I am in the middle of my radiation treatment and I'm already feeling so tired. Everybody around me has a sort of an expectation of me that I need to stay positive all the time. It creates so much pressure and anxiety. I feel like if I'm not "listening to their advice to stay positive" then I'm failing. Yes, I felt mental and physical fatigue for about 6 weeks after radiation. Physical activity is very helpful, I lift for a living at work 4hrs a day 5 days a week, it was painful at times and hard to push through my work day, but I truly believe exercise helped me heal quicker and helped me mentally focus on something besides treatment. This video is spot on, Jen. My naturopath concurs and said to consider this time as convalescence. I just want to add that, in my experience, recovery is not a straight line graph. Thank you so much for this video, it has helped as a sanity check as I'm sooo tired and sleeping a ridiculous amount I feel like I'm losing my mind! Totally makes sense now you put it like this. Radiation feels like double-dipping the fatigue that is continuing after the chemo, but I know that it will pass and very much look forward to that! Also having some really annoying hot flashes which I guess the chemo has triggered, so sleeping at night can get awkward since that's when they are worst. Videos like this are so helpful in knowing I'm not just losing my mind 😊👍️

I would also add the drop in hormone levels for many of us. I was feeling great on Natural Hormone Therapy when I was diagnosed and had to stop cold turkey. Luckily I am in my early 60's so menopause itself has probably behind me. I am , however, having some hot flashes, experiencing major brain fog and just feel worn out on most days. I've had lumpectomy 2 months ago and I'm on the last session of radiation which lasted 3 weeks total. No real side effects from the radiation. A bit more tired but it's more likely from being diagnosed with breast cancer, surgery 2 weeks after that, and then the radiation. Not to mention the shock of it all. Too much to assimilate all at once. I have not been feeling more tired than usual considering all that. I hope my experience helps someone.

I've been dealing with my cancer for over 4 years, having had 60 rounds of radiation and 20 months of chemo. It reappeared a half year ago and I had to get more radiation. The fatigue is the hardest factor for me to adjust to. I had been able to exercise with aerobics, mini-trampolines, weights, machines and recently I started red-light therapy over the last couple of months. I can go for 10 days or so, but then I hit a wall and all I can do is sleep. I simply can't do anything. But, after a week, I rise up and restart the battle again. I don't know if I'll recover back ever, but I don't want to give up yet. My friends, relatives and spouse still don't understand why I can't spring back and participate in activities like before, but I have given up trying to explain things to them. They really can't grasp the full impact and I guess I can't expect them to.

ok i dont know if i am taking this the wrong way but this video didnt help me one bit. I was expecting to hear the actual science behind the raditation that is making us fatigued, not our mental state of mind. smfh i was not fatigued at all before starting radiation, im an active person and now i cant even sweep my floors without stopping in between to sit down because im exhausted. I cant even cook a meal or do my laundry without being physically exhausted!! So to make a video saying its because we went through all these treatments and blah blah blah thats why were fatigued instead of explaining what the radiation is doing to us, shows you really dont know! It is literally the radiation being put into our bodies that is causing this extreme fatigue!!!!
Hi, sorry this video didn't meet your expectations. I think I was trying to approach it from the angle that many factors contribute to the fatigue during / following Radiation, not just the Radiation itself. Jen

This was so very informative & so very helpful....

Praying for all of us too!!!

I am getting ready to begin radiation treatment and am thankful for this advice. I struggles with people telling me i am strong when I felt like jello. People think they are being positive for you but it was upsetting for me.
Almost done Jen! 3 more sessions to go! Thank you so much for all of your videos, they have really helped me through this wild journey.❤️
Well done for getting through! But as I often discuss, the hard work does start after treatment finishes. It is a wild journey and a tough one for sure. Jen x
Got a flue straight after Radiation treatment.Kept me in bed for 2 weeks.probably a good thing as I know I would have been doing other things and not looking after me.Now I've had time to think things through.mourn.cry.celebrate my life and start again. The journey in life has its highs and definitely its lows.Am learning to take each day as it is,and so after Radiation, and various treatments take care of your self first.

Incredible video, well presented, extremely informative with empathy and true understanding - Bless you and thank you
I would also add the drop in hormone levels for many of us. I was feeling great on Natural Hormone Therapy when I was diagnosed and had to stop cold turkey. Luckily I am in my early 60's so menopause itself has probably behind me. I am , however, having some hot flashes, experiencing major brain fog and just feel worn out on most days. There is so much going on it is no wonder we feel exhausted. I find myself laying down all the time and it really upsets me that I cannot do what I was doing just over a month ago.
Hi Tony, I agree with you. The topic of menopause and chronic fatigue post treatment is really under addressed. Months after radiation had stopped, I still felt drained and getting worse. I found out I had developed a B12 deficiency that the oncologist did not look for.

Excellent video and advice❤
Thank you Jen, This topic was great timing for me as l only completed radiation last week and it has helped me understand how l am feeling today. Joan Holley
So great to hear this resonated with you Joan! I really feel the fatigue is so much more than just the radiation. Jen x

@@TheBreastCancerPhysio Thank you for the invite Jen, but I am not on FB. Done with the radiation now for almost 3 weeks and will be starting on Aromatase Inhibitor this Sunday. This is the one I really, really fear. A LOT!

Lovely video ihad 12 sessions already 13 more togo i do feelvery. Tired

I sleep day and night now and now I’m even more worried that I’ll have the cancer come back because radiation causes cancer
I am about to start and have so many fears. Thanks for all the great information.
Hi Maureen, if you want to talk to me further about those fears I can probably alleviate quite a few! Let me know if you'd like to do a video consult. Jen x
Thank you so much for your video. This is so me right now. I appreciate your reassuring words.
Thank you for your videos - they are very informative and I am grateful. I will be starting my radiation in 2 wks and will definitely keep your points in mind as I am already exhausted post chemo 🙏🙏

Awww! Thank you so much Maha!! Appreciate your comment and for watching my video! x
Thank you!!!
I am half way through radiation and only just beginning to experience some minor side effects. I have found the side effects to be brushed aside, just use cream!
The other problem for me is covid. My life is so limited because I cannot risk catching it and delaying treatment. It would extend it another 7 days but that seems an eternity. I cannot do all the normal activities. This has made it so much harder for me.

still have pains in my legs and some numbness in my feet, the meds for pain are helping a bit, no one can tell me how long it will last or if I will be like this forever? Anyway I soldier on and keep myself busy, just got a little puppy to keep me focused on my gorgeous fur baby, Hope all is well with You? Cheers Zaira 😊

My mom completed radiation therapy about 12 days ago. But everyday body temperature is increased. We consulted with doctor and they give pills for feaver only. And now she is so weak to swallow any food.Dont know what to do now.
Hi Saikat, so sorry for my delayed reply. It sounds like your Mother may have an infection. Diagnosis is the most important first step so keep pushing the Medical Professionals to determine a diagnosis, then the correct medical treatment can be applied. I hope this helps. Jen
@@TheBreastCancerPhysio thank you so much for your guidance.
You have no idea additional side effect you have after radiation for colon cancer. All get colonoscopy, please. And more often than recommended 10 years. Safe yourself.
ok i dont know if i am taking this the wrong way but this video didnt help me one bit.
You don't really clinically answer your title question
Hi, sorry this video didn't meet your expectations. I think I was trying to approach it from the angle that many factors contribute to the fatigue during / following Radiation, not just the Radiation itself. Jen
