Great video showing the average Joe how to keep a mower deck solid for years to come! One suggestion I have is before resorting to the pressure washer or hose, take a drywall taping knife or paint scraper and scrape as much of the buildup off as you can. MUCH less messy and it’s kinda fun to see the bottom of the deck pop out as you do! I often find lawn tractors with the decks rotted out for the same reasons. I learned my advice from my dad, who kept a 1966 John Deere 110 in beautiful shape for years. Original deck and not a speck of rot on it! Sadly, I sold it last year because, well, I’m an idiot!
Greetings from New Zealand. Lawn mowing is almost a national sport all year around. Hot wet conditions make the grass grow up you trouser leg in a few days. For steel deck, before use, spray with WD40 or CRC. It stops the grass sticking. After every use wipe off and respray.Deck will last for years. Having said that a lot of mowers here are alloy and my two are close to 40 years old. Thanks for some of the tips. Nice site.
thanks to you bud just bought one and did all the engine checks and it's a plastic deck I watched so many videos on your help and advice and made my first purchase of petrol lawnmower and because I know what to look out for it was good condition and runs smooth, got it for £50, just like to say thanks your channels helping others repair and buy lawnmowers and not to be scared to own one and how these engines work, love your videos keep up great content and thanks again your awesome 😁👍👍
Hi another good video, I clean the bottom of my mower every 3/6 months, I got a frend who have a very good Honda mower that has got a big whole in the deck I have just got the same model of ebay with a blown engine so I can switch the engine over, I will give the bottom a spray with some stone chip, it will give me something to do, keep the videos coming. I've just taken the engine off mine because the paint was coming off on the top side of the mower, especially around the engine. Probably because of petrol leaking down there every time I fill it up too much, and then I go smashing it up sideways up around a steep bank.
Just an idea instead of repainting the base every year or so I started using car underseal a few years back it's worked a treat so far, loved the vids so far. N
We have a lot of sand in S FLA, so the paint under there gets blasted off.

Great video! Ive been told some lawn mowers can be tipped over to one side or the other but you can fill up the air filter with oil. Sounds to me like each mower has it's recommended side to tip over. Some say to tip flat with the handle on the ground and front in the air. It seems confusing. Either way, try to find the proper way to tip the mower that you own. Thanks and great job!

It’s amazing the difference a bit of paint can make. Looks good mate. What’s your thoughts on fitting a wash port on a mower. Is it worth having one on? I scored one for free the other day. Will it rust out my deck if I keep washing it after a mow. ?

Have you ever repaired a ryobi mower. I cannot get to belt or gearbox? Done loads hondas and everything with B&S engined ones. .? Cant find anything on the net to help..... thanks

Good Job there. I dropped my engine out yesterday and pressure washed. Just need to get some paint as mine looks like yours before painting. Is it worth putting petrol resistant lacquer on the top side of the deck as well?
