  • Got requests about making a video of how I do my tomato crossings. I've shown the process in earlier vids some years ago, but I can show it again. Hope this one can be helpful for you out there wanting to make your own crossings.
The first cross is called F1. (First generation hybrid.) After 5-6 generations with selective picking, the strain usally "breed clean" as we say. The offspring has the same characteristics, and can now be called a true to seed variety.

Very impressive! This is how they make the best f1’s and that’s why they cost a lot of money for just 10 seeds. Keep up the good work.

      Southpaw Davey urban farm.
      Thanks, mate!
Hope this was close up, and clear enough to be some help for the ones wanting to try this.
Nowadays I breed them for a special taste and the resistance to late blight and mold issues.

      Thanks my friend.
I haven't got this patience with everything, lol..
Picking dead flower leaves from my petunias is a very boring thingy. Always finding excuses for skipping that task. ;)

This was a really cool video. I have essential tremor so there is no way I could do this...but maybe I can convince my wife. She has a very steady hand.

Thanks I didn't have any idea but now I'm more interested in finding my next favorite tomatoes. Thanks for teaching SIR.
Question ❓ Will this work for any tomatoes or only heritage only.

Why leave the flower exposed like that for a day. Wouldnt that just give time for insects to incorectly pollinate it?

They're not of the same family but, would it be similar with strawberry. I'd like one day to cross some of our wild strawberry (Quebec Canada) with a domestic strawberry.
