  • Compression bras and inserts are used after breast surgery, such as a mastectomy, reconstruction, or augmentation to help decrease swelling and pain. They are also used as an essential piece of the puzzle to manage breast and chest lymphedema and swelling. In this video, I share a couple compression bras, plus a few other tools, to help decrease breast swelling and lymphedema.

    Well, I stumbled across this video right after I had a lat flap partial mastectomy. I'm sure it was because I'd been searching for the right compression bra, but the timing was perfect. I've had several breast surgeries over the last few years and as a larger woman, I couldn't find anything that didn't sit right on top of my incisions or a longer line that didn't roll right up into a wad on the incisions. I got the vest one because I also have the incision on my back. It was perfect! (Although it doesn't "roll" but it "flips up." I'm making a distinction because while I wish it didn't do either of those things, having it flip up just once feels different to me. Better, IMO. After I wore it 24/7 for a few days, I ordered the extender so I can have a little ease when I sleep. The compression is definitely in the right places ... on my back incision, under my arm and on the breast. It's very different from a sports bra and well worth the money! Order the extender at the same time. If you don't need it you can send it back. If you do need to order it, you have to pay more shipping and wait for it to show up. They also provide an insurance code, so check to see if your insurance might cover it. I wound up buying two since I'll be in it for 3 months. Thanks for the info on this - much appreciated!

    Hi, in my case I have tried to use a compression camisole but after 2 hours, more or less, I get a bad headache. My therapist says that she hasn’t heard about this before but it does happen to me. Is this normal or should I just quit using them?

      @CancerRehabPT 😂 oh ! hehehe,
      I wondered what ? I've had a double mastectomy left and right (one month between each other)
      The the right side's been brilliant. No problems at all, The left side was done 2 weeks ago, and it is huge. It looks like another breast has grown , I don't have any infection. I've got a compression bra, I've been exercising, massaging, etc
      But it's not going down. 🧡 😔

      What do you suggest I should do.
      I had a double mastectomy with one month between them in October. The right side was operated on with no complications.
      In November, the left side was operated on, with no infection, healed up brilliantly. also, good news I now have no cancer.
      BUT
      Each week since the last operation, I have had to go back to the hospital to have the fluid syringed out of it.
      It is tight and huge and tender and painful.
      Then, the next few hours up to a day after the syringing, the fluid starts to come back. Whether I wear a compression top or not,
      what would you suggest?
      (Each time the fluid has changed colour) 1st time It looked like clear apple juice, 2nd time it was darker, 3rd time it looked more blood colored ? !
      The nurses keep asking me what I am doing ? I am literally trying to rest it. That's all. I barely use my left hand. I am right-handed, too.
      thank you 💜
