- If you are in your fifties like us and want to get back into BMX again but aren't sure if you should go with a 24" or a 26" BMX cruiser, hopefully we can help you out. We're out riding the Monzas and compare the two to see who it would be best for. Now there are also the 27.5" and 29" sizes which we did not cover. In the end this is just our opinion and the best bet is for you to see if you can get on some of the different sized bikes to see for yourself which size you prefer. Thanks for watching!

I bought a 24 SE So Cal Flyer last year at about half price online.
I am just under 6' tall, 55 year old female who had the best time of her life in the early 80's .
My first BMX was a Dodsun Surfer BMX, 20" wheel, I raced and learned an number tricks on this bike too. It's nice to own a 'big' BMX and just ride it!
I live in the UK and the place I live is quite hilly so siding a single gear bike is challenging as I am not as fit as I used to be.
If I don't remember you? Does that mean we had a real good time? 👍
None of us are as fit as we used to be so don’t feel bad about that at all! Bernie and I were on our normal ride yesterday and were winded on the last hill we come up to as we sort of finish our ride. SE makes a few bikes with gears if you are looking for something easier to pedal. We’re actually looking at the Killer Quad now for Bernie’s wife. Thank you so much for sharing your comment and for watching!! We appreciate it!!
Another great video. I loved the backstory of how you guys reconnected and got back into BMX in recent years.
I have a 24” Monza with Skyways and a 26” GT Performer. I’m 5’10”, and I have a little more fun on the 24”. But you’re right that it comes down to the riding style. I sort of compare it to my car and my wife’s car. I drive a small little MINI Cooper and my wife drives a minivan. For long distances, vacations, etc. I’d much rather drive the van. For a short trip around town, joy rides, etc. the MINI is the way to go. If I’m going to ride long distances and casual cruising, I’ll prefer my 26”. For shorter rides, or rides at the pump track or single track in the woods, the 24” is my choice. If I had to pick just one size, I’d probably go with the 24”. Also, the 24” Monza with skyways is a couple pounds lighter than the 26” Monza with spoke wheels, so that helps with it feeling a little more agile too.
My skyways don’t make that screeching sound when braking, but the front one jitters a bit when braking. My understanding is that’s fairly common with Skyways, even the 20” ones back in the day. Not sure if you checked already, but the brake pads on your 24” might need to be toed in again to reduce the vibrations that cause the screeching sounds. But yeah, fun video. It’s always fun to follow along with you guys 👍
Thanks for sharing this! Totally agree with your comments. It all depends on the ride and what you want to do. Love seeing your channel grow. Your videos are awesome! Thanks for watching ours! 🤙🏻
I'm 48 and never knew they made bmx bikes my size 🤷🏼♂️ I found my actual first bmx bike on marketplace awhile ago. It still had the handles I put on it back then so I knew! The bike is totally trashed but I still had to buy it. It got ne all nostalgic and now I want to get a bmx again. Going to get a Lost Saint with 24" tires and customize it. Cruise around town with my Cane Corso and annoy people by doing street photography
That's crazy! I would so love to get my Kuwahara Lazer Lite back that my mom sold to a co-worker's kid for just $50 when I was in college. Nearly broke my heart! 😂. That's amazing that you were able to get your bike back! Yeah, now that we're older, we can get back on these bigger BMX bikes and feel like a kid again! Most of the old school brands have bikes now in the bigger size. Thanks for sharing your story and for watching the video! 🤙🏻
It's funny how Gen X guys are going back to their roots. We did the life thing and now we need to go back staying healthy because guys our age are starting to fade away. So we go back to what we know. No 10 speed road bikes, just a single speed BMX bike is all we need. I wish I can still surf. I get a pounding headache after being in the wash. It could be from all the concussions I got when I was younger. Being old sucks.
I feel you bro. Getting old does suck cause the mind tells you “can” and the body is like “no can” ! 😂 I am single speed all day with my BMX bikes. I just ride ‘em like that and charge the hills if I gotta. I have to say that I love being back on a BMX bike again!! Thanks for watching and sharing that comment!!
As a fellow old guy coming into my 50s very soon, it was so refreshing to see two old friends living their best lives. Pure joy. Definitely inspiring me to go looking for a bmx cruiser
Wow, thank you so much for that comment! We really appreciate it! We’re just enjoying being able to talk and work on bikes thanks to people like you! Thanks for watching!! 🤙🏼
My 26 Monza came very well packed. No smudges or fingerprints that I could notice. This was quite recent. I even got a nice compliment while riding around. Very pleased.
Glad to hear that man!! Yeah they do a really nice job with packing them up for shipment. Thanks for watching and sharing that comment!!
Here in the UK we all had Raleigh Burners as our first BMX’s. I had an Ultra Burner, top of the range at the time. I upgraded to a F&F set after that and spent £300 building it at the time , a lot of money back then. I still meet my mates from school, at 55 I’ve known them for 50 years. I’m the only one with a bmx now, I have a restored 20” GT Performer, and a NOS Aero Reflex 20” both carpet queens, never seen the road.
I’m looking for a 24”/26” cruiser at present ( memory tells me 24” was the cruiser size back then ) my wife is super supportive usually, but we’re building a large house extension at present and money is disappearing fast. So I may have to wait until next spring unless I find a bargain that can’t be turned down 🙏🙏🙏
There are so many choices nowadays in the 24 or 26 inch size. A lot of the old school manufacturers are still building bikes so you can still get like a GT, Haro, Torker, Race Inc, etc. in those sizes now. Monza is a new company that gets their frames from Tange who used to build the Kuwaharas. If you check out places like City Grounds or Planet BMX, you might be able to score a good price right now. But I don't know what shipping to the UK would be. My guess it would be like shipping to Hawaii which isn't good. Best of luck to you my friend! Keep us posted! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
I have the 24" and 26" Monza. The 26" suits me better for longer rides. The 24" is best for spirited rides. Love then both.
I’d agree with you there! We rode the 24” on a small pump track yesterday and loved it! Thanks for watching!!
I’m 5’8” so 24” or 26”
Kuwahara (I thought I remembered) but then I realized it was a Takara. Then got a MCS (chrome "Spider" frame & fork). Anodized blue rims, crank, fluted twist seat post with Diacomp clamp, Shimano brake, ect. BEFORE those I had the AMF Evil Knievel bike. They got lighter! Lol! The MCS has some good stuff on it. Including the Kashimax seat! Circa 1982 build. ACS hubs, Tioga, Shimano parts ect... And the Haro plate, checkered California Lite pads.... Good old days! Had to swap my original aluminum bars out for some chrome GT bars when the blue aluminum (Powerlite?) broke. Swapped to a Tuff Neck stem when I broke the blue aluminum one too. I built the best ramps in my hood. Sort of like Benny the jet and his PF Flyers. I could ride a wheelie for a quarter mile on decent road. Lol! Need me a new ride so I am watching!
Bro, you brought back some memories with these older parts you shared! Fluted seat posts were the rage along with those checkered pads! Sounds like you were a beast on those jumps, breaking all those parts! Those were the days huh? I hope you can find something new to ride now. It totally brings those memories back and it’s so much fun to customize it like we did back in the day. Thanks for sharing that with us and for watching! 🤙🏼
@@cruisinginthe808 Yeah, the days when you gave the old side pull brake pad holders a custom twist with adjustable wrench to have any hope in stopping! Think they were Powerlight bars that broke. Pads California Light! I'm old lol!
KKT Pedals that I filed a couple times to get tread back on them! Just looked pretty well thinned out to nothing left! Lol!
I am 52 and rode BMX during the hayday, starting on a cheap AMF BMX, then eventually got a GT Pro ('83 I think). Recently I have been wanting to get back into riding, and was thinking of restoring a 24" Schwinn Pro Stock 3 that was my daughter's years ago. It's actually really cool, it was owned by a Cane Creek employee (I think, I live in Asheville and bought used from a shop), and has Cane Creek headset, rims & hubs, and brakes. Makes me so happy to see that BMX is making (or has made) a comeback, especially with the older Gen X'ers like me. Also happy to see that 24" seems to be a popular size as well!
selling me on the 24 and I'm 6" 1' I know my next bike is gonna be a Monza. I lost 110 lbs since I started riding a 26" about a year and a half ago. I bought the 26" that I I ride now whe n I was 285! now I'm back to my HS weight and I rode a 20 back then at almost the same height I am now. I prefer the taller bars too.
Wow, congrats on the weight loss!!! I’ve got a 24” Monza and I’m loving it. I’m sure you’ll love yours too ❤
That’s awesome bro! Congrats on losing all that weight! The 24 definitely feels more like a BMX bike from back in the day. I think you would enjoy it too! Thanks for watching and for the comment!!
I’m 57 years old, 6’ tall, and right around 200 lbs. I’m in fairly good shape for an old BMXer. 😁 I have a custom built 24” SE So Cal Flyer that I just finished up, and a bone stock Redline SQB-26”. They are both VERY killer riding bikes, but I always gravitate toward the 24” So Cal. I guess it’s my 20” BMX roots calling me back. Lol.
That’s awesome man!! Bernie and I have been looking at the Redline as a possible next build. Still deciding on it. Looks like you found your sweet spot in the right frame size for you. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment!! Appreciate it!!
I am almost 43 and I recently bought a skateboard and began skating again at the local skatepark. After a month of riding safely I realized that my knees cannot tolerate that abuse anymore. Well, I rode a friends 29” bmx and got a good taste of a bike in a park and I decided that bikes are more reward for less risk. I used to do bmx and eventually switched to 26” dirt jumping mountain bikes and was really good at it. Riding that 29er made me realize I need a bike. I’ve decided I will get a 24” or 26” bmx because I still have the dj bike.❤❤❤❤
I just ordered the 26” and you are telling me they ship both seat posts? What an awesome surprise!
Right on…the best times guys!!! That is why I looked this up at over 55 years old!
Itʻs never too late to get back on a bike, especially a big BMX bike! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
This is literally what I came here for. Genuinely thank you
Youʻre welcome! If there is anything we can do to help, just let us know! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
My 26" BMX is a YT Industries DIRTLOVE CORE 2 dirt jump Bike, because I love the 4130 Chromoly frames. And its bullet proof!!!
The 24 inch wheels just look to nice man
Don't those Skyway mags look killer? Totally agree with you on that! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Love the video. Im sold on the 26. im 6 foot and it feels great to cruise slow but also easy to pack away in a car.
24” is my preference for bmx
If you are still jumping or riding some pump tracks, most definitely!! The 24 is very agile and responsive. Thanks for sharing the comment and for watching!!
24 is good but wtf is a monza 😅
I have only heard of Chevy Monza
@@gen.arnavpoe4633 - Monza is a bike company started by some older guys who loved their BMX bikes and wanted to bring back that old school feel in a new bike. So they created their own company and started building bikes. Check out their website at www.monzabmx.com and you can see their products and learn more about their story. They make some good bikes for people getting back into BMX again! Thanks for watching!
@@cruisinginthe808I’m 6ft 2” but I’m leaning toward the 24”. Think I’ll fit lol?
I never knew this was even a thing. I always thought BMXing was just 20-inch
I found out about the SE Racing Fast Ripper in 2019 with the 23.6" T.T. and a 1X10 drive train. I was so excited about a 29" BMX Bike with 10 gears, I had to buy one! Then the bankruptcy happened January 1st in 2020. It took 15 months to get that first generation of the Fast Ripper!! So around 3 months later I found a 29" 2019 GT PRO PERFORMER in the neon orange colorway, and was seriously wanting to ride a 29" BMX Bike. So I bought it while I was waiting for the Fast Ripper. The reason why I came across this video is because, I am looking at buying the 26" Monza. It looks old school awesome!!! 😎
I think we might have been looking at these big BMX bikes around the same time. I had seen them but hadnʻt had a chance to see one up close or ride one. Stoked that you got a chance to pick up a GT! The 26" Monza is a great old school style bike. And the price is right too! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
I can ride a 22" top tube, but I need to buy a xxxxl stem. I have a 36" inseam and the longer stem helps with a little extra knee room from the handle bars. I look for a laid-back seat post also, just for a little extra room in the saddle.
Sounds like you need all the space you can get! I like big bars myself so I can get my hands higher. Thanks for all of the comments and for watching! 🤙🏻
bought my 26'' chrome 2 years ago , ordered my black 24'' with skyways last fall . these are great well made bikes . love them both .
That’s awesome man! They are doing some really good things with these bikes! Appreciate you sharing that and watching the vid!
Regarding braking on the Tuff wheels, they do need to be 'broken in' the factory finish leaves them with a texture and importantly they always worked better with proper Tuff Pads. The genuine Tuff Pads used a special plastic compound that meant they created a powder as they were used rather than regular rubber pads that smeared onto the breaking surface and built up the residue.
Appreciate you sharing that info with us! I never really had Tuff Wheels growing up so I never had to care for them that much. This is gonna help a lot of people like us so thank you! And thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
I'm very lucky to have both bikes , the only difference is that my 24 is in black. I highly recommend them
Thatʻs awesome! I really like them too. Thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏻
Watching you guys cruise these bikes makes me miss my cousin who a couple years older than me and was the major BMX influence in my life! He was my riding/racing buddy and any childhood memories that I have involving anything bike related, he was part of! Miss those days and wish we didn't live so far away from each other. I'm sure we would still be doing what you guys are doing! Much envy! Mongoose-4-ever!
Thanks for sharing that man! Really appreciate the kind comments! Hope you and your cousin can get together soon! Aloha! 🤙🏼
I do love those Monza bikes. I did however just pick up a preowned WeThePeople Atlas 24 that I found for $325. I'm 59 years old and 5'9'' so I think that it feels fine for me. I also have a 29" Trek Procaliber 8 that I have converted to a BMX bike.
That’s a great price for that Atlas! Sounds like you found what works for you and that’s awesome! Keep riding and thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏼
@@cruisinginthe808 I put a little video of it on my channel if you want to see the bike. Not many videos of the Atlas online.
Am 52 now and love the 24" BMX and now the 26" BMX!!! But I am 6'5" tall and my knuckles drag on the floor! So I had to go with a 27.5" and a couple of 29" Bikes, just because of that 23.6" top tube.
Oh I can see that. Yeah, you definitely could rock the 29" with no problems. The smaller bikes are more agile but yeah, having all that extra space for your height is a must! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Good info there, guys! Nice to see the Monzas out together. Maybe one day you both can make it to a pump or bmx track and do a ride or two there.
I grew up wanting a chromed out Diamondback Silver Streak.
I had a Team Murray X20R. That's what my parents could afford. I even raced that bike on a bmx track for ABA.
As a 51 year old man, I had to have a big boy BMX. I'm not a fan of the painted bikes. So I found a chromed out Fitbikeco and drove several hours from home to buy it. The chain ring was way too small. It's like the granny gear on a mountain bike. I thought I could just switch it out. But for some reason the design of the bike doesn't allow for upgrades. So now, I want to sell it and buy this chromed out Redline 24 that's not too far from my area.
My beloved 20 inch Murray was chrome, so I want a chromed out big boy BMX. No exceptions.
If I could find a gnarly 24 Torker or Diamondback with the diamond plates. By all means, I'd get one.
When i was about 25 years old, I bought a Torker 280x from a pawn shop in Victorville California. My biggest regret was selling that bike. If I could go back in time, I would be like.. Nope, it's not for sale. Some kid offered me way more than I paid for it. So I took the cheddar. 😢
I loved watching your video and how you guys are still homies cruising together. That's so rad to have. I'm a loan wolf out here in Central California. I ride by myself, I work out in my backyard with weights by myself. But what you have is wonderful. It was great to see.
Like when we were kids, before our teen years, I didn't trip on race or where you lived. If you were cool, let's be friends. But as you get older, you base friendships on social status and I didn't see that with you two. Like I said, I'm so happy for your friendship.
Much love and respect from Central California, city of Tulare.
Aloha Jesus! Did you see that they are coming out with some new Torkers next week at DirtyFest? Bernie and I will be there! They have a bunch of frames coming out and they look really good and they’re in chrome!! Thank you so much for taking the time to share those memories with us. Man, those were the days when we would jump on our bikes and just be out all day. I bought a DB Silverstreak from my paper route and man I loved that thing. DB had the coolest bikes and racing team in my opinion. We saw an old one in Texas so check out those videos if you want to see a cool one. Hey, thank you so much again for your comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
I had the 1980 red and yellow Team Murray from Target. I didn't think it was sh:tty, I just thought I could buy after market parts to make it cooler. I drove my parents crazy with wanting the new mod of the week. We weren't poor, my parents just had a pathological hatred of anything ostentatious.
I had a sweet baby blue diamondback Viper in the 90’s and my favorite was my neon pink Kent BMX with white mags. I loved that bike. The Kent looked like a copy of the GT Performer
Thanks for sharing that! I had no idea the Kent was modeled after the GT Performer. I can see why though as that bike was one of the best around at that time. I had a Diamond Back Silver Streak and I loved that thing! Thanks for watching!
Hey, I am an old guy, in the 808, and raced BMX!
Rode a GT and would ride from Nuuanu to Hawaii Kai on the weekends.
But when I saw I guy do an ollie on a skateboard, my BMX career was over!
Recently bpught a skateboard for more exercise, but I've been thinking about getting back into bikes, too.
29" large frame, I'm 6'4", shorty!!! But to be honest, a 24" or 26" exclusive BMX solid fork would be kind of neat.
I would definitely adjust seat ride height to extend my legs properly when cruising and lower if I'm going to pull any shenanigans.
Im only 5'7 at best and I too like bigger bars on the big bikes. I have 9.5s in both my 24" har master and my 26" SE OM Flyer. On my 20s i run 10" minimum. I even have 11" bars on my 20" PK Ripper retro loop tail and my 22" WTP Audio. I like sitting straight up rather than the hunched over feel also 👍🏼
We’re in the same boat brother! I like ‘em high too. Just feels better on my back to not be hunched over. Thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏼
I used to spend 6-8 hrs a day on Hutch Pro Racer when school was out. Then I got my license and the bike got put up. 20 yrs later I got a Haro 24 inch cruiser and could not believe how physical that workout was. Nearly killed me.
We're the same way. Once we got our driver's license the bikes got put aside so we could work on our cars! It's cool that you're back into it though! And the rides will get easier! Keep it going! 🤙🏻
Bikes look great, well made. My brother and I both had Haro's back in the 80's and we rode those every day.
Loved those Haros myself! I'm building up a 29" later, after I get it repainted. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
I want the 26" Monza but prefer the Skyways on the 24". I'm 6'5" so I'm probably better off getting a 29" SE bike, but the looks of the 24" Monza comes close to the Mongoose's that I used to oogle over at the Schwinn Bike Shop blocks away from where we lived in the Bronx. I would ride my bike everyday if I had the same views here in MD that you guys have in HI. Happy riding!
The Mongoose was actually one of the inspirations for the Monza! That and the Kuwahara Laserlite. If you can get on a bike to try and ride it yourself, that to me is the best way to see if the size is right for you. On the Monza Owner's Group on Facebook, there are a lot of 6 foot plus guys who ride the 24 and swear by them! Hey, if you are ever in Hawaii, look us up as we'd love to take you on a ride! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Kevin, was talking with my brother who saw you guys at the Texas round up in Austin. I asked him if he bought one of the Monza's and he said no, he doesn't like the gold components. I remember you changed yours over to blue components as well. I think maybe they could do a limited run each year of a chrome bike with different color components. I think it would be a great marketing tool. (blue, red, green, purple, pink, etc.....) If you like the idea, maybe you could share it with them. I'd be excited to buy one.
Hey Kevin, I did have a call with them after the bike show and I shared that with them as others talked to us at the show about having different color ways on the bikes. They did say that having multiple colors on the bikes is a good idea but for a small company like theirs, having all those colors also costs a lot of money as you'd have to stock up on spare parts as well. Even if they did a limited run, they'd still have to have all of the colored parts in stock in case something happened. I'm with you, I'd love to see other colors on this bike besides the gold and orange but I don't think we'll be seeing that change right now. They did share with me some cool new projects they have coming out soon and while I can't share what they are just yet, it'll excite some people when they do! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Bernie is built for a 24". He just needs a straight seatpost. I have a 24, I'm 5'9 but mine is set up for racing..
I’ll share that with him. He rode the 24 last night with the bent seat post and he said he liked it. We rode well over 20 miles last night. Thanks for watching another one!
Awesome videos, guys. I just got a GT Performer 29. You guys had a lot to do with it. My wife and we're going to get beach cruisers, but I came across your channel and a few others and decided on BMX instead. Hope to learn a lot from you both.
Welcome to big bike BMX! Happy to have you here with us! Let us know how you like the GT and if you need any help with it. Appreciate you sharing those comments with us and for watching! 🤙🏻
Thank you. I'm recovering from an ankle surgery, so it will be 5 more weeks before I can ride. I'm starting to look for upgrades, and I'm sure I'll reach out with questions.
I know this is an older video but i just wanted to tell you guys thanks, you got me back into riding.
Because of your videos i purchased a 26in monza in chrome.
I love the bike but have a question about the crank and bb,
If i wanted to replace the crank and bottom bracket set up what would you guys suggest?
Again thanks for the inspiration im 50 and have 3 grand kids that i ride with weekends
Love the taller Bars!!!
I like my 29 as much as my 26 as much as my 24 as much as my 20.
It depends where you are going.
On my driveway, I like my 20 inchers.
Good point! They all have best case scenarios for riding them for certain situations. Makes owning more bikes easier to explain to the wife! 😂 Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Came for advice on a bike size but stayed for the reminiscing.
Appreciate you saying that man! Thanks for tuning in! 🤙🏼
Sup braddahs, been watching your guys videos over the past week. I haven’t jumped on a bike since the early 90s I’m 42 now and you guys motivating me to go out and pick one up. I grew up riding one Diamondback back in the days.
Man, I can’t tell you how much fun it is to get back into BMX with these bigger bikes! Brings back all the memories and you can still do what we did as a kid, swapping out parts to customize it. The difference is now we have adult money! 😂 Try and see if you can get on one and see what it’s like. I think once you do, you’ll get sucked back in like us. Where do you live? Maybe there are some rides near you or some shops to check out. Appreciate you watching and supporting the channel brah!! Much mahalos!!
@@cruisinginthe808 I’m on Maui I would love to check some shops out but don’t really know any. Most guys here ride electric bikes now.
That 24" looks sick. I had mongoose california chrome/black. More recently Mongoose ritual dirt jump, wish I would have kept. Now just Diamond Back Axis mountain bike hard tail. It is ok but like the dirt jump or bmx geometry better.
Tney are both really nice bikes. Yeah, I rode MTBs a bunch too and love them but man, I really like being back on a BMX bike, even if itʻs just a single speed! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
For your brakes it could be the brakes pad compound that causes the brakes to squeal on the plastic surface
Yeah that could be the reason. Sometimes it helps to also sand down the pads a little before using it which we didn’t do. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!!
I bought a 29" Big Flyer. I'm thinking about a 26" bmx bike just because it'll fit in my SUV. But I'm 57 and 285 pounds. If I got the 26" I'd have to get fatter tires to support the tonnage. Raise bars and seat post. I thought about a long frame pro 22" top tube 20" bmx bike, but I'd look like a Circus Bear riding it I'm sure.
I like bigger bars on my bikes so I usually put on 9.5s. You can also put in a laid back post if you still want more room on the 26”. I used to ride just 29s but I really like the 26s too. Built up a Skyway and Supercross 26 that I also have up on the channel. Are you able to try and ride a 26? I always recommend that but it’s not easy sometimes if your town doesn’t have a shop that carries them. Good luck man!! And thanks for watching!!
I was born in 1961, and I use to ride my bike all through my childhood. As an older adult now, wink, I'm 63, I want to get another bike and I'm now thinking bmx instead of a cruiser. I'm a little old man, only 5'6" tall and 141 lbs. I'm thinking 24".
The 24" might be perfect for you man! Bernie is around your height and he rode the 24 on a big bike ride in Texas last summer and he was totally fine with it. If you can get on one to test it out first, thatʻs the best way to see if the 24 is a good size for you. Hey man, props to you for riding at the young age of 63! Keep it going man and keep us posted on what you decide to pick up! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Nice to hear a recap of your guys' videos. I found you during Covid looking for videos about 26" cruisers and found the Hutch review. Since then I kept watching almost every video. Always nice watching you building and riding :) In Germany they wouldn't let us go on a race without having a working front brake. Hopefully nobody tried to pull the front brake in a race going full speed lol. We were always joking about how ridiculous that rule was, but 30 yrs later when I build my Skyway 26, it automatically needed one as well :D This video makes me want to build a Skyway 24 or get the Monza 24. Love the geometry and the Tuffs on it.
Thank you for supporting us from the beginning!! Thanks for sharing that comment and I have to tell you how much I love those bike shirts!! 🤙🏼
@@cruisinginthe808 glad you like them. Always fun watching you guys and seeing your channel growing. Good job guys!
Love your guys vids! I’m 5’11” and I prefer riding 26”
Thanks man!! Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts!! Glad you found the size that you like to ride! Keep riding bro!! 🤙🏼
In the 70s I had a 24" Raleigh bike with cowhorns, and I used to build a ramp and jump over my friends and vice versa and go on dirt tracks until I got my Raleigh chopper 😅😊 good times and I learned one thing today Bernie is a sneaky devil 😂😢😅😊 I would go with the 26 because I've already got a electric 26 mountain bike with bmx handlebars and I'm 10ft 10 Kevin you could wheelie the 26 with the right gearing
Bernie is a sneaky guy! 😂 We did all the same things back in the day bro!! I’m sure I could learn to wheelie one day with better gearing on that thing! Thanks for the comment and for watching another one man!!
As always the great little video friends on Bikes
Thanks man! Appreciate you watching another one!
27.5" is my personal favorite 😅
That is the one size I have yet to try! Thanks man! Appreciate the comment and you watching another one!!
Great video. I think im about to purchase a monza 26 but im 280lbs. Would i have to upgrade tires or anything? Im only riding to cruise, exercise, and lose weight.
You don’t have to upgrade the tires or rims. Just keep it inflated well and you should be fine. The hardest part is just getting out there again. Once you start riding you’ll start seeing progress. Don’t get discouraged and keep going! You can do this man!! Keep us posted on your progress!! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏼
Hello, so I'm new to the channel, and where is home for you guys!? Thanks you.
CW California Freestyle 😎🌊🌊🌊
Those MAG wheels are sick! I wish the 26 white had those.
Yeah, the largest they make is 24 so we're out of luck. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Another great upload guys my mind is made up up now definitely a monza 26 ..
Thanks Stu! Glad it helped!! And thanks for watching!!
Howzit, braddahs 🤙🏼 originally from Hilo and my family is from Waipahu. Just found your channel because I’m 54 and NEVER had a BMX bike small kid time. LOVE that I heard the chickens while you guys were riding. Aloha 🤙🏼
Howzit Brah!! Welcome to the channel!! Hey, maybe now’s a good time to get that BMX bike!! Let us know if we can help in anyway! We have a bunch of videos on the different bikes we’ve built. Thanks for sharing that comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
24 still feels like a bmx, 26 is just too big to be bmx dimensions, just feels like a more agile beach cruiser.
I wouldn’t ride anything bigger than a 24, 5-9 tall that’s plenty.
I wouldn’t even enjoy a bmx track, pump track or park on anything bigger than 24, and even in that case I’ll always prefer a 20 for freestyle
All good points. It comes down to the type of riding you want to do. Totally agree that it you want to ride a pump track and hit some jumps, the 24 is the way to go. We do more of the cruising so we’re fine with the 26. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!!
So beautiful out there. 🤙🏻😎
We really are lucky to live in Hawaii! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
It was awesome meeting you guys at the bmx roundup today.
It was great meeting you too!! Thanks for stopping by the booth and chatting with us! Appreciate you supporting the channel!!
24” good for pump tracks 26” good for cruising around
I like the tough pedal feel.when I was a kid I'd ride my dyno till I got blisters on my thumbs from the handle grips =)
I still get those blisters now when I ride! Need to put on some soft donuts! Haha! Thanks for the comment and for watching!!
Chevys?? Monza!! Oh my. Lovin my 27.5. Rolling on 3.0's and getting BMXy as well as trialsy. Cause we happen to be kids with gray hair! No more rim scrubbers fouling rims, not to mention, shopping at the Smithsonian might be a felony!! ;P
I like my crank and pedals close to the ground as possible
on the 26-inch you sat down all of the ride.. on the 24-inch your friend had to stand up and peddle for some time like every 3-6 minutes and he did not look comfortable sitting too long times in a row...
Maybe this is kind of telling that 24 inches is too small for an adult person, or maybe I am wrong?
thanks for any advice when it comes to the comfort and ergonomy of the bike for a 5'9 tall guy...
I never noticed that so thanks for pointing that out. Bernie is a shorter guy at 5'4" and I'm at 5'9". Personally I like the 26" better although Bernie did just fine on the 24" when we rode in Texas. We went on like 20 mile rides and he sat most of the way so I don't think the 24 is too small. I know of some guys who still ride the 20" though so I think it all just depends on what you are comfortable with. Are you able to find a bike shop near you and try some out? That would be my best advice to you. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 Thanks for getting back to me! I've been trying to find an actual BMX bike, but they won't let you order one to try it out. If you order, you have to buy it with no return policy. They claim BMX is a dead category for them, so they don't accept returns.
I've found two bikes online that I like, but I'm torn between them. One is a 27.5-inch cruiser in a Klunker style, while the other is a 24-inch bike that I can get quickly but can't return. Both bikes are full chromoly; at least the larger one is. Despite having no experience for 38 years (ha ha), I'm eager to get one. I even reached out to Thomas, the founder of Monza here in Stockholm, to inquire about their bikes, but he mentioned they stopped selling in the EU due to lockdowns and increased costs, making bikes over 1000 euros here. He also mentioned a tax reduction in the US for small sellers.
These are the two bikes I found available at a decent price and with quick delivery options: the WethePeople Atlas 24-inch in yellow or white, and the WethePeople Avenger Klunker 27.5-inch. I'm 5'9" but on the heavier side. I'm unsure if all 24-inch bikes have the same seat post height. Would this one be too short for comfortable pedaling?
Really cool Klunker with disc brakes:
www.wethepeoplebmx.de/bikes/avenger
and this one seems really nice in yellow:
www.wethepeoplebmx.de/bikes/atlas
Now that I've sold off all my other bikes, I'm relying on this one to zip around town. But let me tell you, I'll never go back to those boring Dutch commuter bikes-23 kilos of "order and obey" in the bike lanes, surrounded by commuters who think they own the pavement! They glare at anyone who dares to have a bit of fun on a quirky bike. No, sir, I'm all about biking for the sheer joy of it!
I am living in Stockholm, the birthplace of Monza, which prompted me to call Thomas, who's practically a neighbor.
He filled me in on their pandemic woes-it's been a tough ride for them. But said that next year new things might happen in Europe, they're toying with the idea of making a comeback, possibly teaming up with new distributors if they can find a way to get the production costs down.
So, I'm on the hunt for something that lets me glide effortlessly through the streets, hop down stairs just for kicks, and generally goof around town like it's my personal playground. Who needs rules when you've got wheels, am I right?
sorry, my reply got longer than I first thought it would...
but thanks for getting back! hope you can see the links, and that they work!?
have a good day to you guys there in the USA!
I knew right away these were older dudes coz they stay seated while peddling, I'm not too far behind and i prefer to ride that way too LOL
I built a Huffy frame with Mongoose parts
That's cool man! Any photos of it you want to share? Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 That was 45 years ago. Pictures are rare from that time.
i know that "style" is a big part of bmx, but, since you are not jumping and doing tricks in those bikes, wouldnt your riding and cruising experience benefit from having your saddle a little higher? so your knees can extend more on the down stroke? i ride mi bike to work (regular urban bike, i did just that and it was a game changer for my knees and the sfficiency of the pedaling motion
You are absolutely correct in that raising the seat to get your legs stretched out more is the most efficient way to pedal. While I’m not jumping or racing anymore, I still like my seat lower than my bars. I don’t like being hunched over so that’s the main reason I keep my seat lower. I’ve tried to pick up bars that are taller so that I can get the seat up higher. Thanks for sharing that comment and for watching!!
Diamondback Silversteak 2 .. all chrome
Loved my DB SS back in the day!
I got a new se24 inch SoCal flyer and was that the pump track with it the next day haven't wrote a BMX bike since the 80s I'll be 58 in 2 months
Thatʻs awesome man! I wish we had a pump track here on our island. They really look like a lot of fun. Stay safe and welcome back to BMX! 🤙🏻
Makes me wonder what putting BMX handlebars on my 20 Year old Trek mountain bike would be.
I want to do they to my 30 year old GT MTB!! Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
That 24 is nice 👌🏽
Great riding and information video guys
Thanks for watching another one brother!!
I'd prefer my old school 44/16 gearing. I wondered why those front sprockets looked so small. Everything modern bmx looks stupid. The seat slammed to the frame, tiny sprocket, balloon tires, and even the grips.
The 44/16 does require some extra effort if you ride in an area with some hills. If you're going mostly on flat roads, you're good. We rode that setup in Texas and we needed that gearing to keep up with how fast those dudes rode! For us here in Hawaii, the lower gears work out a little better because of our different terrain. Thanks for watching another one! 🤙🏻
awesome video, it was very helpful
Stoked to see guys stay in Lihue? I’m from Koloa. Yessah!
Rogah dat Thunda Cat! Let's ride!
@@cruisinginthe808 sounds good. I’m in the process of getting a bike for my son and I. You guys kinda sold me on the Monza 26” Kinda looking at the 29” bikes too. For sure as soon as get my bike setup be fun to ride with.
I miss my Robinson Pro Gt. 😪
Huffy Pro Lightning. I wanted one so bad. My mom said "Huffy is POS" and bought me a Mongoose.
I have a sticker on my Dyno that reads: “ If Huffy made an airplane would you fly in it?”
how are you getting the camera angle where we can you see while you ride? i dont see a stick or stem for a camera
I use the Insta 360 X3 camera. It records a 360 degree view that you can adjust later to determine the angle you want to show. It cuts out the pole and the camera so it looks like someone else is filming. You mount it to your bars and just hit record. It does take more time later to edit though but to me it’s the easiest way to record a ride. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
Love this video guys!
Thanks man! Appreciate your comment and you watching!
Also the longer the stem the longer the reach for rides with longer arms
I also like taller bars too. Thanks for adding that!!
Im 44 and really want to get into riding again, mostly for my health, but that $900 price... ouch. Been looking at bikes in the $300 range, but nothing really i like. Whats funny is though you guys are 5' 5 and 5' 9, Im in between at 5' 7 and still cant figure out whats best. Maybe a 24 cause if im gonna crash i can jump off easier 😅
For $300, unfortunately you won't get much unless you can snag a bike that someone is trying to get rid of. If $900 is too much, look for something in the $500-$600 range. There are companies like Throne and Monza that sell some in that range. I also saw Race Inc has a sale for one of their fully built bikes for like $699 which is a steal right now. Try and check them out. If you can also sit on a 24, 26, or 29 inch bike to see how it rides, it might help you figure out which size is right for you. I started off on the 29s and thought they were my magic size but I got a 26 and found I really like that size too. Hope that helps and good luck! 🤙🏻
SourceBMX might have more affordable ones.
Should turn this into a poscast and invite special guest like ex racers and shi
We actually did a few episodes with Morgan from Billet BMX if you check out our channel. I want to do more in the future! Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!🤙🏻
Hey, you two. Anyway you can keep these video times down to less than fifteen minutes? I find it hard to devote nearly one hour, or thereabouts, to one channel. I watch other channels and it's hard to justify spending so much time on one.
Thanks for the comment and the feedback. I totally understand where you're coming from. We do have shorter videos where we've interviewed some BMX legends from our past trip that are shorter. Unfortunately the bike build videos are going to be longer because in addition to putting together a bike, we're also using that time to hang out and talk. The videos are also a way for us to spend some time together doing something that we enjoy. I could trim the videos but they wouldn't be the same. Maybe you can watch them in parts and come back when you have more time? We appreciate you watching though whenever you have the time and thanks for your feedback! 🤙🏼
@cruisinginthe808 That's really too bad because I do enjoy you guys. Many people build up bikes in their videos, showing it happen, in under 15 to 20 minutes. Unfortunately I'll have to unsubscribe. That's just too much time to devote to one channel, build, and rides. I wish you the best, guys.
Hey Bernard....missed you on Kauai brah!
I have a lot of old school 24 and 26 frames i collect them old school mtb trials bike s and that to i all ways go for old bike s i do have a hex and arcade trials bike tho that are modern
That's cool! Yeah, my first 26 was a MTB and with these BMX bikes now, I rarely ride it so I should think about selling it. That's cool that you collect these frames! Appreciate you watching and sharing that comment! 🤙🏻
Have you guys tried riding your bikes with the handlebars in line with the forks. It looks like you're over stretching a tad and I was curious to know if you've experimented with handlebar postitions?
I personally like my bars more straight up but we should try them pulled back a little to see how they feel. Thanks for suggesting that and for watching!!
I wonder why Monza shows sold out on all their bikes?
They were low on stock and so they weren’t promoting anything. I’m hoping they get more in stock or come out with some new stuff! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏼
Why is the 24 more expensive than the 26? I checked out their website and was surprised by that.
It has to do with the Skyway mag wheels on the 24”. Those seem to be the difference because mostly everything else is the same. I think you can get the alloy rims built way cheaper. Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
Nice view!
I need a 26 with a surf rack
Bro, you would look badass rolling up to the surf spot on one of those!!
What would you guys recommend to get for a 26 in just for cruising that doesn’t need upgrades right out of the box besides the Monza and GT”s. I’ve been looking at the Hora freestyle but know very little about bikes.
Any of the SE bikes are great out of the box too. They make a wide variety of styles and sizes to fit a wide budget as well. Hope this helps and keep us posted on what you decide to get! Thanks for the comment and for watching!!
5’11 250lbs. Is it safe for me yo ride the 24”? Lol Gotta have my mags! Great video!
Thanks man! I think it would be fine. What you can do is join the Monza Owners Group on Facebook and see what others post about. They’ll let you join even if you don’t own one yet. It’s a great place to connect with others and see what everyone is going with their Monzas! Thanks for watching!!
@@cruisinginthe808 Bought a white on white skys last night! Stoked they still had some left! Just gonna go with it. I'm dieting any ways and hoping this will help give me some exercise as well :-) Already joined the group too!
Is 29 inch too big ? im thinking of swapping my 29 gt street performer for a 26 inch one
Anything over 22" might as well have suspension.
I prefer mountain bikes with no suspension. They weigh less. Suspension can make it harder to wheelie.
@@btdxpm I would say 50% of big BMXs out there are for old dudes to cruise and the other 50% will be vehicles to wheelie-dance. Both are valid, but I'm a purist.
How are the knees on a bike like these? I’m 50 and am used to a good extension on regular road and touring bikes. Looking to do shorter rides and some occasional flatland tricks.
You can raise the seat post to get your legs in a better extension but I think it also depends on your height. I’m 53 and while I try and get my seat high, I still like to have my bars higher and so I’m not always at full extension for my legs. If you can somehow try one out first, you can see if it gets high enough for you. Good luck and thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
Hey, thanks for the reply. Love your videos and the location. I am a new sub to your channel. Glad to be a part of it all.
Thanks for those kind words man! Glad youʻre here! 🤙🏻
