Ryaquaza 1 and lets not forget the fact that he was just laying in his bed sleeping while everyone was initially so worried about him and after the queen was defeated nobody actually went to look for him...the KING of the kingdom...not even his own son The poor dude was cursed for half of the movie and then he just shows up like “oooh I am okay now, not to worry, proceed with the wedding on this field of corpses”
I shook my head at the ending. All those people were slaughtered in that battle, including human soldiers and the fairies, yet they don't even acknowledge them or pay their respects. I was expecting a mini funeral. Nope. Let's just get married today in this field of corpses around us :D
@@HeraldofMisfortune Agreed. If it was a darker movie I'd accept this ending but it isn't, it's a feel good movie, so a good ending that acknowledges all the dead or revives should be expected
I expected that too since they hinted that she had powers over life and death, transformation and resurrection so I believed that first she will die and then resurrect herself and all who died with her pheonix force flames. But apparently she only have power over her own life and death...
Honestly the fact that they had a character who betrayed her family, tried to murder her husband and systematically planned the genocide of EVERY non-human creature, and actually thought they could slap a comedic happy ending says a lot about how tone deaf Disney is as a company.
The ending was my biggest problem. There was literally a massacre, children could have potentially died, that leader died, the kingdom was destroyed and these bitches throw a wedding.
I was hoping they would have a goat dinner at the wedding. At the very least it would've been some kind of good ending. Like "what're we having for dinner" "oh I found this goat outside and had the guards grill it"
@@greenergrass4060 The thing is, the queen trying to run away and been cornered by the leaders of the race she tried to wipe out with that last shot of Bora right on her face could've been a perfectly ambiguous dark ending, not *saying* what happenend to her but leaving it implied. At least that would've fit the tone a little better.
This was because she was Phillips mother and if she would have died he would have hated whoever killed her and so she was left to live as a goat, and now she can no longer do the things she used to do, she can’t hurt anyone. And if she was killed by someone wouldn’t that just show that they were no better than her

It hurt hearing Aurora being called Maleficent's daughter. Also despite this movie literally being called "Mistress Of Evil",Maleficent still isn't very evil in it.
The title and the trailers were _very_ clickbait. The only reason I watched this movie along with my sister was because my mother was so hyped for this movie, and she also liked the first one very much (for reasons I don't even know).
"Children's movie" is not a valid argument Unless its soemthing like freaking care bears Edit: also disney used to be good. Their renaissance created movies we still watch today. Their movies are still good, but they could be better. I love Zootopia but I was really disappointed by what we found in the deleted scenes. Zootopia could have been so different, and, in my opinion, more interesting. But they changed it becuase it didnt go well with focus groups. I want disney to take risks again. I want them to improve, not stagnate.
@@Shoop400 And as an aspiring writer and a cartoonist, I am actually planning to write a story about saccharine villain as the protagonist and the sugar bowl heroes as the antagonist. It's frankly my idea since I'm too fond of "sugar bowl" cartoons and wanted the villain to be a central character this time as a deconstructive parody of pretty much everything about colorful kids cartoons. Also, I think Care Bears get the same treatment as MLP seems legit since the invention of the "Care Bear Stare" (aka the original Power Of Friendship).
@@poweroffriendship2.0 Aside from role reversal, what else makes this a deconstruction? Why are the "heroes" antagonists, is it misunderstanding, tribalism, or something else?
As someone who barely knew the original story myself (had bad seizures as a kid, and a lot of cartoons brought them on, so my family was super careful) I’d like to add my knowledge. As far as I know/knew: Sleeping Beauty was cursed by Maleficent. Fairies were there for... some reason. Sleeping beauty pricks her finger and goes to sleep. The prince killed Maleficent in dragon form. True love’s kiss woke Sleeping Beauty... Happily ever after, I presume? So yeah, not knowing anyone’s names, or most plot points, it can get a bit confusing XDX (Not hating on anyone, you’re all cool. I’m just adding my side)
@@NoArtisticLimitation Was the dragon thing really in the original story though? I remember it like this: The King and Queen had a party for their newborn daughter where they invited all the fairies in the country except for maleficent. There were 13 fairies, but because they only had 12 golden plates, one had to stay home. The fairies gave Aurora gifts, the first one gave her beauty, the second one gave her knowledge or something etc. and before the twelfth one could say anything, maleficent burst into the room. She was very mad that they didn't invite her, so as her 'gift' she cursed Aurora to sting her finger on a spinning wheel when she turned 16 and die. The King and Queen begged the twelfth fairy, who had not given Aurora her gift yet, to reverse the curse, but she could only weaken it. Aurora would still sting her finger when she turned 16, but she would only fall into a very deep sleep for a hundred years. The king immediately ordered to burn every spinning wheel in the country. All the fairies' wishes for Aurora came true and when she turned 16, she wandered around the castle where she found an old woman with a spinning wheel (presumably maleficent who tricked her). She wanted to try it for herself, stung her finger and fell asleep for 100 years, along with the whole castle, and thorn hedges grew all around it (that's why sleeping beauty is called what would be translated as 'thornrose' in the original German version). Word got out in the country, about the sleeping princess and the sleeping castle. Many princes tried to get to her, but they all died from the thorns. Eventually yet another prince tried, declaring that he was not afraid and would get past the thorns. But because the 100 years were just over, the hedges went away and let him through. He got to Aurora, kissed her and she and everyone else woke up. They got married and lived happily ever after. I didn't intend for this to be that long, but that's basically the original Grimm fairytale. It wasn't actually true love's kiss that woke her up, the prince just happened to be there at the right time and it was never really said what happened to maleficent. Disney just likes to make their movies more exciting and kid-friendly (it would be a pretty boring movie (for Disney standards) though if they stayed too close to the source material and didn't take any creative liberties)
Pipe Dreamer in the movie I’m pretty sure they said she was a descendant of a Phoenix of her kind’s great ancestors. Which is why she was able to comeback to life after being turned to ashes.
They did briefly mention about her being the last descendant of the Phoenix without greatly elaborating on that and not explaining why she grew up all alone in the woods and was never contacted up till now. That was their way of leaving material for another movie, sadly, I don't think they'll make it.
The only reason I let these movies slide is ONLY because of Angela Jolie. She’s the ONLY one that makes these films watchable. She embodies Maleficent perfectly.
Never liked Angela Jolene she not really a good actress only reason she is around is because thirsty men find her hot which I don't find Skeletor attractive. I still think her worst movies are gone in 60 seconds, and wanted
The moment I heard that Maleficent 2 would be another "one of a kind character finds that there is a entire hidden race of her species" movie I knew it would be terrible. I'm so done with this trope. It works occasionally, like with the How To Train Your Dragon series, but it doesn't usually work. It's sad because I really liked the first one, even though it had a lot of problems.
@Absolute Madness I think it wasn't the weakest part of the movie but yes it was done very poorly. Like why the fuck didn't they tried to contact the being closest to their ancestor (which basically makes Maleficent royalty among the dark fae I suppose) earlier ?! They knew she was there, ruling the... fairy kindom ? I don't know it's name in english. Why didn't they just joined her ? She protected the faeries by herself for years ! And they where basically an army of slightly less powerful maleficent (their wings seems to create blast of wind and they can grow vines too and some have shown sign of magic). Thay would've been unstoppable ! Really they could've turned the woods into a fortress constantly guarded and protected but they chose to remain hidden for years !

@@emeros8631 True enough, however, in human history, it is hardly ever *just* two different sides and those sides are never black and white. War is gritty and complicated but in the world of fantasy, it is typically two factions with one being wholly good, the embodiment of justice, niceness, and all that is good and the other faction being wholly bad, the embodiment of evil, nastiness, and all that is rotten in the world. It's a rather tired trope that tends to be depicted in large scale CGI battles that have become rather boring to see these days.
In Maleficent 1 they were all like "Yeah, lets break the cliché and make something different", but the sequel starts with the prince proposing to the princess... If she would have ended up with crow guy It'd have been way more complex cause he actually has somewhat of a character
I just rolled my eyes when I found out they were making a sequel to Maleficent. I really hate what they did to her in the first movie. Granted, Angelina Jolie was AMAZING as Maleficent, but in terms of the character, she's NOT supposed to be sympathetic. She's literally called the Mistress of EVIL. Having her protect Aurora, and being the one to wake her from the curse, just made zero sense to me. The first one didn't make sense, so I figured this one wouldn't make sense either. Hence why I'm not even bothering on watching it. This review says enough.
Well, to be fair, not only was the fairy of the original tale not exactly evil herself, but this is supposed to ve a different version of Maleficent than the animated Sleeping Beauty's.
Exactly I waa hyped for the first but man it was lame.. if u wanna make a villain sympathetic learn from joker. But maleficents origin being a lame ass love betrayal tale just made me punch into a wall..
I would've rather see how she became an evil character rather than retell Sleeping Beauty (which is my favourite Disney movie) I would rather learn how Maleficent learnt to use draconic magic, how she became notorious for being the dark fairy. Angelina Jolie is perfect casting but it was a terrible role based on such an amazing character. I also can't see Elle Fanning as Aurora-who was degraded from being an elegant and wondrous character to a giddy child, as where the three fairies who were badasses and savage
*_Well, I don't have any problems with Maleficent being a protagonist, but turning into a good guy is just a bad idea. I mean, she's a frickin Disney villain who is 100% pure evil and has no humanity whatsoever. She doesn't need to be complex or sympathetic because she's not made, she's born as an embodiment of wickedness hence her name._*
Not in the original fairy tale People can make infinite different variations on characters The original Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent is not the only one
I completely agree. I actually didn't mind Maleficent being an anti hero at first back in 2014, until I learned more about the original animated Maleficent. Now I am SO disappointed about Live Action Maleficent redeeming herself. I'm not saying that a Disney Villain Movie is a terrible idea whatsoever, but it would be nice if they DO NOT make the Villain give up her/his evil ways completely by the end of the movie. That messes up the whole point of being a villain. Edit: Although, I don't mind Maleficent having a tragic backstory. It gives her a reason to curse Baby Aroura so that she wouldn't be Petty. Not being invited to a Christening would serve as a Last Straw.

I didn't like the first one making Maleficent into an anti-hero, and this sounds like it's EVEN WORSE somehow. Goddamn, why not just make a movie where Maleficent is a villain? You can make movies about villains, Disney! Whatever, I hope this movie doesn't make enough money for them to continue making these live action garbage remakes.
Disney's been bleeding money so if we hope enough with are wallets they will continue to lose money and will have to abandoned there sjw, reboot, crappy sequels agenda because every 10 year you dont need to remake it for the new generation when you already made it 6 times before that
@@joehand2156 Disney's mostly losing money with their Star Wars stuff, so there's that at least. These live action remakes, though, have mostly been successful to an insane degree. Aladdin and The Lion King remakes all made a billion bucks. I'd rather they make limited re-releases of their older animated films, but Disney gonna Disney. I wouldn't mind these remakes if they were remakes of their least successful movies, thus they could fix the mistakes and make better versions, but instead they're all souless cashgrabs.
Maleficent was a train wreck in the first place. An iconic character whose visage and vocal sound sells itself whether the story is good or not. The title character should be left be. And to be honest, the original fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty is more bland than most of the others that have been adapted, and Disney's film later became popular on nostalgia than it was on initial release.
i love the first movie. i thought it was unique and visually stunning. but there's no reason to have made a sequel. just a cash grab, like everything else disney has come out with this year.
I agree with most points, but I have to counter a bit of them. For one, the queen does have a motive, albeit a cliched one. More than halfway through, she states her father wanted peace with faeries, and sent her brother to make contact. He never came back. Blaming her father, they eventually fell into poverty until she was forced to marry her husband. Again, cliched but justified. As for the gripe with Aurora's husband, I don't think he needed to be fleshed out any further. Maybe it's a personal opinion, but characters not central to the plot don't usually need to be fleshed out. As for Maleficent's raven servant (not that I don't remember his name, but I can't spell or pronounce it for the life of me) I thought it was a nice touch Maleficent turned him into a bear. She could definitely have remembered him saying that, people can act cold but remember every word you say, if they care enough. Which, sure, may not be Maleficent, but I do feel she cares for him on some level. Finally, as far as the ending goes, I completely agree. I loved the movie up until/around that time, and it just feels RUSHED. Like, I really think the movie would vastly improve if they had at least 20 extra minutes. The comedic ending felt like a slap in the face. "Oh, she attempted the genocide of my people, murdered my daughters aunt and a good amount of the citizens she knew as friends, basically committed war crimes, but I'm going to turn her into a goat because Aurora said killing is bad lol XD" if they had left the queen with the elder fae, or had her fall off the castle watchtower, it would work so much better than what we got. And the fallout, too. As Aurora gets married, the corpses of her aunt and friends are still probably in the church. If they had announced something like "Hey, we know a lot just went down, so the weddings off until we sort it all out. Until then, consider our kingdoms united and at peace." Hold a mass funeral and grave, explain to the humans what the queen had done, let some time pass, and boom, appropriate time to get married. Even down to the pixie guy, maybe the queen DID make him forget, but he would have needed time to reevaluate his entire life while he helps here and there. Also, I don't think you care, but the two characters with the implied romance at the end were the two woodland creatures, the hedgehog girl and mushroom boy. Anyway, I've been wanting to voice my frustrations, so thanks for the opportunity.
The original Sleeping Beauty is hands down better, despite what people might say about it and it's flaws. I love it. Probably my favorite Disney movie. and that was back in the early 60's.
It had much better aesthetic. The muted earthy colors were amazing and the animation style was charming and I prefer the angular, sharper look to the characters than the roundness that took over later. It looks almost like it is on paper and I like that. Also their prince was a fucking maniac badass who would have fought Maleficent with bare hands if the faeries didn't shove a sword in his hands. New Maleficent aesthetic is expensive CGI and their prince suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.
Stefan Makara I rewatched it Sunday and the part where maleificent talks down to him in the dungeon is my favorite part. Where he is SO ticked off that he wanted to probably punch her face, but he couldn’t because he hands were chained to the wall. That part always gave me chills, and he’s my favorite Disney prince.
It’s so underrated. Maybe it’s nostalgia talking but it holds up. Maleficent is one of the best villains in film, the entire 3rd act is so thrilling and badass, Maleficent luring Aurora to the spinning wheel is so haunting, Fauna, Flora and Merryweather are so much fun, I love the music and damn it’s gorgeous. I feel like people just dismiss it because Aurora is boring but she’s not even a main character anyway
0:38 What are you talking about? Finding Nemo was the go-to school movie. Never saw any of the Shrek movies in school (that I can recall) but probably saw Finding Nemo at least twice a year.
The ending was pretty weak. It seemed like the generic for kids ending you could give to a teen-almost-adult-movie-but-still-for-kids movie. Oh there was a war five minutes earlier? Let's forget about that and slap a happy ending. The same thing that I felt when I watched Wonder Woman. "Good start, climbing middle, but flat ending." In the words of my cousin.
Most disappointing thing is that they’re obsessed with making her good. I wanted that fucking dragon battle between her and Philip. That was the most cool thing about this story honestly
I watched twice in gold-class comfy theathre, ready to enjoy every second and be immersed, but the ending threw me off each time. The beginning to the mid story enjoyable but yeah, slapping comedy after scenes of murder, betrayal, and even genocide don't sit well with me.
I hate how the queen who committed literal genocide, tried to kill Aurora, betrayed her husband and the king, got turned into a goat because haha. I get it's a kids movie but I really but I really wish they'd done something
Ok but in the movie's defense: You are trying to universally change the mind of 3 generations about Maleficent the villian whom in EARLY DISNEY YELLED: "I SUMMON FORTH THE POWERS OF HELL!!!!!" It is hard to transcend the opinions of of around 75 years of people who all think differently.
1950-59 Walt Disney himself: i want a movie so beautiful and detailed in style with Eyvind Earle handpainted background, and with an *ultimate villain*. 2014-19 Disney Company: know what? Fck it! Mr. Disney is dead.
I mean to be fair the Queen has that hatred because one of them killed her brother after him going out and trying to take the Moors away from the magical creatures so that they had more land for food. Their kingdom was starving and her father didn’t want to just take the land, his kindness mirroring her husbands, therefore her hatred for him being a lot and her will to take things into her own hands and take that land for her people being also a lot. But it’s one of those, ‘just talk it out’ situations, you know? You might as well could have said it was for no reason.
@I see you through your window They never said they killed him. They said he never came back. Who knows ? Maybe he pulled a Stephan and started banging some tree. Or plotwist : The queen's brother is actually maleficent father and Maleficent is half human. Also the two kingdoms were planning to fuse and Aurora, a human became the moors's queen is human and her son's bride to be so there where no risk of history repeating itself. She had no real reasons for committing her genocide beside blind hate (kinda valid) and the movie needing a vilain
@@emeros8631 i really enjoyed this movie, but I hated how this plot never went anywhere. They just claimed he was killed but they never went any further.
This is what I’ve been trying to tell my friends, family, and co-workers. After over 100 years of cinema, Hollywood is creativity bankrupt. Fancy CGI, IMAX, 3D, Remakes, Sequels, Reboots, like stop. Enough with the trends and crap. I just wanna escape from reality, for an hour-three hours, and watch a thrilling, but moving story on the silver screen. Not Iron Man and the all powerful maleficent of the galaxy endginity War part one of five featuring John Cena. In IMAX. No. I just wanna see something on par with Star Wars.
I told my friends that maleficent was bad and they told me that I had to watch the first movie to 'understand' the movie. They told me the movie was great! That it was good! ARE YOU KIDDING? I was rooting for the movie to be good, to the point that I'd watch the movie on the opening day! The entire time I had a terrible time in the theater, especially during the 'war'. It was obvious that the entire movie was poorly written and I was really disappointed watching it. We have come to the point where majority of the public have accepted less that mediocre movies are good to be released in cinemas.
Queen: *curses the king with the enternal death and doesn’t love him back* King: *after hearing about all of this* let’s keep her that way Dazz: where’s logic? where’s common sense?
I also got nothing from Aurora personality wise, and even less from Phillip, so I didn't care about them marring other than they're the main couple! How hard is it to write 2 characters with depth and personality?!
Wow, said disney, cashing in on our old successes by making new movies out of them has failed! again! why don't we remake a waaaaaaaaaaay less popular movie that appeals to a completely different age group? that'll tide them over till frozen 2!
I called it! I knew this movie would suck. The first movie was terrible and making Maleficent sympathetic just doesn't work. That's like trying to make Claude Frollo sympathetic.
I disliked the trailer. Seeing the Disneyesque costumes was disappointing. The first film set the period in about the late 14th century. These costumes were all over the place, giving a generic "we're disney" "its for kids" so what? kind of attitude. That along with the modern table setting for the banquet, I thought "what the hell"? Then I saw the movie. What a CGI generated mess. Prince Phillip did nothing. Diaval did nothing. The king did nothing. We never found out why the queen hated faeries. Why was the pixie destroying his own kind? And wasn't he rather big for a pixie? Why did Maleficent come back from the dead? In the original story of Sleeping Beauty (Disney's) she died. With her death and the death of so many others the wedding of Aurora and Phillip would have been a way for the two realms to settle their differences and strengthen their alliance. The first movie had heart and characters you cared about. This was garbage.
Disney in the beginning: You know those fairy tales from the Grimm Brothers? Let's use them as our own, but do some rewrites. Disney now: You know those films we did based on the fairy tales we stole? Let's make remakes of those films.
I wish the story would be about Maleficient ACTUALLY being the dark villain playing as the main character. But nooo, we instead got this. The classic, "happy ending"-story, with zero sense and an recycled plot
1) The dark fae, in my opinion, were NOT necessary. Maleficent seemed like a character that could hold her own. Angelina Jolie is a FANTASTIC actress in this role, and she was held back by the plot. 2) The ending was incredibly jarring: we watched people/creatures die, yet that did not get addressed other than by the blue fairy being mentioned. Peoples family members have JUST died...rather brutally (either turning into dust or being maimed by intense violence), and yet they have the wedding continue that same day. Those were my two biggest gripes with the movie.
Same. While I was watching, I was noticing some big problems but I still had a good time. As opposed to the first movie where I don't think it's as bad a this one but I just didn't like that movie.
I was so pissed off at this movie and it was entirely because of Aurora's character and how she was acting throughout the entire film especially at the end when she was willing to let maleficent die just to not have the queen killed
U forget to mention that the reason why the queen has a deep hatred against Moore’s is bc her brother was killed by them and her people died bc the Moore’s occupied the good soil lands, if you paid attention maybe you could’ve catch that part of the movie
When I saw it in theaters, I thought it was ok, adter some thinking about it though, I realized just how much it sucked. Maleficent should've been in her iconic dragon form, not the giant burnt chicken we got.
I really liked the first Maleficent. And if you don't watch the first one, this one isn't all that horrible; however if you saw the original Maleficent this movie is insulting to the carachters and story. The first one was cohesive and well paced. Sure, it was based on the original fairy tail, which made it easier on the writers, but it was obvious they tried and put effort into the story, the adaptation and the carachters. I could see this movie being a guilty pleasure for some; but objectively, it's bad. EDIT: Also, I hate the three fairies. I already hated them in the first one, this one did not change my opinion on them. I hated when they tried to make us emotional about the blue one's death and I completely despised when they tried to pull off the "make it pink, make it green" bit. EDIT 2: Also, who was in charge of Aurora's and Philip's wardrobe? It sucked in this movie. EDIT 3: Also, the posters and the title made me think it would be darker or that Maleficent would at least be evil. It didn't make any sense.
Aw, I was actually excited to see this. Is the first Maleficent good? No. Is it actually fun and different than the rest of the remakes? Hell ya. I'm kinda sad now.
@Special Agent Washing Tub don't take someone else opinion for absolute truth. See the movies for yourself and make your own opinion of it. You don't have to hate it because people says it's bad ! It has its flaws. Many flaws. But it was still an enjoying experience forme even though it's cliche and all... I don't feel like a wasted my money. It was anice entertainment and a pretty decent movie !
I had fun watching it. If you liked the first one I recommend it. I don’t think this review is necessarily wrong but it nitpicks quite a bit. All in all it’s visually great and does some interesting things with the story.
It's actually kinda cool to watch in cinema... this guy is exaggerating every single thing he does not like personally. It's a Disney movie, with a comparatively wider range of audience, they have to make sure the movie pleases them, from little children to adults... so see for yourself, and let yourself be the judge... but this video kinda spoiled the movie already if you haven't watched... have a nice day!
Not forgetting the Aurora didn't show any emotion, or even realize that one of her "Aunties", who brought her up, (Flittle, the blue fairy) was dead. Aurora was like: "Nearly everyone I know is dead or distressed, idc I'm getting married 😁 "
I knew that this was gonna be a bad movie in the opening of the film When the narrator says that all the evil thing Maleficent did in the first film was SOMEHOW forgotten ( writing 10/10) But the girl I went to the movie with loved it and she didn’t se the blackholes of potholes in the film and I just nodded and said ......yeah it was good .... Also the king looks like the Burger King
I liked the first one a lot, I must admit. The storytelling was slow yet engaging, and the story had multiple adult-worthy messages. But as a writer, in my opinion, this one was *terrible* . There was just no point. It was awfully forgettable. Nothing really happens, it ends just as it begun, and there were so many things that made no sense... The characters seemed different people. *And are you telling me all the fairies in an entire kingdom fitted inside one chapel. Are you serious?!!*
ok but like i liked the movie?? Like i love it when movies got good depth but if they don't, i'm not rly complaining But this movie was beautiful graphically
I think the greatest insult of this film is to Jolie and Pfeiffer. These actresses are practically defined by playing the sinister femme fatale, the morally ambiguous badass, and the villain you secretly love. Disney already caught lightning in a bottle once by getting Jolie for the role of Maleficent, but pitting her against Pfeiffer had so much potential. And that’s what I found most disappointing of this movie: the wasted potential. If ever two actors were made for a story of complex characters, conflicting emotions, and two villains fighting, it was these two. But no, all of that was shoved aside under the vague argument of “kid’s movie”.
I personally think the "happily ever after" vibe was set in place so fast because it would make that happiness seem brittle and short-lived..... maybe we will really see the mistress of evil
King: *wakes up to the castle in ruin, his wife is a goat and Maleficent flying around*
Also the king: “this is fine”

I expected that too since they hinted that she had powers over life and death, transformation and resurrection so I believed that first she will die and then resurrect herself and all who died with her pheonix force flames. But apparently she only have power over her own life and death...
I know, right. Star Wars Episode 1 at least had that funeral scene for one of the main characters.

IKR?😂 I thought everyone knew the fundamental storyline for Sleeping Beauty🤣
Well, you have to understand that Sleeping Beauty is pretty old and the only thing people mostly remember from it is Maleficent.
As someone who barely knew the original story myself (had bad seizures as a kid, and a lot of cartoons brought them on, so my family was super careful) I’d like to add my knowledge.
As far as I know/knew:
Sleeping Beauty was cursed by Maleficent. Fairies were there for... some reason. Sleeping beauty pricks her finger and goes to sleep. The prince killed Maleficent in dragon form. True love’s kiss woke Sleeping Beauty... Happily ever after, I presume?
So yeah, not knowing anyone’s names, or most plot points, it can get a bit confusing XDX
(Not hating on anyone, you’re all cool. I’m just adding my side)
NoArtisticLimitation
You missed a small bit of info but you got everything in the right order of events. Congrats
@@NoArtisticLimitation Was the dragon thing really in the original story though? I remember it like this:
The King and Queen had a party for their newborn daughter where they invited all the fairies in the country except for maleficent.
When malificent went all final form at the end, why was she a bird instead of - you know, a big black dragon?
Pipe Dreamer in the movie I’m pretty sure they said she was a descendant of a Phoenix of her kind’s great ancestors. Which is why she was able to comeback to life after being turned to ashes.
I thought it was a dragon in cinema a weird bird faced dragon
Maybe the rumor was they saw her as a Dragon but she was in fact a Phoenix
They did briefly mention about her being the last descendant of the Phoenix without greatly elaborating on that and not explaining why she grew up all alone in the woods and was never contacted up till now. That was their way of leaving material for another movie, sadly, I don't think they'll make it.
Because when she got turned to ashes she became a phoenix which makes sense because the mythical birds pheonixes are born from ashes.
The only reason I let these movies slide is ONLY because of Angela Jolie. She’s the ONLY one that makes these films watchable. She embodies Maleficent perfectly.

@@emeros8631 True enough, however, in human history, it is hardly ever *just* two different sides and those sides are never black and white. I would've rather see how she became an evil character rather than retell Sleeping Beauty (which is my favourite Disney movie) I would rather learn how Maleficent learnt to use draconic magic, how she became notorious for being the dark fairy.

Bad fan fiction. There is good fan fiction out there.
How can Aurora ABANDON her mother's home JUST LIKE THAT?

Ok but in the movie's defense: You are trying to universally change the mind of 3 generations about Maleficent the villian whom in EARLY DISNEY YELLED: "I SUMMON FORTH THE POWERS OF HELL!!!!!" It is hard to transcend the opinions of of around 75 years of people who all think differently.
Anyone forgot about the first one
No
I mean it came out 4 years ago so...
@Ninja StrongHeart it's on Hulu
@Ninja StrongHeart Alright. I was just trying to help. But I guess you in a defensive mode. 🙄
Nope
Then again, what did you expect.
They should have stopped after the first Maleficent. They told the entire story. Adding additional fluff for more money.
We have come to the point where majority of the public have accepted less that mediocre movies are good to be released in cinemas.
rain az yes. Same
Queen: *curses the king with the enternal death and doesn’t love him back*
King: *after hearing about all of this* let’s keep her that way
Dazz: where’s logic? where’s common sense?
I also got nothing from Aurora personality wise, and even less from Phillip, so I didn't care about them marring other than they're the main couple! How hard is it to write 2 characters with depth and personality?!
When I was coming out of the theater some guy said to his wife "that was fun I give it two horns up" and for that reason I love the movie
Honestly, I would take a standalone Merriweather movie over Maleficent any day.
These movies did Sleeping Beauty dirty. I recommend you just watch the original (especially if you haven’t seen it before).
FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS SOMETHING! THANK YOUUUU!!!
Wow, said disney, cashing in on our old successes by making new movies out of them has failed! again! why don't we remake a waaaaaaaaaaay less popular movie that appeals to a completely different age group? that'll tide them over till frozen 2!
One of the most unnecessary movies ever.
*innocently makes emoji movie noises in a corner*
Disney in the beggining: We care about movie quality and and our buyers!
Disney now: Hey dude, money talks!
Bruh, shrek the third? No, no no. The second one is where it's at.
Philip had more of a character in the original Sleeping Beauty.
I'm most frustrated that there wasn't more Maleficent in a Maleficent movie.
The strangest thing was when suddenly a fanmade series of the other horned species came out of nowhere.
ok that ginger kid scared the shit out of me in the cinema. WHY DO THEY LOOK SO CHILL ABOUT MUSICALLY COMMITTING GENOCIDE IN A KID'S FILMMMMM
I really enjoyed watching the movie, but I do also realize how bad it was
2014 Disney: Maleficent is actually good!
2019 Disney: nah never Mind, she is argumentative and starts wars! :D
@@minniemystic I probably won't see it in theaters, but I'll pick it up at some point
I knew that this was gonna be a bad movie in the opening of the film
When the narrator says that all the evil thing Maleficent did in the first film was SOMEHOW forgotten ( writing 10/10)
But the girl I went to the movie with loved it and she didn’t se the blackholes of potholes in the film and I just nodded and said ......yeah it was good ....
Like i love it when movies got good depth but if they don't, i'm not rly complaining
But this movie was beautiful graphically
True love's kiss
Disney: I'll do it again.
I personally think the "happily ever after" vibe was set in place so fast because it would make that happiness seem brittle and short-lived..... maybe we will really see the mistress of evil
I only liked the visuals
This is one year ago but i agree
the first movie had narration which was dumb and changing the story was not a idea as well. I like Maleficent as a freaking villain .
