#1 thing to do is mow when the grass is DRY! I know you can't allways do that but I can because I am retired. I just wait until the grass is dry and never mow in the AM hours. I mow later in the afternoon. Recently, I had to change my blades and the underside was very good. I wirebrushed it and painted it with some old spray paint that needed to be used up. It was beautiful, looked brand new! Happy mowing!😀
They're cutting wet grass, most likely in the morning, I personally cut my grass in the afternoon when the sun has dried it already, great video thanks for the idea.
@TheShowtime85 I like to leave the paint in the best possible condition. It prevents rust, especially for steel decks. My current mower is 20yrs old .
Interesting, the Grass Buster deck scraper is my go to. Works great. I would just grind off the pointy edges on that trowel and it might be even better and similar to the one I use. Also when I install Oregon G3 or G5 or Stens Silver Streak I find the decks stay way cleaner. Thanks for the video.
I enjoy your tutorials, they are great, well done , please keep going. Trevor Hullett from the county of Suffolk, England. We also run a small engine shop.
After I scrape, I spray the underside with a 25:75 mix of oil and diesel/old gas. Helps to slow the rusting and gets oil right into the little nooks. Old farmers trick.
Even if you just add one additional cleaning of your mower deck, will save the steel much more effectively. So try and squeeze in a deck cleaning around right after the 4th of July, you'll be better off. In the Spring and early summer, the ground and also the grass is much wetter and "stickier". Most of the grass from the deck in this video is from April & May time frame.. Give it a shot. You'll be happy you did it in the fall and pre-spring cleanings, and save a few years of deck steel! ✌️
Thanks from the OLD MAN Mick, hope you and yours are also safe and sound. Yep seen the Grass Buster but this baby does the trick very easily for cheap! Good idea to round off the outside corners though.
I’m sick of scraping zero turn and started washing after each mow but our soil has a lotta clay which doesn’t always wash off. It’s sucks either way washing or scraping
I have a friend that cleans his deck then coats it with resin like you use on fiberglass. To me he over kills. What is your deck protector preference? Always look forward to your shows.
And undercoat the bottom with RustCure 3000 rust preventative and Bob's your uncle. Another interesting video, easy to grind those sharp corners in and put in a radius if your inclined to do so.
Now if that was me, after I scraped and cleaned that filthy red mower deck and the owner then came to pick it up and pay for it, I would proceed to slap that customer right across the back of his head like Moe did to Curly and Larry.
I took the advice from some viewers and rounded off the sharp edges on the tip, using the bench grinder. It works great and is less aggressive now.

The trowel idea is good , I would put a sharp edge on the front of it to help get under the grass . Great video .

I have always used the Plastic Putty Knives to minimize Scratches in the Deck. They work real good!
Who cares about scratches under a mower deck. 🤦♂️
@@TheShowtime85 i about pissed myself when I read that. And I thought I was anal

A mower should be cleaned after every mowing. I do it. I like that mulching blade. I’d like one for my mower.👍🏻

Hey friend, always valuable information ..... thanks for sharing!!
good day Yes it was interesting especially when you showed wet spot. Thanks

I got me the Taryl Dactal special! Those sharp corners make me nervous.

Well done 👍...... I have a r1000 2017 craftsman rear mower. I'd like to replace my drive and blade belt. How difficult is it?
On my lawnmover i connect water hose and clean out grass after each use
I prefer to just get out my electric pressure washer to clean out decks like that. But in substitute in the field. That scraper can be handy.
Yea nothing beats high pressure, but like you said, it's nice to have something in the field!
Me too. Do several at a time when servicing.
Just ordered a couple 5 inch from ctc.

Yo yo from the 🇬🇧.. I use a tool called a grass buster. It's a great tool.. hope you and the old man are keeping safe.. take her easy
Grass Buster! Will have to check it out! Thanks Mick, cheers from Ontario!

You stretched it to 15 mins lol, i couldnt do it. I watched your ads though without skipping.
Lol thanks for stopping by
Take it to your grinder and round the edge good vid thanks

Hi! What tachometer you use (electronic) for 4 stroke small engines? Thanks!!!

Rust cure formula 3000, it's the stuff I use to undercoat my truck!
Thanks
1 inch chisel works perfectly fine...I mean perfectly fine!!
And undercoat the bottom with RustCure 3000 rust preventative and Bob's your uncle. Another interesting video, easy to grind those sharp corners in and put in a radius if your inclined to do so.
Good to know!
I was thinking of just using an old mower blade. Would have more reach.
I thought you were going to attach a brush on the shaft and show me how to clean my deck. Haha.
It is definitely better than the small one, but you will still bust your knucless if blade is on.
Mortified by the sharp metal corners
I ended up rounding them off after hearing some suggestions from viewers, works much better!
Thats why you hose off your mower after each use.
The ultimate preventative maintenance: Don't mow wet grass! LOL Nice tool review!
If you don't have a pressure washer; that's a good tool.
It's like telling the same people to brush teeth and wash hands.
Hi
👍
Now spray with "Pam" cooking spray it won't stick!
We use rust cure formula 3000!
Round the corner off and it’s better and easier to use
Yes I've since rounded off both corners, I even use the back side pulling in reverse and it works great!
Now if that was me, after I scraped and cleaned that filthy red mower deck and the owner then came to pick it up and pay for it, I would proceed to slap that customer right across the back of his head like Moe did to Curly and Larry.
LOL it is a shame what a beautiful mower this once was. I'll be doing a overview of my own personal mower shortly!
Yes LOL Thanks
I cannot believe that people bring in their mowers for service in that condition, lol.
Yea it needs lots of work, coming back for bearings and bushings on the drive system soon once parts come in
Seriously? Why not? They cant service their own mower...u think they can clean it? Lol
Bull nose trowel for me
Nice, thanks for watching!
