A small detail throughout the film is that whenever Gothel is making contact with Rapunzel, she constantly touches her hair. Whenever she hugs Rapunzel, she touches her hair. Whenever she kisses Rapunzel, she kisses her hair and not her forehead. Meanwhile, Eugene is always brushing the hair out of her face, and touching her face, or hands. He wants to get to HER, and is trying to get the hair out of the way.
yeah, and being the hair was also holding her back, he cut it all off, so she can be free from not only long hair, yet the mental chains that mother gothal placed in her mind.
2010 truly was the golden year of animated films. Tangled, Toy Story 3, Megamind, How to Train your Dragon, the first Despicable Me... man what a great year.
I also see Eugene cutting Rapunzel's hair to have another significance. Rapunzel's hair essentially kind of serves as a timeline of her life, having been with her since she was born, and continues to grow with time while it was never cut. So to me, Eugene cutting her hair so close to her head kind of symbolizes how he’s freeing her from the 18 years she spent in the tower and have a new start once and for all.
Her hair is also a metaphor for her chains locking her in the tower and with gothel. Cutting the hair is freeing Rapunzel from her chains, freeing her from Gothel
Which is why I love how in the series when her hair grows back shes worried and tries to cut it since it reminds her of that time but eventually realizes that this is now HER hair that she has control over and she loves it. Its no longer her chains but her freedom
Can I just say, Rapunzel's I Want song is actually really sad because it's so much stuff we take for granted? Being under the open sky, feeling grass, and other such things are so mundane to us, but because she was a prisoner, she never got to experience them. It really makes you think.
Can we all agree that Eugene Fitzerherbert is the best Disney prince?! The way his character develops throughout the movie is astonishing. He was an orphan who had no friends or money, which resulted in him becoming a thief who believed his only option to be happy was to steal it from other people, but eventually realised he is capable of being happy after spending time with Rapunzel. That’s so beautiful and I love gentle and protective he is towards her, too. Especially in the show. He never gets frustrated by her, he never doubts her, and he sticks by her side the entire time! Plus, he’s funny, as shit! Zachary Levi is one of the best Disney voice actors, *PERIOD!* “No, no, no, no, no! This is really bad! They just can’t get my nose right!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fun fact: During pre-production, the entire staff of the film attracted to men got together in a meeting in which they were encouraged to give their input on what would make the hottest Disney male character possible in their eyes. Not only in looks, but in personality too. It was dubbed "the Hot Prince Meeting". Well... There you have it. Eugene was created out of sheer thirst! lol
"This is the story of how I died. Oh, don't worry, it's actually a fun and lively story; in fact, it isn't even mine." -Probably the best opening line in literature history. "This is the story of how I died" -it is in fact the story of how he died, but "It isn't even mine" subverts that foreshadowing in a comical way, making us think he isn't actually going to die. But it is the story of how he died, but it's not his story. It's Repunzel's story in which Eugene died. This line is mellow-dramatic but comedic. It sets the serious yet playful tone of the entire movie, and as said, foreshadows the finale. It is also a line I regularly quote when I'm about ready to attempt a very difficult piece of music.
I can relate to that lol I do jazz piano so when I’m asked to accompany people’s improvised solos it’s very nerve-racking since I’m not sure what they’re gonna do next. Of course, the actual music isn’t usually too difficult (as opposed to a lot of classical music, which I’m very familiar with since I was trained in classical music before making that switch for university) but what it lacks in difficulty in music, it has in difficulty of what that person is going to do next, and trying to match the tone somewhat in your playing. Sorry that was somewhat off topic lol, oh well
@@faymelp826 No, that is very similar to what's going through my mind when I play. For me it's playing a piece of classical music, and I'm expected to honor the piece more than express myself. Specifically when it's a fun piece to play, like Dragonetti (I'm a contrabassist).
Favorite scene was probably when king Fredrick was sad about losing his daughter and cried. You don't get any dialogue but you can feel how broken he is still knowing his daughter was taken Tv show helps expand on him more by being overprotective which is honestly understandable losing her once. Also raps parents are mvp for actually surviving
And I love how the scenes with Rapunzel’s parents don’t have any sort of dialogue. How the animators and writers just let those moments be silent and let the moments speak for themselves. How the king and queen never stopped longing for their daughter after so many years and how they knew almost immediately that it was her when she stood before them, despite her having different hair than when she was a baby. No dialogue. No words. Just characters sharing a powerful moment together, no words needed. I wish more stories remembered how powerful these moments can be.
Also noticed how they wore dark colors while she was gone, but wore bright colors in the epilogue. Costume colors also play a good role in non-verbal storytelling.
I seriously dislike how so many Tangled: The Series fans hate King Fredrick, mainly because he wasn't being very nice to a character they're crazy for. But he's really just a guy who was scarred by his daughter being kidnapped and missing for 18 years and is overprotective of her because of it. Plus he's a fan of collecting animal eggs, and that's honestly just adorable
Mother Gothel is one of the scariest villains for the same reasons as Frollo, She is manipulative, condencending, rude, only cares about herself and is also a big gaslighter who constantly lies and decieves her way through different situations, she pretends that she cares about Rapunzel but through out the interactions you realize just how much she puts down the poor girl
Frollo is 1000 TIMES WORSE than Gothel. Gothel was only mean to Rapunzel & she still showed Rapunzel some affection, even if Gothel only took in Rapunzel because of her hair. In the end Rapunzel got reunited with her biological mother & father. Frollo on the other hand was cruel to not only Quasimodo, but to Esmeralda, Pheobus, the Archdeacon, the gypsies & the citizens of Paris. Frollo didn't like one thing about Quasimodo in fact he was going to kill him as a baby by drowning him. The only reason he didn't was because the Archdeacon guilt tripped him into taking care of Quasimodo. Frollo groped & threatened to burn Esmeralda, backstabbed Pheobus, used and tried to kill Quasimodo.
@@joshualowe959I ain't comparing their actions, I am comparing the fact that they constantly bring down the main protagonist and both of them have them locked in there for their entire lives, both are gaslighters and both are manipulators, but I agree Frollo is the bigger Menace
I always wondered why Tangled seems so much more grounded than others Disney princess movies. It has the usual “something more” trope, but there was something else about it too. And then I realized, it’s because Gothel commits a real world crime of kidnapping a newborn baby and raising it as if it were hers. She exhibits all the characteristics of someone who is desperately clinging to a stolen prize that’s gradually outgrowing her hold. I wouldn’t be surprised if they consulted with real life victims who found out in their adulthood that their overly protective and gaslighting parents were really their kidnappers.
Gaslightning parents are not especially rare. Kidnappers yes, but parents gaslightning their children is pretty common. Extremely cruel and a high degree of evil.
Yes, a lot of survivors of emotional abuse and narcissistic parents feel Mother Gothel to be scarily realistic. Kidnapping may be rare, but all the other stuff? Put imto a fairy tale context, yeah, but not rare. Having a fairy tale showing somebody overcoming this kind of childhood is great.
@@singer2be256in lady Tremaine’s case her actions don’t necessarily relate to a larger audience (making your stepchild a cleaning maid in such a cruel demeanor ) But the emotional gaslighting of Gothel does relate to a wider audience. Where Gothel actually acts as a “loving” parent while sprinkling in manipulation and gaslighting in
I always felt like the character designs in Tangled were proportioned much better than in their later films. It felt the closest to 2D. So many great things in this film. A memorable villain (probably the last great traditional Disney villain that we've had), beautiful romance, more modern but at the same time sincere and heartfelt, and a wonderful soundtrack.
Now you can watch all of that thrown out the Master Windu, because wahmen are never villains, they are always perfect, and mehn are never awesome. Let's make Eugene Fitzerherbert a fully dumb and lame loser, make Rapunzel a girl boss who needs no man to defeat the evil witch that imprisoned her. Oh wait- was Gothel ever evil? What if she was the good guy all along and actually saved Rapunzel from the evil and possessive King Fredrick? And totally not because Gothel wants Rapunzel's youth and beauty, no sir no sir. Gothel was only lonely. -Disney. THIS IS SO GOING TO HAPPEN, I'M TELLING YOU. I hate it. They are willing to do remakes of recent movies, not just old movies. But also modern movies too. Ugh.
@@ziephel-6780 Technically most of what you wrote already happened in that stupid TV show and I will never ever stop hating that show! They completely destroyed Flynn's character. They reduced him to the dumb boyfriend side character in favor of Cassandra and gave all the development and emotional scenes to Rapunzel and Cassandra when in the movie it was about Rapunzel and Flynn, and they were completely equal and equally developed. They both saved each other, instead of one person doing all the saving. In the series Rapunzel just does all the saving! Also, in the movie they were dual protagonists and Flynn was just as important as Rapunzel. In the series Flynn is completely sidelined and the trauma he should have is never mentioned. Instead, it’s all about Cassandra. It’s because of frozen, they gave rapunzel a sister and focused only on the sister relationship while dumping down the boyfriend. It’s also because of stupid modern feminism where they always have to portray every man as a weak, stupid Idiot and every woman as a Mary Sue! That’s just turning the sexism around and discriminate men instead of women! I really hate that, Flynn deserves better! What makes me feel worse about this stupid series is that I listened to the Tangled Songs and Story CD and there the narrator literally says at the end that Flynn mattered more to Rapunzel than anything which is true in the movie but definitely false in this stupid series. There it always seems Like Cassandra Matters more to her than Flynn and that makes the whole ending of the movie unbelievable where she was willing to sacrifice herself Just to save him because she Loved him so much. So it Just makes No logical Sense that she would suddenly Always Put a Person she met afterwards before him If she really loved him as much as in the movie. And I hate that she is such a hypocrite in the series who lets Cassandra Always insult him without saying a Word, keeps secrets from him, draws his face on a punching bag and never even apologizes and rejects his proposals but gets Mad when her supposed true Love for whom she wanted to Go to hell says Something against Cassandra. That is the Most toxic relationship I've ever Seen. And just imagine the roles were switched, imagine a guy would let his best friend constantly insult his girlfriend, keep secrets from her, draw her face on a punching bag just for his best friend and even reject her marriage proposal, then everyone would call it sexist and misogynistic and a toxic relationship. But when a guy is treated like that, it’s alright! It’s such a double standard and it’s ridiculous! Ugh, I hate modern feminism! And what I hate about the whole marriage Thing in this context is that they are basically saying that it's Not ok to marry someone whom you deeply and truly Love after a few months but it's OK to try to give up your entire freedom and basically your entire life for someone whom you Just met three days ago. If they Love each other that much that they would do Something Like that after only having known each other for a few days than their Love is so strong and true and then they could and should marry after a Short time Especially considering the time period the movie is Set where they could only truly be together after being married. And If Disney wanted to Show a couple Not marrying so soon they should have taken a different couple than Rapunzel and Flynn because they proved how deeply and truly they Loved each other after a few days and since they almost Lost each other it would make Sense that they wouldn't want to lose more time together after they saw how Short life can be and besides, their Story Takes place in a time where people married early. They should have rather Had Tiana and Naveen marry only after a few years because they dont seem Like they fit very well together and didnt try to die for each other after a few days and furthermore their Story Takes place in the 1920s, Not the 1700s. They would have been perfect for Not marrying immidiately, Not Rapunzel and Flynn who seem like the worst candidates for this in my opinion. And that whole rejecting marriage plotline is the worst Storyline I've ever Seen. They send the Message that marriage is a prison even though you Love each other and that is such a horrible Message. And it's Especially horrible how in the Episode beyond the Corona walls, it seems Like that she never wanted to marry him at the beginning of the Episode which raises the question why the hell she is even still with him If a life with him seems so horrible to her and also why the hell she wouldn't want to marry the man she Loved that much that she wanted to Go to prison for for all eternity in the movie. It Just doesn't make any logical Sense and is inconsistent with the movie and also the Wedding Short where she looked so deeply in Love and so incredible Happy. It Just doesn't make Sense that she would have rejected the proposal before. And whats worse is that in that Episode it seems Like she only changed her mind about marriage because Stalyan wanted him which makes it seem like she only wants him when another girl wants him which is so incredibly toxic. If someone considers marriage as a prison, then that means they are subconsciously thinking about cheating or breaking up! I analyzed this once in school about a book where a guy who considered marriage as a prison in a similar way as Rapunzel in this stupid series, ended up cheating on his girlfriend! And that is precisely what would happen in real life! When someone rejects marriage, the relationship is over! And I'm pretty Sure the writers of Tangled intended for tangled ever After to Take place shortly after the movie because the little girls of the movie seemed to be the Same age in the Short and Wikipedia also states it was originally intended to Take place immediately after the movie. The series Just doesn't seem believable and seems Like it Takes place in a completely different universe as the movie. And I Just can't consider it Canon because of all These reasons and it's obvious that it was written by someone else than the movie. So, Right now I Just Count it as Not Canon to still be able to watch the movie. If I Had to Count it as Canon, then I Wish Flynn would have stayed dead at the end of the movie and wasnt brought back to life. It would have been a very sad and tragic ending but it would have at least been better than showing such a toxic relationship between two characters who were both trying to sacrifice themselves for each other.
I’ve always been so surprised that Tangled never received the widespread praise and adoration that Frozen did. Yeah I know a lot of people myself included loved Tangled back in 2010 but at the same time, it never felt as deep of a love as others. Hell it wasn’t even up for Best Animated Feature at the Oscar’s. And while Toy Story 3 was my favorite movie in 2010, it still has always felt wrong that it felt so ignored and near forgotten in comparison to Frozen it has been. It feels like a more complete story than Frozen ever did, with a better villain, better male love interest, more funny and more compelling than Frozen ever has been. And I don’t hate the movie Frozen at all and still find it charming for it is. But to me there’s no comparison as to which one deserved the success one got.
I’m kind of disappointed that it didn’t earn the same amount of praise and success as Frozen because as someone who watched both movies, Tangled clearly had a better plot, villain, and characters. It was also a movie I watched a lot as a kid because I adored Rapunzel.
Something else that makes Tangled a standout to all the other Disney Princess movies (at least at the time) was that it was the first one to get a PG rating from the MPAA for “brief mild violence”. All the other Princess movies Disney had made before this one was G rated. I’ve always found that very interesting about this movie
And I have no idea why considering there’s not that much humor or elements that could be considered offensive to parents that would justify the PG rating. Could’ve been simply rated G and wouldn’t be any different. Tangled may have been released before the abundance of animated films being rated PG, but it does feel like it contributed to the near-nonexistentence of the G-rating.
Rapunzel is my favorite princess (I know it’s my profile pic). Tangled is such an amazing movie and a huge part of my childhood when I first saw it in theaters. Hopefully when I get married I use “I See the Light” as my wedding dance song
Tangled is the best animated tv show as well. It somehow made the movie even better and shows that raps thinking the best in people only made the realm better. Also the development of Eugene was incredible
I still don't like the way it was animated. There's just no excuse not to animate it the way they did the movie, particularly since they were still making other shows with that same style of animation at the time.
@@JStryker47The reason it was animated in 2D is very simple. 3D animation is more expensive, and even good 3D animated TV shows generally look worse than their 2D animated counterparts. Just look at the difference between the animation in TMNT 2012 and Rise of the TMNT- TMNT 2012 is one of the better looking 3D shows out there, but even then it's not even in the same ballpark as Rise, which can better emote the characters, use more dynamic poses, and even do things like sliding around still images/sprites without it feeling cheap. And anyway, Disney used a similar animation style for Big Hero 6 The Series too
@@JStryker47 Actually, since it was a show, they probably needed to make it 2D because 3D rigging costs a lot more than 2D puppet rigging so they chose 2D puppet rigging so that they could not go out of their budget. But, I think the 2D animation was still real pretty.
@@JStryker47It is meant to reflect Rapunzels Journal, that is why they mad eit like that, it's actually her telling us everything that happened so that is why they went for a storybook-style. Personally I love the tvshow more than the film itself. I love the 2d animation, the lineless art and the way they colored and shadowed everything.... Plus the songs are sooo good!
I've always prefered Tangled over Frozen since it really felt like Disney's last great fairytale film. The visuals, the story, the character designs are wonderful, while Frozen always felt off both visuals and story-wise. I always see people say Rapunzel has the same face as Elsa/Anna when she really doesn't-her face has more structure and her eyes are better proportioned, she feels more like say Ariel's proportions, while Anna and Elsa's faces have really off proportions with the eyes too big/low, and noses too small. Tangled has this magic of a storybook come to life Frozen never gave me, since its story was much more focused and tightly written. It's a shame it doesn't get as much love, especially since it was the studio's first 3D princess film. Always felt odd how they had such a wonderfully strong start only to double back and make Frozen.
She was one of the last characters animator Glen Keane drew before quitting Disney, who animated Ariel. It makes sense their character designs have similaries!
🥺 when Eugene cuts her hair, he's choosing her happiness over his. He's seen Rapunzel's powers to heal before, so this was his only chance to live. It's kind of this "gift of magi" moment, where both of them were willing to give up what was most valuable for each other because they truly loved the other person.
Yeah, if you talk about the classic Disney fairy tale romantic love story, "Tangled" is hands down the best in the entire canon. Yes, even better tham Beauty and the Best, and that's not to put down B&B in the slightest. As a matter of fact, I can't help but think if part of the reason why Disney hasn't really tried to make another fairy tale romantic love story since Tangled (focusing on other types of love instead, particularly family love) is because they got it so perfect there that they feel it would be impossible to top it. Because if it was... I honestly wouldn't blame them! Now, to give my two cents, I would like to give a special mention to the campfire scene, since I think it's one of the main reasons why the love story is so great. It's not only both characters telling their backstories. It's both characters letting themselves being vulnerable in fornt of each other. And both of them listen to the other and give each other support and kindness. They say that in love stories the audience has to fall in love with the characters separately before the characters fall in love with each other. And that's true, but that doesn't mean yoi should overlook the way the characters fall in love with each other. Fortunately, "Tangled" does both steps absolutely perfect.
I'll never forget the first time I watched Tangled. I went to see it begrudgingly, believing it to be another soulless cash grab with over-the-top characters that would only appeal to little kids. The thought popped into my head multiple times for the first half, but I had to admit it got a few laughs out of me. Then I saw the Kingdom dance scene and realized I was having a great time -- not to mention the lanterns. But when Mother Gothel came back in with her childish "Mother knows best," I rolled my eyes. "Here we go again," I thought. Until the tune dropped. I realized I had underestimated her as a villain. The last act is still one of the best in any fairy tale film. They embraced the dark roots of most fairy tales and showcased a coming of age story that many young people can relate to. It restored my faith in Disney.
One of the most brilliant things this movie does is provide a legitimate reason for why Rapunzel’s tears heals the prince at the end of the story. It’s something that comes completely out of left field in the original fairytale but this movie gave a perfection explanation for it.
Tangled is a very personal movie to me that I adore to bits. When I rewatched the movie after figuring out to have gone through gaslighting, guilt tripping and overall emotionally abusive behavior of my mother and past ex's.. the movie became a heavier yet pleasant watch. I cried more often than I could count, finally seeing the signals of emotional abuse. Now since recent months it has lessened with my mother, but the mental aftereffects still linger where I fear of her disappointment or to have done something wrong despite trying my best. So Tangled holds a very special place in my heart because of that ♡
This movie always leaves me with an emotional high every time I watch it. It has what feel is a contender for the most heartwarming ending in movie history.
Another thing I feel like Tangled does better than Frozen is having a continuation that better expands the story. Like I know there's a difference between movie and tv show, but I just think the Tangled series does a better job at expanding the lore around the sundrop than Frozen 2 does at explaining how Elsa got her powers.
I remember when the title Tangled was revealed and people asked, why it wasn't called Rapunzel, but when you watch the movie you realize why, becuase this time they really fleshed out the prince as well, it wasn't just a reinvention of a Disney fairy tale, but one being done without detracting of the source material or just being mean spirited about it, they really deconstructed their own genre and updated it with changes like a grounded villain, a fleshed out romantic interest, and animal companions that don't speak because the expressive animation carried their characters, but especially a princess with a really relatable conflict, trying to expand your world even though that goes against what your parents have taught you, and as a teenager that really speaks to you, and they did it in a very universal way so anyone can relate no matter what. BTW, I really love how in Kingdom Hearts III the Kingdom of Corona is one of the most fleshed out worlds, with the different sets of the movie and the kingdom itself is so full of life and people doind their own things even the plaza dance scene is a welcomed change of pace, unlike the Frozen part, where is just a tundra and a maze like ice castle, sadly no Tangled songs were featured in the game because ofc they had to feature Let It Go, when bops like Mother Knows Best, I've Got a Dream, or I See The Light, despite the lamp scene was so beautifuly recreated in-game, heck not even the actual dance scene song was present just some new composition, because ofc we have to blow the licensing budget on Let It Go, screw Frozen that piece of media that is colder than the tundra itself!
Exactly, most years it’s 5 nominated films but for some reason for 2010, it was only 3 nominations with HYTTD, TS3 and The Illusionist (which I never heard of). Tangled should’ve been there as well even though it still would’ve lost to TS3. It’s weird because 2010 was one of most stacked years for animation ever and yet there were less films nominated than years that had less memorable films
The way they executed the Toxic Relationship between Rapunzel and “Mother” Gothel Is Pretty Realistic and Intriguing, Even though I wasn’t a Victim of a Toxic Relationship in my Youth. And the way “Mother” Gothel plays with Rapunzel’s hair is just creepy.
Many people have pointed out how terrifingly realistic Gothel is as an abuser, so they truly nailed that aspect of her character. I even remember someone saying that they were scared to watch the movie because Gothel reminded them so much of their own abuser.
The kingdom dance scene is my favorite scene of the film, since we get to see Rapunzel really enjoying life outside her tower (hence establishing her fear of being in the tower forever as more than for the sake of Eugene or the lanterns) + putting her talents to use. Excellent visual storytelling
My favorite part of Tangles is the fact that Flynn's dying act was to spite Mother Gothel! He cut Rapunzel's hair so that Gotherl would loose her immortality. And maybe it would free Rapunzel, if the chips landed right (and Gothel didn't kill Rapunzel in a maddened rage). But, in any case, he committed to his course with the only certainties being that he was condemning himself to bleed out, and that it would spite Gothel. Plus, he committed this act with the same energy and conviction as if he were cutting someone's throat! That was surprisingly hardcore for an animated Disney movie. In all seriousness, I liked Flynn from the start, as he was giving off real "Tellos" vibes. (Tellos is an obscure comic book, look it up.) Rapunzel also felt real and likable, and, well, it was just fun to watch the two bounce off each other. Much like Emperor's New Groove, the comedy just hit right...
Weirdly (or maybe fortunately) enough, they seem to have skipped over this movie and Princess and the Frog in favor of pushing out a Moana live action. I'm not complaining
Very late comment, but this is the last Disney movie where I still felt the "wonder" or the "Disney formula" when I was a kid watching the classics. Great world building, beautiful romance, unique character designs...just overall awesome.
Tangled is my absolute favorite Disney Princess series... and I saw it when I was in my 30s. I am a sucker for lost children finding their families stories.
This movie has a special place in my heart for a couple different reasons. One of the hardest parts of planning my wedding was figuring out the music. I could not for the life of me figure out what I wanted to walk down the aisle to. Then one day I was re-watching tangled for the first time in a while with my daughter and when I see the light started to play, I teared up and knew that’s what I wanted playing when I walked towards my husband. The second reason would be it was one of the few movies I have had a chance to see with my mother in theaters and that is a very special memory.
I love Tangled! Rapunzel is one of my favourite fairy tales! There's also an interesting Easter Egg towards Rapunzel's voice actress, Mandy Moore. I don't know if it was intentional or not but the pixie cut Rapunzel gets after Flynn cuts off her hair, is the same as Mandy Moore's pixie cut she had in 2002. Mother Gothel has got to be one of the greatest villains. Her quote "Now look what you've done Rapunzel" after she stabs Flynn, sends a chill down my spine! I do think when compared to other horrible "Mother" characters like the Evil Queen and Lady Tremaine, Gothel is tame as I think she uses the hair to stay alive as she's cheated death for centuries and only planned on snipping a piece of Rapuznel's hair before kidnapping when she saw the hair lose power once cut.
Growing up from 2007 - 2010 and now today was really a magical experience for me thanks to stories like these! Definitely one of my favorite Disney films of all time! The songs, characters, story... all of it is just right!
I loved this movie as a kid, I watched it over and over again, and today, I still love it, but I also understand it. That I can both appreciate the movie in different ways, now and before, shows that it's a masterpiece.
You know as a child I didn’t recognize how much of a villain Gothel was. I felt bad for her when she died and thought she genuinely loved Rapunzal. Yeah I don’t think like that anymore
Tangled was the best movie that I ever watched. I have watched it 10 times . I watched it when it first came out in 2010 . My wife and I took our best girl friend and her brand new son when it first came out!
Tangled is such a FANTASTIC movie, I remember it was my first Disney animated film I ever watch on THEATERS, despite I was a grow up adult at this point, never my family took me to see any of the renaissance films of the early 2000, so this was my first time watching an actual Disney musical on a big screen....and my god I will never forgot, how after I saw this film....I immediately go to watch ALL DISNEY FILMS, it reignited my love for Disney and kick start my second favorite era (from Tangled to Moana) of Disney animated film, people call this the REVIVAL era, I call it personally the second Renaissance, I love this so much and all thanks to this film, Rapunzel become the only Disney princess that come close to dethrone my eternal love for Ariel and the Little Mermaid, I can understand why she is many's favorite Princess, and what shock me even more is that her story was not over with this movie, I keep saying man, you have to watch Tangled: The Series, is not just good, is even better than this masterpiece of a film, and that is because everyone involve returned returned, from all the voices, Alan Menken and so many more, making it the perfect continuation of an already fantastic story, I have nothing bad to say about this film, it reignited my love for Disney and I hope we eventually return to this level of quality....I still rooting for WISH to do that, finger cross.
I think this was the last project of Glen Keane, the one that designed Ariel and other princesses, before he left Disney, that is why it is still feels very og Disney, yet modern enough without being “woke”.
Also Rapunzel having a chamaleon as her personal pet is somewhat unusual for former Disney princess before her, it isn´t as he couldn´t be cute on his own but overall it´s somewhat unusual for princesses before as he is a reptile, a smaller and cute one but still a reptile which is somewhat hard to have a connection so easily than other friends which former princesses got on mammals and birds - even Rajah, Jasmine´s tiger is a blend of both very mighty impressive but cute and handsome at the same as being a mammal - and when it had been some variations as Ariel´s friends - which aren´t her pets actually - it´s because of the environment where she comes from, so Rapunzel is a more classical type in appeareance but ends being quite more MODERN than they, as overall reptiles weren´t considered something which might be likeable as a usual pet - which exception of turtles perhaps - so she was already unusual and modern on it. It´s of course a stereotype but reptiles aren´t usually thought as something fancy and cute oftenly as female companions or interests, and though as Pascal proves it could be still, he still somewhat a unique switch on the theme as cuteness could be quirky and odd at the same time.
in my top 5 favorite (and the most watched of all) Disney animated movies 1. Lion King (such a masterpiece) 2. Lilo & Stitch (huge Stitch fan) 3. Tangled (for everything you just said) 4. Aladdin (Robin Williams at his best) 5. Robin Hood (just because it's Robin Hood)
Yeap. Tangle is so good that even it's freaking Disney Channel animated show is good. I mean, it's not perfect, the episodes not related to the lore of the story tend to be on the weaker side, and Cassandra's rushed development in the final season put a bit of a stain on it, but it's still easily the best tie-in TV show for a Disney movie ever.
I fully agree, Mr. Aldone. Tangled is up with best Disney. So subtle e.g. Flynnegan wows Eugene ... "not bad with the ladies" but given the chance outdoors at night he doesn't come on to R.
Mother Gothel is such a GOATed villain. Personally I like manipulative villains who obsessively love the protagonist(or one aspect about them) who use emotional/psychological abuse. It’s both underutilized in movies, yet also incredibly common in real life. Her death scene where she has her age catching up to her once Flynn cut Rapunzel’s hair is very iconic and well setup.
i have to write this somewhere; Mother Gothel used the flower to keep her age. when the flower was discovered by the soldier for the king to heal Rapunzel at which point after receiving the healing potion made from the flower her hair turned blonde, we learn that she has the ability to make one younger again by brushing her hair and reciting a spell/song. The spell/song that as long as said/sung by an individual that is within the vicinity of and stroking Rapunzel's hair. while she herself, Rapunzel, ages. Does the magic not work on herself? Is there evidence that she's tried to make it happen? is she capable of making herself younger? effectively making herself immortal?
Actually the rapunzel knows best reprise isn’t just a case of making her doubt herself, it’s emotional manipulation from gothel to rapunzel, it’s quite common in narcissistic parents who use this tactic to continue gaslighting there children by making them think, oh poor me look what you have done to me I’m your parent how could you be such a awful person and do this to me. And trusting as there kids tend to be they fall into it every time
If you ask me, Tangled is the TRUE Disney anniversary film. Shut up, it is not Wish. Being the 50th Disney film, Tangled brought back the renaissance era through a magical fairy tale, a couple with amazing chemistry, a fantastic villain, beautiful animation, and a great soundtrack. Wish did the exact opposite.
Yeah and if we really wanted a disney villain song that's diffrent then lets just go with Mother Know's best (original and reprise) and Crossing the Line & Nothing left to lose (for context, there was a show about tangled before Eugene and Rapunzel got married called Tangled Adventures or something idk it had alot of name changes btw it's an amazing show and it's animated in 2D and omgggg it's amazing)
Tangled tells the story of a young princess, Rapunzel, who was kidnapped shortly after birth by a greedy, old woman named Mother Gothel. Mother Gothel takes Rapunzel because she desires the magical healing powers of her long blonde hair that keeps Mother Gothel from aging and hides Rapunzel away in an isolated tower in the forest outside the kingdom of Corona. Mother Gothel knew that if Rapunzel was in her care, then she would never grow old and die. So, Mother Gothel kept Rapunzel locked away in a tower for eighteen years of her life and always told her to never leave the tower because the world is unsafe and full of cruel people. As she was growing up in her tower, Rapunzel never realized that Mother Gothel was not actually her real mother. So, she was unknowingly a prisoner for her entire life. Her opportunity to escape her tower didn't come until a notorious thief, Eugene Fitzherbert known by his alias Flynn Rider, finds her tower as he's running away from the castle guards after stealing the princess's crown. Rapunzel then convinces Flynn Rider to be her guide to the kingdom and take her to see the floating lights (lanterns) that she sees every year on the night of her birthday. And while Tangled is praised for its animation, writing, characters, and musicality, it also illustrates the seven media keys mentioned in Dr. Eugene Gan's book Infinite Bandwidth: Encountering Christ in the Media. The First Media Key: Balance With all things, we need a "healthy diet" (Gan, pg. 27) or, in other words, a good balance with everything in our lives. This means that one of the things we should have a good balance with is between work and play. We can see this in the film as Rapunzel goes back and forth between cooking and cleaning and then taking a break to either read, paint, or play with her pet friend chameleon, Pascal. Rapunzel shows us that we do not always have to focus on one thing and should do various things during our day both work and play. The Second Media Key: Attitude-Awareness We need to be aware of the content creator's message that is being sent. "We're susceptible to the media's messages because we're sensory creatures...And virtually everything we will ever experience comes to us through the flesh" (Gan, pg. 38). There are many messages that the filmmakers of Tangled are trying to get across to their audience. From the nature of both selflessness and self-sacrifice to finding the courage within oneself, and to start believing in yourself and be the best version of yourself that you can be. I believe that the overall message is that there is always more in us, even when we don't think we can keep going. This is shown in one of the scenes at the end of the movie when Rapunzel eventually figured out that she was the lost princess, and after confronting Mother Gothel about it said she was going to leave. Obviously, that didn't bode well with her, so when Flynn Rider goes back to the tower to see Rapunzel, he finds her all tied up and gagged. But before he can even help save her, Mother Gothel comes up from behind him and stabs him in his side. Then Mother Gothel goes to lock Rapunzel up, but she will not stop fighting her and though it must be so tiring to keep trying to fight back she never stops. Rapunzel was told all her life that it was her 70 feet of long magical hair that ultimately made her special, when really there was a strength inside of her the whole time. There's also another part to that scene that shows how selfless Rapunzel is and the self-sacrifice that Flynn Rider made for her. Right before Mother Gothel locks Rapunzel away, Rapunzel shouts, "No! I won't stop for every minute of the rest of my life. I will fight. I will never stop trying to get away from you, but if you let me save him, I will go with you. I'll never run, I'll never try to escape, just let me heal him and you and I will be together, forever, just like you want, everything will be the way it was. I promise, just like you want. Just let me heal him." This shows just how selfless Rapunzel is. That she's willing to be locked away in a tower for the rest of her life, so long as Mother Gothel allows her to save Flynn Rider from dying. However, Flynn starts protesting saying, "No! No, Rapunzel!" And even though Mother Gothel released Rapunzel to let her save him, right before Rapunzel could use the magical healing powers of her hair, Flynn grabs a sharp piece of broken glass and cuts off all her beautiful hair, which then starts aging Mother Gothel very quickly, and soon she is nothing but some bits of ashes on the ground. Thus, saving Rapunzel instead of allowing her to save him. This shows us that he loved her so much that he was willing to sacrifice himself to save her. I really think that this scene can help any viewer to realize how much strength they have inside of them. That they can do anything so long as they put their mind to it. And in the second part of the scene, it truly shows how powerful being selfless is and that we should always be uplifting to others and put others before ourselves. The underlying messages in films is what really makes a wonderful and such an inspiring movie. In this movie, Tangled, it teaches the viewers to be brave, daring, and to have big dreams in life. The Third Media Key: The Dignity of the Human Person "All media should reflect, uphold, and enhance human dignity" (Gan, pg. 52). Every single person should be treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve. "It should bring people together. It should promote understanding of the human person and human communities" (Gan, pg. 52). We should be able to show charity to those around us. We can see that in the movie, Mother Gothel keeps Rapunzel locked away in an isolated tower her entire life and gave her absolutely no freedom whatsoever. She treated her as more of a prized possession and object than an actual human being. The only reason she actually cared for Rapunzel was because of her magical hair that kept her from growing old and dying. Through this scene we see that the way Mother Gothel treats Rapunzel is wrong and that we should respect the dignity of everyone and value all life. One way in which the movie Tangled shows the dignity of the human person was how every year for 18 years, the King and Queen would light lanterns for their lost daughter hoping that one day they would be blessed to find her and have her in their lives once more. They only knew their daughter for a few days, but this shows just how much they loved her and cared for her still, even though they never knew whether or not they would see her again. The Fourth Media Key: Truth-filled The fourth media is truth-filled. This media key "tells us that we should not tell lies..." (Gan, pg. 68). This means that everything we do in both word and action should be truthful. "...we mustn't leave the truth behind" (Gan, pg. 68). Rapunzel believed everything Mother Gothel told her, except everything she told her was a lie. Mother Gothel lied to Rapunzel about why she should be locked away in the tower and what the world is truly filled with because there are cruel people in the world. But the biggest lie she told her was that she was her mother and kept it a secret that she was the lost princess of the kingdom Corona. This is why you shouldn't believe everything that you see and hear and should take everything with a grain of salt. Most of the plot is based on a lie. And yes, Mother Gothel only loved Rapunzel for her magical hair and lied to her her entire life saying that the "outside world was a dangerous place," when really Mother Gothel was the real danger the whole time.
Honestly, Tangled is one of my favorite movies of all time! And this video and all the points you’re making is exactly why! Idk, there’s just something about the way they did the story, characters, and music that makes me love it WAYYY more in frozen. This movie was my entire childhood! (This is kinda random but I even got a rapunzel themed b-day party when I turned 4 years old!) I just love this movie with all my heart and I suggest checking out the tv-series, it’s REALLY good and touches more on the “lore” that wasn’t really explained in the movie. Tangled >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Frozen
Disney also made a whole ass TV series that is also just as good, the setting is the years leading up to rapunzel's marriage as well as the discovery of the sundrop and the moonstone's power. It's directed by different directors this time but the original actors for Rapunzel and Eugene reprised their roles in the TV series as well, which is really crazy
I want them to make a darker spin-off movie where Repunzel never leaves the tower to see the lights, inherits Gothel's manipulative and selfish personality, and kills Gothel when she realizes she was being manipulated all her life... And then Flynn sneaks into the tower, only to realize that there's a terrifying murderer woman living there who takes him captive. The plot of the film would involve Flynn trying to find a way to escape the tower to warn the kingdom about Repunzel, and he teams up with Pascal to do it (because Pascal doesn't like what Repunzel has become). XD And when I say dark, I don't mean like those cheap live action horror movies of Winnie the Pooh or Steamboat Willie, I mean the same animation style as the actual movie, with just as good of writing, and just a slightly darker tone than your average Disney movie (I wouldn't want it to be like a slasher film or anything, gore really isn't impressive or interesting to me).
Hey guys, there is a therory that the movie Tangled foreshadowed the Covid-19 Pandemic! -Rapunzel was isolated (Quarantined) from going to the kingdom of Corona and was allowed to see no one but her "family" lol
I saw the Frozen musical on Broadway and it was honestly a lot better. The added some great songs, not to mention they fixed a lot of the story. Part of the reason they were able to do that was because it was 4 hours long or something. Really enjoyable experience.
I agree!! I've been saying this for a while now too. Frozen has the best song (really, only one), but Tangled outshines Frozen in every other way. Even overall music is better.
you know tangledis great cos it has al ot of quotable lines that is relevant to the decades to come. And not to mention them haing the best falling in love song?!!!!
When Tangled came along I had my first ever princess challenger. I have, for a very long time, adored Belle from Beauty and the beast. When I was little I loved Ariel (I love mermaids and swimming, y' know?) But Belle I connected with. She was a bookworm (I love reading) and I really liked her relationship with Beast and how it all unfolded. A true masterpiece and completely deserving of all its accolades all this time later. I loved that she was smart, that she was a thinker, that she didn't take shit from others, but was polite and caring. It's expressed in a thousand different ways. "I've never been in an enchanted castle?" "Who told you the castle was enchanted?" - she figured it out herself XD I love it! Still do. But Rapunzel is equally complex and artistic (I love art). Like Belle, I love her relationship too. Where Beast learns to have better manners and control his temper, Flynn learns the value of honesty and that he can live another way. Beauty and the Beast and Tangled both turn their fairy tale origins sideways. The beast was never an angry spoiled brat in the original, though he did need to gain Belle's love. Likewise, Rapunzel was the commoner and the Prince was the one who climbed her tower. Now, enter a third movie - the Princess and the Frog. I have a lot of issues with that movie - the animation and music not part of that topic. For that matter, I think Tiana is an excellent role model - but I wondered, since that and Tangled came out and both invert their stories a bit, why am I chill with one and not the other? Well, it's a matter of the story's morals (or lack thereof). In the original Rapunzel, the mother wanted cabbage from a witch's garden and insisted her husband steal veggies - and when he got caught, he was told he could have as much cabbage as he wanted if he gave up his first born child. She even cast a spell so they'd forget about her after a while and they did have more kids. Makes Rapunzel in Tangled's parents look far more sympathetic. The prince who finds her actually marries and has kids with her, but when the witch finds out about them he has him thrown from the tower - his eyes are pricked with thorns (He goes blind, YIPES!) He then searches for Rapunzel who was taken away by the witch to live somewhere else. The two eventually reunite, happily ever after, but.. what exactly was learned? Don't promise things to a witch? DOn't steal from a witch's garden? The new story Disney presents gives a *reason* Mother Gothel wants Rapunzel for her own, one that is believable for starters. There are themes of family, honesty, loyalty and truth within this. Family, because even though Rapunzel doesn't know Mother Gothel isn't her mom, she treats her with the love and respect deserving of a real one, and it's not until she has cause to disobey that she does. Family, because we see her real family does care about her even after all this time. Honesty, because of Eugene's arc (Rapunzel is BAD at lying) where his opening up to her is more compelling than any lie he's told. Loyalty - just look at Max there, and later on Eugene when he would rather die for Rapunzel than have her live a prisoner. So, it's actually an improved story. The Frog Prince was the original Princess and the Frog. At the beginning of the story, he is already a frog in the fairy tale and a spoiled rotten princess winds up losing her golden ball in his pond. He says he will retrieve it if she promises to have him as a guest at her table for dinner, and allow him to sleep in her room etc. The Princess promises but without any intention of making good on the promises she made. Very much not what Tiana would have done, but I'm talking the original. Well, the Frog not only retrieves her golden ball, but manages to get to her Palace and when the King hears of what she's done, he makes her go through with her promises. She does so bitterly until she gets so fed up with the whole situation - even though the frog has been nothing but polite - she slams him against a wall and commits frogicide. Believing him DEAD, only THEN does she actually go to see what she's done and weeps over her being a ... less than stellar person. But it's okay because her compliance (well intended or not) with his requests freed the Prince from his cursed frog form and the two live happily ever after. Modern Disney would *never* make this movie because it would require the female protagonist to be unlikeable for a vast majority of the run time. So, the movie we got was set in New Orleans. Her dreams of owning a restaurant are great, the atmosphere is fine. I just don't think this should have been the Princess and the Frog. It also seemed kind of muddled in its messaging as well - is she wishing for her happily ever after or does she have to put in hard work? Because she does. Kind of doesn't seem to know what it wants to do there. Prince Naveen is a derelict prince and on the cusp of being disinherited to boot, so why even try to target this guy? He needs to learn the value of hard work and she needs to learn to loosen up and have some fun. I fail to see how this needed to be wrapped up in the Frog Prince? And then you get to them having their marriage as frogs which makes her a princess so now when they kiss it fixes the spell, but the Queen of a parade could have done that but they were out of time because the time ran out on the day so the Mardi Gras Queen couldn't do.... It's lawyer-esque in how they handle all the rules about Frog kissing. It didn't feel like a fairy tale to me, it felt like they really wanted to set a story in New Orleans so they slapped the Frog Prince on it and gave Tiana a green dress (In the LAST THIRTY SECONDS OF THE MOVIE!) so they could sell dolls to little girls. I also think because of the time period and setting there were some heavier topics that could have played a bigger role if they had been more gutsy like they were back with Hunchback. There is nothing that infuriates me like wasted opportunities, and I think there was a better story they could have told if they hadn't yoked it to the Frog Prince. I think I would have more respect for it if it was an original piece now that I think of it. I'm not saying that every movie needs to be in a fairy tale kingdom far far away, but Rapunzel fit her setting very well. Tiana and Naveen? Not as smooth.
Awe! That's just so romantic! EEP! :)
@@andreasmeelie1889 EEEE! I know!! The details in this movie just blow me away
@@alivingpersonudontknowbehi6082 Agreed
Wow
yeah, and being the hair was also holding her back, he cut it all off, so she can be free from not only long hair, yet the mental chains that mother gothal placed in her mind.
2010 truly was the golden year of animated films. Tangled, Toy Story 3, Megamind, How to Train your Dragon, the first Despicable Me... man what a great year.
It also happens to be the year I was born :), though I kinda wish I was born before so that I can actually experience the early 2010’s more :(
Too bad the 38th Annie Awards was rigged so How to Train Your Dragon stole all the other awards those aforementioned animated films could’ve gotten.
Don't forget Arrietty! 😊 What a year
@@BlondeCurlsBlueEyes I've never watched Arrietty but it looks like a very beautiful film. I'd like to see it sometime in the future.
Here Here. Excellent year.
Mother gothel is amazing. If you pay attention, you can tell she only views Rapunzel as an annoying flower pot. Her love is for the flower
That "I love you most" she gives to her before kissing HER HAIR always manages to get under my skin and make it crawl...
@@XanderVJ ooh spine chills.
She is a Narcicisst. She can't love.
They lack the caoacity for these feelings.
She is just driven by her arrogant vanity.
It shows that she would have preferred Rapunzel to never be and for her to keep her magical flower. One is a lot easier to take care of.
@@XanderVJyep. One thing I loved was that all the affection gothel showed was for her hair and never her. Eugene was the opposite
This movie and other movies that show off isolation from our world makes us learn not to take things so easily for granted, don't they?:)
Oh, are you talking about me?
What song are you talking about??
@@RealBrittanyMiller7when will my life begin
So true
Can we all agree that Eugene Fitzerherbert is the best Disney prince?! The way his character develops throughout the movie is astonishing. He was an orphan who had no friends or money, which resulted in him becoming a thief who believed his only option to be happy was to steal it from other people, but eventually realised he is capable of being happy after spending time with Rapunzel. That’s so beautiful and I love gentle and protective he is towards her, too. Especially in the show. He never gets frustrated by her, he never doubts her, and he sticks by her side the entire time! Plus, he’s funny, as shit! Zachary Levi is one of the best Disney voice actors, *PERIOD!*
“No, no, no, no, no! This is really bad! They just can’t get my nose right!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not to mention being chased by Maximus and then both eventually becoming friends.
He became Prince through his character development while the rest were born it
He is bae
Fun fact: During pre-production, the entire staff of the film attracted to men got together in a meeting in which they were encouraged to give their input on what would make the hottest Disney male character possible in their eyes. Not only in looks, but in personality too.
It was dubbed "the Hot Prince Meeting".
Well... There you have it. Eugene was created out of sheer thirst! lol
Ah yes, uncle Jessie from Full House was perfect.
I can relate to that lol
I do jazz piano so when I’m asked to accompany people’s improvised solos it’s very nerve-racking since I’m not sure what they’re gonna do next.
Sorry that was somewhat off topic lol, oh well
i know they used the same opening quote to Batman: Arkham Knight.
@@faymelp826 No, that is very similar to what's going through my mind when I play. For me it's playing a piece of classical music, and I'm expected to honor the piece more than express myself. Specifically when it's a fun piece to play, like Dragonetti (I'm a contrabassist).
I love this comment! Great evaluation, hilarious ending.
Favorite scene was probably when king Fredrick was sad about losing his daughter and cried. You don't get any dialogue but you can feel how broken he is still knowing his daughter was taken
Tv show helps expand on him more by being overprotective which is honestly understandable losing her once.

I couldn't agree more! Very well said! :)
Lady Tremaine did a real world crime too though. Child abuse
@@singer2be256in lady Tremaine’s case her actions don’t necessarily relate to a larger audience (making your stepchild a cleaning maid in such a cruel demeanor )
But the emotional gaslighting of Gothel does relate to a wider audience.
Glen Keane was the original character designer. He’s my favorite animator because his sketches were always so expressive.
-Disney.

"Frozen" and "Zootopia" are much better
I truly believe the only reason Frozen got to where it is now is because of Let It Go and no other reason.
Frozen got big because younger audiences fell in love with the soundtrack… kids born almost 10 years after Feozen still sing Let it Go
People keep talking about frozen and its annoys me..
The world took tangled for granted
I’m kind of disappointed that it didn’t earn the same amount of praise and success as Frozen because as someone who watched both movies, Tangled clearly had a better plot, villain, and characters. It was also a movie I watched a lot as a kid because I adored Rapunzel.
Something else that makes Tangled a standout to all the other Disney Princess movies (at least at the time) was that it was the first one to get a PG rating from the MPAA for “brief mild violence”. All the other Princess movies Disney had made before this one was G rated. I’ve always found that very interesting about this movie
Dang-
And I have no idea why considering there’s not that much humor or elements that could be considered offensive to parents that would justify the PG rating. Could’ve been simply rated G and wouldn’t be any different. Tangled may have been released before the abundance of animated films being rated PG, but it does feel like it contributed to the near-nonexistentence of the G-rating.
@@hunterolaughlinI think it’s because Eugene looked like he died in the ending, we saw him get stabbed Gothel turn into dust
@@hunterolaughlin it’s because of when Eugene got stabbed and you see his bloody wound
I actually never knew that. It's very interesting thanks! :)
I love Tangled. It's a 10/10 for me. What would have made it a 11 is if they kept it a 2D animation project like the original director wanted.
theres a short film and series that takes plase after the movie and has kinda 2D animation (i m pretty sure its 3d but supposed to look like 2d?)
As much as I love 2d animation, 3d was the right move for this movie for sure
I don’t agree because her hair in my opinion looks way better in 3D animation.
The king crying makes me tear up every single time. There's something about fathers being emotional that always tugs at my heart strings
Tangled > Frozen
MaKeS sENcE!
Fuck yeah!
And only one of these has gotten a tv show that takes place after the movie
Also add:
Tangled: The Animated Series > Frozen 2
And I'll kill everyone on that hill. lol
@dylanisintrouble tangled>frozen, so much better!!!
Flynn being chased by a determined Maximus is the most hilarious thing I ever seen. I guess even the pan is mightier than the sword.
Rapunzel is my favorite princess (I know it’s my profile pic). Tangled is such an amazing movie and a huge part of my childhood when I first saw it in theaters. Hopefully when I get married I use “I See the Light” as my wedding dance song
Same here
Agreed, it’s one of those movies where as you watch it more and more you appreciate how good it really is
Same
Tangled is the best animated tv show as well. It somehow made the movie even better and shows that raps thinking the best in people only made the realm better.
Also the development of Eugene was incredible
I have to disagree with that, In my opinion it's not close to top 30, Avatar the Last Airbender, Bojack Horseman are definetely superior
The tears healing eugene is actually a nod to the original fairy tale, where rapunzel’s tears drop on the prince’s blinded eyes and heals them.
So Tangled holds a very special place in my heart because of that ♡
God bless you majorly and good luck with life! :)
Definitely now we know that rapunzel has the potential to destroy frigging planets with her hair.
I’m glad to see this movie get some appreciation in the form of a video essay it really is such a beautiful movie
Tangled made this touching grass meme so emotional and heartwarming
Lol I was about to say the same
I remember when the title Tangled was revealed and people asked, why it wasn't called Rapunzel, but when you watch the movie you realize why, becuase this time they really fleshed out the prince as well, it wasn't just a reinvention of a Disney fairy tale, but one being done without detracting of the source material or just being mean spirited about it, they really deconstructed their own genre and updated it with changes like a grounded villain, a fleshed out romantic interest, and animal companions that don't speak because the expressive animation carried their characters, but especially a princess with a really relatable conflict, trying to expand your world even though that goes against what your parents have taught you, and as a teenager that really speaks to you, and they did it in a very universal way so anyone can relate no matter what.
Fun fact: Some dubs of the movie still use “Rapunzel” as the title.
Ex: French dubs title is “Raiponce”
I love how rapunzel and Eugene work together the woman isn’t super powerful they both need and respect each other
Tangled at least deserves Oscar nomination for best animated feature film. Even Frozen, a movie with weak plot, won best animated feature.
Exactly, most years it’s 5 nominated films but for some reason for 2010, it was only 3 nominations with HYTTD, TS3 and The Illusionist (which I never heard of). Tangled should’ve been there as well even though it still would’ve lost to TS3. It’s weird because 2010 was one of most stacked years for animation ever and yet there were less films nominated than years that had less memorable films
i'm so glad we all finally arrived at the collective cultural agreement that tangled is definitely a disney all-time classic. they nailed this one.
The way they executed the Toxic Relationship between Rapunzel and “Mother” Gothel
Is Pretty Realistic and Intriguing,
Even though I wasn’t a Victim of a Toxic Relationship in my Youth.
The bar scene almost felt like a scene from shrek but with an original song
Rapuzuls parent are OP, no parent can survice a disney princess movie, but they both did😮
Well Aurora’s parents survived in Sleeping Beauty, making her the first Disney Princess to have both parents alive in her film.
No matter what Disney does, Tangled will always be better than Frozen
They better not make a live action movie of this, and if they do, it better not be bad.
If they do, I’m going to cry.
I mean, it won’t look SUPER bad but they’ll probably make it worse and add unnecessary bullshit
Weirdly (or maybe fortunately) enough, they seem to have skipped over this movie and Princess and the Frog in favor of pushing out a Moana live action. I'm not complaining
Of course they will make a soulless woke LiveAction.
That's their thing now.
Gothel will be the opressed victim and Flynn a clumsy arrogant idiot.
@@Commenter839speaking of Princess and the Frog, Disney literally canceled the D+ series they promised 3-4 years ago.
Just looking at the title alone, I already like your opinion on my 2nd or 3rd favourite Modern Disney Film
You know as a child I didn’t recognize how much of a villain Gothel was. I felt bad for her when she died and thought she genuinely loved Rapunzal.
Yeah I don’t think like that anymore
This really is one of the best Disney movies and it only seems to get better every time I rewatch it
Banger movie very wholesome
Tangled my beloved :((((
Yaaaassssssss
Tangled was the best movie that I ever watched. I have watched it 10 times . I watched it when it first came out in 2010 . My wife and I took our best girl friend and her brand new son when it first came out!
Why couldn’t Tangled have gotten a sequel instead of Frozen?
I think it’s better if they didn’t, plus she got her own series.
It got a good show
It was fine on its own, a sequel wasn’t necessary because there were no parts of the story left to be told
At least it got a TV show. :)
Tangled has a TV movie Tangled:Before Ever After and Tangled:the series
Bruh, it was only a play by play of what all happened and I still sit here bawling my eyes out 😭😭😭That's how good of a story this is-!!
I think i watched this movie more times than I could count. It's a masterpiece.
The “Realistic Manipulation traits” comparison towards frollo, Is it good comparison.
Thank you! A lot of people and myself put a lot of time and effort into it. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊

@@leoriolover In my opinion, if you like Tangled, YES!!!
@@leorioloveryeah! It’s a really cool show and expands on the lore of Tangled and the flower
Yeap. Tangle is so good that even it's freaking Disney Channel animated show is good.
I mean, it's not perfect, the episodes not related to the lore of the story tend to be on the weaker side, and Cassandra's rushed development in the final season put a bit of a stain on it, but it's still easily the best tie-in TV show for a Disney movie ever.
a great movie, with a really underrated tv series
I fully agree, Mr. Aldone. Tangled is up with best Disney. So subtle e.g. Flynnegan wows Eugene ... "not bad with the ladies" but given the chance outdoors at night he doesn't come on to R.
my comfort movie
Definately one of my favourite movies by far! 🤗 ❤
oml i love tangled so this video is already great
Mother Gothel is such a GOATed villain.
You are so right on so many levels, not just this video but over 95 percent of your videos so far
While I love Tangled the series, I hate what they did to Eugene's character, favoring Cass over him.
Despite taking 18 years to do it Rapunzel touched more grass in this movie than I have in the past year
My absolute favorite movie, I know all the words by heart. I'm actually wearing a Tangled themed shirt as I type this!
Hope wish can do something like this ❤
i have to write this somewhere; Mother Gothel used the flower to keep her age. when the flower was discovered by the soldier for the king to heal Rapunzel at which point after receiving the healing potion made from the flower her hair turned blonde, we learn that she has the ability to make one younger again by brushing her hair and reciting a spell/song.
Please review the tangled tv show as well! It’s so good!
Aldone, you should probably review Meet the Robinsons and why it’s an underrated masterpiece. 😉
And trusting as there kids tend to be they fall into it every time
Tangled Series just makes this so much better even.
Imagine Disney ruining this with a remake.💀
Ew and imagine they will make her black because they are like, “WE SUPPORT BALCK PEOPLE SO WE MADE HER BLACK 😍😍🥰🥰🥰😘😘”.
My favorite movie ever being claimed as perfect? Gotta watch this
If you ask me, Tangled is the TRUE Disney anniversary film.
@@mistydragonfan1008 Yes absolutely. I love the tangled series.
Tangled one of my favorite movies and Disney princess
The First Media Key: Balance
With all things, we need a "healthy diet" (Gan, pg.
The Second Media Key: Attitude-Awareness
We need to be aware of the content creator's message that is being sent.
The Third Media Key: The Dignity of the Human Person
"All media should reflect, uphold, and enhance human dignity" (Gan, pg.
The Fourth Media Key: Truth-filled
The fourth media is truth-filled.
That hair glowing in the water part
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who enjoyed this one more than a lot of the later 3D entries (though it’s certainly not the best)
What do you think is the best?
@@mrheello5181 probably Wreck it Ralph or Moana
Also the best Disney Princess as well by the way
Honestly, Tangled is one of my favorite movies of all time!
XD
And when I say dark, I don't mean like those cheap live action horror movies of Winnie the Pooh or Steamboat Willie, I mean the same animation style as the actual movie, with just as good of writing, and just a slightly darker tone than your average Disney movie (I wouldn't want it to be like a slasher film or anything, gore really isn't impressive or interesting to me).
Hey guys, there is a therory that the movie Tangled foreshadowed the Covid-19 Pandemic!
-Rapunzel was isolated (Quarantined) from going to the kingdom of Corona and was allowed to see no one but her "family" lol
Honestly, Tangled makes Frozen look like a joke!
Frozen definitely is a wasted potential.
@@merafirewing6591 Yep!
I saw the Frozen musical on Broadway and it was honestly a lot better. The added some great songs, not to mention they fixed a lot of the story. Part of the reason they were able to do that was because it was 4 hours long or something. Really enjoyable experience.
When Tangled came out that was the feeling I got "yep, Disney is king" now they're hits and alot of misses
Can you do a video on Meg from Hercules? Or one on Mother Gothel?
It's a reworking of Mozart's The Magic Flute.
