Yes...For some reason, Disney decided to address genocide in a remake about Sleeping Beauty. They couldn't make a diverse original movie on future Earth. They couldn't make an original fairy-tale based in the Middle-East (NOT ALADDIN, I was disappointed with that movie) with a white villain. They had to be "veryyyyyyy magical" so all the big hunchos and the assholes didn't get offended. Seriously though, this movie was so obvious I didn't even bother to watch it because I knew some genocidal crap was about to be pulled, even it it was on the backstage. Nope, Disney decides to go all realistic on this!

I can see how they could, but in a disney film full of magic, adventure and silliness i simply see them as other characters. I only meant the logic in a punishment where she becomes what she hates ergo she hates herself. People can construde this film and the dark fae into all manner of racial innuendos but at the end of the day ... its a kids film about fairies and princesses.

Then when it didn't work I thought nothing of it. Now I feel like a total idiot for not thinking about the Prince doing that to his own father! Lol, then again I guess I just found it too weird for a son to do that to his father but now I take that back. Lol

If the queen couldn't wake him with true loves kiss then why would he think it would work
He wasn't present when Mal cursed Aurora
Remember Michelle twisted Mals story and intimidated the ppl of their kingdom
So why would he assume he could kiss him and wake him up?
Remember it didnt work for him when he kissed Aurora so when Michelle kissed the king and he didnt wake he could've agreed with Michelle when she said "this is no fairy tale" (because she made mal seem evil again so true loves kiss couldn't have been a thing according to what she was telling ppl)

remakes and spinoffs are different. remakes are shot by shot recreations of movies / creations that existed in the past, and a ton of the live action remakes are such a downgrade from the animated originals, but the maleficent movies are special because theyre not live action remakes, theyre SPINOFFS. they tell a completely different story from the original animated movie of sleeping beauty. THATS what we need to do more if we want to do more live action disney stuff, SPINOFFS and RETELLINGS (example: why queen ursula hated king triton so much - ive heard theories that they are somehow related - or how the pridelands worked and thrived long before mufasa was king + how taka (scar) got his scar) not stupid bland remakes.

Remember when Maleficent was an awesome, charismatic villain?
    ...
    I miss that.

It had the Queen as the villain here and she was the best villain queen I can probably think of. Realistic and not mad or whatever, but actually IRL and real badass.

      Stefan Dakovski agreed.

      She still is.
Remember who's playing her in live-action? Exactly.
Of course, they won't be ballsy to keep that from the original.

    Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
    OK, but define "Evil".

The only good thing about that Beauty and the Beast Christmas midquel and failed TV pilot repurposed into a direct to video movie is that they sell off the idea that Belle spend months in Beast's castle which make her befriending the Beast, and the Beast improving his behaviour and attitude towards her and both subsequently falling in love with each other less abrupt.

So...how far is the castle from the village then?
Because Belle, Maurice, and then an angry mob led by Gaston keep going between the two.

It also makes you wonder though why no one ever wondered where Belle was that whole time. Maurice comes in, says Belle was taken by a beast, then Gaston can't find Belle anywhere and has to wait apparently months for her to come back so he can put his plan in motion. And he never put two and two together...? Hm, I was told she was kidnapped and she's been gone for months, no one's seen her anywhere, might be related...

I remember hearing the “real mother” line in one of the trailers and thought “I need to see this movie”
