeed & will always be The Voice. Again, thanks for entering the John Farnham rabbit hole!
