- I fix a crack in this years main hunting bow. I violated the growth ring during the build process which cause the wood to start splintering. Without immediate repairs the bow may break and become kindling.

I just broke a limb on my first bow for the same reason. It is wild maple. I'm going to try this and then hang it on the wall. 😋 Another nice video.
Very good job and great information
Very helpful video! Thank you
Nicely done!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Great work man!
Thank you!
Good job!
Natives patched their bows with sinew
Sinew is incredible stuff! I've sinew backed a few bows but have done a sinew patch yet.
@@thewayidoit6312 us stick bow guys have to stick together!everything's compound bows today people have no talent and skills and they don't really want to learn anything
How long did you wait till you braced the bow back up?
I braced and shot it the next day since the cure time for the superglue gel was listed as 12-24 hours. Thats been a year ago and this bow is still shooting great.
@@thewayidoit6312 awesome! Thanks for the info! Any creaking or cracking noises on that initial brace? You are a life saver!
@@thewayidoit6312 I just strung my bo and heard so cracking sounds, but I’m not sure if it’s the layers of brittle glue cracking or the bow😅
Mine didn't make any cracking noises but I had one in the past I tried to fix with superglue only and it did have some tics. The key is to get your wrap tight and wrap further than you think is needed. Depending on the severity of the splinter lift, the bow could still fail so wear safety glasses.
@@thewayidoit6312 okay will do! Hopefully it’s the just the glue cracking but we will see. Thanks for the video!
What thread you used???
This is some serving thread I had laying around. You can get it from any archery supply store.
Superglue (cyanoacrylate) is no good for wood as a gap filler. The only thing holding the splinter down is the thread. Youd be much better off using thin hide glue or wood glue. Superglue in time will break up like sugar even if you never touch it. It is bad when stressed and or heated. This is such a common mistake with superglue users. Your repair will probably hold but only because of the thread wrap. Superglue will help protect the thread from wear so that is good.
You are right that superglue alone would not hold. That is why the fix includes the thread. If I did this today I would have used tb3 on the splinter and thread just because I've learned over time how great it works on just about everything. However, this fix is still going strong and shows no signs of wear despite heavy use.
