Thanks for the instruction. I have a wooden self-bow of Osage with a splinter. Now I'll be able to repair the bow. Flaxen Saxon.

Go with the flow ... when life gives ya lemons! Nice rescue. Use of painters tape is idea I will use ... thanks. Your technigues for beginning and ending string wrap works equally well when serving the bowstring.

Yeah, blue tape is my third and fourth hands in this type of project. It’s indispensable in my shop.

I'll be trying this out on a bow i bought and didnt realize how bad a crack was.

Would you want to glue the crack before wrapping? You could flood the crack with water thin super glue, clamp until dry and then wrap.

You could certainly flow some glue into the crack as an extra measure of safety, but I don’t think I would yet to think superglue - just run it in as is - most are quite viscous right out of the bottle.

think id flow some hide glue and wrap with sinew. Mater of fact thats what im doing now thats why im here. His process is how I wrap my atlatl darts at the nock and tips. I havent tried the nail acrylic. Thats prolly a good idea. Ill have to get some from my wife. She does nails.

      Thanks for watching!
I used a linen thread (flax) and I finish off the repair by soaking the wraps in superglue.

I have a tru-oil finish on my bow. Do I need to remove the finish first? Also, will any fast-dry clear coat for nails work or is that the special kind? And finally, I am having trouble finding un-waxed linen thread, is waxed thread ok?

For this style or repair it is not necessary to remove the original finish - no matter what it is. Any liquid hardener will do the trick with super glue probably being your best bet with any clear nail acrylic being a suitable second - that may require additional refresher coats down the line. As for unwaxed linen thread look to your nearest sewing supply store. I don’t think they run wax through fabric sewing machines. I would not suggest a waxed thread simply because no matter what hardener you decide to use, it will not be able to soak into the thread to solidify the repair.
