  • Chest and breast lymphedema and swelling are common after breast cancer and melanoma cancer treatment with surgery and/or radiation. But what causes this? What places someone at risk for lymphedema of the arm and breast after cancer treatment? In this video, I share what increases someone’s risk for arm lymphedema, breast swelling and chest lymphedema after cancer treatment for both breast cancer-related lymphedema and lymphedema from melanoma cancer of the upper body, as well as share what the early signs of lymphedema are and what to look for.

The Dr's should tell people about this, so that people need to watch for this. I was never told that this could happen until I got lymphedema and swollen and sore

Thank you Kelly as always. Please remind your patients of the risk of infection in the area with lymphadema can lead to cellulitis. It often starts with pain in the infected area with lymphadema and then turns into redness. The redness and pain may start in an area far removed from the original skin break that lead to infection. Thank you for all your amazing information and videos.

As someone with breast lymphedema, thank you for posting this. I am so surprised about how many doctors do not discuss lymphedema in areas other than the arm. Also, many lymphedema organization website don't mention it either. It is really hard to get reputable information on breast lymphedema. Thankfully, I have a great therapist who helps me manage my lymphedema daily at home. Please continue to provide breast lymphedema resources as they are very hard to come by. Thank you so much for all that you do!

Thank you for answering my questions about lymphedema in my chest. I've had lymphedema in my left lower leg (worst case with cellulitis and weeping) and my right leg lower leg is not as bad, for quite a while. I used to go to Lymphedema PT for my legs. Then the big C hit and I did the chemo, then lumpectomy (some of my right B and arm pit), then radiation. Then the lymphedema showed up in my right B. I wrap my legs with pharaoh (sp) wraps daily and for a while I went to Lymphedema PT for my legs and B, talk about awkward. The B has me stumped. I can't wrap it like I wrap my legs. My only therapy is constantly massaging my B. Not awkward at all. Then I saw your videos about lymphatic drainage massage and tried that. How often am I supposed to do this massage? If I wear bras that are small tight sports bras, the lymphedema in my B takes a little longer to cause discomfort, but wearing a sports bra that is too small has a different discomfort all together. What kind of schedule should I use for the lymphatic drainage exercise? How often? I'm really getting tired of massaging my B all the time. You have been giving me good information and I could use some good suggestions. Thanks for your help.

Hi. Thank you for your videos. Could you please tell me if flying is still considered a risk factor. When I had surgery in 2018, my surgeon told me not to fly without a lymphedema sleeve. Now that I have a trip coming up, I asked my oncologist and he said he didn't think I needed one. The nurse, however, recommended a 15-20 mmhg as a preventative measure.

I had 3 lymph nodes removed in my arm I received chmo and radiation. I do feel as though I am numb in my under arm. I had two double mastectomys do to radiation therapy burned me and then reactivated. So, i actually do not have breast. Its been 5 years of healing this area. Im looking for any advice you have for a small reconstruction surgery.
I have to have my blood pressure taken in my leg. Also, I gained a lot of weight however, in the last 6.weeks ive lost 42 pounds! Faster then I knew i had lost it. Im not sure why the sudden loss in weight i normally wouldn't fuss. But. I am doing nothing different. Im just dropping weight fast. Have you heard of this?
