I went through exactly the same as you with a tecumseh engine. The primer test got me until I found a RUclips video. Once it was all back together the engine started first pull cold or warm. I like them. Spares are harder to get hold of but run well when sorted. Just fiddly.
@@MowerMan Yep. I work full time with small engines (small 2 stroke up to quadbikes, ride on mowers etc). For smaller stuff an impact driver is fab; you can use bit sets for Phillips and Allen and torx etc and then nut drivers for nuts and bolts. Amazon does a good set by tacklife of nut drivers. Saves so much time!
Thanks for the tip about the primer circuit needing the bolt in to work. Thanks to that I've just mowed the lawn instead of racing round trying to locate a plunger service kit which it didn't need! I found the Tecumseh not too bad to work on when I took it apart for the first time in ~15 years yesterday. It's had no maintenance whatever (other than new blades) as witness the fact that I didn't even know how to undo the air cleaner clip. It stopped because a piece of disintegrating air cleaner foam was stuck in the venturi. I also replaced a couple of small bolts that had gone missing without impairing its functioning. It's never even needed oil, someone overfilled it when it was new and I've been waiting ever since to add some and it's still above the 'full' mark.
The bolt holding the wheel sheared off on my last mower, couldn't find one to get it replaced, took it to the mower shop, said it would cost $70.00 to repair. So I checked the price of new mowers at Home Depot and purchased a brand new one for $150.00. In this case the cost or time to repair was not worth it.
isitebuild that’s your first problem you went to Home Depot. Why? Go to a local dealer, you’ll get parts from them and easier to work with. My family own a garden machinery buisness
Good fix, I didn’t know that about the primer. Are you sure you have the bowl oriented correctly? The higher side should go under the hinge, the Lower part under the free end of the float. Rarely see brand T anymore. From S Fl where it’s 80 and overcast with spotty showers.

well i have a tecumseh lawnmower that wont prime and i just bought a new carburetor and installed it and im still having the same problem..it wont prime. any ideas?
Great video. I have one of these motors on a Craftsman walk behind string trimmer. I installed a new Carb and it worked great for the first few starts. Now it won't prime. It will start and run with starter fluid. What other reasons would there be for not priming? Tanks!
BEFORE you tackle the two carburettor mounting bolts at 12:30, just undo the throttle cable clamp (1 screw) and take off the top plate (2 screws) and lift it up. This makes access to the carb mounting bolts so much easier!
I bought a mower from a rubbish tip with a Tecumseh engine and the primer bulb was broken but what s pain it was to replace it but sorted it and sold it for a good profit
Okay, thank you. The supplier asked me for the engine number to check but the plate is missing - I don’t suppose you have an engine number I could use please?
These are the OEM Italian Dellorto carbs but there's a later problem one that blows petrol. It has a black priming button and much smaller cast body. It may still be possible to get working after cleaning so don't give up all hope.
How fortuitous for me. Same problem with my 2003 Tecumseh ELV120 / 195cc/ marketed at 6.5hp. No prime, kickback, won't start. Flywheel key okay, valve train works properly, carb. cleaned. Wish me luck. Narragansett Bay
Just stumbled upon your channel mate its excellent. Ive been fixing and selling mowers for years and yes couldnt agree more, tecumseh are ok but they are crap to work on and never actually seem to run that sweet. Briggs 35 classic is a gem of an engine.
Help! I need to remove the top engine plastic cover/cowl to access the recoil starter on a Tecumseh Spectra 50 engine? It seems to be secured in place with two plastic clip inserts, one on each side, that I can’t budge at all. I have tried local lawnmower repairers with no success. I can provide photos if any one can assist.
So what was it that prevented starting? My Tecumseh is'nt starting at all either, that's why I watched this, but you don't say or show the reason, the one part, that failed and prevented starting. Alan, in Norfolk.
hi, Paul, I have the exact same carb as you are servicing but someone tried to repair the primer bulb with mastic which has entered all the ports in the area of the bulb do you know the part number for a new carb or ebay description/ number many thanks steve
Hi The most important thing is the bowl nut you have to Clean the holes in it ,you have to CLEAN the gas tank , and no ethanol in the gas .. this carb is ready threatened by ethanol . 'these engines are very common her IN CANADA . Ed from Loretto Ontario Canada .
I see you clean it after,,,I make it first thing,,,,Also something else cough my attention the fuel/carb bowl, over here in the U.S we have to align the bold with the float, on this kind of carb's and this same bowl..
Wish I knew someone who is conscientious about how they service someone else's machinery. As opposed to just after your money and take no care of other people's property!
I'm in the middle of watching this video and had to stop, and comment... Bro,,,,,you need to at least blow off all that crap or hose it off, spray some degreaser and quick hose off, and wala done.....for me or for free or for business, I would never touch that and take apart with out cleaning it first.
WTF a plastic deck never seen one on a petrol mower unless it's electric and the rear wheel setup. not many old mowers in Australia have that bar you have to hold to keep the mower running and i do own a techumseh vantage 35 since new from 2004 and that mtd has the same carburetor set up same as mine and yeah they are a bastard
Man my landlord went to jail and he wants me to mow the lawn He's got pretty much the same type mower sitting in the garage been fighting with that bastard all day Don't want to put any actual money into it.... Same issue won't start at all doesn't even try...

your a lifesaver iv spent 4 hours trying to fix throttle cables, after watching your videos realise iv reconnected them wrong thanks.
Thanks for the video. Got my mower going again. Great tip pointing out the little hole in the bolt as that's what was causing the problem.

AlTec O.P.E They always run well eventually
@@MowerMan today i went through this thing also. But i removed the upper plank also . Nice video.Great explained and usefull .
Get yourself a 12v impact driver and a set of cheap 1/4 hex nut drivers and you'll save yourself a crazy amount of time! Great vid as always!
MaximumZargon Do you mean for all the small bolts?

Excellent spot.. I did re-assemble the carb the first time and it was leaking. Tbh I was unsure why but now I know!

Hello, I have an identical engine and need to order a replacement emulsion tube, do you by any chance know the part number please?
Richard Nunn I don't unfortunately. They aren't easy to get hold of. Try looking for a full carb

The easiest way to get the carb. off is to remove the muffler to gain access to that one hidden intake bolt.
