Beyond thrilled that you reacted to the John & Celine video - I wasn’t expecting that because the quality & videoing wasn’t at all great, so was just sending for your own interest! But Boom!!, I was just casting your reactions to the TV to show my elderly Mum (quite possibly Australia’s biggest Farnsey Fan) & Bam💥 - you were saying my name and your fabulous first attempt at pronouncing Tasmania 🤣 so freakin cool!! Can’t wait till you get time to react to my other request! Peace out legend!! ☺️

Celine told everyone the one person she wanted to sing with when she came to Australia was John Farnham. Notice how the whole audience was singing along with her before John joined her. Everyone knows "You're The Voice." When John came on stage it was electric, the audience went wild. John is such a humble, likable guy, he always seems a bit surprised when all these other great singers rave about him and want to sing with him.

I'm glad you enjoyed this video of Celine Dion singing "You're the Voice" with John Farnham.
I'm an Australian, and I was shocked when first seeing this. And, believe it or not, Celine Dion is a fan of John Farnham, and she sings his song "You're The Voice" to help John Farnham be known outside Australia. She even says to have an I-Pod with all of John Farnham's songs when she's on a world flight. LOL!
You've also probably noticed how John Farnham sings on stage, he was holding the mic further away from his mouth. That's how powerful his voice is. And it even made Celine Dion herself jump back. Whether it was a joke on her part or not is unknown, but you can tell that Celine Dion has great respect for this great man. They don't call John Farnham "The Voice" for nothing.
In fact, John Farnham has sung with many singers. There is even one of him singing the Foreigner song "I Want To Know What Love Is" with USA singer, Laura Branigan. I highly recommend you to see that one.

It's also because of the Lyrics. Which is why it's an Anthem here in Australia.
"You're the Voice, try and understand it.
Make a Noise and make it Clear
    Oh, Whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence, We're not gonna live with Fear
    Oh, whoa!!"
    The Message is Powerful.
Very relevant today with what's happening.

I was at a live concert he did in 2018, at the age of 70. He sang all his hits, including this one, in the original keys, and he never missed a note. He hit all the high notes pitch perfect. For my money, John Farnham has to be the world's best vocalist. Not only for his range, control, vibrato, pitch perfect tone, but for his ability to sing a song like no other (the arrangement of his vocals). Still as good at 70 as he ever was.

John Farnham explained why he never tried the US. He said unlike Europe the US music industry is very compartmentalised and if a song is a hit in one area it doesn’t necessarily spread across the country. He said US music stations didn’t know how to classify him and frequently refused to play his music.. Elvis had the same problem starting his career. JF also said “singing isn’t the most important thing in my life”. His family and quality of life was more important than the fickle adulation of the public. He’s successfully been married for over 50 years and raised a happy beautiful family hand in hand with his wife, Jill. Now that’s a man with his head in the right place. Solid values of loyalty and humility.
Please get well John. A nations LOVES you.

In this reaction you look just like we do when we're at a John Farnham concert.
Yes, he still sings, and he still sounds like that.
After the terrible firs in Australia a couple of years ago, just before Covid hit, there was a Thank You concert to raise money. Queen were doing concerts in Australia at the time, and offered to give the venue and their support to the concert. John Farnham at 70 performed You're the Voice with Brian May, others and especially a young Indigenous Australian who sings You're the Voice in Language. It's worth seeking out.

He was still singing in his 70s. Listen to The Royal Telephone.

You asked about John still singing today. Yes. I saw him perform last year in February. Just before pandemic shut things down. It was at large, televised charity concert for firefighters. I was lucky to be in the audience there.
Of course he sang "you're the voice" in his set. I think he was 70/71 last year. Sounded great. But what made it even more special was he sang it with Mitch Tambo, an Indigenous Australian artist, who sang the lyrics in his native Gamilaraay language. Brian May from Queen was also up there on guitar with them. And Olivia Newton John joined them towards the end.

So glad you saw this one. She did a 60 minutes interview where she said she performs it all over the world but has to train the audience to do the call back. She said she always wanted to do it in Australia and it was the reporter that suggested she should contact John. You can find the original 60 minutes interview online as well as some footage of them prepping for this performance as a follow up. Johns 72 now so he would've been 68/69 years old here depending on when in 2018 this was.

John is a coordinated guy. If you’ve watched enough of his performances you see him throwing and catching mic stands (among objects thrown at him on stage). Did anyone else notice his little mic throw between hands at 6:24? The dude is nearly 70 and still throwing his mic around, I love it.

John Farnham interview on midday with Ray Martin - 1987
If you look up this interview, john talks about " your the voice" success, his album of the time and what happened trying to release it in America.
Its very enlightening on what it was like in those years.

Note: John Farnham has a very powerful voice, he often drops his mic to his chest when he powers his voice up. Great mic control.

There's a big chunk of Australian artists that are all some-what close-knit as a friendly community. I think some of it comes from it being a smaller industries back in the 80s and 90s. All being friends of Molly Meldrum, and sort of an extended "Hey Hey It's Saturday" family.
    There's a few In-laws in there too.

You can clearly see the respect John has for Celine in the way he holds back the microphone to not overpower her in the moment. So much humility. Also just wanted to take the time to say loving your appreciation to the Aussie classics. Keep doing what you're doing!

He did You're the Voice last year with Brian May and he still sounds the same, though he has a bit of diffculty with some of the long notes (he had a health scare in 2019). And then you remember the guy is now in his 70s and it's even more amazing.
