Having lived in Australia for many years, I came to realise that John Farnham is the greatest singer ever, and this song is the ultimate anthem to define what peace on a world scale means. 'We're all someone's daughter, we're all someone's son, how long can we look at each other, down the barrel of a gun'. No other song or singer has ever said it better or with more conviction.

Over 100,000 people were singing it on AFL Grand Final day 3 weekends ago. Robbie did a great job of getting the 100,000 to sing it without him
Robbie Williams did it. John's in hospital recovering from cancer surgery & his sons say John watched & had a tear in eye.
He has a wide.range. John Performed with Ray Charles.
As an Aussie I bought his greatest hits double CD for the car. His doing Queen's We will Rock You is excellent. I always see QE2 with Paddington in my mind when I hear the intro. His sound check with Black Dog is awesome

That together we have the power to be powerful. I've been a John Farnham fan since primary school. Say prayers for our Johnny as he's battling cancer. Thanks for bringing light to his music. John Farnham was offered to go overseas to become a big name in the music industry world wide a number of times but he didn’t want to be away from his family for long lengths of time and didn’t want to uproot them from their home environment to take them with him - it shows his values for family and loyalty to the country he loves- he was happy with his decision and gave everything he could to the music industry here - he was still recognised by many famous artists and musicians from overseas as a master singer who they admired 🥰👍🏻🇦🇺

Now you know why we Aussies call Farnsey the voice , this song is more relevant today than it was when it came out , any thinking person will get the message , he has other songs with a message as well like AGE OF REASON , IN DAYS TO COME , THAT'S FREEDOM and his tribute cover of Cold Chisel's WHEN THE WAR IS OVER ,all should be reacted too because all are relevant to today . All his concerts were phenomenal but this one was an experience to be part of my wife and I travelled a thousand miles to see it and were not dissapointed . My favourite Farnsey song was from his time with THE LITTLE RIVER BAND called COOL CHANGE although it was sung by the band's original lead singer first John's version is the best I've ever heard , check it out it's one of the most calming songs out there .

Absolutely George. I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve only just learned that the song was originally about domestic violence- I saw an interview yesterday with Farnsey explaining this.. I know it’s come to mean so much more these days, but I never knew this original intention/meaning - I guess when you see the official video clip that does actually make sense!!

@@Dr_KAP And I believe the songwriters were inspired by a protest march for nuclear disarmament in London's Hyde Park in 1985. The official film clip of this song is opened by what I think to be WWII footage, and then goes on to depict domestic violence in a contemporary setting. I guess that's what makes the song so timeless and affecting; that the listener feels a collective anger and response for violence of all kinds.

G'day mate, good to see that you're enjoying Farnsey. Growing up in Australia in the 80s p and another amazing Australian artist Tommy Emmanuel we're like part of the furniture down here and it's just fantastic to see a wider audience enjoy them as much as we have for decades. They're both very much cut from the same cloth in that they are absolutely and astonishingly amazing talents also both fair dinkum down to earth decent blokes and genuinely nicest people in public life you could ever meet on top of being Deadset friggin Legends in their own time. The craziest thing of all in my own experience is it's only relatively recently that both of them have come back into the forefront of my mind and I had the same thought about both when seeing them on RUclips which was 'Geez I haven't seen them in years what are they been up to? Play Anthony the same in both cases OMFG, that's what they're been doing. Improving!! F****** they were already off the friggin dial! 🤯.
    Hope someone sees this and read it and checks out;
'This time we're playing to win - acoustic Chapel version' by John Farnham personally it's the best thing I've ever heard perform & freely available on RUclips, John Farnham reactions but I have never seen anyone react to this.
As far as the free fish Tommy Emmanuel's concerned it really doesn't matter what listen to the man seriously does not hit a wrong note ever. The freak is like Mary Poppins whith a freaking guitar, practically perfect in every way. All these stuff on RUclips freely available and because he practically his own record label it doesn't pin anyone copyright as far as I'm aware but I want if I was to recommend one thing that everyone should see is Tommy Emmanuel TED Talk in Melbourne as in it he demonstrates and explains what is his doing and it is just mind boggling. He also explains why he does it. In his words he's not in the music business he's in the happiness business, he plays and we get happy.

Today is September 2024 and the lyrics of this song are still a very powerful message for all young people...
We have the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet before we get much older
    We're all someone's daughter
    We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear, oh, woah
This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing we can make it better...

Loving your respect for John. This was his “break back” song … his career was in limbo having previously been successful as a young “pop” star but radios would no longer play his music. This song brought him back from the wilderness and became a huge hit including in some European countries. This is why John was tagged “The Voice” - not only because of his voice but because of the song. The bagpipes send audiences nuts - a real feature of the song and John loves throwing the mike around in all of his concerts. Don’t know if he ever clonked one of the musos!! This song was the beginning of John’s second stage of success and he’s been singing for decades. Love him to bits.

This was the song that saved (reinvented) John's career. Believe it or not when it was released with the album that featured it in 1985-86 "Whispering Jack", John's career was at rock bottom, he was broke, considered a has-been from his Johnny Farnham "King of Pop" teen idol days late 1960's and early 70s, and no one in the music industry wanted to know. He couldn't get a record deal and his best friend and manager Glenn Wheatly mortgaged his house to pay for the record. When they tried to get air time for You're The Voice, believing they had something special, the radio stations refused to play it. They flatly refused "Johnny Farnham". Part of the reason putting his name out as John at this time was to try to separate from the early days, he had matured and his voice had matured. Eventually when they convinced a radio station to play it, the phones rang of the hook. It snowballed and launched him back to top of the charts and to this day remains the highest selling album by an Australian artist in Australia. John and Glenn never really looked back. And we all can see why 🥰

This song & his performance of it has just got better over the decades. This was not long after it's release in 1986. It's taken a life of its own now. It's known as Australia's unofficial national anthem, everyone young & old knows the words. But most don't know our actual full national anthem.
Singing legends, GOATS are in awe of him. Celine Dion fully fangirled all about him & thus she went crazy when she actually got to meet him. He is known as "The Voice" & yes he can sing any note, any genre, any key, any song - perfectly every time. But, it's not just that it's the way he delivers it, his heart & connection he makes in every single word he sings. He has every audience mesmerized. To top it all off he is the nicest, funniest (literally a comedian on stage) noble, simple bloke that EVERYONE loves.
He is up there as worldwide one of the best GOATS of all time & all those in that realm would agree. There will never be someone like him again. He has had a career spanning 60 odd years. Unfortunately at 73 he has cancer now & just had surgery which has likely meant he'll never be able to physically sing again. But, he has the most incredible legacy.
You need to check out "You're the Voice" in later years, the song & his performance of it has just taken on a life of it's own. Much like a fine red wine it's gotten better over time. His performance of it & the crowd reaction. It's actually now known as "Australia's unofficial national anthem". One which every Aussie young & old knows every word. 50yrs from now it will be just as popular.
Every mega star wants to perform that song here usually when they tour. Checkout a charity concert we had here called "Sound Relief" where Coldplay was on & surprised the crowd with Farnsey & the song. No one was expecting it. I still get chills watching it every single time, 100 x over. He was in his late 60's then.
Your right he sings any type of song & has. So the rabbit hole is deep. I only wish he had more of an online presence, social media etc Unfortunately he doesn't & much of what is on here isn't enough to really showcase his career. Quality of videos etc aren't the best. But nonetheless you could react to every song of his.
I'm sure others will tell you all the standard ones to do. But, make sure you also check him out in the musical he did which is Australia which is still the most successful one in Australia ever. He starred in "Jesus Christ Superstar" with some other incredible Aus artists. You'll need 20mins for that one. But worth every single second. You'll be completely lost in it, in him. I haven't the adjectives to ever do him justice.
Australia has a rocking music industry that really all support each other. Make sure for every Aus artist try to always react to LIVE performances, otherwise you may never do them justice.
Hopefully you'll see him from decade to decade over & over again. It'll be worthwhile every time.
