    I have an apple tree in my garden that was given to me by my Dad in 1971, he didn't have a garden but he still loved to grow things.
    The story is, my Mum always had an apple at breakfast time every day and so he planted a pip into a pot and it grew. After a few years this seedling was getting quite tall and me and hubby had just bought a house with a garden, so he asked could we put the tree in our garden. I didn't know anything about gardening but said yes.
    That unknown apple tree is still going strong, in fact too strong, it is now so tall I'm going to get a tree surgeon in to top it. Hubby used to keep it under control but he now has dementia and can no longer do any jobs. I'm wrestling with should I have the tree removed completely or just get it topped. It's a difficult choice because of the sentimental value of the tree.
    Moral of the story is yes hybrids can produce some unknown plants. Maybe if 50 yrs ago I had known about plants, I could have grafted it into a smaller rootstock.

      That is a lovely story, Liz 💗 I'm sure you can get a tree surgeon to come and give it a good trim without killing it, if that's what you want. May be cheaper than having it removed, as well.

    Looking forward to your experiment, especially the second generation one.
    I tried it last year, peppers looked exactly the same and the taste was ok but nothing special.
    But you have inspired me, I'm going to give it a go with some tasty tomato I have in the fridge.

    I’m definitely interested in the results!! Love the name your own seed idea!

      It makes sense, doesn't it? Especially if you save seeds from things you get at the supermarket or from a plant which has been given to you without a name.

      @@robinscontainergarden it really does!! Better to have a name than a label big enough to fit: seeds given by auntie Mavis lol

      @robinscontainergarden  6 месяцев назад

      We had some lovely peppers, I just didn't get them on video. They were also yellow and long. I'm planting them again this year so will definitely make a point to video them.
