- The mom of a Louisiana bride is finding herself at the center of a social media firestorm. People online are saying Lori Dewitt upstaged her daughter at her child's wedding. Chloe LeBlanc, who recorded the video, says the bride was with her mother when they went dress shopping and she approved the dress. "I definitely think there were a lot of people who were a tad bit jealous of how gorgeous she was," LeBlanc says.
If the dress was white, it’d be a different story for me.

I disagree. Some people don't wear white dresses for weddings, especially if it's not their first wedding or if it's not a traditional wedding. The mother dress still looks like a wedding dress, especially with that train on the dress.

"Upstaging" is in the eye of the beholder. Daughter obviously was confident in her own gown, beauty, youth and her big day.

exactly my thought...I watch some Nigerian and Ghanaian wedding highlights on some youtube channel and I was amazed...the dresses, the make up and the colours...really another level...I thought indians were best at it but theirs were hands down

My mom wore a white dress to my wedding. My mom was absolutely stunning. Yet, being a fuller figure woman, she had low self-esteem and never felt comfortable or pretty. When we went dress shopping, she found an amazing dress to try on. However, the sample was white. When my mom walked out in this dress, she was glowing and absolutely beautiful. I had never seen her smile so big or twirl around the way she did that moment. I cried harder seeing her in that dress then I think she did seeing me in mine. lol. When we were told they didn’t have any other colors available in her size she immediately went to look for another dress. I forced her to wear that dress. Tragically my parents and brother lost their lives not long after. Words cannot express how grateful I am that I didn’t let silly traditions or strangers opinions affect my decision. Nothing makes me happier than watching the video or looking at them pictures and seeing how beautiful and confident she looked. We need to keep our opinions to ourselves and allow others to be happy. Life is hard enough on its own, we don’t need to make big deals out of nonexistent problems. This wedding was for their family. If their family was happy, why on earth would anybody else have a problem?

Honestly I'm with those who thought mom overstepped. A dress with a train is definitely not "totally appropriate for the mother of the bride" especially with adding to the fact that it's sleeveless in addition. No way unless someone rewrote the handbook for wedding etiquette overnight

It’s normal, and expected, to look your best at any wedding. After being in 15 of them and having my own, I also know that there’s nothing wrong with what the mother of the bride is wearing here. She looks fantastic and so does the bride.

that bride has always had a beautiful mother. i’m sure she is very proud of her mom. and we moms have to teach our daughters to be strong and independent before we encourage them to marry. throwing out traditional stereotypes for older moms and daughters as well is a must.

As an Asian, I agree. I find it mind boggling how in the US, it would be an unforgivable sin if another woman wears white on someone else's wedding. Coz here in Asia, or maybe just in my part of Asia, Philippines, it is automatic that the center of attention is the bride, it's impossible to upstage the bride and groom. I've seen some weddings where the mothers of both the bride and groom sometimes were wearing whites and it's no big deal. Nobody "upstaged" nobody here. Two gorgeous women, stunning members each of her own's generation, a breath taking bride in that gorgeous dress, and a really fit and chique mother of the bride in a well pucked up floral dress.

Sequined gown for me . She wasn’t insecure, just wanted her Mom & thus her Bridal party to look their best . I think it’s jealousy about how great her Mom looked. Lots of Moms have to dress to hide their shapes , but this mom was Classy and Elegant and didn’t have to look like a cruse ship in a MuMu .

It's not about technically "being" upstaged as a bride but rather more so about the other person "trying" to upstage the bride and she definitely looked like she was trying to upstage her considering what she chose to wear. If she wasn't trying to upstage her daughter, she would not have broken every rule in the etiquette wedding book

The commentator made it about jealousy but the issue is not her beauty but rather the dress she chose. Completely inappropriate for an American wedding.
